Please take the time to read this horrible experience with me and my family: I took my American Bulldog here with my family July 14th. Her name is Sammie and she is 4 years old. Sammie was out hiking when she got heatstroke and collapsed. My family took her to the van and to our house. They threw Sammie in the tub with cold water, she finally cooled down. She was so scared. 2 hours later we decided to take her to the clinic who said she should go to the ER. Within these 2 hours, Sammie was able to lift her head, stand up, and pant. When we got the the ER they tried making my dad sign a waiver saying if she dies, can they preform CPR. We took it very offensive like they wanted her to pass, plus they kept saying “Just sign the bottom and date” multiple times, talking over my dad. My father refused and they took Sammie to the back and examined her. They finally took us back and the vet comes in. She says that Sammie is in “critical condition” and she can’t breathe on her own, we were confused because she was fine in our car and all of a sudden unable to breathe on her own. So they left and came back to tell us her treatment plan and the bill. It came out to be 4000 dollars. We couldn’t afford that and thought we give Sammie what she ONLY NEEDS and we take her home and monitor home. The vet said “We don’t recommend that because she is in critical condition” when I asked her what that meant, she didn’t give me a complete answer. Then they left and gave us a shorter bill of what Sammie NEEDS. They came back and told us to consider putting her down. Every time they left and came back, it was something worse. I asked questions and they couldn’t give me a real answer. The vet told us to prepare ourself because she wasn’t gonna make it through the night if we took her home. They told us her IV's would be pro bono but another nurse said "Yeah they are not free, I don't know why they told you that". So we ended us paying 300 for what Sammie needed and took her home. 2 days later, sammie is gaining her strength back and wagging her tail. She is completely fine but will take long to heal. Please do not take your pet here, they are careless and care about the money. They seemed to not know what they were talking about. I have another story from my sister that they tried to put her dog down over a broken leg because he was in pain, and they ended taking him home and caring for him there. And now he is running around loving life. Save yourself the time and money and don't come to this place. Read Less

My dog got hit by a car at 10:30 at night and we rushed her here. First, they took about 30 minutes before they came in asking if they could give her pain meds. DUH! She was hit by a car! Then they take another 30 minutes and ask about doing x-rays. Again, DUH! They tell us she has a broken hip. "Luckily" it's in a place that doesn't require surgery, We can have a specialist look at it if we want though. We ask if it's necessary since it adds hundreds of dollars to the bill. They said that they didn't think so. So they stitched he up and sent her home with instructions to keep her in a pen to keep her from moving around and give her these pain pills.(This was over $1,000!) For a week we do this. We were leaving on vacation at that point and took her to our regular vet (not this emergency hospital). The vet was super angry and accused us of animal neglect. She told us our dog was in severe pain and needed follow up x-rays, different meds, and around the clock care. Obviously we were shocked because we followed the emergncy hospital's directions down to the letter! We rushed her to Sage in Concord where they re-do x-rays. Turns out her hip was broken (like they told us). However, her tail was broken and the other hip out of place! Our dog had been in severe pain for an entire week without us knowing! It was too late for surgery by the time we got back from vacation. If East Bay Veterinary Emergency had diagnosed her correctly from the start we could have made sure she was taken care of properly. Now her healing process will take 6-8 weeks and she will always have a limp. All EBVE cared about was money. They definitely don't care about your pet. Avoid them at all costs! I will never take a pet there again! Read Less

Our dog Oliver past away on this very own birthday this weekend on 5/5/18 and we had to bring him into the ER to stop his pain and suffering. I’ve been in the veterinary field for 15 years and just knowing that we have an amazing ER that truly cares about our favorite loved ones makes this sadness just a-little bit more bearable. Let me explain: I work for a end of life company that supports families when they lose a pet, we also do cremations, offer viewings and a large part ...of what I do is support the veterinary hospitals and ER’s. Very sad part is... We are not quite open yet. (Opening in June) I told the ER all of this and how I really want to use my company, The Pet Loss Center to honor Oliver’s journey. The doctor, office staff and technicians were amazingly understanding. I know coming from a veterinary hospital, the cold storages fill up very fast, especially at a ER, but they have assured me that they will hold Oliver for me. You guys I am so so so thankful for the huge hearts all of those employees have. There are no words, not enough hugs or no amount of goodies that I could bring them for my gratitude. Thank you east bay veterinary emergency. See More Read Less

