I have been taking my Chihuahua here for years and was always very happy with their service and felt that they treated her well even though it always seems to cost me at least $200 with each check in.... until I was preparing for a new puppy and was reading a ton of dog stuff online and realized that my dog has never been on heartworm medication and she is six years old. This is a prescription medication that the doctor should’ve talk to me about and offered. looking back at a bunch of my appointments basically everything has been very driven by me asking questions and telling them my concerns and very little has actually been driven by the doctor making recommendations for my dog. this is a huge lap in medical care that could’ve been extremely detrimental for my dog and possibly killed her. ***UPDATE*** After bringing this to the doctors attention they were very apologetic and we were offered a free heart worm test, she tested negative! The doctor we had been seeing is no longer with the practice. Read Less

I have frequented Campus Veterinary Clinic for a little over four years now. I have only positive things to say about them. The reception staff are attentive, warm, and efficient. The nurses are kind and do everything they can to make your beloved pet comfortable. The doctors are knowledgeable, comprehensive with their examination, and always communicate well with you. They avoid over prescribing medication as well. My cat once had surgery here and she was very well taken care of, and they proactively followed up on her recovery. A+ Read Less

Went bc my dog appears to have a tooth infection with swelling around one tooth causing a growth to cover part of the tooth. Doc looked for about 3 min but could not tell me what was the problem exactly. Just a few suggestions of what it could be. She left to draw up an estimate and told me the growth needs to be cut out and that there was no medicine that would remedy the swelling. I asked the vet tech assistant if it was an infection but she said no. Ended up paying $65 for the visit and left the office feeling just as confused as I was before I came here. The doc was nice but just wish she would’ve took a little more time to explain a little more thoroughly Read Less

I called ahead and made an appointment for later that same day. The receptionist, Rosa, was awesome and super sweet! As a first time client we showed up a little early to fill out some paperwork and were seen promptly. Dr. Reid is insanely knowledgeable and has a clear love for animals. Our little guy loved her! We were concerned about our dog having severe stomach issues, but Dr. Reid quickly put us at ease. We were given an estimate for the cost of services and were able to fit the meds he needed into our budget. As first time clients we were given a folder with additional information as well as options for insurance and emergency services in the area. It feels great to know that we've found a great vet in the area! Read Less

My male cat had crystals in his urine and was peeing blood. The most time and cost effective solution is to give a round of antibiotics. My cats  had this once before, and that's what they did. But the after spending money for an office visit they tell me... oh we don't want to give antibiotics because they might get resistant. WTF??  It's a cat.  Who cares if it gets resistant to antibiotics, though I seriously doubt a cat getting antibiotics 2-3 times in its life time is enough to worry about.   So I paid 100 bucks, stressed my cat out with a useless visit,  and got no service other than to be told to watch the cat and bring it back ( paying us for another office visit) if your cat gets worse.   I know it's a big fad right now to limit antibiotic use, but this was just stupid. This used to be a great vet. The staff would be so kind and loving to both my pup and me. But after the change in owner, I took Bella in because she was walking strangely and yelping every time my boyfriend or I had picked her up. It was heartbreaking to see her in so much pain and I was terrified that she had hurt her back (dachshunds get back problems that can lead to them being euthanized).I immediately called Campus to make a same day appt. It was several hours away, which is understandable. When we arrived, we sat for half an hour past our appt. Again, that can be understandable. We all get behind sometimes. As the tech did the basics with Bella, she told us that Bella was underweight, but her demeanor and tone made it sound like we were neglectful. It threw us completely, the staff always praised us for Bella's good health and were never hostile. The tech came back with Dr. Parsley where the hostility continued about her weight. It felt like we had to be on the defense that we were good parents. Before, the vets would be so kind and sweet to Bella. She is terrified at the vets and they'll let her snuggle up to me on the table as they took her temp, shots, ect. This time was a traumatizing experience for us both. Parsley was cold and it felt like we were on a conveyer belt, trying to be rushed out. They told us they would give her a shot to help the tension in her back. Instead of doing it in the room, they took Bella out and for 10 mins we hear a dog screaming. They bring her back terrified and I noticed one of her nails was bleeding."She is all set on the shot and we clipped her nails as well, which will be an additional charge. I hope that's alright?" Parsley said matter-o-factly. She didn't even raise her eyes from her clipboard. My bf and I were stunned. No it was not alright. You could have asked us. We clip her nails at home! After pushing us out the door and trying to up the bill, it leaves me and my bf considering a different vet that will give us the care and time of day. I miss the old vets that were here. Read Less

