Outstanding staff and doctor. I took my dog in for a second opinion. Dr Allison was so caring and explained everything carefully. My dog was retested and thankfully all is good. The staff was also very caring and nice. I plan on changing veterinarian and having Brea Veterinary hospital take care of my three dogs going forward. Highly recommend; you will not be disappointed. I brought in my 18 year old Yorkie for a check up and Dr. Allison went the extra mile to examine her and ran a few tests. She suggested changing her diet and now my Yorkie is doing great. She eats better than ever. I could not ask for a better Veterinary hospital. Read Less

I've been coming to the Brea Veterinary Hospital since 2002. I can't say enough about the Doctors and staff here. They are so detailed and they love your pets as if they were their own. The doctors even call and check up on your pets and how they are feeling. But what's more powerful is the feeling you get in the waiting room.... Dogs feed on energy. I've been to many different Vets before finding this place and I rarely see a dog that is not happy in the waiting room here. They are even excited to go to their appointments! However, in other Veterinary offices it is a nervous dog environment. If animals could post Yelp reviews, they would have 5 stars from them! Read Less

This place is way toooo expensive. My dog has allergies that causes his paws to swell once in a while. They had me do three exams and one shot. The shot only lasted one day and cost more than $100. Also the vet gave me prescription to get pills from the local pharmacy. The medication also cost more than $150, the pharmacist recommended me to just get half of them since it was expensive. Another bad thing was that I did not know heart worms can be seen through blood test or x-rays only. Vet just listened to my dog's heartbeat with stethoscope and said he had heart worms, giving me another costly medication. Later when I visited other vet, I learned heart worms can't be found through listening to the heartbeat. Also they kept pushing me to get medicated dog food that I did not want. I didn't buy the food but one allergy visit cost more than $500. Read Less

I came here after buying my new pug puppy. We bought her from someone who had puppies for sale on Craigslist, and it was kind of a shady deal if you ask me. That night we took her home and she had diarrhea and was vomiting all night long. She was sooooooo sick. My husband and I were terrified that she had parvo, we didn't sleep a wink that night. The next day I took her straight to the wonderful team at Brea Vet Hospital. I didn't even have a carrier for her yet so I arrived with her so sick and lethargic in a shoe box. They took great care of her. Gave her subcutaneous fluids and ran all the tests on her to check for parvo and parasites. It turned out that she did have a parasite and they gave me antibiotics to give to her and some easily digestible food for her to eat until her tummy settled. She was like a new pup the very next day! I was so thankful to our wonderful team at BVH!! The girls at the front counter are so very kind and friendly. Dr. Forbes is amazing and put our mind at ease. They are not the cheapest in town...but your four legged family members get the BEST care there. Penelope and I thank you!! Read Less

I have been a customer of Brea Veterinary Hospital since it opened many years ago. Dr. Sparks was the original owner. And there have been several other Drs. Since. All were excellent vets and took good care of all my pets. Eventually Dr. Forbes came on board and the atmosphere changed. She was well qualified to do the job but she brought an additional gift of love. Each animal she sees is much more than a patient. My little chihuahua, Spike, had been her patient for 13 years. She called him Little Man. Recently I had to have him put to sleep. It was a process that took a few weeks to make. Dr. Forbes was there with me concerned and compassionate giving me loving advice. We both shed tears over our Little Man. When I went home the staff sent me a beautiful card full of personal messages that left me feeling so loved. Dr. M. As we call her is Dr. Forbes associate. She is equally as wonderful to pets and customers. She spent time researching what we should feed Spike when he first got cancer. She was a great help to him as well. I feel like the staff and Drs are a family and they include me in that family. My dogs are well taken care of there and I would recommend anyone to go there . Dogs small or large. Cats and birds, too. Every animal walks happily through the door and the staff lovingly takes care of them. Give them an opportunity to take care of your pet. Read Less

We are SO incredibly grateful that this is the veterinarian's office local to our new house. I have had pets for nearly 17 years, and we've made the rounds in that time. Some vets were great, some we will never ever visit again. So, upon moving, we were nervous that the new vet wouldn't be up to snuff for our "kids". Both Dr. Forbes & Dr. Massenzio are very knowledgeable, caring, attentive and understanding. I had an emergency with one of the cats while my husband was out of town (very scary), and there was no issue getting kitty in asap to get him fixed up. The entire office is helpful and kind. Since then we have brought each animal in to be an official patient there and will continue to do so. I get regular calls from the doctors and the staff to check up on my senior cat who is in treatment for his diabetes. These vets actually LISTEN to whats going on with your animal, and take as much time as you need to discuss what the options are. That is rare these days, I have found that a lot of vets want patients in and out asap.  We were very please to find that they carry high end food and prescriptions in house (makes life much easier), and they don't gouge you on the price!  We also utilize their vet tech staff for pet sitting when we travel (Cynthia is THE best, but all the vet techs are top notch there). Lastly, I will add that we are very particular about who cares for our animals. We're definitely "those people" who read the ingredients on pet food packaging to look for nasty bi products. So if we're this happy with Brea Vet Hospital I genuinely think you will be too. Read Less

I took my dog to this vet in an emergency situation after he suddenly collapsed. I had never been here before, but rushed my dog in anyways, not knowing what was wrong with him. The vet tech at the desk stopped what she was doing and immediately scooped my dog up and brought him to the back. They were asking me questions while I was crying and said they thought he got stung by a bee. Well, sure enough. They found a stinger in his paw that caused him to go into anaphyactic shock. If it weren't for Dr. Massenzio and the awesome techs here, I may not have had my little buddy sitting next to me right now as I type this. After this experience of them saving my dogs life, I made them my regular vet. Now as my other dog is aging and having problems such as seizures, (he's 15 or 16) I am so grateful to Dr. Massenzio and everyone else here. I honestly see them a few times a month and they are always so kind and accommodating. The Dr is very thorough and I love that she doesn't sugar coat anything with me. I understand that my dog is old, and she's not afraid to tell me like it is. She doesn't offer unnecessary treatments and she treats my animals (2 dogs and 1 cat) as if they are her own pets. She is seriously awesome. Thank you so much to everyone at Brea Vet for the amazing care you give to my pets. Read Less

