I brought my cat in the other day it was late in the afternoon they weren't sure if the doctor was going to be able to see him because there were other animals before mine. I guess she took pity on mine cuz he was in a bad shape he had an open wound on his face with an altercation with a other cat.. the doctor was able to see him took care of him15- 20 minutes.. he was done cleaned up with sutures and shots .. I was happy to have him back in such a short time.. their prices are reasonable.. but really how can you put a price on your pets...God bless them. . Read Less

We recently relocated to California from Chicago and our fur baby fell ill after a few days of being here. We checked Yelp and was pleasantly surprised that there was a good pet clinic nearby. We took our Charlie Brown over and he was given antibiotics and fluids. Before leaving he was already getting back to his old self. The staff was personable and helpful and the bill wasn't overwhelming. We have definitely found our new vet home for our fur babies. Read Less

Dr. Carillo, Dr. Henstra, and the staff at Alhambra Veterinary Hospital are fantastic in every way -- so caring, so knowledgeable! We have been taking our dogs and cats to them for years! Most recently, Dr. Henstra helped save one of our neighborhood cats that we feed -- he wouldn't have made it without her! -- and Dr. Carillo is currently helping save our beloved dog Nero's vision! I came to Dr. Henstra on recommendation from my neighbor. A few years ago I moved to Alhambra from San Diego and needed a good vet close to home. I like her as a person, she is on time, always forthcoming with information and very caring. The staff is helpful and courteous when making appointments and calling for Rx. pricing. One of my dogs is not social, and they allowed me to bring him in the back door right into an exam room. They also allowed me to drop off one of my dogs and pick up later when I didnt have the time to be at a re-check appt. They take Saturday appointments. Locally, there are other choices, but I have not been a fan of VCA since my history of their practices in San Diego. I take a holistic approach to my dogs' care and Dr. Henstra is very knowledgeable in this area, recommending alternatives to mainstream treatments while still erring on the side of what is best overall for a pets lifespan. I recently had some lab test run and when I called back to check the results, Dr. Henstra personally took the time to take my call and address my concerns for flea and heart worm prevention as well as skin allergies related to my my most allergic dog. She is super compassionate and professional. Sure, the place is not new and modern, but Dr. Henstra seems to invest back in her practice the right way, caring for the welfare of animals, not on wowing the owners with fancy surroundings. I Have been going to this hospital since I could drive for my pets. that's 45 some years. They have tough me how to extend the lives of my many cats over the years. My first one lasted well into 18 years. I'm on my last of the 7 spaced out over the years. Presently I have two 10 year old red tabby cats and 16 year old gray tabby, My good buddy. They are caring people and teach you how to extend the live of your furry friend. Considerate and compassionate care for pets and their owners. My family has been fortunate to have Dr. Henstra care for our pets for over 25 years. She has provided quality care for our doggies and kitties over the years and I trust her judgement and recommendations. Even when the news isn't good, she is kind and understanding. I remember years ago hearing patients talking in the waiting area... people coming from out of the area, out of the county, some travel one to two hours to bring their pets to Dr. Henstra. There have been times when the office was closed to new patients because her demand was so high. Even now, call ahead because she gets booked up fast. When my kitty recently got sick, I knew I needed to bring her to Dr. Henstra. We moved out of the Alhambra area a few years back, but I really don't trust anyone else with my fur baby. I know Dr. Henstra will be honest with me in her assessment and honor my wishes for treatment and care. I also know she will be reasonable with her fees and always discuss fees up front so there is no surprise. I know that as long as Dr. Henstra is practicing veterinary medicine, I will be bringing all my pets to her. Read Less

I've trusted my pets care to Dr. Henstra for approx. 25 years! She is an amazing and compassionate vet who truly cares and gives the best care. I would recommend her twenty times over except I'd probably never get an appt. since she would be booked all the time. Actually she is pretty busy since she is that good. Thank you for always suggesting the best advice and only advice I'd take. The one time I took our dog to another Vet to VCA on Robertson, they wanted to charge $3600, yes, you read that correctly, for a simple procedure. Guess what Dr. Henstra charged me? $840!!! The other Vet tried to make a big deal out of a growth and have it biopsied and then surgically remove it when Dr. Henstra looked at it, saw it was nothing and removed it. UNREAL. I have been going here for over the past 20 years.  The staff is amazing.  The real deal here is Dr. Henstra....Not only is she treating animals with extreme LOVE and CARE, but she treats us humans the the same level of care.  I recently  was dealing my pug coming up on seventeen years and Dr. Henstra did everything she could in giving me the xtra 4 months with her and for that I will forever be grateful. Dr. Henstra and her staff are incredibly UNPROFESSIONAL. There is absolutely no point in making an appointment with her since the staff will shuffle the appointments any way that that they see fit. Even people without an appointment will be seen before you, and watch out for the variable prices for her services. Do you and your pet a favor and pick another vet.  She does not deserve a star, but Yelp forces me to give her one. Read Less

The doctor and staff are the nicest people ever! I took in a stray to be checked out. The staff were just wonderful and understanding. They treated "this little fleabag" with so much care and love. The doctor was the best, she checked out the dog from nose to tail. Gave us information on caring for a stray, she was not at all pushy. We left the dog to be groomed and he was given shots. I was in tears when I returned my new dog was smiling and appreciated the love he received. Again this doctor is not pushy, I had to return for shots and she totally understood my finanical situation. This vet is a keeper and I have recommended her office to several of my friends. I couldn't agree less with racheleg's review. First of all she refers to her vet as as a ""HE"" this is a listing for CHRISTINE Carrillo, who is clearly not the same vet she saw. Christine Carrillo has been taking wonderful care of our dog these past two years since we found him as a stray. They even gave me a discount when we first brought him in, on meds (he was sick & underweight) because he was a stray. The staff has always treated my pet well and despite getting all his shots there, he is never afraid of any of the staff there. People who complain about the costs of tests that could potentially save their pet's life if there was something wrong should not have animals if they cannot afford them, or go to shelters with reduced price and or free treatments. Do your homework these places exist. As for me I will continue to go to Alhambra Veterinary Hospital because they've always treated me and my pet like family. Read Less

Please learn from my mistake and DO NOT GO HERE! The staff is terrible, and the doctor is worse. I took my 2-year-old puppy for a check-up, and of course they wanted to do every test possible for over $500 - for a routine check-up! I am new to the area and I wanted to be sure everything was ok, so I went ahead and let them do everything. The results came back fine, but when I called to talk to the doctor, the woman on the phone refused to let me speak with him. I asked if I could leave my number for him to call me back at a convenient time, and she laughed at me, saying ""the doctor does not do call-backs."" Maybe this is standard practice out here, but I have never experienced a doctor (for humans or non-humans) being unwilling to call a patient back. The nasty receptionist told me that if I wanted to talk to the doctor, I needed to make another appointment. I will NEVER return to this ""doctor"" - I hope my horrible experience can save you the trip! Read Less
