Used to go here as my regular vet until my last visit. They claimed I didn't need an appt on the phone, but I'd have to do a walk in for a doctor's visit... it was a ridiculous process of having to come down twice to get on their waiting list (first time they said they were full for the day and to call back, even though I called before I came to try to set an appt). Second time I was across town and called as suggested to see if they were taking new walk ins, they said yes, but I had to physically come down to add my name again... I couldn't do it on the phone. When I said I was across town, they said by the time I got there it would probably be closed again. So I sent my mom to add us to the list. That alone was ridiculous... and then the wait time was still 5+ hours. On top of this, every time I called before this and after to check my position in line, it was a minimum 23 min hold time on the phone. Also, every time I spoke to someone they asked if it was an emergency, which I said no. My dog just had a terrible cough. Finally they said I was to be seen and to drive back down and knock on their door -- they keep their doors locked at all times now apparently. But no, you don't knock -- you AGAIN have to call and be put on a 30 minute hold to tell them you are there for your visit so they can let you in. Keep in mind, you're outside in the sweltering heat and surrounded by other people waiting to get in -- this does literally nothing for COVID prevention. I finally got in, was taken to a room with my dog, and then had to wait another hour and 20 minutes to have the doctor come in, spend 5 minutes looking at my dog, and prescribe medication. I then had to wait another 44 minutes for them to fill two tiny bottles. And when I say fill, I don't mean fill, they didn't even fill enough cough suppressant to last the 10 days they said she should take it. After getting the meds, I walked out to pay the bill and was floored at the price which I only saw after the transaction completed -- they charged me for an emergency visit, not a regular appt. Each time I had spoken to them I was asked if it was an emergency -- to receive expedited care. It wasn't so I said no. That made me have to wait more than 6 hours and make multiple trips to even be seen. But then I'm charged as if it was an emergency? And no one ever told me my visit would be charged this way?! If you plan to charge an exam fee that is $135, when you normally charge $45, you better let the existing customer know that in advance. Also, if I'm going to have to pay for an expedited emergency visit, I should receive that level of care rather than waiting for half a day. I got the excuse that they have only 2 doctors working there now... so what! How is your lack of doctors working at your facility my problem? They have an entire staff that literally does nothing and is completely rude. They could have taken steps to push customers though quicker and explained their fee changes before services were rendered. It's a shame, I've been going here for over 10 years... but this was a deal breaker. Not only do their COVID measures make literally no sense (why do I need to come down to be added to your walk-in list if it's then a 5+ hour wait?!), but the care I received did not even help my dog. Absurd. This place is being run into the ground by terrible management. Do not recommend for any kind of services.

I recently had to have two of my pets put down and they were so kind and compassionate. You can tell they truly enjoy their jobs and will give your pet the best care possible.

By far the best and passionate staff I have ever seen at a veterinary hospital. I recently had to put my best friend of 15 years to sleep and the staff was second to none. The vet was so compassionate that he even had tears in his eyes for a dog he had never seen or known before. Talking about loving what you do, "WOW". They even sent a card that was actually hand written not computer generated. I will always take my furry kids here going forward. For me, price isn't an issue if you truly love your best friend and I'm far from being rich. To me the price was fair everytime I've been there. All I can say is thank you BAKERSFIELD VETERINARY HOSPITAL.

The dr finally came in apologized for the wait and said they were taking care of the animals that were here already????
The staff at front desk are not very friendly actually was very rude to a older gentlemen who came in with sick dog .

They brought us in through a side door to get privacy from the people in the waiting area. Gave us time with our beloved pet. My mom juat received a condolence letter from the clinic as well. This place is amazing. I needed to find a place to put my cat down as she was sick and suffering. I called many places and not only did this place have the lowest price by far but they were the only ones to not complicated it with so many options when I was already distressed. I believe it was a flat rate of $67 with the option to buy a keepsake paw print for about $30. That's it. Every person was nice and understanding and I never felt rushed. This is the only place I will go. The facility is nice and clean. We were given a room immediately. Highly recommend this place.

