We have a very human aggressive dog (except with myself and my husband).  The poor guy has a terrible itchy skin condition and we decided to try a new vet. Our old one treated Smokey like he was a criminal due to his behavior. Dr. Frics and the rest of the staff were awesome!  They understood that Smokey is part of our family and didn't make a big deal about it. Smokey was sedated, but remained "growly". Dr. Frics took quite a bit of time with us, explained everything and even gave Smokey a good bye pat!  We have two other (friendly) dogs and will be bringing them to West Main Animal Hospital from now on. I've been taking my pets to West Main for 8 years now, and the staff and the doctors have always been great.  The receptionists are super helpful and friendly, and the same goes for the techs.  They all really love animals (and our pets!) and it really shows!Dr. Frics and Dr. An have been our primary doctors in the past two years and we couldn't ask for better doctors.  They're great with our dogs and always take the time to answer all of our questions and explain any procedures or medication our pets have required.  They never make you feel like you're being a bother even when you know you're being a helicopter pet-parent!  Dr. Frics also recommended getting pet insurance for our dogs some time ago and we're really thankful that he did.  It's helped us out a lot with unexpected costs and the staff even submits our claims for us without us having to ask!The only thing I'd complain about would be the wait times - every so often, especially on weekends, they'll get really busy so make sure you allow yourself some extra time if you have any plans after you pet's appointment.  They're definitely worth the wait though. We've had great experiences here. We took our sick doggy in today- both vets we've had here are kind, patient, well-spoken, and great with our super shy, anxious dog. They explain everything in detail and let us ask as many questions as we want. They also go through the list of recommended treatments and discuss which are necessary and which can wait. It doesn't feel like they're trying to upsell you, like at some vets. It's more of a discussion about what the best treatment options are, and what the next steps should be. They're also really flexible- our dog is terrified of the metal table, so they do his exams on the floor. Very grateful for them.(We've had Dr. An and Dr. Fischer. Love love love this place. The front desk receptionists are warm, knowledgable, friendly and prompt. They took care of me and Muffin right away and even allowed  for same-day appointment when my poor baby had his nail ripped out. Dr. An is awesome! He makes sure to break down the procedures/doings step by step and is careful to lay out the cost of everything before proceeding. my Dachshund louie had been with Dr.fisher for 9 years (his whole life). The staff is all super friendly and office is clean. they get busy on Saturday but that's because they are that good!!!! the reason I love this place because I board Louie here, he has IVDD (weiner dog discs disorder) so I can't leave louie with family/home. they take really good care of him, feed and walk him. they have a small grassy area behind there bldg. also their neighbors is the Alhambra fire depth. so I figure in case of any emergency they have the firefighters next door. I took my 8 year old lab to Dr. Fisher when she suddenly started coughing and vomiting. Dr. Fisher was kind and attentive. That evening although I could tell my dog still wasn't feeling well, she stopped vomiting. Within days, my dog was back to her old self. Thank you Dr. Fisher!! Read Less

West Main Animal Hospital has the most polite, caring, professional staff I've experienced. When my last dog "Red" died of cancer, they treated us like Family. They took him and at our request, had him cremated. About a month later, they mailed us a little ceramic dish in a holder with his name on it and sweet words at no charge. Our new dog Bowie is well looked after and they always greet him when we bring him in. I only hope that other animal hospitals are as dedicated as they are. Read Less

Dr. Frics and staff are some of the kindest most caring people you would ever want.  Our Golden Retriever lived nearly 16 years, even conquering cancer.  The staff kept him healthy and active well into his last year of life.  When he finally did pass away, they were the most caring and understanding people you could want. So I went in because my cat had a toy stuck on his claw... It came off in the waiting room. So I was going to leave. A front desk assistant came out and looked at him and said I should have the veterinarian look at him because his claw was out. So I stayed... When I saw the vet his said his claw wasn't out. I figure I would get them clipped since I was there. When I came out I paid for the doctor's visit for 59dollars plus the clipping. I don't think it's fair that I was going to leave but since the assistant decided to give me her advice which was completely wrong I had to pay a doctor's fee. It just made me feel husseled  and the really nice Doctor should tell his staff in the front not to hussel people and give them recommendations when they are not the vets.  On top of that when I was leaving that same girl gave me an attitude insisting the cats claw was "out" after the vet said it was exactly the same as the other claw. This hospital has taken excellent care of our dogs & cats. The vets are knowledgeable and friendly; the staff are as well. Moreover, they treat us like valued members of a community, not as a means to make a dollar. Case in point: our dog Lucy needed surgery to remove a growth in her paw. The cost of the surgery was beyond our means at that moment, so West Main worked out a payment plan at no interest. Lucy received the care she needed, and it turned out that the growth was in fact malign. The surgery removed the cancer in time to prevent it from spreading. Lucy healed quickly and, at age 10, has the energy and happiness of a puppy. West Main quite literally saved our dog's life, and we will be clients for the rest of our lives! Read Less

