They fixed my dog, and I'm very grateful to their staff! Not cheap, but vet care is never cheap in the US.

Brought my dog in for an emergency while on vacation right before they closed and they took care of us immediately and diagnosed our dog without issue. They're the absolute best!

Two stars for the friendliness of the initial phone call to reserve dates for boarding. One star for the second call which went thus, "Hello, I faxed my dog's vaccination certificate as requested four days ago. Nancy said I'd get a follow up call to confirm I sent all needed forms. I never heard back." Nikki (sp?) replied, "I see the reservation but it doesn't show we received the fax. I will check." She returns and says, "No, we did not get it. Can you send it again?" "I suppose I can, but I paid per page at Staples to send it the first time." I got the fax number from her just to make sure it had been correct. Then I found the fax receipt showing they received it. The number had been correct. I called back to tell her exactly when it had been sent. No kidding, this is the comment back, "Can you call back tomorrow and see if anyone knows where it is?" I'm afraid to leave my dog there - she only weighs 3.5 lbs! Will they be able to find her when I am suppose to pick her up? I will follow this review up after my trip. Before I leave her, I am going to ask to see where she will be staying. Things like this frustrate me no end. Read Less

Traumatized by the bill - was quoted one price when I brought in a very sick dog for pancreatitis, and when we went to pick her up, was given a bill for almost $500 over the quoted price with the explanation, "We just changed our billing practices." He did recover though and am eternally grateful for that. Today I called to make an appointment for my other little dog who was just bitten most likely by a coyote (two little puncture wounds), receptionist said she could not even estimated what it would cost until the dog was seen by their vet. She said the exam would be $60, the rabies shot about $20 but had no idea about the antibiotics. So I called Bear City Vet, was given a reasonable estimate ($40 for the exam, $60 for the antibiotics and reduced price for the rabies) and made an appointment there feeling much better about their pricing. REALLY BAD Experience! Well, TWO bad ones. As we were walking in one early evening carrying our dog that broke her leg, a lady (that looked like she was so sad) was walking out with a very sweet German Shepard, whimpering, with it's back leg dangling bad, obviously broken too. What a BIG Mistake we made going to VCA Big Bear! Noelle Thomas (vet, avoid like the plague!) wrapped our dog's leg up tight and told us that she would see us in two weeks. We were charged almost SIXTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS! Four days later our dog was eating her foot, the leg was dead and gangrene had set in! We then took her to another vet down the hill, and at the cost of $3,500.00 had to have her whole leg amputated! We now have a beautiful 2 year old dog with three legs because of their negligence and GREED! She should have sent us to real Orthopedic Surgeon to have the leg pinned and fixed properly! The place was dead and we were money walking through that door! Tried to get my $$$$$$ back by taking Lily to them to now show them her three legs (Noelle ran to the back, what? embarrassed?) and the manager and another "know it all" vet, (Hough pronounced HO (male) fought me and told me that he "DIDN'T EVEN CARE" that my dog had to have her leg amputated because of lack of proper care there. It was an awful, AWFUL experience at that VCA run (for major profit!) place. Oh? And the lady that was walking out with her dog whimpering behind her, with the broken leg? Big Bear VCA Hospital wouldn't treat the dog because the lady did not have EIGHTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS to pay UP-FRONT! (Noelle the vet told us. "Tooo bad," she said.) So they let that lady walk out the door with that sweet Shepard and it's broken leg. Where is your compassion VCA Lakeside Animal Hospital??? Huh??? Looking back, I could have taken both her and our dogs to a vet down the hill and paid for both, been out the same money and have two healthy dogs all better now. I often think of that lady and what she did with her dog... If you can, from my heart to my mouth to your ears, please STAY AWAY from that place. They act sooo nice and caring until they do something wrong that you question, then it's like they don't even want to know you. Especially when it comes to money. They cared more about losing THAT than they did for the well being of my wonderful baby black Labrador. Going there was a very bad experience for us. Read Less
