"DMV" Claxton apparently has no idea to check for basic things like ear infections, apparently his time goes towards clothes rather than fulfilling the promise of their outrageously priced services. Be prepared to give up your rent if you want a healthy pet while using this place. Check that, a pet can't be healthy when being checked by a place that treats nonexistent issues while trying to guilt trip you into overpriced products that don't even work. Read Less

Been taking my pets here since 2001. I love Dr. Ackerman. She is the sweetest and cutest person ever!!! She truly loves what she does and it shows. The front office staff is also very nice. After moving to the area I decided to pick this place as my new vet based on the positive reviews but will not be returning after my negative experience. I needed to bring my dog in to get his glands expressed (I usually do every 6 months) and they had a vet tech express them who said they were very full. About every day for the next week I noticed he was still scooting. I called them and they recommended I schedule an appointment with the vet to get the glands checked. The vet I met with asked me maybe one question and just took his heart rate and said "He probably has worms, I'm going to take him back and treat him." I was surprised he didn't even check the glands himself and assumed he had worms. There was also no discussion of costs or else had I known how pricey it was I would've just said no and purchased a $10 deworming kit at the store. When the vet tech brought my dog back, she said she did another expression and one of the sacs was very full. Nearly $200 later I paid for unnecessary deworming treatment and testing when it sounds like they didn't completely remove the fluid a week prior to that. When I received a call a few days later of the negative test result for worms, I expressed my concern for the unnecessary treatment and there was a total lack of empathy. No follow up calls or anything. I understand they run a business but when $$ is obviously more important than what makes sense for my dog I will absolutely not be returning to get taken advantage of like that again. Read Less

Dog came in with a clear foxtail wound on the back left paw. Vet instantly assumed the dog had an ACL tear and said they had to do an XRay with sedation before any diagnosis could be made. When pushed for a treatment plan, vet prescribed anti inflammatory and  pain medication and said that due to the holiday they wouldn't do anything orthopedic until the holiday had passed - "no orthopedic is gonna come out now". Upon further insistence agreed to wrap the foot.Charged for an exam and 2 prescriptions - 250$.Dog obviously got worse, infection in the foot, went to a different vet. The Vets are fantastic and caring and the location is very convenient. My cats have seen Drs. Burns and Ackerman and I've felt like they were getting excellent care. However, Belmont Pet Hospital is easily one of the most expensive pet hospitals around and they don't offer or accept any pet care plans. I thought maybe the prices just seemed high, but I pulled up records from my previous vet in the Marina district in SF and confirmed that Belmont Pet Hospital prices were up to 50% higher. I was quoted $1000 for dental cleaning and hundreds of dollars more if tooth extractions are needed. In SF, it cost $829 for a cleaning and X-ray and an extraction. If you're in a position where money is no object when it comes to your pet, this is the place for you and I mean that sincerely. It's a good pet hospital. However, I've realized that the prices have resulted in my being afraid to seek care unless absolutely needed. I need a quality, caring vet where I can put my pets' health back as the #1 concern, where it should be. Unfortunately, I may need to look elsewhere to find that. Read Less

I highly recommend Belmont Pet Hospital. We left San Carlos Pet Hospital because I felt they did unnecessary testing on our dog for a common diagnosis, and I have never been happier with the choice to go to Belmont. Every vet we have seen has been professional, can explain things to me in terms I can understand, they are reasonable with their fees, and are very trustworthy.
