Highly Knowledgeable, Experienced, Compassionate and wanting to make sure you understand how to keep your cat in the best possible condition-- this describes Bastet Cat Hospital. We brought our 14-year old adopted cat in, who was quite ill, but after a complete and thoughtful review, the doctor quickly diagnosed our cat, and two days later, he is in much better condition. Going to this vet was one of the worst experiences of my life. I just adopted an cat as an emotional support animal and had bonded with him immediately. After literally just looking at my cat and feeling around on his tummy, the doctor told me I had a very sick cat and basically said doing the $800 test probably wouldn’t even be worth it for this cat. I left a sobbing wreck. I got a second opinion. We gave the cat prescription food and he’s fine. I thought my new best friend was dying and he just has a sensitive tummy.

I have 3 cats and all are treated at Bastet. Staff is very caring. Dr. Basilous is smart and patient with our kitties. He is very knowledgeable and loves to share his experiences. He will take the time to explain your cat's needs and appropriate treatment. He understands that vet bills can be expensive and can work with you regarding what treatment is necessary and what is optional. I highly recommend them for all your cat needs. His office is full of wonderful Egyptian cat statues too!

If they treat cats how they treat people, then I feel bad for your cat.

There are way better vets out there. I have no idea how this place is still in business.

So I took my here to get her vaccination. I have been there a few years back, had no problem. But today, after getting a room I had just finished reading the papers I need to sign, doctor walks in, tells me he remembers me and that I should take my cat elsewhere!! I ask him why?? He didn't give me any reason!!
I am not sure what I have done to offend him or what my cat did! I have no clue! How can a doctor refuse service?? I have never reviewed any business before, but I felt so bad with this so I had to do it!

I went here with a kitty that my long-time vet had said had a virus that would never go away. We would just have to live with it. Upon recommendation from a friend who is a retired vet, I looked for a "cat only" practice. Dr. Basilious explained everything and every possibility on the first visit. He even gave me the name of a specialist and explained some of the things she might do, if I chose to go that route. Very friendly and thorough, explains everything so you can understand, and gave me all possible options, and let me make the choice. Seeing a difference in my kitty already, but will know more in time. Have already recommended him to a friend and neighbor.

I've had a good experience so far. They found out what was wrong with my cat and told me what my options were for the treatment of my cats ear problems. Her ears don't seem to be as bad as they were ( she came to me with this problem by the way) and she no longer has scabs and dried blood in there that I can see. I was even able to call and ask what to do when the first round of medicine didn't seem to work all the way and was able to go down and pick up the second round. As for the price, it seems fairly reasonable considering that this place cost no more than the vet that my family has taken all of their pets to for over 10 years. As for the customer service/ patient care it seemed fine to me. I got all of my questions answered and was informed of what could have caused my cat's problem, where exactly was the problem, what we could do to fix it, and what kind of improvement we'd be likely to see from the treatment. I was also able to get convenient times for the appointments for her. I will be taking her back to this establishment for as long as I'm in the area and stay happy with the care of my cat and the customer service.

On August 29, 2012, we adopted two 9-week old kittens from a Los Angeles City animal shelter, and were advised that there had been a recent outbreak of the deadly panleukopenia virus at the shelter. The next day we took the kittens to Dr. Sam Basilious at Bastet Cat Hospital for a free new adoption checkup , where we had been taking our other cats for three years. Each kitten was given a long-lasting antibiotic injection (to help prevent secondary bacterial infections), and we were advised to watch them closely. Their health continued to decline, so a week later a complete blood panel and urinalysis, and a panleukopenia test, confirmed that both kittens had been infected: one was recovering, the second was in decline. Under Dr. Basilious' guidance he, and we, treated the kittens aggressively. Bottom line: now, three months after we adopted them, we have two healthy, happy, and exceptionally vigorous and friendly kittens bringing joy to our lives: they now both weigh five times what they did when we adopted them. Dr. Basilious specializes in cats, and only cats, and his knowledge and experience are vast. The facilities are spotless, and his patients are treated like royalty. Is quality care like this expensive? Panleukopenia is nearly always fatal. If we'd elected to forgo certain treatments, or visit a lower cost veterinarian, the outcome most likely would not have been as bright. Whether it's humans or cats, quality medical care costs more and has a greater chance of a better outcome. And when it comes to our cats, which are our only children, we spare no expense to ensure that they have healthy, happy lives, thereby enriching our own lives in the process.