Let me just say, I have very high standards when it comes to a vet or health provider for animals. She is kind and sweet to my dog, Conway, but also commands the attention of the human patients and explains the medical terms to me. He receptionists have always been super friendly and quick to answer, I have never had an issue making a last minute appointment.Maybe it's all vets, but I just don't get the part where it costs close to 100 bucks even if they only spend 5 minutes with your dog to tell you that nothing is wrong. Vets here are really nice even though my dog is intolerable when it comes to being "handled." I have yet to take my dog to see Dr. Pierson at his new location. My dog has been a patient of Dr. Pierson's since the day I got her about 4 yrs ago. Besides his professionalism, Dr. Pierson shows my dog the attention you would want from your own Dr. Dr. Pierson has always recommended ONLY the needed treatments and not added services for profit. He sees us immediately and before buying a business, was capable of seeing her last min, for maybe just a few minutes, if needed, even if just to ease my concerns regarding health issues she was experiencing. Please remember when reading these reviews that as our pets age (and us too), they deserve specialized attention from their medical-care providers to ensure a proper diagnosis and Dr. Pierson may be one of the last vets that believes in QUALITY over QUANTITY. There is a difference. So, if you are running late, it interferes into his time with another patient who was on time. Imagine if you were the person waiting that was on time!!!!I am grateful that there are educated, empathetic and professional veterinarians like Dr. Pierson around to treat my canine family member. He has saved our dogs more than once and I wouldn't trust anyone else with them. Thanks Dr. Pierson!!!!! Read Less

I had a fantastic visit today with this clinic! I called in yesterday because my Border Collie presented an emergency case of what looks like salmon poisoning, which is incredibly rare in this area. I called in to ask if any of the vets had experience with it, and was scheduled with Dr. Reid.  I was really glad to hear this after reading all of the fantastic reviews about her! Dr. Reid absolutely lived up to all of the great hype and was not only lovely, personable, genuinely caring about my pup, but she also understood that finances are tight and definitely worked with me. I didn't feel like anything that she charged was unnecessary or not completely thought through. They sent me home with fluids that I can administer for my pup on my own. I have nothing but great things to say about everyone from the receptionist to the vet techs! It was a really busy day, but everyone was still very friendly and I could tell that they were giving my pup genuinely good care. Thank you! Read Less

We've been taking our pets to Campus Veterinary Clinic for 30 years and through it all - ownership changes, veterinary staff changes, and office staff changes - the clinic has been consistent in its warmth, caring, and true love for the animals. They saved the life of our cat after she was viciously attacked by a dog, they compassionately ushered another elderly and ailing cat from this life, they kept our beloved dog going as long as possible after a brain tumor diagnosis, and, in between, they've treated other full- and part-time canine residents of our home with efficiency and kindness, holding my hand when necessary and providing telephone support when appropriate. I think it says something when the dogs they've treated try to detour to the clinic door when we're walking by. I recommend them without reservation. Read Less

I am with Alison H. I have been taking my dog here for a few years (because its 3 blocks from my house) with mixed feelings as well. Now I see them for what they are - a business that cares more about making money then they care about pets.A few months ago I received a notice that my dog's "annual check-up" was due. Check up? She never had that before. She is totally fine and I didn't have $65 to shell out, so I ignored it. They kept sending me emails, texts, letters... ridiculous! Feb 1 I ordered my dog's usual prescription dog food which the vet has to o.k. Only to find out today he refused to refill it because we didn't come in for that expensive check-up. So, they are punishing my dog and denying her what she needs because they couldn't squeeze $65 out of me. Good riddance! I am hearing of other places that only charge $45 and don't demand a "check-up" and I'll take my business else where. Read Less

