I was going out of town for the weekend and my 14yo minpin needed a booster and a dental checkup. Not only was their boarding HALF the price of others, they got my dog in while he was there and gave me a great deal! We’ve been taking multiple dogs here for several years and even when we had to put one down, they were so compassionate to our family and consoled our kids. I LOVE LOVE this place (and their other Southwest location). I have 7 pets- yes 7. 3 dogs, 2 rabbits, a guinea pig and a rat. It's really difficult to find a vet for exotic animals, so I spent quite a bit of time searching Bakersfield to see what they had to offer. I'm from Los Angeles, so it's definitely nerve wracking to switch vets and expect good care. The clinic itself is on the older side, with a super busy, super small waiting room. I won't even remove a star for this, because they work with what they have and do their best to accommodate. It's very clean both in the waiting room, and in the patient rooms, so I have no qualms. I brought in my rat, who is a senior (he's over 3 years old). Luckily they have a vet who does exotics, and they scheduled me as soon as they could. The vet I saw was AMAZING. She spent about 30 mins with us, checking him over, being as gentle as possible, and answering my millions of questions. She diagnosed him with arthritis and started us on non-steroidal anti-inflammatories. I swear, my rat was a new man within one dosage of this stuff. I can't be more happy with how things worked. Best part?? Prices are totally reasonable, they really care about you and your pet, and try their hardest to work with the busy insanity that is this place. IF YOU HAVE EXOTIC PETS TAKE THEM HERE!!! I came in eary, 10 min, and wsited an hour to be seen. When everyone in the place left one other person came on wkthput an appointment, she was taken right in to the vet. Good for her bad for me and my dog. Ive been waiting for the vet to call me about the blood test For six days and i called the vet, was put on hold and told tbe doctor would call me when she could. I've only been here once, to get my cat spayed. I thought about switching to this location from southwest, because it's a little closer to me, but I think I prefer southwest just a bit. a lot of the staff was really helpful, but the first person I dealt with was a bit short with me when I first brought my cat in. not a huge deal though. We won't take our animals anywhere else. Unfortunately we lost 4 of our babies in the last 2 yrs due to age, diabetes and cancer...as terrible as it is to lose part of your family Stiern's staff is always so kind. There is nothing on this Earth that I love more than my dog and they do a great job at taking care of him. "Most" of the vets here do a great job at making my dog feel comfortable and that means the world to me because to me there is nothing worse than seeing somebody who doesnt care do there job. The girls at the front desk are very kind and very friendly. Very fair prices and I hear theyre the cheapest in town. (I wouldnt know because I only come here) They lose a star here because they told my GF that my dog has a heart murmer and the vet started crying and that freaked my GF out, Very unprofessional. I brought my fur baby in to get spayed. I have been taking my pets to a different vet but when I was looking at prices they were significantly cheaper and the reviews looked good so I decided to give them a try. I was so impressed all around. Their facility was clean, the customer service was impeccable and I was able to bring my baby in within 2 business days. They were extremely informative and answered all my questions, and then some. I didn't get the receptionists name, but she was so helpful and it made me feel good when I called and she knew exactly who I was talking about as soon as I mentioned Mars. She did forget to mention an extra fee when I was originally quoted, but the fact that she took FULL responsibility, to me, showed honesty and integrityI'm thinking of coming back here for all my dogs needs. I was very impressed when they called me to follow up and see how she was doing and if I had any questions or concerns. I cannot express how happy I was with them. Very upset with the service. The first time I took my pup here they helped her and had a reasonable pricing. I go in today because I noticed the issue had returned so I asked to buy more of the medicine and they said no, and that she needed to be seen again. I tried to explain that it was the same issue as before and all I was being told was that I need to pay to have my dog seen. I left very upset and with the belief they cared more about making a profit instead of helping my dog. Will be searching for a new vet in the area. Read Less

We had a miserable experience at a different vet a few months ago when we took our 5 yr old terrier-mix in for his booster shots. It was traumatizing for our dog, and us as well. When he injured his paw over the weekend (ripped his claw away from the quick), we knew he needed immediate care, but had serious reservations about taking him back to the same place. Stiern was recommended as an alternative, and we're so glad we followed the advice. We walked in and were able to make an appointment for the very next day. Everyone at Stiern was so kind and informative. They listened to our concerns and patiently explained what our options for treatment were. They were gentle and patient with our dog and took such excellent care of his poor little paw. It was a complete 180 from our previous experience, and a huge relief for us as pet owners who love our little guy dearly. We won't be taking our dog anywhere else but Stiern for all his future checkups and health needs. They were absolutely wonderful. A wonderful experience! The office staff was very nice and professional. Thlaylie is generally very scared in situations like going to the vet, but the