The worst as a vet, and an even worse human being. Boarded our senior dog there for a week, and when we picked him up he was nearly starved to death. Couldn't walk and wouldn't eat. So bad we tried calling that afternoon to euthanize, but they were closed. We chose to board him at the vet because he was an older dog thinking at least a vet will be near should he need assistance. When we finally got a hold of him to ask what happened he said and I quote 'I wasn't caring for your dog. I boarded him'. When asked would he help us by euthanizing gratis considering we just paid nearly $300 to board only to have to put him down a day later because of neglect, his exact answer was 'it's not Christmas, so I'm not waving the $172.' My mother is a senior citizen, and had a senior cat that was her dear friend. The cat was suffering with arthritis and kidney failure, and when my mother made the difficult decision to say goodbye to her cat, she called this place and they gave her a price of $106. After the vet (a man devoid of compassion) put her down, the receptionist charged us $175. Surprise! They charge $69 for city cremation! What a cruel surprise for them to pull on an elderly woman! I have been coming to Rainbow for at least 3 years now and have never experienced one second of any of the things these other low reviewers post, so I guess your experience may vary, but for us and our pet, we are so very thankful for the caring staff, the warmth and love they provide our pet and the honest way they treat us. The Dr. has always been kind, friendly, gentle, concerned and caring. The staff nothing but friendly smiles and genuine care. I know how much people rely on these reviews, both as a consumer and as a business, so to see the 5 stars mixed with 1 star reviews would be confusing and concerning. All I have is my experience, but allow me to share. Due to a thyroid issue I have had to go to the vet every 6 weeks or so (that might I add was looking very concerning when it started and today we have an active, healthy, coming up on 20 year old pet that I genuinely credit this Hospital for saving!), put that to 3+ years, well that's 26 visits and I would put a 5 star on each and every one. This place is terrible... took my cat here and was misdiagnosed several times.. she wasnt being herself, was no eating and wasn't grooming herself. They keep giving me the run around.. at the end all they said was "well she is getting there... what do you expect she is old" . Spent 6 months and thousands of dollars at this place. Finally took her somewhere else and My 13 year old was diagnose with squamous cell carcinoma. I did everything I could to save her $10,000 and several trips to Sacramento where she was put on an experimental pill and extensive radiotherapy.. gave my baby another 6 months of life... until I finally gave up to see her skin and bones.. He doesn't recommend services if they aren't necessary which is something I have come across in my experiences with vets over the years;however will go above and beyond and is exceptional even with surgical procedures or other treatments. I was being given the run around at a few places and my mom gave me the number for this hospital. I didnt even make an appointment but simply came in with my baby and they took care of us and answered all my questions. They even called and checked in on my sweet baby! Which made me feel at ease! I can't stress enough stay away from this place. They overcharged and don't know what the heck they are doing. One friend took her cat in to get spayed and came out with sore on their kitties face which is now gotten worse and spreading to the ears. Cat was fine until they brought it to this place now they want to keep charging them more and more money because they can't figure out what the hell is wrong. With the days she got worse I called the vet and emailed them a picture since I had spent nearly so much money on shots, spay and all and they said to bring her in. For another $130 the gave her a shot and said she'd be fine in the next 2 weeks. We've now spent nearly $1000 there and I'm watching this get worse and worse and she won't even come inside the house...it's like she knows it's not good for my kids to be around her. Read Less

Very unhappy. I went to this Vet several times about a year ago and became angry when they stuck my (then)14 yr old dog over 20 times to draw blood. When I objected the assistant smiled and continued sticking her. I practically had to knock the needle from her hand to get her to take me seriously and stop torturing my elderly dog. She was put on the anti-inflamitory she needed and since I usually get her meds online, the doctor told me that they price-match with an online pet-med organization and so I continued to go there for her medications. After the second absolute disaster of a blood drawing 6 months later, I carried her out of there and took her to Media City Vet where it took ONE needle stick to draw her blood. I had Media City send over her blood results and after explaining to the people at Rainbow Vet I was able to buy my dog's medication there still. This went on for a year. Yesterday I called to renew her prescription and was told that she needed another blood test. I took her to Media City, renewed the prescription and had it sent to Rainbow Vet. I talked to them today and they informed me that it no longer mattered that she got a full check-up and blood test yesterday, she'd have to come in to get it there for her medication. If you would hire someone, ANYONE who knew how to do a simple blood draw, I would have stayed, even though Dr. Metzger comes off condescending and my dog wasn't particularly fond of him. Read Less