I was referred to West Main by an emergency clinic we ended up at for my puppy's broken leg. So happy that they sent me here! Every single person I have met here is thoughtful, caring, and warm with both me and my puppy. They truly go that extra mile to be helpful and  thorough - and that includes the front desk staff, who are just wonderful.I've been very impressed with both Dr. An and Dr. Sloan - and of course I LOVE Dr. Frics (seems like from the other reviews, everyone does!). You know you are in the right place when it is obvious that everyone loves what they do.Even though it's a bit of a longer drive than my previous vet, I am definitely making the switch and will continue to bring all my animals here. : ) Read Less

Took my 4 mo old dog there a year ago. Called today to get rabies certificate.  They said my dog wasn't rabies vacinated and that he'd only had two vaccination visits (that had cost me over $200), but the rabies shot was to be given on the THIRD appointment,  which we'd never scheduled or been notified of. The rabies vaccination is the ONLY VACCINATION REQUIRED BY LAW. So why wasn't it the first shot given?! This office and the people a are nice, but how professional are they? They have a nice system for making money by saying your dog needs a bunch of shots (every year) and charge double what other vets do in Alhambra. Read Less

I had the best experience Dr. Frics. He is knowledgeable, kind, and patient. When my kitty ate a plastic bag, I took him in to see Dr. Frics. He did the initial test and was very professional, didn't add in extraneous tests or anything. He made me feel much better about my cat which is super important because I've been to vets where they just make the owner panic about their pets and basically sign them up for a million tests that they don't need. This is my 2nd time to visit West Main hospital. I adopted my 2 years old cat 2 months ago, and I took her here for a complete physical, blood and urine tests. The staffs at the front desk are friendly and professional. I always make appointment in advance (usually I'll avoid the rush hour) , and I wait for less than 5 min before the doctor calls me. Dr. Fisher is very patient. She explain the detail of the treatment, and the test result very carefully. That really makes me feel good as a first time cat owner. I cannot say the cost is cheap, but it's reasonable. For example, based on the website for price compare, the cost for complete blood count (CBC) can range from $60 - 150. It costs me $110 to do it in West Main Animal Hospital for CBC with differential.I highly recommend using their website petly.com (of course it's free :) ), where you can see when you've visited the vet, and what kind of tests they've done. you can even make appointment on the website. The staff will call you to confirm the reservation. They have a small parking lot behind. The entrance is right beside the vet, so no need to worry about whether you need to leave early. Read Less

Never really had a regular vet before.  But I will admit after a good referral I came here and have been very happy with the results.  The staff makes it a point to remember you whenever you call or visit.  They are very accommodating and super nice all the time.  Some procedures are kind of expensive but I'm sure all vets are like that.  If you're looking for a good place to trust, west main animal hospital is highly recommended.  We have 5 dogs in total that come here!! I was told the same thing about my dogs' teeth cleaning: "To save my tax return."  :-|  They do charge an obscene amount of money for that. I had been going to this Vet for years, but I always had a problem with the wait time. If you arrive 15 minutes late they may refuse to see you, but if you wait 1 hour, it's ok? I don't think so! My last time there, I called for an appointment and was given 1pm. I showed up a few minutes before 1pm and waited...and waited...and waited. I asked what was going on and was told I would be called soon. At about 2:15pm I got up and left. I took my business to VCA, where they take care of my dogs' needs "pronto"! Read Less

Dr. Leia Castaneda is the absolute best vet I've ever been to. She's kind, honest, compassionate, knowledgeable, and she truly cares about the well being of her patients. I wouldn't think of taking my pets to anyone else! She used to be with VCA arden in Glendale, but when she moved to West Main, I followed her. I live in Glendale, but I 'm willing to drive all the way to Alhambra just to see Leia. She's the best! The staff is also wonderful too. They always remember my name and make me feel welcome.