staff at Stiern put her at ease! She really liked the doctors assistant, Josh, and he even had her purring. I appreciated that Josh went out of his way to give me further information that could aide me in giving her her medication. Doctor Bollier was very kind and informative. He was also straight forward with costs and I did not feel like I was being bamboozled! I will definitely be taking the rest of my fur kids back to Stiern. My only criticism would be about the location. Since it is right on Monterey St by the 178 entrance, traffic is quite busy/loud. My dog was hit by a car and stabilized at the ER but needed xrays the next morning. I called around for pricing and info as we are new dog owners and didn't know much about it. The prices I was quoted were reasonable compared to everyone else and after reading other reviews decided this was the place. SOOO glad I did! The staff and Dr were execellent and very professional. They worked with us as we didn't have a lot of money. When I say they worked with me, I mean they went far beyond what I even hoped for. We have been taking our dogs here for several years now and we always get great service. It is easy to make an appointment and you don't wait long to get back and see the vet. The staff is friendly and the cost isn't bad. They don't try and pull one over on you; they are fair and honest. They don't try and add a bunch of unnecessary stuff to try and make a buck. Well, I called today to request a ballpark estimate on three specific procedures for my dog and they refused to give one unless I paid $50 for a visit. Since an estimate is pretty standard and several other vets are willing to work with me, I am going to one of them instead. I have a large breed dog, a 135 lb Italian mastiff to be exact.  My dog is a fantastic dog, but very nervous around strangers. The staff here is fantastic and very helpful with my pup. They accomdate my needs when it comes to my dog, they know his issues and respect how I need things done. They also are very straight forward and wouldn't recommend anything you don't need.  Prices are about the norm, but can you really put a price on your dogs health? Our dogs are our children, and at Stiern Veterinary clinic, The staff treat them that way.  Our basset hound gets very nervous going to the vet, but the staff here is so understanding and comforting. Our shepherd mix is just the sweetest dog, although he is a bit hyper. When we took him to the vet at a local pet store, they had to muzzle him and had no patience for him. Ive had nothing but positive experiences at Stiern. From the receptionists, vet techs and vet's, its the best veterinarian hospital I have visited in town. I have gone to Banfield and have had horrible experiences there. They basically bully you into buying their crap insurance that doesnt cover anything. My 4 year old toy poodle Toby has been attended to by Dr. Rakow and Dr. Anderson and I have been pleased with the outcomes. In one instance, he had a bad case of diarrhea and after 2 days of him taking medication recommended by Dr. Anderson, he was back to normal. Its great to have a place that gives me piece of mind. We've been going to the Monterey location since we got our dog over a year ago and have nothing but fantastic things to say about the entire staff! Dr. Seeley has been great with both our dog and cats and helped us through a very hard time earlier this year when one of our beloved cats crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Every single member of their staff was amazing during this difficult time and I cannot thank them enough for their support. We have had great service for our dog who has been experiencing some issues and between Dr. Seeley and Dr. Bollier we have him dialed in on a regime that works for him and us. Their front desk staff is always so happy to see our rambunctious pup come in and they greet him by name. He has also been boarded there several times and all experiences have been great.Read Less

Even though I live deep in the southwest, I make the long trek across town to visit Stiern for my pets and I truly couldn't be happier with their service. Over the years, I've had absolutely atrocious experiences at various vets in town (namely: Banfield in the Petsmart on Ming? Completely misdiagnosed my great dane, then killed him by giving him a medication that I later found out is supposed to be taken for no more than 3 days. . . for 14 days!), but I will always use Stiern.Just to give you some background about how great these folks are:I got my dog from the pound, but she handed been fixed yet, so they wanted to hold her a few weeks so they could send her to their place to be spayed. Apparently, they were "several weeks behind." Aye. Fine. One week later, the day before Christmas, I received a phone call, "Yeah, she's coughing. She probably has parvo. We don't treat dogs here, so either you can come pick her up and take her to the vet yourself or we're going to put her to sleep."As an animal lover, I was horrified--- but since I had already bonded with her, I gave them my credit card over the phone and sent a friend to get her before I got off work. With the holiday, I couldn't take her into the vet for 3 days, but during that three days, she didn't cough even once. When I took her into Stiern and explained the situation, the vet checked her over and said, "This is the healthiest dog I've ever seen. I'll give you some antibiotics just in case, but she's perfectly fine. I can't believe they were going to put her down!" All well and good, yes?When I got back up front to check out, they told me I wasn't being charged, since nothing was wrong with the dog. Even though they gave me a bottle of antiobiotics. How nice is that?Every other time I've come in, they've been kind, prompt, and genuinely helpful. Prices are beyond reasonable. Check them out- they're worth the drive! Read Less
