The vet is very impersonal which doesn't help when you have to put your animal down. The waiting room is fairly big and I don't have enough experience going here except when I had to put my dog down. The three stars was just how my animal was handled and put down. It was hard to watch the vet tape my little dog's mouth shut before he injected him. The vet did give me a break on the cost by not making me have to pay for another consultation if I decided which I did not making me have to pay for another consultation if I decided I would be putting him down that day Read Less

DO NOT take your dog to this vet if they have parvo! They will do nothing for your baby! The whole treatment for a dog that has parvo is FLUIDS!!! But instead they just send you home with pills that you have to shove down your dogs throat. My dog only got worse after my visit here! I took her to another vet and they gave me so much more info about everything and sent me home with lots of fluids and Also told me to go back for a check up visit and for another shot so she doesn't throw up all of her fluids, WHICH this vet didn't even suggest!! I will never come here again. Not to mention the Dr here is so RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. But seriously, take your dog who has parvo somewhere else, because they don't send fluids here and that is what your dog NEEDS to survive this deadly virus. Read Less

Awful.  Called one afternoon after already bringing my cat in a week earlier. He had developed a limp after being treated.  They told me to bring her in the next day at 9:30.  I was there and waited for 2 HOURS.  I walked out after telling the clerk.  She stated I had not made an appointment after I CALLED THE DAY BEFORE ABOUT MY SICK CAT.  They overbook, my cat was so traumatized by the dozens of people that came and went with their yapping dogs and screaming kids.  Care about your cat?? Called to see how much it would cost to microchip my 2 dogs, they charge $45 each and that's without the microchip registration fee (usually $17 each). Its literally cheaper to buy 5 pre-registered microchips online and do it myself lol Read Less

This is a very busy office. Don't be surprised if you have to wait a while. The staff are hard-working but sometimes there are a lot of chihuahuas and other dogs to take care of.Our experiences have been with cats (Dr. Shane Reno is good with cats). A few years ago we brought in a cat with a bad injury to its hind leg after it fled from a dog attack. The cat could barely walk and was in obvious pain. We thought her leg was broken. X-rays (overnight) showed a torn ACL in the cat's knee (Dr. Reno said it was a common sports injury in humans!). He offered the option of surgery for $600 -- but he said the injury might heal on its own, as the cat was still able to stand and walk. We couldn't afford the surgery. Years later, our cat is alive and well, although she can't run fast or jump very high, and she is obese. Read Less

I took my puppy with a heart murmur here for a referral to a cardiologist. The older doctor there listened to him then told me he'd be dead before a year old and I told him I still wanted the referral.  He told me that there was no medication that would fix his heart.  I told him that I was aware of that but there was a surgery that a cardiologist could perform.  He told me again that there was no medication.  I told him I was aiming for surgery. He told me that my puppy was a mutt and not worth the money for the surgery.  Will never return to this place. Read Less

I recently had to make the heart wrenching decision to put my dogs to sleep 2 in one year. A few days later we relieved a card with everyone in the office signed and Dr Reno. Northwood Veterinary Hospital were great. We had a foster dog for a few months and we took her there for a skin rash. They were nice and I would use them once we get our permanent dog. The staff is nice. The price is good. There was not a big problem getting in and we didn't have to wait a long time to see them. Read Less

My dog had leg amputation at Mt Vernon Veterinary Hospital 2 months ago. I can only say that there are awesome people all around, from front desk to the doctors, everyone was kind and positive, and they treated my dog really well. While vacationing in Bakersfield, my poodle, Poochie, got sick. The closest vet was located at the Mt. Vernon Veterinary Hospital, so I took Poochie over and I talked to the staff about my situation. The receptionist was very empathetic, friendly, and was able to get Poochie in to see the vet. Dr. Reno was like the "poodle whisperer" and he lulled Poochie into such a calm state that he was able to get a diagnosis pretty quick. He was super friendly and highly knowledgeable about all kinds of animals (we had the most interesting conversation). We were out of there in no time and Poochie was back to her old self within a day. Big thanks to the team at Mt. Vernon Vet Hospital for taking care of my Poochie! I highly recommend their services! Came here for years, told I could bring in my litters stool sample and pay when I came back for their app to get results and treatment. Go down there to be told no. She clearly told me it  was fine. I didn't bring my purse so I wasted my time and friends gas. I explained that I've been going for seven years and have an appointment for shots and results so not sure what the big deal was or why  They lied. I cancelled my appointment and won't be back. I've been coming here for years and have never had a bad experience. Dr Reno is great, he has such a great, compassionate demeanor with the animals. I feel like he really cares! I have been to other vets who seemed cold and have had bad experiences with them. I learned from my mistakes and now drive across town to someone I trust. We recently had to put our sweet boy to sleep after finding out he had feline leukemia. A few days after I got a sympathy card from them and the whole staff signed it! Went here after a horrible experience with so many veterinarians in town. When they advertise as affordable or you have an appointment and wait hours to be seen, really for pet care? I knew about Dr. Reno because he lives in my neighborhood and I've always wanted to go to him it was just the drive.So I called and got a same day appointment for all the rounds of vaccinations. They said they would get my records from the previous veterinary office for me.  Awesome except I get a call from that office telling me that it's going to be a $15 fee to fax my records to this office. Really? The reason I left that office was that the new owners raised the prices so high it didn't make sense to keep going to them.We get to our appointment and we were pleasantly surprised by how nice of an office and that the drive was not as bad as I was anticipating. Dr. Shane Reno is so caring, our dogs seemed so calm with his way with them and he was so gentle and compassionate truly with them. All of the staff were very nice. I just wish we would of came here years ago. If you were considering bringing your pets to Dr. Reno and this office I highly recommend you do for all the reasons I gave. Cleanliness, nice staff and an awesome Veterinarian who is affordable. Nice large parking lot. They've been there for us through puppy vaccinations, colicky horses, dog/chocolate incidents, and even those unfortunate times when furry family members pass on.
