Dr. May and team have been caring for our two cats since we got them from the Santa Cruz animal shelter in 2012. They care for these cats as if they are part of their own family. Unparalleled care, thorough examinations and clear, complete explanations of evaluations and lab results (verbally and in writing), and exemplary follow up. They are transparent about billing practices and explain procedures and their costs along with their recommendations in an understandable manner. Dr. May takes his time with us and our animals during the checkups and is incredibly patient with our questions and accepting of our personalities (felines and humans.) When one of our cats died suddenly, we were blown away by the outpouring of sympathy from Dr. May and his entire staff. I've said it before, but I wish our family physicians could be more like Capitola Veterinary Hospital. I am so grateful to have them. They are the best we've ever experienced in our 40+ years of pet ownership/care.

My dog, Lucy, had been a patient at CVH for over a year. She suddenly became very ill and at my request was euthanized by Katie Volat, DVM and Anthony the veterinary technician. The first time I came here I thought that it was a good... then I brought my other dog in for some ear issues first they wanted me to drop him off early in the morning to keep him all day the reason being the vet thought his visit would take more time than usual so that means I have to pay extra then I was told he had a ear infection.... ok went home with medication.... made a follow up appointment they tell me his ear isn't getting better and now the other ear is infected! The FOLLOW UP appointment cost $140 really a follow up.... so I took him to a different vet and guess what they cleaned out his ears and he's fine! No infection nothing! This vet seems like the just want to Nickel and dime people

We are incredibly grateful for the care that our dogs get from Dr. May and the entire staff at Capitola Vet! Not only do our dogs tolerate going, they LOVE going to this office! Everyone there is thorough and kind and treat Dexter and Lily as if they're part of their own families. Both of our dogs have had their fair share of veterinary needs over the years - from persistent skin infections to broken toe nails to a ruptured CCL - and we're always confident that Dr. May is going to help us make the best decisions for our dogs by giving us all the information and exploring all options.Five stars is just not enough! The Capitola Veterinary Hospital came highly recommended from a good friend. I have a 10 year old cat who "adopted" me out of everyone in the neighborhood. When she needed to become an inside cat due to having a stroke or brain lesion, I took her in. This clinic has been very helpful in recent weeks when she got an ear infection. She's also in need of dental care and they suggested having that done in December when they run a special discount for that service. I would highly recommend them for any dog or cat owner.

I have nothing but good things to say about Capitola Veterinary and their staff. We've had other vets but none as caring, honest and compassionate as these folks. Our dog is older now and in the final stages of cancer. We have never felt shamed into doing any procedures and are always given factual information and allowed to make our own choices regarding treatment. We are not wealthy--just regular blue collar working people. Veterinary care is expensive--especially emergency care and or cancer treatment. I've felt very comfortable with the advise and options we've been given. I'm grateful for the wonderful care our guy is getting.

Friendly staff, reasonable prices, doctors who explain what all is going on, competent care. What else could I want? I've been taking my cats here for a year and loving the care they provide. My big guy had lost a lot of weight, so Dr. May walked us through the diagnostic process and provided us with gentle feedback regarding follow-up care following my cat's cancer surgery... a very sensitive time. The staff have been very quick to respond to e-mail questions. I'm really happy with the care from Drs. May, Volat, and Mitchener. They've all had their time working with my cats and they've all been nice to work with. The desk staff and techs have also been great!

Used the groupon coupon and it was great! The team is friendly and attentive, the doctor was patient and answered every question I had! This is my (dog's) new vet for sure! I have never had an appointment go so smoothly and not feel rushed to get in and get out! I have a little senior Chihuahua who doesn't like other dogs, and was surprised to see an empty lobby but glad we had our own space to wait until we got called in. Doctor May was very gentle with her and even spoke to her sweetly as he checked her teeth and ears, she was in HEAVEN hah! We will be back! Thank you! Love,Melissa and Matilda

My dog is 15. The vet was very helpful and kind. She understood the balance between quality of life for him and budget. She laid out the options and costs without pushing procedures. As a matter of fact, she recommended against extracting a tooth because of his heart and recommended antibiotics for the occasional flair. She gave good, practical, sound advice. I would highly recommend them!