Dr Metzger basically told me to put my dog to sleep instead of treating him with medication for hyperactivity. he said, "why are you so attached to him?" Because he is my dog, jerk.  He is horrible and is rude. DON'T GO HERE! Now I found out he is working on a suspended license and is on probation. If you love your furry little friend, DO NOT BRING THEM HERE! My 2 year old husky had a strange looking bite on his hip and when I brought him in the vet kept on saying I don't know what it is. Brought him in a week later to see how the wound was healing and he also started to have some strange discharge in his right eye. Didn't even look or touch my husky because he said he didn't want to get bitten by him. Why would he bite you unless you grab him aggressively? Asked more questions about why his eye had discharge and if it's related to the wound. What was his answer? "I don't know" why the hell are you a vet???? Last time coming here. Waste of money. I would not recommend this place to anyone! Im forced to give it one star. The vet is very rude. I read all the reviews before and they are right! It was my last resort vet since it was a Saturday and my first 3 choices were closed. I take my dog for a spider bite and he wanted to sedate her just to examine her. No way! Especially not after all the reviews i read about the person's dog not waking up. Then he tells me that "i need to train my dog cause she has me trained." Uhm, my dog is very trained and intelligent. Probably smarter than this guy. And then at the end. He asks me if im even 18? Hey guy im 27! Seriously?  So rude. No wonder he was talking down to me the whole time. I will never come back. I found myself in a family emergency situation where we could not keep our dog for an uncertain amount of time. We had our dog Rusty staying at Rainbow Veterinary Hospital for two months, and I had a very great experience.I was genuinely surprised to see this low rating on Yelp. And I get why. This place is not some Hollywood joint that will hand you frozen yogurt and give you foot massages so they can get a better reviews. But people working here are solid, professional, and got a love of love for these animals. Have been going to Rainbow for 9 years....... our boys, three miniature dachshunds, were 10, 7 & 4 when we began taking them there! We had a couple of years with Dr. Wylie.....then Dr. Metzger & "extended " staff! While our guys were always treated great we would never know who we would get when we came in.......to be truthful...... the place had a factory feel to it! Then Dr. Metzger trimmed the fat & what has evolved is a great neighborhood vet!!! The staff is great beyond belief, the place is spotless & Doc is wonderful!!! Our oldest, Kirby, pasted away 3 years ago at the age of 17. Oreck is starting to slow down a bit, he'll be 17 in June! Dyson, is ever the bull in a china shop, and is 14!!!!! They get the best care possible at Rainbow & have always come home from vacation stays very happy & healthy!!! Thank you Dr. Metzger & Team Rainbow!!! Read Less

My chihuahua was not being her usual self and It seemed like she was weak, I got scared and looked up the closest place to my house to take her and this was it. I had never been here before but the usual vet was too far and I felt this was an emergency so I needed the closest vet. I took her in and the doctor examined her and said she seemed fine. And if over the weekend she gets worse (this was on a Saturday and they were closing) to bring her back in on Monday. They charged me $70 and I went back home.After an hr or 2 I still felt something was seriously wrong. I ended up taking her to a 24 hr "Eagle Rock Emergency Pet Clinic" and the doctor did an examination and right away said he cant feel her stomach and needed to do an x-ray. Come to find out she had a tumor attached to her spleen that was the size of her head!! The tumor was pushing against her organs not allowing her to breathe properly! Of course we gave the ok for him to do surgery to try and save our dog! Cost me $5,000 but I now have a healthy active pup! LOVED THE EAGLE ROCK LOCATION THEY WERE SO GREAT!The vet at this location doesn't know anything about dogs obviously! They gave me a call on Monday asking me how my dog was doing and I told them what I had gone thru and that $70 I paid them was complete BULLSHIT because they did absolutely NOTHING and shouldn't be a vet!! They didn't even offer to refund me my money! DO NOT TRUST YOUR ANIMALS WITH THIS PLACE!!! THEY ARE BULLSHIT AND SCAM PEOPLE! Read Less