We have great clients who care. Many people understand that dealing with public is not easy. There is value for everything you buy. If someone waits until the cat get very sick then seek treatment, sometimes is going to be more expensive than you think. It amzes me that people do not compare Marriott to Motel 6 but they judge and blast vet care without understanding of what they are getting for their cats.

Bastet Cat Hospital has taken care of all my cats, and they have all lived to be in their late teens. Even my beloved Portia, who had a cancerous growth on a back leg. The leg had to be removed, but Dr. Basilious assured me that she would have a quality of life. She not only came through the surgery brilliantly, but lived to be over 19..with 3 legs. This practice is informed, sympathetic, and concerned, with state of the art service. I trust all my animals to Dr. Sam Basilious, and if you want the best for your cats, you will come here.

Not happy to see bad reviews about Bastet especially since we had such a pleasant experience with Dr. Basilious and staff. I guess everyone is entitled to there opinion, and here is mine. After my wife unknowingly ran over our cat while backing out of our drive way we rushed our cat to Dr. Basilious. We didn’t even know what happened at first, we just saw her laying there and thought that maybe she had a stoke. After the doctor examined our cat he recommended x-rays be taken to see if there were any broken bones. He was right, she unfortunately had a few bones broken including her pelvis. So after the doctor explained to us our options in depth we opted to keep her hospitalized over night and have a specialist come in the review her case to see if she would need surgery. The following day the specialist consulted with me and informed me that she would do fine without surgery which we were very happy to hear. All in all our experience with Bastet, Dr. Basilious, and staff went very well.

I recently went to Dr. Basilious after finding their website and reading such good reviews. I knew beforehand that it was not going to be the cheapest vet trip, but I was hoping it would be the best. Everything went well at first, the staff is very friendly and the office cats were comforting to my cat. I went in not knowing if there is a health issue with my cat or not, but hoping the Dr. could help me figure it out. He suggested full blood & urine testing which I agreed with, but when the cost came back ($460), I asked if we could look at the treatment options again because I simply could not spend that much. They came back with a few tests ommited, and the cost was less ($280), but still a little out of my reach. The vet nurse said since my cat was not agressive and was only squirming a little when held, she could deduct $78 and omit the ""gas"" they give cats to calm them down when taking blood. I agreed to the price, but then Dr. Basilious came into the room and said he wouldn't do it without the sedative and then just recommended I change his food and to bring him back in a few weeks to see if there had been any improvement with no tests at all. If my cat was in obvious distress or in an emergency case I would take him back here because the Dr. does seem knowledable, but as far regular care he seemed to mostly care about how much money he could get from me. I now have to try and look around to find a Dr. that can test my cat for less than half of my monthly rent.

I found this hospital on-line and checked their reviews. I noticed many great reviews and a few sounding angry and hostile (because of the cost of the services.) I took a shot at it anyways being that it was a cat only hospital. My cat was having Diarrhea for 3 weeks. I had gotten her from the animal shelter and she had been spayed and got her vaccines there. She had tested negative for Leukemia and cat AIDS. When I booked my appointment at Bastet the receptionist was pleasant and informative. She told me to bring any old records and told me the office exam was $ 55.00. They also informed me they have coupons available online, VERY HELPFUL!!During the appointment, Dr. Basilious did a fecal test. The test said it was negative for parasites, but Dr. told me it could be a viral disease like FIP or Inflammatory bowel syndrome. He gave me several options, which the receptionist showed me in a printed estimate. He told me I could either just start with the fecal test or do complete blood/ urine test and also x-rays. I choose to add the blood and urine test because I wanted to know. He gave me some medicine and told me to call back in 2 days with an update. One of the Bastet employees called me the following day and told me to come back in (free of charge) to speak to the Dr. regarding the lab results. He explained to me that the protein level was higher than the normal levels. The diarrhea subsided gradually and eventually went away completely with medications and special diet. I found Dr. Basilious was really up front, informative, and gave me options. My experience was positive; I would recommend Bastet to all my friends and family. Although the doctor told me what I did not like to hear he was defiantly more honest and upfront than others and diagnosed the problem right away.

