The Good - Dr. Sidhu is very knowledgeable with regards to the TPLO / ACL surgeries we needed for our dog. He explained things thoroughly and wanted to make sure we had our questions answered. I felt comfortable trusting him. He also did not push frivolous operations or tests to run up the price of service. The Neutral - boarding in a run is priced appropriately. Unfortunately, after her recent surgery, my dog is terrified of this place, and I don't think she enjoys being boarded here. Our Yorkie puppy broke her leg and had to have surgery. Of course this occurred on a Sunday, when Vet Offices are closed. I took her to a Vet Hospital, which told us that we had to go to LA. I had her leg casted, then found this Vet Hospital on Monday. They got us in quickly and completed Surgery within three days. Madison, our Pup was in good hands. This vet hospital has been very good to my fur babies. My small Bichon rescue is a little finicky and old, so she needs gentle care. This hospital has helped her through a few different times, and I cannot complain. I appreciate their prompt service and their support. Brought our dog here for emergency services (we have a vet that we normally go to but they are closed weekends) Vet was very rude and rough with him , they did multiple tests on him and couldn't figure out the problem , until they found something,,, mind you we paid $$$$$ ... anyways they ended up taking him into a surgery and was released the next day !? Um what .. he was home for a few days and then we ended up having to bring him back because we noticed something was wrong yet again ... they were going to conduct a series of tests AGAIN ... but before that happened I got to witness our dog die in front of us ... normally they would keep the dogs a few days after a surgery to monitor them wouldn't you think ? Dr. Sidhu is very professional and a very compassionate doctor. Their prices are reasonable. He doesn't overcharge just to build a fancy facility. Dr. Sidhu has performed LAPAROSCOPIC gastropexy surgery (to prevent BLOAT) on both of our Standard Poodles. We had been told by another local office that there was no clinic in Bakersfield that could do this surgery laparoscopically. I decided to call The Oaks Pet Hospital anyway, just to check. Things were OK until recently...my dog is getting old and having health issues. We brought her in a few weeks ago for persistent diarrhea and they said she has liver problems and put her on a special diet and stuff. Then, 2 days ago, we brought her back because she was coughing a lot. The vet gave her injections of an antibiotic and a cough suppressant, which sounds normal enough. But our dog passed out and went limp in the car about 5 minutes into the drive home. We called them back and they said the vet was gone and to go to the Animal Emerg Hospital. Long story short, after doing some online research, the vet injected her with Torbugesic, which is 4 to 30 times stronger than morphine, and which has major cautions about administering to older dogs and especially not for dogs with liver problems. Now, 2 days later, my dog cannot eat and can barely drink water. For 24 hrs she couldn't hardly move, and she still can't very well. I am worried that she may die. And these people don't even care. Lady at the front desk is so sweet i believe her name is Raven correct me if I'm wrong, but two of the vet techs were so rude and seemed like they wanted to go home. They gave me so much attitude. Love this place! Found my dog crying outside a couple of weeks ago... it was Saturday night about 8:30pm. She had a puncture wound on her side (we suspect from Racoons) and I didn't know where to take her. Called Oaks and was told that there was a doctor on call and a nurse in the office.. took her down immediately and they took her in and treated her,, keeping her overnight. They quoted me a price, and collected half. When i picked the dog up the next morning, the bill had been adjusted down as there were procedures that were not needed. I find it amazing you can even send me a $800.00 dollar bill for putting my dog to sleep specially since you charged me less than a week before over $700.00 to remove my dogs tooth, which didn't need to be removed. Are you serious? MISDIAGNOZED! I've showed the bills to my current vet and she's indicated you have taken complete advantage of me. She also reviewed the over $4,000.00  bill I paid last June to remove a kidney; which the amount was never even relayed to me until I picked him up and indicated the invoice showed fraudulent charges. I trusted you as a doctor and trusted your staff to invoice me appropriately and for work that needed to be done only to find out how over the last 10 years you've taken advantage of me.Another issue I hope you are aware of: the last time I boarded Freedom there he came home with his face bludgeoned because no one felt the need to