I just became a new mama to an adorable fuzz ball named Cody. And like any first time parent, I'm completely clueless, freaking out and worrying I'm going to screw him up when I'm not baby talking his cutesy wutesy little facey wacey. Unlike most first time parents, I'm very aware of my ignorance.Let's back up. Over the course of my childhood and teenage years, my family has had several dogs. But there's nothing like adopting a pet when your brain has fully developed (more or less - jury is still out on that one) and you're knowingly taking on the responsibility of raising an adorable fluff ball and turning him into a well-behaved miniature bear (part Newfoundland? Check.). I'm overwhelmed by everything I have to do and learn.Well, almost everything.Luckily for me, it was a no brainer when it came to picking Cody's vet. We first went to Dr. Sevier about fourteen year's ago on a friend's recommendation. Ah, pre-Yelp days. Our first dog had developed cancer and our vet at the time wanted to run him through a ton of painful and expensive treatments. Dr. Sevier was frank with us - the treatments wouldn't prolong his life by very much (if they even worked) and they would be pain-filled days. We were welcome to go ahead with them of course, but he leveled with us on the pros and cons. We liked his frank and honest approach - no money milking mill here! Dr. Sevier was able to maximize our time with our beloved Pepper via certain shots and pain medications before we had to say goodbye to him several months later. Our next dog went to Town and Country from the get go.So when I penned "Call vet" in my planner, it was one less thing for me to worry about. Let's review the awesomeness:-I knew I could ask Dr. Sevier all of my inane questions (which I did) and he would answer them (which he did). -He has an awesome puppy plan set up which covers all the shots and deworming a puppy needs before he can start socializing with other dogs. Two less things to worry about! -The staff is friendly, Cody was completely calm with them AND they think my baby is adorable (which he is - I'm pretty sure one of his ancestors invented puppy eyes). -Visits are efficient, on schedule and priced fairly. How often does that happen at a doctor's office???-The office is located right next to the Chula Vista golf course walking path (yeah, it's in Bonita, which doesn't really make sense). If you want your fully vaccinated puppy/dog to have good associations with the vet's office, take him for a pre or post vet visit romp around the park. And bring poop bags - don't be THAT owner. If you recently became a pet parent or you think your baby is ready for a second medical opinion, I highly recommend Dr. Sevier. Doctors and automechanics are two areas of life you don't want to get screwed up (well, that and your eyebrows - they're on your face for everyone to snicker at) and I'm so thankful I can rest easy knowing my Cody is in good hands.