I wish I had looked at the other 'one-star' reviews before choosing this clinic. I've been taking my dog here for the past few years with mixed feelings. Vets seem competent and pleasant enough (luckily I never got Dr. Yen) but the other issues of gouging and rude staff are real. Finally this time was enough to say bye bye.My last visit I was pressured into an 'optional' immunization. Something (couldn't even tell you the name) that I felt wasn't a risk for my dog - being mostly indoors, or at the beach in Albany; not in puddles with possum urine in Berkeley. But they were insistent (read shaming) that I was putting other dogs in danger by not getting this shot. When I asked how much it costs Dr. Parsley said $25 - plain and simple. I figured for that I would oblige. Next, the injection was jammed into my dog who let out a blood curdling yelp while I was chastised by the tech for trying to comfort him. After paying the bill I was told I needed to make another appointment to bring my dog back the next week. Why? Oh the booster 'follow up shot' - one that was never mentioned. On the return visit the first thing the front desk person wanted was my credit card to charge $25. When I told her I had already paid it, she insisted that I hadn't. It turns out I had paid the $25 but now they were going to charge me $25 more for the 'second shot.' When I told her I was quoted $25 total and no mention of two shots she insisted that would have never happened and that I was wrong and that they make it a standard procedure to bring up the bill on a computer screen in the exam room. I realize now why they do that - to cover themselves (I'm sure I wasn't the first to have been told one thing while extra cost were slipped in).I asked to talk to the vet, who I hoped would have recalled the conversation (I could have prompted her on practically every word, having remembered it that clearly) but she wasn't there. I know it seems like a petty amt and it is. It's just sad that the front desk person (and other vet) couldn't even fathom the idea that I could have been given inaccurate information and instead treated me like a liar -- trying get out of paying $25?! The whole thing was so insulting. When I suggested that they do the right thing and not charge the additional amount given the miscommunication they basically said forget it, hollered back to get my dog from the exam room - sans injection and that was it. I really don't know who's in charge there but I do hope they read ALL their reviews and care enough to invest in customer service training and/or let go of staff that are bringing this place down. We have been taking our cats to Campus Vet since 2005. The doctors and staff have been awesome, especially Dr. Reid, Dr. Yen, Kim, S.J., and Lisa -- these are people who have really gone above and beyond over the years. Recently we have seen Dr. Parsley too and she has also been excellent. It would take a long time to describe all that they have done for us -- everything from doing an enema on my oldest cat when she got constipated after our two-day road trip when we moved to Berkeley, to a surgery several years later when she developed a tumor, to EXTREMELY compassionate end-of-life care for her years after that when she finally went into kidney failure aged nineteen; plus routine stuff for our other two cats, one of whom was a rescue and is extremely aggressive and difficult to handle. Their fees are in line with other vets in the area, and I feel very confident that we have gotten excellent care from them over the years. I have recommended them to some of our close friends when they got a cat for the first time, and they also thought the care was very good. The ONLY down side is that they don't have much parking (just three-ish spots in front), but it's downtown Berkeley, so that's only to be expected. Usually you can use their lot because there are only a few appointments around the same time, but when it's full there is typically two-hour free street parking around the corner. Read Less

She listened well and didnt try to rush me out of the room. She gave me estimates for the dental procedures my pooch's badly needed and didnt pressure me to schedule right away. My second visit was with Dr. Yen. He clearly has a great amount of knowledge and his quiet demeanor worked wonders on my usually terrified dog. He figured out one of my dogs has a pancreatic issue and we have been successfully treating it ever since..yea! The manager (a blond) she should not be around animals, she is only after your $$$. Re: $$$, Dr. Yen wanted ~$500 for one procedure, which costed me only $210 somewhere else. Conclusion: they are banking on animals, they are simply a fake business, maybe criminals! Read Less