We adopted a feral cat three years ago. Her name is Scratch because of her poor appearance at that time. She is still cautious and unpredictable, and not at all friendly. She often attacks when someone walks by or trys to pet her. Dr. Basilious checked her over. I warned him to be careful because she easily becomes mean and aggressive. He wrapped her in a towel and picked her up like a baby. He spoke to her gently and she stopped moving. Dr. Basilious was even able to clip her nails (the first time ever), we were so amazed that I took this picture. Thank you Dr. Basilious. The Curry Family

Dr. Basilious is the best vet I've been to in the twenty years I've lived on the Central and South Coast. Other vets have missed diagnosing problems and have never given me the thorough explanations that Dr. Basilious does. I wish that my own medical doctors would take the time to answer all my questions the way he does. As the owners of four cats, all rescues, and three of them now elderly, we've been needing to take them this past year to Bastet for various health issues. We never feel pressured to proceed with treatments and the doctor will often give us time alone to consider the options after we see an estimate. He is very knowledgeable and I highly recommend him.

I have a one year old Chinchilla Silver Persian kitty that I decided to have neutered. I wanted a place that was cats only, and it appears there really are only two choices remotely in my area (LA). I had heard through reviews and relatives that the other place wasn't as good as it used to be, so after reading the reviews of Bastet, I decided to investigate. I went to the hospital a few days ahead, to fill out paper work in advance and to get a feel for the place. It's easy to get to, has ample free parking, and the staff was great. When I brought my kitty in to meet the doctor, it was as if they were old friends. Dr. Basilious most certainly does have a way with cats. He has a no nonsense attitude, but it is tempered with his affection for the animals. My kitten's surgery went very well and healed beautifully, likely because of the unique way Dr. Basilious performs the surgery. After having my kitten checked out thoroughly, we discovered that he has crystals in his urine. We are in the process of using a specially prescribed eating program to correct the condition. While it still lingers, he has definitely improved, and we are optimistic that he will be completely free of crystals in a couple of months. I have seen a few complaints about the cost, and it isn't cheap, but the level of responsiveness and service makes it worth every penny. If you have a special cat, this is the place to bring him or her for very special care. A big thank you to Dr. B. and his wonderful staff!

We've been taking our cats to Bastet for years and now that we've been newly adopted by a stray, little Charlie has become the newest patient. Everyone there, from the staff, to the office cats to Dr. Sam himself are warm, caring and careful with our cat-kids. We understand it takes a special person to treat cats and we'd never take our cats anywhere else. Dr. Sam will also take the time to carefully explain diagnosis/prognosis/treatment and will offer alternatives so everyone is comfortable financially, physically and emotionally. We have no hesitation in refering Bastet to friends and/or anyone that's looking for a primo cat vet.

Bastet cat hospital has been around for a long time, in our experience they treat their patients with love and care, they are also very kind to the cat owners. They explain to you what is needed to keep your cats healthy; the doctor always explains to you what is wrong. What you can do to prevent cat problems and recommends different options of treatments. Many times Dr. Basilious will say the cat looks good you do not need that test now, come back in 6 months? The staff knows you by name; they know which food your cat is eating. Some people posted reviews on-line accusing Bastet of being expensive but they never explained the condition. If you go to the hospital for yourself and they tell you, you have kidney failure (like in Cats) and you have to be treated you usually never accuse them being expensive. I do not think that Bastet is expensive because you need to weigh the value of the care, also, you are going to a cats only facility that their cost of the facility may be slightly higher than if you go to Small Animals or All Creatures Hospital. Bastet office exam has been $ 55.00 that is comparable with many vets in the area. I am sure that there are many people are happy with Bastet. You make your choice to go see a doctor who will spend the time with you or go to HMO that is going to treat you as a number (in and out), you do not even know what is wrong with you, and you believe that you are getting care for cheap. Honey let me tell you, Cheap is very expensive and expensive is usually price for a value that translate into better quality.

I found Bastet about a year ago when one of my 17 year old cats suddenly lost a tremendous amount of weight and his prior doctor dismissed it as him getting old. Dr Basilious did a much more thorough examination and treated my little guy with much more respect. Unfortunately he was sick with aggressive cancer and it was too late to save him, which ended up being the worst day of my life. I am however sure that if I would have found Bastet earlier that he would have had a better chance. I later on brought in his twin brother for a checkup and he was diagnosed with CRF. Dr Basilious recommended special diets and daily medication which have extended my babies life and well being. He’s running around happy and his symptoms have not gone worse. He initially had a hard time getting used to the new diet and the Bastet staff helped me find something that works. Both my babies and I have always been treated with respect and I feel very comfortable visiting Bastet hospital. Prices are a bit high especially during these times but at the same time you get the proper medical care and that is more important than anything. So I am giving a high recommendation.

