My husband and I want to compliment Brentwood Veterinary Hospital for helping us through an extremely difficult experience.    It was finally time to send our 16 year SMARTEST, BEST dog in the Universe to join his buddies in Pet Heaven.  As you can imagine this was a HEART-Wrenching event.  Dr Olson and the staff were so good with us and with Tug.  They just knew how special our pup was to us.  I was way beyond sad, barely able to control myself (okay, I could not control myself0.  One of the ladies in the office embraced and was so comforting to me.  I am extremely grateful to her because I simply could not regain my composure. Dr. Amy Olson was so patient and kind with us and with Tug (I am crying again). She let us take as long as we needed. These folks are so amazing I can't even explain. Well I can, I have been looking for a vet for a while now and I had one emergency with one of my pups they saw me right away. On this day I saw Dr Sharp she was so super sweet to my Pitt and very thorough. My pup didn't have a foxtail in her nose but a bee sting. Love her. Then two days later I had to bring another one of my pups. He was very ill, I first saw Dr Grange and then Dr Jacobsen, these two are also amazing they went to all lengths to figure out what was wrong with my boy Kenzo. In the end they found the problem and surgery was done. He is home resting now on the road to recovery. I really appreciated how upfront they have been with me and honest about possible out comes. I truly if this is the best office for any of your furry family. I don't want to leave out the reception staff they are also amazing. So glad we switched to Brentwood Veterinary Hospital!!! Very personable staff when I walked in for an appointment as a first time client. They had our records transferred over from our previous vet, which was nice. I didn't have to go get them myself. We saw Dr. Sarah, she was fantastic! Got right on Max's level. She immediately picked up on that he was a bit nervous and did everything to make him feel more comfortable as we tried to wrestle my 100lb boy to sit still so she could examine him. I called in late Friday in a panic my dogs seizure specialist in Dublin decided at 5pm on a Friday they were going to deny a medication refill that I requested Monday. I was told he needed blood work before they refilled this medication :/. Umm ok it's Friday at 5??? They were not willing to work with me at all nor could they tell me exactly what blood test was needed. So I called into Brentwood Vet (my dogs primary vet). Jenn answered and was great. She didn't have a fax from the specialist but asked me to call them back to resend or at least tell me what I needed. Brentwood vet couldn't fit me in Friday but Jenn asked me to call back Saturday morning to see if they had a cancellation. 8am on Saturday I called Jenn and she asked me to come in at 8:40... No problem!! Got there and hung out until they could fit us in. I can't thank them enough for fitting us in. I was happy to wait and get the blood work done and the prescription refilled. Less stressful than me figuring out his meds for the week and trying to fit it in to a hectic work week. We met with Dr. Grange who was an absolute sweetheart! We went over what had happened. I let her know even though my lab growls when people come near him at the vet he's harmless and he just needs to be taken out of the room so he's not near his mom lol. She was fine with this. She took him in the back. Did an examination and blood work then brought him back. I absolutely love the staff here!!! They saved the day for sure!!! Read Less

I came here hoping this place would have an interest in helping my injured cat, who I was very concerned for. I walked in and the first person seemed very welcoming and asking what kind of help I needed. I told her about my cat's injured wrist. She asked if I came there before and I said no. Then she said that there were no doctors in, that they all flew to some business meeting and won't be back for a while. That made little sense because the vet doors were open and staff behind their desks, if no doctors why are you open? Then she proceeded to get rude with me and literally told me: "why won't you take your cat and scooch over to the animal hospital around the corner, I'm sure they'll help you." All while waving me out the door. Wow, Brentwood, I'm new here and already feeling disappointed. If any doctors that work there feel the same as your staff, Shame on you! I brought my Mastiff here a couple times to a couple of different vets for his ongoing battle with allergies. They were no help what so ever. I tried to talking to Dr. Ruygt about his condition. Whenever I would try to talk to her about something she would snap back at me and either tell me I was wrong, or she would just completely ignore my concerns. I understand that I may not know everything about animals, but I'm also not an idiot and when I have a concern about my dog I would rather her just listen instead of her making me feel like I just completely don't know a damn thing about my dog. Save your money. Go elsewhere. I recommend trying out Dr. Raj in Brentwood. I have a couple friends who take their animals there and they have had better success. Read Less