I took my 11 year old chihuahua in on Saturday evening. The Staff and doctor were GREAT. My only complaint would be that the ultrasound machine was not the best and didn’t pick up the blockage, only that his stomach was enlarged and full of fluid. It was unfortunate that I had to pay for the ultrasound that didn’t see the blockage. Read Less

The receptionist and the vet were awesome. We took our Sunshine (schaunzer) in. She had diabetes and was blind. Her blood sugar plummeted down. The vet was wonderful. Very caring and gentle in letting us know the truth. As much as it hurt she was very gentle and honest as to the outcome. One of the techs I felt was sort of cold. I saw no caring in her actions and conversation, more like it’s a job. We sadly had to put Sunshine down, and I will be grateful to have be able to be with her. Again the vet and the receptionist was phenomenal. This was 4-5-18 at about 6pm. A void in my 💔. Read Less

I really appreciate them letting us know the prices of everything before we proceeded and not making us feel obligated to do any unecessary tests. This place is horrible. They almost made my husband put our puppy to sleep. They told him they couldn't tell him what to do but the best thing was to euthanize her. The doctor told him it was his responsibility as a pet owner to put her to sleep if we can't afford to give her 800 to help the puppy. She was having seizures and said she was going to have brain damage. He said after an hr he waited and asked to see her and said she looked better so he decided to bring her home so if she passed she will be home and if she makes it through the night and we can take her somewhere cheaper. He brought her home and she is fine she started slowly eating again and playing. 24 hrs later she is being her normal self and is just fine. Thank God he never listened to her trying to just kill the dog to pocket 150 to euthanize her. Read Less

Hands down the best Emergency place for your pet. I know, no one every wants to be in here, but if for some reason you have to bring your pet in, I say bring them here. I had brought my little Chihuahua here a couple of times, due to him having seizures. My vet that I had in Walnut Creek Apollo vet, never bring your animal there. They just want your money and load your animal up with medicine. I have a review there if you would like to read.Anyhow, my dog had a few seizures, and ended up here in the middle of the night. Dr. Moody was great, and helped out. They kept here there for a few hours to watch him. He did good and brought him home. A week later, the little guy had another one. I go see my vet and then he tells me he may have developed epilepsy. Gave me medicine to give him for that, and started that. For a few weeks he was taking that and then my vet added more medicine cause he wasn't getting better and things here and there were happening. Well, this week had to bring my little guy back in since he woke up really off balance and that wasn't normal. He was swaying back and forth. So went in, seen Dr. Russell, and she took her time with him, talked to us about some things showed us how he is responding and then took her time to call the neurologist I had an appt with later in the month. They spoke about some things going on and came down to him possibly having a brain tumor or legion in his brain or some type of brain disease. I knew something was going on, cause he wasn't be normal anymore. I took him home that day, she gave him some virtigo medicine and they called the next day to check on him. Which he took a turn for not doing any better. I spoke to Dr. Russell again and she was really honest and upfront about him. Finally someone who was honest. She has some much compassion and cares so much and that made me feel so comfortable. After I got of the phone with her, I watched my little guy for the rest of they day and he wasn't getting any better. He gave me that look like, I can't do this... that broke me. So I had to make the hardest decision of my life, was to let him go in peace. I called back and they said just bring him in and they will do it.  They were so amazing and loving and caring. Dr. Chow helped us and he went in peace. He wasn't scared. Thank you so much Dr. Moody, Dr. Russell and Dr. Chow and of course the wonderful staff there. You guys went over and beyond and for that I am thankful. I would highly recommend any one with an emergency to go to you guys. For Chance, my little guy, I am at peace you are no longer hurting, and I miss and love you. Read Less