The BVH is just plain awesome. It's obvious that they really care about animals. They treat the animals with the same respect and care as you would expect when treating a person. They are always respectful and caring and they listen to your concerns and needs. Although busy they are prompt and actively working to care for animals. When they are delayed they actually come to inform you why things are being held up. They are however a very busy office and wait times can be very long as a walk-in, It is strongly advised that you have an appointment. On my recent visit to care for my elderly cat they actually saw us earlier than my appointed time. However when my cat was very ill and I had to come as an emergency my wait time was much much longer. This is an emergency hospital however and emergency surgeries may take place affecting their appointment schedule. The entire facility is very clean and cared for, there are restrooms, a nice waiting area, and a child's play area as well. As I said earlier they treat their patients with care and love and not like cattle as I've experienced at other veterinarians. Thank you for your care and compassion.

Dr. Alvarado and staff were exceptional when our precious Howie had a medical emergency. They were kind, compassionate, and comforting. Dr. Alvarado called to check on Howie and even gave us his cell number in case things took a turn for the worse. Howie is very skittish but loved Dr. Alvarado from the moment he entered the room, which made us feel at ease. I will be taking all of my pets to BVH from now on. I took my dog Sassy in last week. She was very old and had gotten suddenly ill! They were very kind to us and wonderful with her. She ended up being admitted to the hospital and they were great at giving updates. Unfortunately, she did not improve and she was put to sleep. They allowed me to hold her and comfort her. The entire staff was very respectful and kind during this time. A few days later I received a sympathy card with a note from Dr. Dickson. This personal touch and compassion that they show is why my puppy will be receiving all her care here!

I used this veterinary service for the first time about a week ago. Unfortunately it was to have our old dog euthanized. I was impressed with the hospital. When we came in we didn't have to wait. They put us straight into a room. We used a vet tech and she was very kind. She wanted to take Clover, our girl, in the back to put the IV in. I asked if I could be with her so she wouldn't be afraid. She did it in the room with me there. Clover was on the table laying down and I was able to put my arms around her and be next to her face and ear to comfort her. I feel that it is the least I can do for my dogs after they have given me their lifetime of love and loyalty. The tech also talked Clover through it. She was very kind. The cost of something like this should not have to be a factor. Unfortunately for some it is. I found them to be the most reasonable of anyone I checked with. They also answer if you send them a message through the website. I will be taking all of my dogs there from now on. Rest In Peace sweet Clover. You will be loved forever.

I absolutely love this place. I switched to this vet approximately 7 years ago because it has extended appointment hours and 24 hr emergency services. They also have amazing boarding services. The staff does an amazing job dealing with my crazy pups. Over the years my dogs have been there for everything from routine visits to emergency surgeries and unique medical issues. We have always had great service. More recently, my mother had to put her elderly dog down. Her vet was closed, but the staff at BVH were able to help us out and make the process as easy as possible.
I have seen other comments about the prices being expensive; however, I haven't found that to be the case - especially for the level and quality of service provided. In fact, BVH has been cheaper than my last vet. So, I have zero complaints on pricing.

My dog was found after 33 days of being out in the fields thanks to our gardner leaving our gate open. We took him straight to Bakersfield Vet and they saw him right away. Dr. Betts and the staff were amazing to our baby while he was admitted to the hospital side for 48 hours. I don't trust anyone else with our animals.

I've been bringing my fur babies to this vet for years for after-hour emergencies since I lived in Tehachapi, but now that I live back in Bakersfield I will use them full time! My 7 month old lab swallowed a very large quilting pin 2 nights ago. I took him in to the Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital at 10:30 pm and was in a room in a few minutes, then he was in surgery in a short time later. The Dr called me at 12:30 am to let me know Gunner did good and then she called again to update me at 7:30 am. I went to visit him later in the day and the staff were so friendly and welcoming, offered to open his cage so I could love on him, I kept him in because I wanted him to remain calm since he still had his IV in. When I went to pick Gunner up he was treated like a king, everyone knew his name and the staff all loved on him. When you know your pets are in great hands, that is piece of mind money can't buy! Thank you to the entire staff for taking such wonderful care of my boy, you guys rock!