Absolutely horrible. They butchered my dog who went in for a minor issue dealt with. Instead of shaving just his back to deal with the issue they shaved my entire Nordic dog. They shaved down to the skin. Gave him razor burn on his ass and genitals. Can't walk can't do his business without constant howling in pain. Well I have loved this place for years. Last year when I had to put my older golden Niner down Dr Jessica Ruygt and staff were so caring that I stayed at the office way after closing so my daughter and I could spend more time before she crossed over the rainbow bridge, the staff was excellent and they took good care of my old girl after she passed on. My mom accidentally gave our dog the wrong type of Benadryl yesterday. She gave our dog 20mgs of the nasal decongestant. My dogs 80 pounds. I'm not home. My mom gives her the wrong medication. Freaks out. Calls this place. They freak her out more. Tell her to bring the dog in immediately. She might have to stay for all day observation. My mom and sister take our dog in. Dr Olsen said my dog has high blood pressure. She might have to stay for all day observation. My sister told dr Olsen her blood pressure might be high because she's nervous. My sister rubbed the dogs belly and she calmed down. Her blood pressure dropped down. Dr Olsen still wanted to keep her for all day observation. My mom and sister decided to take her home instead. The dog never had a bad reaction to the medication. In the end they got my mom for $115.85 to take my dogs blood pressure and for a exam. $81.85 for a "urgent" exam and $34 to take her blood pressure. I called around to 3 other vets in the area and asked "I accidentally gave my 80 pound dog 20mgs of Benadryl nasal decongestant, should I bring her in"? Their response? "At that weight, with that small of a dose she should be fine, just watch her". What does that tell you about this vet? Read Less

Dr. Odom was the first vet I started seeing regularly. He was the first vet to recommend prozac for my cat with anxiety disorder. Within a week all of his symptoms stopped! Two years later, with a combination of medication and behavioral therapy, I was able to ween Jitter off his medication. I now have a happy and healthy cat! Dr. Odom doesn't work there anymore. I now see Dr. Olsen. She has always been so kind, and she is absolutely brilliant! She saved my cat. Tamiyo, when she had tumors blocking her intestines and helped my dog, Little Bear, go through his tail surgery. She's been there when I've lost pets too. I highly recommend her! We go out of our way to stay local because we don't want to move too far from our favorite vet! They are always so good to us. Our fur family thanks them! Read Less

Since we moved to the Oakley area we needed to find a great Vet for our Cocker Spaniel, Tallie. We gave BVH a shot and we couldn't be happier with out decision. We (and Tallie!) absolutely adore the Doctors @ BVH..especially Dr. Amy Olsen. She's so friendly, gentle and loving with Tallie and this brings Tallie's anxiety level down tremendously. Amy even sits on the floor when she examines Tallie, treat in hand...of course! The office staff are above and beyond what you'd expect. They always address both me & Tallie separately and we rarely have to wait more than a few minutes. Brought my first dog Jedi over there and the staff was helpful from the get go. Also they gave me really good tips on how to train and raise my Dobe.  Dr. Olsen made us feel right at home and really relaxed and Jedi loves her and he doesn't even feel like he is afraid to go there, he actually gets excited when we walk through the doors. They made appt for all his shots and got reminders for every appointment which is really helpful when you have a busy schedule. We have been patients of BVH for seven years and we've had wonderful service for the usual stuff- exams, immunizations, and little problems here and there. We have always seen Dr. Sharp and once in a while, a sprinkle of her associates as needed. Recently, our long-haired chihuahua was hit by a truck and needed emergency care. After calling them while driving her there, they were ready for my baby and gave her the BEST care! Dr. Sharp was able to save her little mangled paw and tail. She used laser therapy to speed healing and it looks great!A few weeks after that, our curious puppy found a needle and thread and swallowed it. Dr. Olsen was amazing and was able to retrieve it without surgery. I'm telling you, I love this place. The staff is welcoming and friendly, and the doctors are the BEST. I have lived in three states now and have never found a better, more friendly vet. Not only are the staff just amazing but the doctors really do care for your pets and what's best for them. I have been bringing pets here since I was a little kid. My two cats that I found in the desert of Arizona can be a bit scared when being in a new place and what not but for some reason when they're here they love the staff right away and let them pet them and do whatever it is that they need to do. They keep up with your vaccination records and send you emails on when they're due next and same for routine check ups. Read Less