What started out as terrifying Monday morning ended up positively, thanks to Dr. Moody and the rest of the staff at East Bay Veterinary Emergency! Our poor baby girl (11-month-old tortoiseshell, Akris) was climbing a tree and fell. Her stomach hit a poking branch on her way down. Left a nasty, huge, deep cut and I nearly passed out when I saw it.Their office is clean, quiet, and the staff took us in right away (granted, we came in about 7:30 am so it wasn't busy) to examine her. They told us that Akris might need intensive care (which costs $800 on top of whatever procedure was needed) due to how deep the wound was - the branch might have poked deep enough to penetrate her entire layer of skin and to her intestines. After about 45 minutes of examining her (x-ray and ultrasound), she ended up not needing the intensive care. Our girl escaped with all her organs and muscles intact. They cleaned her and stitched up her wound well. I was very nervous taking her to the emergency vet because of horror stories I've heard from people saying vets charge them for services that weren't needed in the first place. We weren't treated that way however. We didn't end up paying for intensive care and we actually got refunded for some of the cost when we picked up Akris the same day. The total was $915 for everything - their standard emergency visit fee ($80), x-ray and ultrasound, IV, anesthetics, laceration surgery (around $260), and post surgery medication and supplies. Yes, that's a lot of money, but it's definitely cheaper than what I expected paying. It's been 3 days after Akris's surgery and she's recovering well. She's back to roaming the house and sleeping on everyone's bed like the princess that she is. Read Less

I have taken my chocolate lab here a few times. Once for a spider bite. Staff was great with him and trying to figure out what exactly was going on with his foot randomly swelling. Spider bite wasn't the first thought since you couldn't see a bite, even after shaving his foot down. We did have to go back since his foot kept swelling. But again they were great! Made sure he wasn't in pain when we left. And he was on meds to help him with swelling, prevent infection and pain! Took him again recently for a double ear infection (was in so much pain I didn't want to wait until morning). They were great again. Took him in to see what was going on. Came back out to see if I was ok with them sedating him to clean his ears and gets meds in them and culture. Walked in knowing he would need to be sedated since he's a 9 month old lab who doesn't know he's 92lbs and thinks he needs to be everyone's best friend. Brought him back out a little sleepy... ok a lot sleepy. Which was fine. He was comfortable and not digging at his ears. Gave us meds to do again in a week in his ears and sent us on our way. Staff called the following day of each time to see how he was doing. Read Less

My Rottweiler was over 11 years old. He was playing with our border collie and when they finished he came over to hang by the couch so I would pet him. Half hour or so goes by and he heads off to bed next to our bed where my wife was already sleeping. She woke up to him panting hard and when I checked on him it was obvious something was seriously wrong. We carried him to the car and rushed him to the vet late at night(thank you for being 24hours!!) they were very kind and did their best to help him but there was just not much they could do. They got me a laser print of his paw, took care of the burial/cremation (you choose regular or ashes spread at a pet cemetery that you can visit.) and sent us a very kind card signed by the staff. They even notified his regular vet. I have had him in there twice. First time was for a bloody foot on a Sunday and second was for this. I am forever grateful that these people choose to work these crazy hours to help our pets. They could so easily work for a regular 9-5 vet but they choose not to. They are very kind and very thoughtful. They are also conscientious of the money side of things. The price is really almost the same as going to my regular vet, it was literally less than 20 dollars difference for the visit. They ensure you are aware of what they think needs to be done to help him as well as the costs associated so you have a choice to set a limit or whether or not you want a DNR. They are very tactful with this too. Thank you all for being such amazing people. I may have lost a family member that night but I have no doubt he was as comfortable as he could possibly ever be in such a situation. I know he could feel the love because I did. Read Less

If I could give zero stars I would! I was in with my 5 month old kitty recently after he was bitten in the face by a dog. He was bad. Bleeding from his eyes and nose and his whole face so swollen he couldn't even open his eyes. The dr. Said she thought she felt a fracture in his skull and if upon X-ray that was found he'd need to be put down. He was given no pain medication and no sedation and after 30 mins she came in and said no fracture gave him pain meds (when I asked about anti inflammatories she said they didnt make any safe for cats) and no antibiotics because she said "he had no puncture wounds"..The next night he started bleeding from his eye again, couldn't eat because his face was so swollen he couldn't breathe from his nose We took him to our reg vet. Not only did he have penatrating puncture wounds that had absessed causing further swelling he also had FOUR SKULL/FACIAL FRACTURES! The reg vet could not believe the lack of care given to our baby. He was given nothing while at the vet, his face wasn't even shaved to look for marks and the X-rays weren't at all diagnostic! Now, after just a few hours with the vet he's breathing fine, eating, and is doing 80% better. Of all this the scariest thing is had she seen even one of these fractures we would have been advised (and due to how horrible he looked) would have likely made the decision to euthanize my baby who now, under the care he deserves should be just fine. This thought is devistating! Because this is an emergency vet I don't think the reviews are read as much as other businesses but the thought of another animal getting the same "treatment" makes me sad and hopefully if you're in the same situation you're able to get a second opinion!Read Less