sedate him on the 4th of July. The best experience i had here was the vet assistants. They were very kind, on task, and loving to my baby. The doctor rushes you off and doesn't take any time or consideration for your pet. My dog had eye removal surgery and although it was successful he "missed" the ulcer in her now only good eye. I brought her in three days later and he tried putting it on me asking if I had a cat or given her a bath. Which I had done neither because she had a tube in her eye and a cone around her head So, now, instead of microchupping my pet I was facing a different problem I was then rushed through questions regarding my pet with two to three word replies and then I was back talking with an assistant. We had great service last night. I called ahead to ask whether I should bring my dog in after an injury. They were kind and not at all pushy, letting me know how much the charge would be for an "after hours" visit. They recommended that she be seen, but let me decide when. We were seen right away. Everyone there was compassionate. I really appreciated the gentle way they handled my dog and the conservative approach they took in her evaluation and treatment. We were in and out in less than an hour.  Although I would do anything for my dog, the price was reasonable. I'd definitely recommend them for after hours care if you can't get to your usual vet. I post a 1 star just so I can post but this hospital is just terrible. I was hand raising a 2 week old abandoned kitten. I took him in because he had trouble urinating and wasn't acting like himself. They kept him for a couple hours to give him an enema because they said he was constipated. I got him back and they assured me that he was okay but he was not okay. He was much worse than before. He was so weak he couldn't hold his head up, he couldn't stop deficating all over himself, he was drooling and wouldn't eat anymore. An hour or so later trying to keep him warm like they said, he started coughing and vomiting. He passed away shortly after. We tried calling the hospital before he passed to see if there was anything we could do but the doctor was not in and that they would call us back. How is there not a doctor at all times at a 24 hour pet hospital? They called back but it was too late. I don't understand how I put my trust into these people to help my kitten and I get him back worse than he started you want to save yourself some heartache I wouldn't go to this pet hospital, I know I never will again. They clipper burned my poodle. I had to take her to an emergency vet because her face was so badly burned. Sloppy grooming. Ears weren't even cleaned. My 10 year old dog bozo was diagnosed with broken cruciate ligament in his knee, at Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital. They said they do not do bone surgeries and referred me to go to Los Angeles to get knee surgery. Than I found about Dr Teg Sidhu at the oaks pet hospital, from a friend of mine. Dr Sidhu had done my friend's dog's knee surgery. I took Bozo to see Dr Sidhu. Dr Sidhu was excellent. He spent good amount of time with us, answered all our questions and gave us our options. We chose TPLO procedure for Bozo. And now 2 weeks after surgery Bozo just had his sutures removed today and is doing great. He is already putting weight on his leg. I came home to my puppy having a big lump on her jaw and it got bigger within an hour and she started nodding out. I was so scared, it was after hours and i want sure where to go. I called a couple places and the Oaks Vet was the most reasonably priced. They got her right in, did surgery and took such great care her! And all the follow up appts were included. They were my dog's vet for over 14 years and from the first time to the last time ( today when I went to collect the remains of my pet friend ) over the span of 14.5yrs I have come out satisfied . My dog had stayed here for boarding , all the vaccination and breathed his last here at this facility . They really took care of him and were very supportive when we were going through the hard time . They even sent a personalized card signed by all of them . I've taken all three of my dogs to another vet in Bakersfield for many years and had a bad experience with them. Our friends suggested that we give At the Oaks a try, so we did.  I took one of my dogs here, following the not so good service at the other vet, because she wasn't feeling well and Dr. Singh was so thorough and caring.  He examined her, provided the utmost attention, and explained everything to us.  We scheduled a follow up appointment and Dr. Singh was thorough yet again.  Our fur baby was on the way to feeling better.  The office really cares about their patients/clients and call to check on their patients, even if it's a follow up visit!  I strongly recommend At the Oaks because the entire staff provide excellent service :) Read Less