Dr. Basilious LOVES cats and it shows. He has helped me diagnose issues in advance to help my cats live healthier, longer lives than ever imagined! With his proactive care and treatments, my senior cats have lived over 1.5 years with kidney failure, and they are happy and doing great! My younger cats are healthy and happy, and they are very active! When I thought about moving to the west side, I thought, ""oh no, I can't live so far from Bastet! That just won't work for me!"" So, I am staying in Glendale! I'm 100% serious here... that's how much I love my cats! They deserve the BEST vet in LA!

My cat had lost a great deal of weight. I brought her to Bastet because of the great reviews posted on the net. After a quick exam Dr. Bascilious walked out of the room and the receptionist returned with paperwork to perform aprox. $1,000+ of tests (X-rays, Bloodwork and Urine). I asked if the Dr. was available to discuss the tests. He came back in the room angry and said words to the effect that I was a bad pet owner if I didn't run all of the tests. I nicely asked if we could start with the bloodworkup and urine. He said, ""that's your choice"" and walked out of the room. He sent the receptionist back in and I signed off and moved back to reception to pay for the tests. My cat was diagnosed with diabetes. I was given the results over the phone and I ordered the insulin, shots and purchased the canned and dry prescription food. I made an appointment to go over the tests and waited for over an hour the first time (rescheduled for the next day when the receptionist told me it would be another hour or two). At the next meeting, I couldn't figure out how to get the Dr. to explain the test results and how to treat my cat. He just stood there as I asked a series of questions (how much food, how much insulin, where do I give the injections, etc.). It was like pulling teeth and very frustrating. My mother has diabetes so I asked if I should use a glucometer. His answer, ""if you want"". So frustrating. I get the sense that if he doesn't feel you meet his criteria (money based) he tries to discourage you from becoming a regular client and is generally in a pretty foul mood. He doesn’t provide the pet owner with the information needed to properly care for their pet.

My pet and I are new to the area. We received unfriendly service from a vet who was uncommunicative and unresponsive. After discussing my pet's recurring problem, which I've researched in great detail, the vet was going to send us off with some medication and nothing more. If I hadn't known information from my former vet, my pet would have been completely impacted and could possibly die if nothing more intense was performed on him. I would highly recommend you seek another vet. I found great care with another animal care provider in Burbank and advise you to keep looking if you're considering this vet.

I've been taking all of my cats to Dr. Basilious for over 10 years now- he's the best veterinarian I have ever found in my 35 years of pet ownership. My cats have always received the best of care, and he is always extremely patient and kind. He is not the cheapest choice, but you get what you pay for. Over the years, he has gone above and beyond what most vets would to care for my cats, especially my ""problem kitty"" who never would have had such a long and happy life without Dr. Basilious. I started bringing my two cats to the Bastet Cat Hospital over three years ago after becoming unhappy with the care I'd been receiving at Studio City Animal Hospital. I've always found Dr. Basilious to be incredibly compassionate and a true expert in everything related to my two cat's health. Even just in the last few weeks he noticed something on an x-ray that my vet in New York had missed. (I split my time between NYC and Los Angeles) Both of my cats are older and have had their various health problems and the Dr has always taken a lot of time with me to explain everything in a very detailed manner so I always feel totally confident and informed with the plan for my animals. This facility isn't a 'factory' like many vet's offices seem like. It's very specialized and the service is very personal. I know this kind of care may seem a little more expensive..(although it's not any more $$ than I was paying at Studio City Animal Hospital) but the peace of mind I have knowing I'm providing my animals with the best care is worth it. I have also referred friends to the hospital who have also had great experiences. (including a friend's cat who fell out of a 6th floor window and suffered a broken jaw) Jules Asner

My cat Bailey was a patient of Dr. Basilious? for three years. I couldn?t have asked for better care for my best friend. As a matter of fact I would tell Bailey he was getting the Cadillac of care. But really he was getting the Rolls-Royce of care. As a clinician myself, I realize that one of the gold standards of care is to always provide the patient with conservative treatment first. If an effective treatment can be provided that enables the patient to experience the least discomfort than this treatment should be always be provided. This is true of all patients including humans, cats and dogs. Dr. Basilious practices this standard in a very methodical and thoughtful way and always provides compassionate, conservative care for his patients. Something that is often overlooked in the medical profession is the importance of educating the patient. I can?t begin to tell you how many hours Dr. Basilious painstakingly discussed Bailey?s condition with me and the treatment options and why those were the best treatment options. Any human being should be so lucky to have a doctor that takes this kind of time with them and makes this kind of effort. I have had the experience of trying to find a veterinarian in the Los Angeles area in which I feel comfortable. This can be a very cumbersome and worrisome effort that in the past has not provided good results. Now, I feel a great deal of comfort in knowing that when I adopt another cat I know exactly where I?ll take him or her for their medical care.

