Took our dog here in May 2017 on an emergency recommendation from our regular vet after our dog consumed a handful of grapes, and was showing signs of a potentially serious reaction. From this 28-hour experience, which cost a minor fortune but ended happily, let me summarize my takeaways:1. This place is staffed with very qualified, friendly, and caring staff. They took very good care of our dog, and sent him home in far better shape than when they took him on.2. The wait can be extraordinarily long, but it's the equivalent of an ER waiting room, so disregard negative reviews based on wait time. It's an Emergency Room! The staff is triaging incoming patients based on real-time assessments of pain, risk and other factors. Sure, I waited there 3-4 hours while my dog consistently defecated on the floor in obvious discomfort. But, I also saw a dog having a seizure get brought in after me and, naturally, get seen first. And, that makes complete sense. If you waited longer than you liked, that's the nature of going to an ER. There are no reasons that they'd prioritize by anything other than their highly educated assessment.3. It's EXPENSIVE. I was mostly ill-prepared with the full cost ramifications of going here, until I was given a quote which made my eyes bulge from their sockets. It was 2-3x what I guesstimated as my worst case scenario. Yet, while it cost us a small fortune, I consider us lucky. Our final cost was lower than both the low & high estimates they provided, so it could've been far worse. Yes, we could've saved quite a bit of money by waiting another day to go to our regular vet, or if we had the foresight to obtain pet insurance. But, that's the nature of visiting a 24-hour emergency facility w/o insurance.4. It's an INCREDIBLE business. As a business guy, I was in absolute awe of the killing that this business must make. They were a well-oiled machine - efficiently processing patients, delivering rapid-fire expert diagnoses, and then sending in a well-trained individual to provide a remarkably quick rundown of costs leaving you with very little time to even process. You must act quickly (again, it's an ER), and the costs are hefty. While trying to regain my senses after seeing the estimate, I asked what services, tests or meds were "optional" - and the answer back is that it's almost all "highly advised." So, what is there to do? Dog is suffering and taking away one test is kind of like skimping on an appetizer when you're already committed to a fancy meal. At the end of the day, it's a fantastic business with what with must be incredibly high margins. So, do I recommend PETS Referral Center? Yes, I do. Do I hope I ever go there again? No, I do not. Would I invest in this business if given an opportunity? You betcha. Read Less
