Best veterinary experience ever! The staff was awesome! I got Clive from a family who had allergies and needed to get rid of him.Took him in to get neutered and shots. When he had a slight reaction to the anesthesia (and/or stress) causing an eye problem, they treated him at no cost, offered to keep him for observation at no cost, called me daily to follow up and see how he was doing. Amazing Vet and staff just moved to Alpine and somehow In The move my cat got fleas if you don't know when a cat eats fleas it results in tapeworms so we were grooming my cat and saw he had them I called got him in the following day and they saw him checked him over confirmation of tape worms one shot and 2 days later my cat is 100% again thank you for making my Mr. Poe feel better he's even chasing the dog around again giving him a go for his money Read Less

I live 25 miles away in Campo, CA. The staff there is always so accommodating for Maximus, my Australian Shepard. He's had a couple bad foxtail issues and thistle in his body. Been bringing our family's dogs and cats here for several years now.  It's a small older office but they have always been very caring and flexible with our pets care.  For example, when I couldn't get my cat's medication before they closed, Connie left it out for me and trust I would come in and pay at a later date.  She has also given me some great advice on how to deal with my aging cat, advice that has helped her quality of life very much.  Dr Hackett has always been great to deal with also. I had just found a stray pup evading traffic that my son chased for a 1/4 of a mile..he finally caught it! I frantically called who I thought was Dr. Hackett's office, asking what time they closed and if they had a microchip machine. Yes they did and they closed at 6:00. It was roughly 5:30..I pulled into the office and there were 2 gentleman sitting in room and Dr. Hackett was counting money at the front desk. I told him I had just called to check to see if stray dog I just picked up was  micro chipped.  Dr Hackett said..."We are closed"...I said I had just called a few minutes earlier and gal said to come on in....so he yelled and asked one of the gals if she got the call...nope...then asked another girl...nope...hmm....you must have called at the "other" Vet's office down the road. I walked out of that office in disbelief!!!!! They couldn't take 15 seconds and scan this poor little chihuahua my son was holding?? OMG....I will NEVER go to that place again OR recommend it...horrible horrible way to do business. Read Less

I have been bringing my pets here for many years.my golden retriever, who is 9, had suddenly developed a sore on his upper paw.it was a Friday, and I am home alone, caring for my invalid mom, 87, who has dementia,and I was worried about my dog getting worse over the weekend. Alpine is not the most convenient place to have an ill pet!Anyway, they have treated Teddy since he was a pup(neutered him) and were familiar with him(and my other dogs too!I called the office ,seeking an appointment, to be told no one was available.at this point, out of anxiety that my dog would be in pain over the weekend, and I had no one to watch mom,I dared to ask if maybe they could just give me some meds until Monday.This request was met with great disdain and disgust...telling me that because Teddy, their patient had not been in in a year, they could not help.I was not in a position to travel from Alpine with the dog and leave mom alone.so I couldn't avail myself of another vet.Receptionist said,"Doctor could lose his liscense!".I merely was trying to help my dog, at a facility where he had been treated since puppyhood.I was subsequently told by no less than Dr, Hackett himself..."we don't want you to come here anymore". I stopped by first thing Monday morning and the staff was very friendly and fit us in quickly.  They showed us how to administer the oral medicine to our cat and also took care of everything she needed to get better. I am the lead vet tech at my hospital. I deal with euthanizing pets on a regular basis.. When my mother first started coming to Dr. Hackett, I appreciated the honest feed back he had to offer. But when the time came for my mother to euthanize our family dog.. I was extremely dissatisfied. FIRST, when my mother wanted to be present they did NOT put an IV catheter in him. Being a dachshund, they can very roley veins and hard to locate. He sedated my childhood dog (no problem with that, very standard) but then couldn't find a vein in his arm. He resorted to looking under the tongue and when he couldn't find a vein there he said something along the lines of... "hes a mess." Not only is that unprofessional but somewhat offensive. He left the pets tongue hanging from his mouth and told my mother he would need to take him in the back for the euthanasia. My mother opted to not see her dog again and remember him alive and well.. But I know the only vision she has in her mind is her dog of 13 years sedate, poked and prodded, and tongue hanging out of his mouth. I am very unhappy to say the very least. Read Less