Prior to visiting this place, I took my chihuahua to a different vet and was very unhappy with their services and prices. We decided to try At the Oaks and were more than happy with the service! We took our cat in for emergency services and we had the worst experience ever! Sadly our cat passed away and the vet tech was the one who broke the news to us. I wanted answers, but the doctor wouldn't talk to us. I was given no explanation or condolences, just a $300 bill for him to be cremated. I am surprised in this area in which I live, with all the dogs in my neighborhood, there are only 2 reviews for this business. The lack of positive praise on line and a neighbour's not-so-great opinion of At The Oaks almost kept us from going here but one day we did call to see if we could drop by, same day to check out the facilities. It is just so close to home for us. Us coming by was no problem at all. Staff have always been great on the phone with us. There is a vet area and in a separate building right next door, grooming and boarding for larger dogs. In the vet building, there is a room for small and medium sized dogs re boarding. The buildings were clean and Bobbi was happy to show us around. Several dogs were being boarded in both areas. Dogs go out x2 a day and I like the fact that they are not socialized, just in case. There are outdoor runs for the dog to do its business, run and play but the outdoor run is not connect to the indoor run as I have seen in other places. If your dog is a digger, we were told that the fence continues underground so there can be no escape.We were impressed enough that we took our puppy in for an exam and her shots this week. The space was just as clean today as it was last week.There was a bit of paperwork for our first time in but no wait beyond that. The girls at the front were very nice and loved on our dog. The vet was prompt and was all business. No small talk. He checked our pup out, voiced that she was very healthy and administered her shots. I was surprised how little time it took and I was ok with that. (no questions asked of us about what food she is eating, did not ask us if we had any concerns/questions) Then poof, he was gone. I know this may be a turn off for some but we just wanted her taken care of and at a fair price.TIP On Saturdays, this business has a clinic 8am-noon where vaccinations are 25% off. I mainly use this facility for boarding and check-ups for my dogs and cats.  I've never used their grooming services.The office staff is pleasant when checking in my pets for boarding.  They seem like they genuinely care about your pets.  They like my cats, love my spoiled princess german shepherd, tolerated my overgrown pit bull, and fawned over my new puppy.  I feel bad for some of the staff for having to handle my 70 lb. pit bull because he was such a brute that liked to drag people around.On my last visit, I bought my new puppy in for an exam and vaccinations.  The vet spent less than 5 minutes checking his vitals and then administering vaccinations.  He checked the pup, told me he was OK, and that was it.  I would've like a little more face to face time with the vet to ask questions about puppy care.All in all, I'm satisfied with the care that my pets receive here.  It's a very middle of the road experience.  I'll stay with them because I would take an A-OK experience as opposed to venturing out and finding a new vet with a new pup in tow. The hours are great especially if you work weekdays, I love that I can schedule a visit for a weekend or after work without "emergency" rates (if you take them before 7pm I believe). This is not a cat friendly place.  I think that the new Veterinarian and assistant are very competent, but they spent no time calming my cats who were more afraid on this visit than I have ever seen them.  I don't know why.  The new vet didn't bother to introduce himself to me, he didn't bother to get to know my pets for even one minute.  I could see he was good, and his assistant (or a new vet in training) was very, very gentle.  As a pet owner with really distraught pets, I actually needed some comfort....I hate to subject my pets to this type of fear- and to have the Vet not try to calm them indicates that cats aren't valued there. I take all my pets here. Every vist is met with a smiling face and a truly caring heart. This past September my husband and I had to have our 12 year old black lab Luke put to sleep. The vet staff had our room ready and clean. They allowed us to bring his favorite bed with us so he would be as comfortable as possible. they gave us all the time we needed to say our good byes and the vet tech even sat on the floor with us as the vet did the procedure. I was given hugs and heart felt condolences when we left the hospital. I will never forget or be able to give enough thanks to the wonderful staff for all they did for us.