My experience at the Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital. There was really no long-term waiting they got me in immediately they were knowledgeable and didn't do unnecessary procedures that would have cost money in layman's term they don't rip you off. They were knowledgeable on Pet Care and petlife. My cat was very ill. They showed compassion and offered me alternative. That is where I'm taking every one of my animals from now on.

I went for the past three days to this vet trying to get help for my very very I'll dog but because I didn't have enough money for the visit I was turned away three times in leads than 48 hours so finally I got enough to pay for the office visit so my dog starts bleeding from rectum bad they told me bring her in asap u can for now just pay the office visit fee then after we determine what is wrong with her will go from there if we couldn't afford treatment after being told our options then we would sign our baby over to them to have her taken care of so we go the minute we walk in they grab our dog and take her to the back they gave us papers to fill out before they could start helping her then as soon as paper work was done the nurse comes back out and says OK we can not tell u anything not what is wrong or if she was being put down or what because they said we had signed over our dog..... we weren't t ever even given the option to pay for our dogs treatment or even told washer was wrong with her .....They stole our baby from us on 11/11/16 and until she is returned to us we will be there everyday to make sure everyone knows what this place did to us our dog was our daughter and we haven't stopped crying for her yet.we want our baby back

The dog is dead now thanks to you guys... And he suffered till the end... Enjoy your $300 though... Hope it buys all sorts of luxurious crap for yourselves.... Ever hear of taking care of animals first and worrying about the $$$ later?? Friggin payment plan?? Hmmm May God have mercy on your greedy little souls...

Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital is the BEST option in Bakersfield for your pet-child! I've been bringing my puppy Stella here for 3 months now, and every single time has been a positive experience. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the vets have been very nice to my pup. I do like that they are open on the weekends, that is great for someone with a busy schedule. I have not used their boarding services, but plan to once Stella is old enough and up to date with her vaccines. I also plan on using their grooming services ... one place that has it ALL! They've been very nice and have trimmed Stella's nails when I go in, and they are always very gentle and loving towards her.

I have taken my animals here for many years. This past October I took in my senior cat who had the Senior panal and xrays. A few days later, I received a call from Dr. Betts (who is just wonderful) who informed me my Cotton is diabetic and walked me through each senerio with or without treatment. It has been quite the journey on getting my boy healthy again, but here we are in May 2016 and with proper feeding and insulin 2x a day he doesn't have to go back for 6 mos. Happy!!! In January we noticed our Stafford Shire Terrier was not herself, same basic workup as my cat. She on the other hand was not going to last much longer. She had cancer, I of course wanted to know what route would be best. Dr Aquire I believe it was explained the different avenues we could or could not take. As it turned out we would've have been prolonging the enevitable so we putt her down. We were never pushed to make a choice and were told to take as long as we needed to say our goodbye. Just all around a great Hospital for your fur babies

The boarding staff is caring and I feel very comfortable leaving our dog with them. The hospital team is great. The reception staff is always friendly and the reception area is always clean and odor free. I would highly recommend BVH for all of your pet needs. They definitely rate a 10+!