We brought our 14-year old adopted cat in, who was quite ill, but after a complete and thoughtful review, the doctor quickly diagnosed our cat, and two days later, he is in much better condition. Going to this vet was one of the worst experiences of my life. I just adopted an cat as an emotional support animal and had bonded with him immediately. After literally just looking at my cat and feeling around on his tummy, the doctor told me I had a very sick cat and basically said doing the $800 test probably wouldn’t even be worth it for this cat. I left a sobbing wreck. I got a second opinion. We gave the cat prescription food and he’s fine. I thought my new best friend was dying and he just has a sensitive tummy.

I have 3 cats and all are treated at Bastet. Staff is very caring. Dr. Basilous is smart and patient with our kitties. He is very knowledgeable and loves to share his experiences. He will take the time to explain your cat's needs and appropriate treatment. He understands that vet bills can be expensive and can work with you regarding what treatment is necessary and what is optional. I highly recommend them for all your cat needs. His office is full of wonderful Egyptian cat statues too!

There are way better vets out there. I have no idea how this place is still in business.

So I took my here to get her vaccination. I have been there a few years back, had no problem. But today, after getting a room I had just finished reading the papers I need to sign, doctor walks in, tells me he remembers me and that I should take my cat elsewhere!! I ask him why?? He didn't give me any reason!!
I am not sure what I have done to offend him or what my cat did! I have no clue! How can a doctor refuse service?? I have never reviewed any business before, but I felt so bad with this so I had to do it!

I went here with a kitty that my long-time vet had said had a virus that would never go away. We would just have to live with it. Upon recommendation from a friend who is a retired vet, I looked for a "cat only" practice. Dr. Basilious explained everything and every possibility on the first visit. He even gave me the name of a specialist and explained some of the things she might do, if I chose to go that route. Very friendly and thorough, explains everything so you can understand, and gave me all possible options, and let me make the choice. Seeing a difference in my kitty already, but will know more in time. Have already recommended him to a friend and neighbor.

I've had a good experience so far. They found out what was wrong with my cat and told me what my options were for the treatment of my cats ear problems. Her ears don't seem to be as bad as they were ( she came to me with this problem by the way) and she no longer has scabs and dried blood in there that I can see. I was even able to call and ask what to do when the first round of medicine didn't seem to work all the way and was able to go down and pick up the second round. As for the price, it seems fairly reasonable considering that this place cost no more than the vet that my family has taken all of their pets to for over 10 years. As for the customer service/ patient care it seemed fine to me. I got all of my questions answered and was informed of what could have caused my cat's problem, where exactly was the problem, what we could do to fix it, and what kind of improvement we'd be likely to see from the treatment. I was also able to get convenient times for the appointments for her. I will be taking her back to this establishment for as long as I'm in the area and stay happy with the care of my cat and the customer service.

On August 29, 2012, we adopted two 9-week old kittens from a Los Angeles City animal shelter, and were advised that there had been a recent outbreak of the deadly panleukopenia virus at the shelter. The next day we took the kittens to Dr. Sam Basilious at Bastet Cat Hospital for a free new adoption checkup , where we had been taking our other cats for three years. Each kitten was given a long-lasting antibiotic injection (to help prevent secondary bacterial infections), and we were advised to watch them closely. Their health continued to decline, so a week later a complete blood panel and urinalysis, and a panleukopenia test, confirmed that both kittens had been infected: one was recovering, the second was in decline. Under Dr. Basilious' guidance he, and we, treated the kittens aggressively. Bottom line: now, three months after we adopted them, we have two healthy, happy, and exceptionally vigorous and friendly kittens bringing joy to our lives: they now both weigh five times what they did when we adopted them. Dr. Basilious specializes in cats, and only cats, and his knowledge and experience are vast. The facilities are spotless, and his patients are treated like royalty. Is quality care like this expensive? Panleukopenia is nearly always fatal. If we'd elected to forgo certain treatments, or visit a lower cost veterinarian, the outcome most likely would not have been as bright. Whether it's humans or cats, quality medical care costs more and has a greater chance of a better outcome. And when it comes to our cats, which are our only children, we spare no expense to ensure that they have healthy, happy lives, thereby enriching our own lives in the process.