The office staff and Dr. Hackett are GREAT!  We moved to Descanso in 2013 and needed a good vet that was convenient.  I asked around and the overwhelming response was to see Dr. Hackett.  I'm so glad we did.  He is a great, old school vet who doesn't beat around the bush.  One of my dogs, a very old Chihuahua, needed to have most of his teeth removed and Dr. Hackett took such good care of him for what I think was a very reasonable price.  I'm grateful for his skill and compassion and will be taking all of our dogs here going forward. Greatest vet you could ever ask for. The duo of Dr. Hackett and Connie are the absolute best. I've taken all of my pets to them and I don't trust any other doctor's opinion. They are up to date, brilliant, and honest along with fair pricing. They are more then genuine and have saved my dog Abby's life with a major surgery, and to this day Abby has been doing well. This place is a nice, small local business that doesn't nickle and dime you and is the absolute best care for your pets. I'd recommend just talking to them as well if you'd like to see evidence. They are very busy during the day, but if you catch them during one of those rare slow days or after hours they are more then willing to talk to you about anything and everything. Recently when I put my cat down after learning he had cat Leukemia, Dr. Hackett and Connie were happy to talk to me about through it, inform me of the disease's nature, and give me their opinion to help me make an informed decision. The friendly office staff assessed my Rescue Stray Cat injuries over the phone quickly and efficiently.  Not only did they fit him into their busy Saturday schedule, but they are going manage his care and well being over the weekend.  This Lucky little Rescue Stray Cat hit the jackpot when he was so well taken care of by  Dr Hackett and his staff.  Because of DR H Alpine now has another Neutered Cat to its community. I will NEVER take my pets to this place again. I'm absolutely furious with the care my cat received. If I could give 0 stars, I would. I took my cat in for a spay and she had to stay overnight. In the short time she spent in the clinic, she contracted an upper respiratory infection, which obviously means she was either in close contact with another sick cat or one of the staff handled my cat after handling a sick one. Either way, its not acceptable to put my cat at risk especially after having surgery. We ended up having to take her back to Dr. Hackett about a week later when she started showing signs of the infection. He gave her a shot and sent her on her way. The next day I ended up having to take her to a 24 hour clinic in El Cajon because she was even more sick than before she got the shot. A few days later, I noticed my older cat getting sick also. I didn't even hesitate to take him into the vet, but I most certainly didn't take him to Dr. Hackett. My older cat ended up having a fever of 107 and had to stay overnight for 2 days. I was so upset with my cats becoming so sick, we went back to address the situation with Dr. Hackett and tell him exactly what was going on and how this all stemmed from his clinic. He was so ARROGANT! After telling him we won't be coming back and that we won't recommend him to friends/family he said, "Good. I'm too busy with other clients that I don't need your business." How unprofessional! I'm so extremely displeased with the way he handled the situation and that my cat became so sick after spending the night in his clinic. If you are concerned about the wellbeing of your animals and want someone professional, DO NOT take them here. Read Less

I will never take my animals to anybody but Dr. Hackett and his staff. They truely understand that our pets are part of our family and we love them like they are our children. The staff here is friendly, knowledgeable, trustworthy and compassionate. They really want to help you find out whats wrong with your pet. Dr. Hackett took especially good care of my dog two years ago as she was dying of cancer. I will always appreciate how hard he tried to save her. I have been taking my animals to Dr. Hackett since I was 10 years old. Now that I'm an adult I refuse to take my Yorkie, BB, to anyone else. I live in LA and make special trips down for BB if something needs to be addressed. When she ate Tylenol Dr. Hackett kept her for multiple days to ensure she was in the clear, I knew she was in the best hands possible. She also had a long visit  including teeth cleaning and having and abscess removed, the cost was very very reasonable. They really care about your pet. Another vet was trying to charge me $800 to get my cat's teeth removed because she had an infection in her mouth. We brought her here for a second opinion, turns out she didn't need any teeth pulled. Dr. Hackett was extremely knowledgeable and experienced, he even showed us why the other vet thought she needed teeth removed, and then why she really didn't. Now she is as healthy as can be and still has all her teeth! I am so grateful for the Alpine Veterinary Clinic!!! Read Less

Stay away from this place if you really care about your pet! My puppy was spayed at this clinic (not my decision, the rescue group would not release her to me unless she was spayed here) and they used metal staples to close her outer incision! These were compared to "shrapnel" by my regular vet- they got infected and were overgrown with skin, and it was very difficult to get them out- she almost had to be put under anesthesia just to do the staple removal! Now she has permanent scars on her tummy. Not only that, but they apparently used METAL WIRE to suture up the inner incision (which is covered by the skin). So my puppy currently has a weird bump at that location, and it could prove dangerous if she ever has to get an MRI.They may be cheap here, but "you get what you pay for." Find someone who does a better job if you actually care about your pet's health and well-being. Read Less