We are NOT happy campers.
One week ago, she was in a freak dog park accident. Jimmy took her to Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital for emergency services. $500 later, she was sent home with sutures and a drain tube. I took her back 3 days later (Tuesday) for a re-check. Her wound looked bad and was oozing a lot of nasty looking goop. I was told to take her back home and keep an eye on it. I was also charged another $100 for an antibiotic that she "had" to have. I go back 2 days later (Thursday) for another recheck and was informed that there was an area of dead tissue and the stitches were coming apart. Sooooo... You'd think it would get fixed right? NOPE. Again, I was told to take her home and just keep an eye on it.
One thing I found odd? Not ONCE did a doctor ever come and talk to us or let us know what was going on. Every question I had, I had to ask a tech, who would go ask a doctor, who would then come back out to relay the message.
I felt uneasy with their lack of responsiveness or care but thought maybe I was being overprotective so I took her home to care for her like they said.
This morning at 2:30 am, she was making a weird noise so I get up and find her SEIZING.
I called the hospital to tell them her wound had opened and ask if the meds they gave her would cause seizures. I foolishly thought they would tell me to come in and they would fix it... But instead? I was told I have to pay ANOTHER $98 just to have a nurse *look* at her???! Not only that, she informed me that NONE of the doctors there wanted to take responsibility for her because they weren't the ones that did her original treatment. All the while, not an ounce of compassion or care in the techs voice. She said I needed to WAIT until 6pm tonight to see if "maybe" the original doctor would do something. Um. HECK. NO.
At this point, I'm feeling ripped off, uncared for, and horribly disappointed. My poor dog is in pain, not healing, and they are doing nothing to make us feel confident in her care and treatment. They have shown us they only care about the money. We have followed her care instructions exactly the way they told us and kept a close eye on her during this whole ordeal.
We needed a second opinion.
We went to Banfield Pet Hospital.
We paid another $300 for wound cleanup and re-suture. But at least now, I feel confident in her care because the doctor himself came out and talked to us, reassured us, and showed compassion, care and love towards our precious Charlie. He made sure she was comfortable and taken care of immediately. Even though he wasn't the original doctor, that didn't stop Dr. Torres from providing genuine and sincere care towards the health of our pet. He showed us what needed to be done, explained the procedure, and made sure we understood what the prognosis was. He also made sure we were set up with another appointment for a wound check and suture removal. Thank you Banfield for providing excellent customer care and service.
We will NOT be going back to Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital. Ever. No thank you. We love our pet too much to place her in the hands of such uncaring people.

Used to go here as my regular vet until my last visit. They claimed I didn't need an appt on the phone, but I'd have to do a walk in for a doctor's visit... it was a ridiculous process of having to come down twice to get on their waiting list (first time they said they were full for the day and to call back, even though I called before I came to try to set an appt). Second time I was across town and called as suggested to see if they were taking new walk ins, they said yes, but I had to physically come down to add my name again... I couldn't do it on the phone. When I said I was across town, they said by the time I got there it would probably be closed again. So I sent my mom to add us to the list. That alone was ridiculous... and then the wait time was still 5+ hours. On top of this, every time I called before this and after to check my position in line, it was a minimum 23 min hold time on the phone. Also, every time I spoke to someone they asked if it was an emergency, which I said no. My dog just had a terrible cough. Finally they said I was to be seen and to drive back down and knock on their door -- they keep their doors locked at all times now apparently. But no, you don't knock -- you AGAIN have to call and be put on a 30 minute hold to tell them you are there for your visit so they can let you in. Keep in mind, you're outside in the sweltering heat and surrounded by other people waiting to get in -- this does literally nothing for COVID prevention. I finally got in, was taken to a room with my dog, and then had to wait another hour and 20 minutes to have the doctor come in, spend 5 minutes looking at my dog, and prescribe medication. I then had to wait another 44 minutes for them to fill two tiny bottles. And when I say fill, I don't mean fill, they didn't even fill enough cough suppressant to last the 10 days they said she should take it. After getting the meds, I walked out to pay the bill and was floored at the price which I only saw after the transaction completed -- they charged me for an emergency visit, not a regular appt. Each time I had spoken to them I was asked if it was an emergency -- to receive expedited care. It wasn't so I said no. That made me have to wait more than 6 hours and make multiple trips to even be seen. But then I'm charged as if it was an emergency? And no one ever told me my visit would be charged this way?! If you plan to charge an exam fee that is $135, when you normally charge $45, you better let the existing customer know that in advance. Also, if I'm going to have to pay for an expedited emergency visit, I should receive that level of care rather than waiting for half a day. I got the excuse that they have only 2 doctors working there now... so what! How is your lack of doctors working at your facility my problem? They have an entire staff that literally does nothing and is completely rude. They could have taken steps to push customers though quicker and explained their fee changes before services were rendered. It's a shame, I've been going here for over 10 years... but this was a deal breaker. Not only do their COVID measures make literally no sense (why do I need to come down to be added to your walk-in list if it's then a 5+ hour wait?!), but the care I received did not even help my dog. Absurd. This place is being run into the ground by terrible management. Do not recommend for any kind of services.