If someone waits until the cat get very sick then seek treatment, sometimes is going to be more expensive than you think. It amzes me that people do not compare Marriott to Motel 6 but they judge and blast vet care without understanding of what they are getting for their cats.

Bastet Cat Hospital has taken care of all my cats, and they have all lived to be in their late teens. Even my beloved Portia, who had a cancerous growth on a back leg. The leg had to be removed, but Dr. Basilious assured me that she would have a quality of life. She not only came through the surgery brilliantly, but lived to be over 19..with 3 legs. This practice is informed, sympathetic, and concerned, with state of the art service. I trust all my animals to Dr. Sam Basilious, and if you want the best for your cats, you will come here.

Not happy to see bad reviews about Bastet especially since we had such a pleasant experience with Dr. Basilious and staff. I guess everyone is entitled to there opinion, and here is mine. After my wife unknowingly ran over our cat while backing out of our drive way we rushed our cat to Dr. Basilious. We didn’t even know what happened at first, we just saw her laying there and thought that maybe she had a stoke. After the doctor examined our cat he recommended x-rays be taken to see if there were any broken bones. He was right, she unfortunately had a few bones broken including her pelvis. So after the doctor explained to us our options in depth we opted to keep her hospitalized over night and have a specialist come in the review her case to see if she would need surgery. The following day the specialist consulted with me and informed me that she would do fine without surgery which we were very happy to hear. All in all our experience with Bastet, Dr. Basilious, and staff went very well.

I recently went to Dr. Basilious after finding their website and reading such good reviews. I knew beforehand that it was not going to be the cheapest vet trip, but I was hoping it would be the best. Everything went well at first, the staff is very friendly and the office cats were comforting to my cat. I went in not knowing if there is a health issue with my cat or not, but hoping the Dr. could help me figure it out. He suggested full blood & urine testing which I agreed with, but when the cost came back ($460), I asked if we could look at the treatment options again because I simply could not spend that much. They came back with a few tests ommited, and the cost was less ($280), but still a little out of my reach. The vet nurse said since my cat was not agressive and was only squirming a little when held, she could deduct $78 and omit the ""gas"" they give cats to calm them down when taking blood. I agreed to the price, but then Dr. Basilious came into the room and said he wouldn't do it without the sedative and then just recommended I change his food and to bring him back in a few weeks to see if there had been any improvement with no tests at all. If my cat was in obvious distress or in an emergency case I would take him back here because the Dr. does seem knowledable, but as far regular care he seemed to mostly care about how much money he could get from me. I now have to try and look around to find a Dr. that can test my cat for less than half of my monthly rent.

I found this hospital on-line and checked their reviews. I noticed many great reviews and a few sounding angry and hostile (because of the cost of the services.) I took a shot at it anyways being that it was a cat only hospital. My cat was having Diarrhea for 3 weeks. I had gotten her from the animal shelter and she had been spayed and got her vaccines there. She had tested negative for Leukemia and cat AIDS. When I booked my appointment at Bastet the receptionist was pleasant and informative. She told me to bring any old records and told me the office exam was $ 55.00. They also informed me they have coupons available online, VERY HELPFUL!!During the appointment, Dr. Basilious did a fecal test. The test said it was negative for parasites, but Dr. told me it could be a viral disease like FIP or Inflammatory bowel syndrome. He gave me several options, which the receptionist showed me in a printed estimate. He told me I could either just start with the fecal test or do complete blood/ urine test and also x-rays. I choose to add the blood and urine test because I wanted to know. He gave me some medicine and told me to call back in 2 days with an update. One of the Bastet employees called me the following day and told me to come back in (free of charge) to speak to the Dr. regarding the lab results. He explained to me that the protein level was higher than the normal levels. The diarrhea subsided gradually and eventually went away completely with medications and special diet. I found Dr. Basilious was really up front, informative, and gave me options. My experience was positive; I would recommend Bastet to all my friends and family. Although the doctor told me what I did not like to hear he was defiantly more honest and upfront than others and diagnosed the problem right away.

We adopted a feral cat three years ago. Her name is Scratch because of her poor appearance at that time. She is still cautious and unpredictable, and not at all friendly. She often attacks when someone walks by or trys to pet her. Dr. Basilious checked her over. I warned him to be careful because she easily becomes mean and aggressive. He wrapped her in a towel and picked her up like a baby. He spoke to her gently and she stopped moving. Dr. Basilious was even able to clip her nails (the first time ever), we were so amazed that I took this picture. Thank you Dr. Basilious. The Curry Family

Dr. Basilious is the best vet I've been to in the twenty years I've lived on the Central and South Coast. Other vets have missed diagnosing problems and have never given me the thorough explanations that Dr. Basilious does. I wish that my own medical doctors would take the time to answer all my questions the way he does. As the owners of four cats, all rescues, and three of them now elderly, we've been needing to take them this past year to Bastet for various health issues. We never feel pressured to proceed with treatments and the doctor will often give us time alone to consider the options after we see an estimate. He is very knowledgeable and I highly recommend him.