I just moved to Brentwood and didn't really know what veterinary to go to, but I saw Brentwood Veterinary Hospital through Yelp. I saw that they have an average of 4 stars and I was assuming they provide great service. My assumption is correct! One morning I noticed my dog was having difficulty peeing and I saw blood. I immediately searched a vet through yelp and saw Brentwood Veterinary Hospital. I just drove there without even calling and when I got to the front office, Laura greeted me and asked if she can help. I told her that my dog was peeing blood, and then she asked if I have an appointment. I said, "No.I came immediately here after seeing blood in my dog's urine." She responded, "OK, I'll check with the doctors and make time for you to see one of them." I really appreciated what she did, she was very welcoming and understanding. I just waited for 15 minutes and then they brought me to a room to check my dog. Then, a nurse came in to the room to perform some preliminary checks. She was very nice and careful with my dog.Furthermore, I'm really happy with Dr. Hansen and Dr. Rygt. They saved my dog! They were very thorough with me and provided recommendations on what to do. I really did feel that they care about my dog. My dog had several stones blocking his urethra and according to Dr. Rygt they were not easy to push back to his bladder since they were already all the way down through the urethra. However, Dr. Rygt really did her best and at the end she was successful! Overall, I'm very happy with their service and I definitely would recommend Brentwood Veterinary Hospital.. I am very happy with the service and care we received at this hospital. My indoor/outdoor cat, Tango, came home with a limp so I began the search for a veterinary hospital who could take a look at him. I called a few places and did not care for the customer service or convenience of appointment times offered. I randomly called the Brentwood Veterinary Hospital and was greeted by Laura. I was instantly drawn to her professionalism and genuine concern for my baby,Tango. Ultimately, it was because of Laura that I decided to bring my cat here.On arrival Laura was just as pleasant in person as she was over the phone along with the other front office staff. I was scheduled to see Dr. Jessica Ruygt and I'm so glad she is our new doctor. She is a very well educated, compassionate and caring person. She discovered that my cat had a broken hip and he would need surgery to correct it. Dr Ruygt presented me with a few options and we discussed the positive and negatives of these different procedures. Together we decided on the best course of action for Tango. It was reassuring to have several options...I did not feel pressure to do anything.Also, once we decided on the procedure the office gave me a quote with no hidden fees. They give you a low and a high quote depending on how much anesthesia he may need while under or how many x-rays views they might need. So there are no surprises.The surgery went well under her care and so far the healing process has been very smooth. I'm happy to have found a great doctor to look after my fur babies. This is the first Vet clinic that we've been where the doctors and the staff are not confident at all when around my pet or other pets that I have seen them handle. They are very jumpy, afraid, and panicky.  Dogs tend to not trust people who are not confident around them - how much more if it's someone that's supposed to make them feel better. Every Vet that I went to before are very good around my pets - they were very affectionate and confident around them.The younger looking Caucasian Vet was shaking when he was examining my dog. You can tell that he was uncomfortable with what he is doing even if my dog was just standing there and not doing anything. Then all of a sudden my dog turned his head towards me and to my surprise HE QUICKLY JUMPED BACK AND HE LOOKED REALLY SCARED AND MISERABLE. I was confused for a second because I didn't even hear my dog growl or whimper. I was holding him the entire time! The Vet then apologized and said "I am sorry I am very jumpy." There's one appointment that I had at this clinic that when my dog barked at the other dog that tall, female, blonde doctor was taking to the back-  she panicked and started screaming "OWWOWWOW" then she yelled at me to get out of the clinic and finish my paperwork in my car. I don't know what the big deal was because the barking only occurred for 3 seconds and she went inside anyway and we were at the back where exit door. On one of the other time that we had an appointment - I unfortunately spent all nigh in the Emergency Room with my son and we ended up coming home at 6am.  