I recently had to have two of my pets put down and they were so kind and compassionate. You can tell they truly enjoy their jobs and will give your pet the best care possible.

By far the best and passionate staff I have ever seen at a veterinary hospital. I recently had to put my best friend of 15 years to sleep and the staff was second to none. The vet was so compassionate that he even had tears in his eyes for a dog he had never seen or known before. Talking about loving what you do, "WOW". They even sent a card that was actually hand written not computer generated. I will always take my furry kids here going forward. For me, price isn't an issue if you truly love your best friend and I'm far from being rich. To me the price was fair everytime I've been there. All I can say is thank you BAKERSFIELD VETERINARY HOSPITAL.

They brought us in through a side door to get privacy from the people in the waiting area. Gave us time with our beloved pet. My mom juat received a condolence letter from the clinic as well. This place is amazing. I needed to find a place to put my cat down as she was sick and suffering. I called many places and not only did this place have the lowest price by far but they were the only ones to not complicated it with so many options when I was already distressed. I believe it was a flat rate of $67 with the option to buy a keepsake paw print for about $30. That's it. Every person was nice and understanding and I never felt rushed. This is the only place I will go. The facility is nice and clean. We were given a room immediately. Highly recommend this place.

The BVH is just plain awesome. It's obvious that they really care about animals. They treat the animals with the same respect and care as you would expect when treating a person. They are always respectful and caring and they listen to your concerns and needs. Although busy they are prompt and actively working to care for animals. When they are delayed they actually come to inform you why things are being held up. They are however a very busy office and wait times can be very long as a walk-in, It is strongly advised that you have an appointment. On my recent visit to care for my elderly cat they actually saw us earlier than my appointed time. However when my cat was very ill and I had to come as an emergency my wait time was much much longer. This is an emergency hospital however and emergency surgeries may take place affecting their appointment schedule. The entire facility is very clean and cared for, there are restrooms, a nice waiting area, and a child's play area as well. As I said earlier they treat their patients with care and love and not like cattle as I've experienced at other veterinarians. Thank you for your care and compassion.

Dr. Alvarado and staff were exceptional when our precious Howie had a medical emergency. They were kind, compassionate, and comforting. Dr. Alvarado called to check on Howie and even gave us his cell number in case things took a turn for the worse. Howie is very skittish but loved Dr. Alvarado from the moment he entered the room, which made us feel at ease. I will be taking all of my pets to BVH from now on. I took my dog Sassy in last week. She was very old and had gotten suddenly ill! They were very kind to us and wonderful with her. She ended up being admitted to the hospital and they were great at giving updates. Unfortunately, she did not improve and she was put to sleep. They allowed me to hold her and comfort her. The entire staff was very respectful and kind during this time. A few days later I received a sympathy card with a note from Dr. Dickson. This personal touch and compassion that they show is why my puppy will be receiving all her care here!