We have taken our dog, Cecelia, to this clinic for eight years. A couple of years after we started using this clinic, it was sold to a different veterinarian. Since then, every time we have taken her in, we have seen a different person.A couple of weeks ago we rescued our second dog, Leo, from the Santa Cruz animal shelter. When you adopt a dog from them, they give you a voucher for a free "puppy check up." there are a whole list of vets that are willing to do this free check up, but we decided to take Leo to our regular vet. Leo had gotten sick while he was in the shelter, and was sneezing and had a runny nose. My wife called Capitola veterinary hospital a couple of different times to see if we should bring him in early. She was assured each time that it wasn't necessary to bring him in early, and that he should just be brought in for the scheduled checkup. By the time he got in for his appointment, he was very sick, and dehydrated. They put him on antibiotics, and gave him fluids subcutaneously.After taking the antibiotics, and finishing them completely, Leo is still sick. We soon discovered that Leo was prescribed a dosage equalling one third the amount of antibiotics that he actually needed. They charged us for everything they did, even though it was completely ineffective, and other vets were willing to do the checkup for free. We don't know if we ever got the puppy checkup... He was so sick that it was strictly damage control by the time he got in.

We have taken our cats and dog to Capitola Vet since moving to Santa Cruz in 2006. Dr. Pistick is really wonderful. She is very knowledgeable, patient, thorough, gentle, and truly has love for her patients. They literally saved our one cat's life when she got a very bad abscess (she's fluffy so we didn't notice it right away). I also cannot say enough about how great the staff is. Everyone is warm, friendly, efficient and reassuring, and they'll really work to get you in when you have a difficult schedule, like working in Santa Clara but living in Santa Cruz, which makes week day appointments hard. Fees are comparable to other vets in Santa Cruz but the doctor and her staff are what make Capitola Vet a stand out. We will really miss them when we move to San Jose.

We have taken our dog, Cecelia, to this clinic for eight years. A couple of years after we started using this clinic, it was sold to a different veterinarian. Since then, every time we have taken her in, we have seen a different person.A couple of weeks ago we rescued our second dog, Leo, from the Santa Cruz animal shelter. When you adopt a dog from them, they give you a voucher for a free "puppy check up." there are a whole list of vets that are willing to do this free check up, but we decided to take Leo to our regular vet. Leo had gotten sick while he was in the shelter, and was sneezing and had a runny nose. My wife called Capitola veterinary hospital a couple of different times to see if we should bring him in early. She was assured each time that it wasn't necessary to bring him in early, and that he should just be brought in for the scheduled checkup. By the time he got in for his appointment, he was very sick, and dehydrated. They put him on antibiotics, and gave him fluids subcutaneously.After taking the antibiotics, and finishing them completely, Leo is still sick. We soon discovered that Leo was prescribed a dosage equalling one third the amount of antibiotics that he actually needed. They charged us for everything they did, even though it was completely ineffective, and other vets were willing to do the checkup for free. We don't know if we ever got the puppy checkup... He was so sick that it was strictly damage control by the time he got in.

We have taken our cats and dog to Capitola Vet since moving to Santa Cruz in 2006. Dr. Pistick is really wonderful. She is very knowledgeable, patient, thorough, gentle, and truly has love for her patients. They literally saved our one cat's life when she got a very bad abscess (she's fluffy so we didn't notice it right away). I also cannot say enough about how great the staff is. Everyone is warm, friendly, efficient and reassuring, and they'll really work to get you in when you have a difficult schedule, like working in Santa Clara but living in Santa Cruz, which makes week day appointments hard. Fees are comparable to other vets in Santa Cruz but the doctor and her staff are what make Capitola Vet a stand out. We will really miss them when we move to San Jose.