I have a one year old Chinchilla Silver Persian kitty that I decided to have neutered. I wanted a place that was cats only, and it appears there really are only two choices remotely in my area (LA). I had heard through reviews and relatives that the other place wasn't as good as it used to be, so after reading the reviews of Bastet, I decided to investigate. I went to the hospital a few days ahead, to fill out paper work in advance and to get a feel for the place. It's easy to get to, has ample free parking, and the staff was great. When I brought my kitty in to meet the doctor, it was as if they were old friends. Dr. Basilious most certainly does have a way with cats. He has a no nonsense attitude, but it is tempered with his affection for the animals. My kitten's surgery went very well and healed beautifully, likely because of the unique way Dr. Basilious performs the surgery. After having my kitten checked out thoroughly, we discovered that he has crystals in his urine. We are in the process of using a specially prescribed eating program to correct the condition. While it still lingers, he has definitely improved, and we are optimistic that he will be completely free of crystals in a couple of months. I have seen a few complaints about the cost, and it isn't cheap, but the level of responsiveness and service makes it worth every penny. If you have a special cat, this is the place to bring him or her for very special care. A big thank you to Dr. B. and his wonderful staff!

We've been taking our cats to Bastet for years and now that we've been newly adopted by a stray, little Charlie has become the newest patient. Everyone there, from the staff, to the office cats to Dr. Sam himself are warm, caring and careful with our cat-kids. We understand it takes a special person to treat cats and we'd never take our cats anywhere else. Dr. Sam will also take the time to carefully explain diagnosis/prognosis/treatment and will offer alternatives so everyone is comfortable financially, physically and emotionally. We have no hesitation in refering Bastet to friends and/or anyone that's looking for a primo cat vet.

They explain to you what is needed to keep your cats healthy; the doctor always explains to you what is wrong. What you can do to prevent cat problems and recommends different options of treatments. Many times Dr. Basilious will say the cat looks good you do not need that test now, come back in 6 months? The staff knows you by name; they know which food your cat is eating. Some people posted reviews on-line accusing Bastet of being expensive but they never explained the condition. If you go to the hospital for yourself and they tell you, you have kidney failure (like in Cats) and you have to be treated you usually never accuse them being expensive. I do not think that Bastet is expensive because you need to weigh the value of the care, also, you are going to a cats only facility that their cost of the facility may be slightly higher than if you go to Small Animals or All Creatures Hospital. Bastet office exam has been $ 55.00 that is comparable with many vets in the area. I am sure that there are many people are happy with Bastet. You make your choice to go see a doctor who will spend the time with you or go to HMO that is going to treat you as a number (in and out), you do not even know what is wrong with you, and you believe that you are getting care for cheap. Honey let me tell you, Cheap is very expensive and expensive is usually price for a value that translate into better quality.

I found Bastet about a year ago when one of my 17 year old cats suddenly lost a tremendous amount of weight and his prior doctor dismissed it as him getting old. Dr Basilious did a much more thorough examination and treated my little guy with much more respect. Unfortunately he was sick with aggressive cancer and it was too late to save him, which ended up being the worst day of my life. I am however sure that if I would have found Bastet earlier that he would have had a better chance. I later on brought in his twin brother for a checkup and he was diagnosed with CRF. Dr Basilious recommended special diets and daily medication which have extended my babies life and well being. He’s running around happy and his symptoms have not gone worse. He initially had a hard time getting used to the new diet and the Bastet staff helped me find something that works. Both my babies and I have always been treated with respect and I feel very comfortable visiting Bastet hospital. Prices are a bit high especially during these times but at the same time you get the proper medical care and that is more important than anything. So I am giving a high recommendation.

Dr. Basilious LOVES cats and it shows. He has helped me diagnose issues in advance to help my cats live healthier, longer lives than ever imagined! With his proactive care and treatments, my senior cats have lived over 1.5 years with kidney failure, and they are happy and doing great! My younger cats are healthy and happy, and they are very active! When I thought about moving to the west side, I thought, ""oh no, I can't live so far from Bastet! That just won't work for me!"" So, I am staying in Glendale! I'm 100% serious here... that's how much I love my cats! They deserve the BEST vet in LA!