We slept and didn't wake up in time for our 8:05 am appointment. But as soon as I woke up I called and told them what happened. I was hoping to not go anymore because I am already exhausted but they were kind enough to reschedule it sometime in the afternoon but when I was about to leave the plumber came very early to fix the leak that I had under my sink so I told the vet that we will either be late or we will just have to reschedule for the next day  but the lady said if my pet is still not eating then I should still come in EVEN IF WE ARE LATE. When we got there and while my pet was in the X-RAY room, I informed the older staff that according to the Vet that I spoke with over the phone that there should be no charges for that day because it is a follow up appointment but the older staff member told me that it may not be true because I rescheduled several times that day so a different doctor may have to see my dog and I will have to pay for it. I did not say anything and after  few minutes she came in and said "okay, I need to tell you this, next time, you need to call us in advance to reschedule because we get really busy here. We cannot always accommodate you." Although she did not say it directly, the reason she said that is because she must have figured out that I was right that I don't have to pay anything. She did not want to admit that she was wrong so she still said something to make it seem like I was wrong. But we called several times that day and I specifically told them that if they cannot accommodate us anymore - we can come back another time. They were the ones who told us that we should come in and then she said that to me?! One star only because of the very nice young lady with a short black hair that works in the front office. I am not sure if she is Filipino, Asian, or Hispanic. And also for the slender Hispanic Vet technician (with an accent) that helped us. They are the only ones that always have a smile in their faces and they both vey nice and they treated us with patience, respect, and with great customer service.  We won't be going back again. Sorry. We are now with another Vet clinic and they have a  wonderful! confident Staff and doctors! Everyone are calm and very affectionate to our dog. Read Less

DON'T EVER GO HERE. I took my puppy here and they diagnosed her with severe Parvo. I took her home after paying over 100.00 for medicine. I never gave her any medicine and she proceeded to go home take a long run and a swim. She was fine. I called them and politely complained and asked for a refund on the unused and unneeded meds. They refused and gave me a line of bologna. Lying to me over and over. Promising to call me back and didn't. I paid over $222.00 for nothing. I only asked for a partial refund. There are not enough words to describe how amazing Brentwood vet truly is.... We have 5 English Bulldogs and have had almost all of them visit this office more then a few times.... Dr. Hansen is such a soft spoken caring man. One of our Bulldogs has an unusual issue with his paws... Dr. Hansen has definitely tried every measure to help our boy and we now have his paw issue under control.  Dr . Hansen has been calling and checking on our boy weekly to make sure he is doing well on his new meds. Not many vets out there would take time out of their busy schedules to make a weekly call !!  He truly cares. The vet techs and the office staff all are wonderful to our pups and to us as well !! A few days ago on (last Monday, 4/27/2015); my husband and I had to make a decision that no one ever wants to face and that was to put our beloved kitty "Bear" to sleep due to him being so sick.  I rescued my furbaby "Bear" right after graduating college, as he was abandoned in the neighborhood that I used to live in by his original owners when they moved away.  He was left out in the cold by his original owners whom had also declawed the poor boy with nobody to love him, nobody to protect him and nobody to care for him.  That's when I knew this special boy was meant to appear in my life.  As they say, "Animals come into our lives for a reason."  I was destined to help this boy and provide him with the best life possible.  He was approximately 7years old then.  Bear lived the best life for the last 11+ years that I had with him; full of unconditional love.  He was 18years old when we sent our boy over the Rainbow Bridge but he was declining very quickly and we felt in our hearts as much as it hurt to do it that the right thing for him was to put him at peace.  Bear's legacy will live on forever.  R.I.P. my sweet boy.Now there is a very special individual in my life that I would like to thank and that is my vet (Dr. Hansen) from Brentwood Veterinary Hospital. He is the most amazing, most compassionate individual I've ever known.  He is a mentor and has guided me and has helped me in so many ways.  