Because they are a small place you can almost guarantee you can be seen the day you call. If you refer a friend, their first visit is free. Also, they're open on Sundays which is awesome. The thing I don't like about this vet clinic is that the doctors will tell you your dog will need tests for something that they don't really need a test for: ear infections, heart murmurs, dog food allergies, etc. and if you decline they try and guilt you or scare you into getting the test. For example:(1) The vet told me my bull terrier had an ear infection, I told her she was wrong, she told me if I didn't get the infection under control my dog could go deaf, so out of fear I did the test and payed the $50 guess what? It came back negative. The vet did not apologize.(2) A month later she then told me if I got her spayed before all her puppy teeth fell out she would need oral surgery to remove the remaining teeth and insisted I schedule an appointment for spay months in the future. I declined because she was months old already and I didn't want her to have a menstrual cycle before her spay. All my dog's puppy teeth fell out just fine and he adult teeth grew in just fine. (3) The vet told me my breed of dog is prone to heart murmurs and although she couldn't hear a heart murmur insisted I get an EKG done on her "to be safe", I told her no, I went to a different vet and the second opinion said no heart murmur was present. This vet said the exact same thing to a friend of mine and she ended up paying the hundreds of dollars for the EKG just to be told her dog was fine.(4) My dog farted during a vet exam, anyone who owns a dog knows they fart, and the vet insisted the farts were due to food allergies and wanted to do food allergy tests on my dog... for a fart. You just have to realize that they're a business like anywhere else, and they need to make money, and that your dog probably doesn't need that test. Read Less

10 years ago, i likely would have given this place a higher rating. I had been using this vet for almost 13 years. At first, the vibe was very honest, loving and nurturing... But over the last 5 or 6 years, I have felt less comfortable. The problem: they overcharge for most services and "up sell" everything. If you go in for a rash for example, they will tell you it's either a food allergy or fleas. They don't see a sign of fleas, so they need to do allergy and food allergy  testing which is terribly expensive! And they STILL recommend a long term flea treatment, even with no fleas on a strictly indoor animal.I will say they have been helpful in accommodating people with a restricted budget, by reducing a fee or giving donated meds, but that's only helpful if they don't insist on the extensive testing and other services. They also offer a patient referral credit if you refer friends, but who needs that if you don't feel your pet is being cared for properly? My biggest gripe... When they have to perform ANY service on your animal, they leave the room with your pet which leaves me with a very uncomfortable feeling. Why do you have to take our pet to your "back room" to give him a shot?  Our "new" vet performs routine services in the room in our presence. additionally, I noticed over the last few visits at Brea veterinary, that the exam rooms aren't cleaned very well. There has been other animals fur and saliva on the exam table and floors.I do not recommend using this veterinarian. Check yelp reviews of this, and other veterinarians before deciding. 3 1/2 stars.  Why? EXPENSIVE!Yes, the vets and staff are sweet, but why wouldn't you be when you're overcharging your patients?  I've been taking my dog here for a long time -- almost 7 years.  I took her in today for her rabies vaccine because I need to renew her license.  Very simple, right?  I waited an hour and my bill was $87.  It's like I'm paying for the formalities.  First, you wait in the reception area. Then, you wait in a separate waiting room.  The doctor comes in, does a "check up," then, sends the nurse in with an invoice of all the things your pet apparently "needs" (she presented me an invoice of check ups and labwork totaling $500!!).  Then, when you politely refuse and say that you only want what you came in for, and you still feel like the world's worst pet owner.  The actual time it took to vaccinate her was 2 minutes.  Save yourself the money and take your pet to a vaccination clinic instead of paying a frivolous $57 to have the vet make some "hmmm's" and "hummmmmm's". This vet recommended my dog have surgery under anesthesia to remove small bumps on her eyelid that were causing eye irritation. Since she'd had the bumps for quite some time and the irritation was new, I took her elsewhere for a second opinion. After my dog got a much more thorough and competent exam from the second vet, as it turned out all she needed was some eye drops with cortisone for allergies, thus saving her from unnecessary surgery. I won't go to Brea Vet Hospital again even though I live around the corner from them. Read Less

Clean enough facility. The wait is long even with an appointment. The Doctor and staff appear to care enough about the animals. Be wary of ruthless upselling and borderline unnecessary procedures. The doctor will suggest 5 different tests on very minor issues and the nurses will promote every preventive medication possible. It is blatant and distasteful. Otherwise it is an ok place for shots and routine check-ups. Read Less

Our new home for veterinary care is Yolinda animal hospital Read Less

I have lived in Brea for 6 years now, when we first moved here I took my Rat Terrier, Cappi to another Brea vet (VERY EXPENSIVE, and the office staff very abrupt & rude when I would call). I just decided to try this Brea Veterinary Hospital a couple of weeks ago, WOW what great office staff service, the vet Drs. there took the time with my (now senior) Cappi dog and were able to pin-point the problem easily, (without the drastic cost that the others charge). Also, twice since our visit I have had a couple of follow-up calls to see how my dog is doing. Oh, not to mention that the vet Dr. herself even called to talik with me.So Informative, and you can also go online to view the office visits that have been given. Very pesonal attention, friendly phone voice and exceptional office and tech staff!!Thank you Dr. Massenzzio and the entire staff. As long as we are in Brea we are here to stay:) Read Less

Read Less