I used this veterinary service for the first time about a week ago. Unfortunately it was to have our old dog euthanized. I was impressed with the hospital. When we came in we didn't have to wait. They put us straight into a room. We used a vet tech and she was very kind. She wanted to take Clover, our girl, in the back to put the IV in. I asked if I could be with her so she wouldn't be afraid. She did it in the room with me there. Clover was on the table laying down and I was able to put my arms around her and be next to her face and ear to comfort her. I feel that it is the least I can do for my dogs after they have given me their lifetime of love and loyalty. The tech also talked Clover through it. She was very kind. The cost of something like this should not have to be a factor. Unfortunately for some it is. I found them to be the most reasonable of anyone I checked with. They also answer if you send them a message through the website. I will be taking all of my dogs there from now on. Rest In Peace sweet Clover. You will be loved forever.

I absolutely love this place. I switched to this vet approximately 7 years ago because it has extended appointment hours and 24 hr emergency services. They also have amazing boarding services. The staff does an amazing job dealing with my crazy pups. Over the years my dogs have been there for everything from routine visits to emergency surgeries and unique medical issues. We have always had great service. More recently, my mother had to put her elderly dog down. Her vet was closed, but the staff at BVH were able to help us out and make the process as easy as possible.
I have seen other comments about the prices being expensive; however, I haven't found that to be the case - especially for the level and quality of service provided. In fact, BVH has been cheaper than my last vet. So, I have zero complaints on pricing.

My dog was found after 33 days of being out in the fields thanks to our gardner leaving our gate open. We took him straight to Bakersfield Vet and they saw him right away. Dr. Betts and the staff were amazing to our baby while he was admitted to the hospital side for 48 hours. I don't trust anyone else with our animals.

I've been bringing my fur babies to this vet for years for after-hour emergencies since I lived in Tehachapi, but now that I live back in Bakersfield I will use them full time! My 7 month old lab swallowed a very large quilting pin 2 nights ago. I took him in to the Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital at 10:30 pm and was in a room in a few minutes, then he was in surgery in a short time later. The Dr called me at 12:30 am to let me know Gunner did good and then she called again to update me at 7:30 am. I went to visit him later in the day and the staff were so friendly and welcoming, offered to open his cage so I could love on him, I kept him in because I wanted him to remain calm since he still had his IV in. When I went to pick Gunner up he was treated like a king, everyone knew his name and the staff all loved on him. When you know your pets are in great hands, that is piece of mind money can't buy! Thank you to the entire staff for taking such wonderful care of my boy, you guys rock!

My experience at the Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital. There was really no long-term waiting they got me in immediately they were knowledgeable and didn't do unnecessary procedures that would have cost money in layman's term they don't rip you off. They were knowledgeable on Pet Care and petlife. My cat was very ill. They showed compassion and offered me alternative. That is where I'm taking every one of my animals from now on.

I went for the past three days to this vet trying to get help for my very very I'll dog but because I didn't have enough money for the visit I was turned away three times in leads than 48 hours so finally I got enough to pay for the office visit so my dog starts bleeding from rectum bad they told me bring her in asap u can for now just pay the office visit fee then after we determine what is wrong with her will go from there if we couldn't afford treatment after being told our options then we would sign our baby over to them to have her taken care of so we go the minute we walk in they grab our dog and take her to the back they gave us papers to fill out before they could start helping her then as soon as paper work was done the nurse comes back out and says OK we can not tell u anything not what is wrong or if she was being put down or what because they said we had signed over our dog..... we weren't t ever even given the option to pay for our dogs treatment or even told washer was wrong with her .....They stole our baby from us on 11/11/16 and until she is returned to us we will be there everyday to make sure everyone knows what this place did to us our dog was our daughter and we haven't stopped crying for her yet.we want our baby back

The dog is dead now thanks to you guys... And he suffered till the end... Enjoy your $300 though... Hope it buys all sorts of luxurious crap for yourselves.... Ever hear of taking care of animals first and worrying about the $$$ later?? Friggin payment plan?? Hmmm May God have mercy on your greedy little souls...

Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital is the BEST option in Bakersfield for your pet-child! I've been bringing my puppy Stella here for 3 months now, and every single time has been a positive experience. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the vets have been very nice to my pup. I do like that they are open on the weekends, that is great for someone with a busy schedule. I have not used their boarding services, but plan to once Stella is old enough and up to date with her vaccines. I also plan on using their grooming services ... one place that has it ALL! They've been very nice and have trimmed Stella's nails when I go in, and they are always very gentle and loving towards her.