I have been going to Campus Vet for well over 10 years and, yes I liked Dr. Berger and was shocked when he said he was going to retire, but we all get to do that (someday). I just read an awful review by someone that made me mad and about the new owner Dr. Yen. He is very good with my animals and is very honest with me, he only recommends what is best for my pets. Sometimes I misunderstand him, but I have no problem asking him to repeat what he said. My pets are my life and my love, I trust the entire crew at Campus Veterinary Clinic. One day I made an appointment for my dog and I met the new associate doctor, Dr. Reid. She is very nice and is very caring with my pets needs, glad she is there. I liked Dr. Bela and get to see her once in a while. The hospital is very clean and the staff is so nice to visit, they really care when we walk in the door for our visit. Keep up the good work! Only once have I ever been to a vet who cared as little about animals as Dr. Yen, and that was years ago at a dispreputable nationwide chain where I should have expected it. He doesn't bother to even greet the animals or talk soothingly to them and in spite of the valiant attempt by one tech the whole experience felt surprisingly cold and inhuman. I've long had a wonderful vet who, along with his whole staff, absolutely adores animals but last year moved to Berkeley and tried Campus Vet Clinic. I was shocked to find Dr. Yen to be so utterly unsympathetic and cold to my dog. He didn't even bother greeting him or talk soothingly as he did the exam, and while my dog had always been thrilled at the love he got at the other vet (regardless of what they did, even clipping his nails!) he was VERY uncomfortable in Dr. Yen's hands. He is entirely used to strangers petting him and paying attention to him because he is a strikingly odd but friendly looking dog that seems to draw the attention of just about everyone who passes so this says a lot! I brought him to Campus Vet late last year and only thought to write this when searching for a different vet to try. I won't say Dr. Yen is medically incompetent, but when it comes to animal care a passion for their patients' comfort and wellbeing is absolutely essential. A complete lack of empathy and, to be honest, basic human manners as well is unacceptable. Heed what others said about running up the bill. Would you let your human infant be given dental x-rays when you'd brought them in for vaccinations? I could buy a NICE new car with the amount I've spent on vet care in last few years and didn't flinch one moment, but that was all vital. It's offensive to have useless tests pushed. There are great vets in Berkeley, ask around. I feel sorry for the one vet tech I encountered who really did love animals - hope they've found a better place to work because we need compassionate techs and she'll burn out otherwise. Read Less

I loved Dr. Berger and continued to go after he left-- What a mistake! Dr. Yen has little connection with animals and is always trying to upsell products. Just because they bought a new dental x-ray machine does not mean every patient needs x-rays to help them pay for it! Come on, why would I get a full dental on a 6 month old kitten??? The staff used to be the one benefit of going there, but lately they seem to get an entirely new set of techs monthly. They are very disorganized, losing the samples they took from my animals before the labs were run. Not only did they make me bring my dog back in to take new samples, but they wanted to charge me for another office visit!! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!!! Read Less

I went to Campus Vet twice in late 2006 for my 2-month old kitten. I picked them based on online reviews. The experience was slighlty unpleasant for two reasons. First, no one there seemed to like pets - not the doctors, not the nurses, not the receptionists. No one spoke to or about my *adorable* kitten during my visit there. It was very business-like and a but depressing. Second, they seemed to overcharge/oversell services: requiring me to come in more than once for something and get stuck with an additional exam charge I didn't ask for, telling me to bring in a sample and not charging me until a month later, etc. I just went to Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital and it was a much more pleasant and trustworthy experience. I have a colleague who felt the same way about Campus Vet and switched to another vet, as well. Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

I have yet to take my dog to see Dr.

I am super happy with Dr. Reid and team and know my cat is in good hands with them. Dr. Reid is very knowledgeable and works well with my senior kitty who is also generally very afraid of people. She identified her asthma and food allergy, allowing me to make simple changes that help my cat be happier and healthier. The team is also very conscious of expenses. When the price of my cat's medicine went up dramatically, they called me ahead of time to let me know so that I would have time to explore other places I might be able to get it cheaper (like Costco) instead of buying it directly from them. It is always a pleasure visiting Campus Veterinary! Read Less

Read Less

I love this place! Everyone was very warm and welcoming to my very very very shy dog and my outgoing friendly one as well . The receptionist I spoke with on the phone was very sweet and offered me several appointment times when I gave her the date I wanted to come in. She waited patiently while I fumbled with my calendar and had to put her on hold. I saw Dr. Reid for my first visit and she was great with my dogs. The cost of this clinic is equal to other area clinics and I truly believe I have gotten more than my money's worth here. If you are searching for super duper low cost clinics you will find that their service and care for you animal is as low as their price...experienced price shopper speaking here.

Read Less