Amazing people, hard working, amazing doctors and staff. They help indiscriminately and they love animals! That's what it's all about! Brought my baby here (cat) and they kept her over night bandaged her up and took great care for my grumpy kitty, she was in so much pain, hissing and meowing but this courageous staff had empathy and sympathy and took great care of her. And they keep the rooms very clean to keep animal stress level down. They were upfront about cost. It seemed reasonable. They had already sedated my kitty and taken her to be looked at before I paid the bill. It's not cheap in any means, but if you're in an emergency and love your animal the cost won't matter. Thank you guys for caring for my baby and calling and checking up on her and also following up with her! Read Less

Excellent! My 7 year old beagle mix fell on the side of the pool. He was howling in pain. I thought he broke his ribs. My vet was closed. I called EBV emergency and the woman who answered was extremely sympathetic and helpful. I took my dog in around 7pm and we were out by 9pm. I had to wait because of other severe emergencies. This is totally acceptable under the circumstances. I was lucky enough to get Dr. Smith. She was excellent. Took great care of my pup , was thorough and the price was reasonable. She even called the next day to see how he was. I wish she had her own practice. Would definitely take my animals to her. Great experience, will use again if needed. Read Less

Any situation making your animal feel pain makes you feel pain and i honestly went there stressed out, upset n worried willing to do anything but DVM Moi Kouch was there to quickly help do vitals and basic exam, she recommended a few procedures that we're needed to do to figure out what was wrong. Although before i poured out $1500, she helped thru steps to narrow it down with only blood and a ultrasound. Words cant express how much me and my fiance appreciate Dr. Kouch and definitely 100% recommend her to anyone needing "professional" care for there animal regardless of the condition. Read Less

My partner and I had a similar experience as Justin, not one but two of our beloved animals past away that night. I am only grateful for one thing, my poor baby didn't suffer long we happened to be about 5 minutes away from this clinic which was a ghost town when we arrive on Mon. Sept. 16th about 1:30 am. The receptionist though calm and soft spoken was only concerned about payment. The doctor and other staff were only present in passing not one person offered any empathy. No sorry for your loss, nothing. The doctors bedside approach sucked! Why are you in veterinary medicine if you cant show some compassion for your clients loss. Most people care for their animals like their own children. Maybe a workshop in grief counseling could make the difference in your next 2 am emergency. We were a wreck driving home even if it was 5 min. away. And for the money we did pay, (I shudder to think if we may have not had enough funds what might have happened) no one despite all the information we left them with gave us a follow up call to see how WE were.Read Less

Read Less

When I arrived, they immediately took my fur baby offering condolences. I couldn't speak if I wanted to. Under the worst circumstances, they were kind, soft-spoken and comforting. Thank you for making my difficult time a little easier. They also sent a beautiful sympathy card. Read Less

The staff is very sweet but I took my 15yr old chi in for a slight cough, me had some heart disease and the Dr prescribed hydrocodone gave it to him that night woke up to find he couldn't breath rushed him back and had to put him down, after I research the medication and found its not good for dogs with heart disease, the medication messed with his breathing and heart, I wish I never took him here, he would still bea alive, I know he was old but he was completely fine other than a slight cough, I had taken him the the one in Walnut creek a few months prior and they said he had the heart disease but nothing too bad. The staff was sweet and sent me a card with his paw print so that was nice, just don't give your dog anything before checking it out Read Less

I took my 7 year old Maine Coon cat in yesterday because he was having a hard time breathing and quickly became critical. They took him in right away. They were so sweet and calm when I was freaking out the whole time. My cat's prognosis was not good and would live what little life he had left very uncomfortably. My husband and I made the decision to euthanize him last night.Read Less

Read Less

Very relaxed environment for a person going thru a rough time with there dog weather it's minor or severe.