My cat had lost a great deal of weight. I brought her to Bastet because of the great reviews posted on the net. After a quick exam Dr. Bascilious walked out of the room and the receptionist returned with paperwork to perform aprox. $1,000+ of tests (X-rays, Bloodwork and Urine). I asked if the Dr. was available to discuss the tests. He came back in the room angry and said words to the effect that I was a bad pet owner if I didn't run all of the tests. I nicely asked if we could start with the bloodworkup and urine. He said, ""that's your choice"" and walked out of the room. He sent the receptionist back in and I signed off and moved back to reception to pay for the tests. My cat was diagnosed with diabetes. I was given the results over the phone and I ordered the insulin, shots and purchased the canned and dry prescription food. I made an appointment to go over the tests and waited for over an hour the first time (rescheduled for the next day when the receptionist told me it would be another hour or two). At the next meeting, I couldn't figure out how to get the Dr. to explain the test results and how to treat my cat. He just stood there as I asked a series of questions (how much food, how much insulin, where do I give the injections, etc.). It was like pulling teeth and very frustrating. My mother has diabetes so I asked if I should use a glucometer. His answer, ""if you want"". So frustrating. I get the sense that if he doesn't feel you meet his criteria (money based) he tries to discourage you from becoming a regular client and is generally in a pretty foul mood. He doesn’t provide the pet owner with the information needed to properly care for their pet.

My pet and I are new to the area. We received unfriendly service from a vet who was uncommunicative and unresponsive. After discussing my pet's recurring problem, which I've researched in great detail, the vet was going to send us off with some medication and nothing more. If I hadn't known information from my former vet, my pet would have been completely impacted and could possibly die if nothing more intense was performed on him. I would highly recommend you seek another vet. I found great care with another animal care provider in Burbank and advise you to keep looking if you're considering this vet.

I've been taking all of my cats to Dr. Basilious for over 10 years now- he's the best veterinarian I have ever found in my 35 years of pet ownership. My cats have always received the best of care, and he is always extremely patient and kind. He is not the cheapest choice, but you get what you pay for. Over the years, he has gone above and beyond what most vets would to care for my cats, especially my ""problem kitty"" who never would have had such a long and happy life without Dr. Basilious. I cannot recommend him highly enough!

I started bringing my two cats to the Bastet Cat Hospital over three years ago after becoming unhappy with the care I'd been receiving at Studio City Animal Hospital. I've always found Dr. Basilious to be incredibly compassionate and a true expert in everything related to my two cat's health. Even just in the last few weeks he noticed something on an x-ray that my vet in New York had missed. (I split my time between NYC and Los Angeles) Both of my cats are older and have had their various health problems and the Dr has always taken a lot of time with me to explain everything in a very detailed manner so I always feel totally confident and informed with the plan for my animals. This facility isn't a 'factory' like many vet's offices seem like. It's very specialized and the service is very personal. I know this kind of care may seem a little more expensive..(although it's not any more $$ than I was paying at Studio City Animal Hospital) but the peace of mind I have knowing I'm providing my animals with the best care is worth it. I have also referred friends to the hospital who have also had great experiences. (including a friend's cat who fell out of a 6th floor window and suffered a broken jaw) Jules Asner

My cat Bailey was a patient of Dr. Basilious? for three years. I couldn?t have asked for better care for my best friend. As a matter of fact I would tell Bailey he was getting the Cadillac of care. But really he was getting the Rolls-Royce of care. As a clinician myself, I realize that one of the gold standards of care is to always provide the patient with conservative treatment first. If an effective treatment can be provided that enables the patient to experience the least discomfort than this treatment should be always be provided. This is true of all patients including humans, cats and dogs. Dr. Basilious practices this standard in a very methodical and thoughtful way and always provides compassionate, conservative care for his patients. Something that is often overlooked in the medical profession is the importance of educating the patient. I can?t begin to tell you how many hours Dr. Basilious painstakingly discussed Bailey?s condition with me and the treatment options and why those were the best treatment options. Any human being should be so lucky to have a doctor that takes this kind of time with them and makes this kind of effort. I have had the experience of trying to find a veterinarian in the Los Angeles area in which I feel comfortable. This can be a very cumbersome and worrisome effort that in the past has not provided good results. Now, I feel a great deal of comfort in knowing that when I adopt another cat I know exactly where I?ll take him or her for their medical care.