Most of all in making some of the biggest decisions of my life. One being on what I should do with my beloved Bear.  He is honest, his heart is so real and so full of love that I've never in my life known a vet such as him.  My husband and I couldn't have asked for a better rest for our Boy.  My husband and I were blown away by his gentleness with Bear and his love.  We had tears dripping down our faces as we held our boy until his very last breath as Bear passed away in our arms.  Even Dr. Hansen cried and was even telling Bear how much of a good and loyal boy Bear was.  Who does that???  Bear passed away with so much love and peace.  We couldn't have asked for more. Our boy is at peace and he went without a struggle.  He laid his precious head on his little baby Bear wrapped up in my husbands fed ex t-shirt, which had my husbands scent on it because he loved my husband so very much, in which Bear will be cremated with both.  I would also like to thank all the staff members at Brentwood Veterinary Hospital.  The love and support that we received was unexplainable.  It is an office full of compassionate individuals whom care not only about the animals but who also care about their people.  I highly recommend Brentwood Veterinary Hospital to everyone.  Thank you for all you've done for me and my family.  We will forever be thankful. We have been going to Brentwood Vet for over 14 years. Service depends on who your vet is. Today, I brought in my newly adopted dog to have a splinter removed and saw Dr. Hansen. He quoted me an outrageous amount over $500   And wanted me to take my dog to a behavioral specialist!!! I have all the records from the previous owner and the dog is in good health. BEWARE of the extra costs they are charging you for unnecessary tests and x-Rays. They used to be fair and ethical....they have lost my trust. People need to be aware so I am posting on Yelp. We just moved to the area and picked Brentwood Veterinary Hospital because of the good reviews.  The staff is very friendly and helpful. I am giving only 2 stars because I took my dog in for a reoccurring wound that began about a year ago.  We think that something was lodged in a wound when he had an encounter with a skunk.  We have previously had the wound looked at and reopened twice to probe and flush it out but  to no avail.  His paw had swollen again and the area was popping up between his "toes". A few days latter when we went in for his appointment the swelling had gone down and the wound did not open this time. I thought maybe an xray or ultrasound would be a good idea to see if anything could be detected.  Dr Ruygt suggested an ultrasound, but not promising any results.  I understood, but said that I did not want them to reopen or probe the wound (that had been tried before and nothing found). When they returned my dog to the room Dr Ruygt had reopened and probed the area, finding nothing. :/I am not a happy camper when I specifically ask you not to do something to my dog and you think you know better and do it anyway.  The technician that brought my dog back was apologetic.  She knew I did not want them probing around on the wound site. Again, the staff was very nice, but I will probably not go back, especially if I had to see the same veterinarian. Read Less

I am a mom of a Mini Australian Labradoodle. I have been taking our doodle to different groomers for the past 4 years and I always pick her up disappointed, until yesterday when I tried Brentwood Boarding & Grooming! I was thrilled to see how cute she looked. She looked perfect! I posted pictures of her new cut on social media and I was told by many that this is the best grooming she's had! I completely agree! I literally watched the blonde receptionist/tech smack a dog because it wouldn't sit on the scale. They refused to see new clients or just give a basic exam on a Saturday to a non-client. We just needed ear medication for our dog. They told us, its JUST an ear medication, it can wait till Monday. Obviously it can't, otherwise we wouldn't be here. Be polite to new clients. I had a very bad expierence here. I went in to get my dog checked because something was wrong with his neck. All the vet did was pet him and tell him he was going to be "OKAY." I got x-rays done and left with medicine (that ended up not working on him at all) and was charged almost five hundred which was not reasonable to me. Then I called them to ask if they can change his medince, waited almost a week for a call back so I had to call again. I got new medicine that ended up giving him siezures. I was very upset becuase I paid a whole lot for NOTHING. I ended up going to Banfield hospital, which was a whole lot cheaper and they literally checked my dog head to toe! Great place but anyway, I would not recommend this vet. Dont waste your money/time. Read Less

I found my visit to Brentwood Vet a pleasure. I found the staff was professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. The Hospital is clean and well maintained.