I have taken my animals here for many years. This past October I took in my senior cat who had the Senior panal and xrays. A few days later, I received a call from Dr. Betts (who is just wonderful) who informed me my Cotton is diabetic and walked me through each senerio with or without treatment. It has been quite the journey on getting my boy healthy again, but here we are in May 2016 and with proper feeding and insulin 2x a day he doesn't have to go back for 6 mos. Happy!!! In January we noticed our Stafford Shire Terrier was not herself, same basic workup as my cat. She on the other hand was not going to last much longer. She had cancer, I of course wanted to know what route would be best. Dr Aquire I believe it was explained the different avenues we could or could not take. As it turned out we would've have been prolonging the enevitable so we putt her down. We were never pushed to make a choice and were told to take as long as we needed to say our goodbye. Just all around a great Hospital for your fur babies

Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital is super! We have been extremely pleased with all of their services. The grooming salon staff is wonderful. The boarding staff is caring and I feel very comfortable leaving our dog with them. The hospital team is great. The reception staff is always friendly and the reception area is always clean and odor free. I would highly recommend BVH for all of your pet needs. They definitely rate a 10+!

Our poor Charlie girl.
We are NOT happy campers.
One week ago, she was in a freak dog park accident. Jimmy took her to Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital for emergency services. $500 later, she was sent home with sutures and a drain tube. I took her back 3 days later (Tuesday) for a re-check. Her wound looked bad and was oozing a lot of nasty looking goop. I was told to take her back home and keep an eye on it. I was also charged another $100 for an antibiotic that she "had" to have. I go back 2 days later (Thursday) for another recheck and was informed that there was an area of dead tissue and the stitches were coming apart. Sooooo... You'd think it would get fixed right? NOPE. Again, I was told to take her home and just keep an eye on it.
One thing I found odd? Not ONCE did a doctor ever come and talk to us or let us know what was going on. Every question I had, I had to ask a tech, who would go ask a doctor, who would then come back out to relay the message.
I felt uneasy with their lack of responsiveness or care but thought maybe I was being overprotective so I took her home to care for her like they said.
This morning at 2:30 am, she was making a weird noise so I get up and find her SEIZING.
I called the hospital to tell them her wound had opened and ask if the meds they gave her would cause seizures. I foolishly thought they would tell me to come in and they would fix it... But instead? I was told I have to pay ANOTHER $98 just to have a nurse *look* at her???! Not only that, she informed me that NONE of the doctors there wanted to take responsibility for her because they weren't the ones that did her original treatment. All the while, not an ounce of compassion or care in the techs voice. She said I needed to WAIT until 6pm tonight to see if "maybe" the original doctor would do something. Um. HECK. NO.
At this point, I'm feeling ripped off, uncared for, and horribly disappointed. My poor dog is in pain, not healing, and they are doing nothing to make us feel confident in her care and treatment. They have shown us they only care about the money. We have followed her care instructions exactly the way they told us and kept a close eye on her during this whole ordeal.
We needed a second opinion.
We went to Banfield Pet Hospital.
We paid another $300 for wound cleanup and re-suture. But at least now, I feel confident in her care because the doctor himself came out and talked to us, reassured us, and showed compassion, care and love towards our precious Charlie. He made sure she was comfortable and taken care of immediately. Even though he wasn't the original doctor, that didn't stop Dr. Torres from providing genuine and sincere care towards the health of our pet. He showed us what needed to be done, explained the procedure, and made sure we understood what the prognosis was. He also made sure we were set up with another appointment for a wound check and suture removal. Thank you Banfield for providing excellent customer care and service.
We will NOT be going back to Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital. Ever. No thank you. We love our pet too much to place her in the hands of such uncaring people.