Dr. metzger is very knowledgeable and shared good information about treating my dog allergies. Prices for the visit and medicine were fair. Here's the negative part that brought the score down:The Doctor had no connection or warmth towards my pet. He came in lightly acknowledged me and just started examining. It made my normally very calm and friendly dog agitated, and extra nervous. I stayed with my dog comforting him throughout the exam.I'm new again, returning to LA to live, after 6 years away. I am very familiar with Rainbow when it was being run by Dr. Wiley. After being taken over by Dr. Timothy Metzger (#4632), noting but problems and terrible reviews. It's too bad too since this is walking distance from my house. I was checking prices for a dental cleaning for my dog and happened to see all of the bad reviews. Then I was curious and decided to check with the CA Veterinary Board to see what was really going on. I discovered a citation being issued in 2000 and "Revoked, Stayed, Suspension, & Probation" in 2015. The public records indicate that he is on probation for 4 years (until 2019) as of June 3. 2015. I am so glad that I discover all of this before trusting Rainbow for my dog's medical needs. Do your research before taking your loved pets here! Read Less

We were looking for a vet to get our dogs fixed. Luckily, we found this place and we called to make an appointment right from the start. The customer service was great, then we arrived on the date of the appointment. We loved the receptionist. Everything went fast and easy. We met the doctor so far so good so we were confident enough to leave our babies in his hands. As planned, the surgery went smooth. My puppies were happy and normal. I was lucky to have a good experience. The price for both dogs - one was spayed and the other neutered - was reasonable and not overly expensive. After I got home I read the reviews and I was very surprised by some of the bad reviews given our extraordinary, stellar service. Read Less

I only moved one year ago.]I began going to Rainbow in 2004 when my English Mastiff was only 2 years old. The ownership has changed several times since then so this review will only focus on Dr. Metzer's tenure as the owner and main vet. PROS+The place is always clean.+The staff is great, especially if you are a regular client. They genuinely love animals and care about the welfare of your pet.+Making an appointment is easy and you can often get an appointment the same day. +There is a vaccine clinic on Thursdays, and they are open on Saturdays.CONS+While Dr. Metzer is a nice man, he is not a good vet. He often does treatments way beyond his area of expertise.Example: Dr. Metzer once removed two benign bumps (lipomas) from our English Mastiff WITHOUT my permission. As a result, our dog became susceptible to an infection and we had to take him to a specialist hours after the surgery.+I don't think Dr. Metzer is out to cheat anyone, but doing unnecessary treatments is a way to make more money. Example: Dr. Metzer once gave our male cat an unnecessary amount of anesthetic and it took our cat (he was a big guy) more than half a day to recover. It was awful watching him stagger around. Just awful.Bottom line: Fine vet for vaccines, flea meds, and specialty food. Do not do any other treatments here. I wouldn't even recommend an annual exam or dental cleaning. She wadnt very sedated and when he failed to enter a vein he toom her in back. I assumed hed use an IV as my other Vets have. Timothy Metzger License number 4632 from Rainbow Veterinary is the MOST unprofessional veterinarian, It should have been obvious I made a mistake choosing this place when I walked in and it was like a ghost town COMPLETELY EMPTY without any patients! my dog was not feeling well after entering the room Metzger 4632 entered the room he started to glare at my dog in the eyes before putting his face in my dog's face. She was muzzled by me not for aggression reasons but purely because my dog like most doesn't like the VET plus he was a new doctor for her. He put his head directly in her face, she pushed her head at him and it obviously scared him He proceeded to sedate my dog WITHOUT CONSULTING ME OR ASKING PERMISSION! I immediately stopped him and told him I DID NOT give him the right. He instantly became livid and said "THEN GET THE HELL OUT!" Then saying that bad dogs aren't allowed on his table he also said he used to be a "F***ing" linebacker and bad dogs end up on the floor!!! This was a complete shock! Not only his threats to an animal but his horrible language! His statement was a direct threat and abusive statement to my dog! YES he did use those words!! What kind of veterinarian uses this type of language?! what type of veterinarian threatens a defenseless dog like this?! I'll tell you what type, an untrained non compassionate heartless evil person who is obviously suffering with some type of mental illness his behavior showed all the signs including his erratic flip of personality, his outrageous anger over nothing. After I left I contacted my attorney who has filed a complaint against Tim Metzger 4632 and his office Rainbow Vet. My attorney discovered many official complaints that have already been filed against Metzger 4632. Animals have died at his hand due to his negligence. I have also filed an official complaint. I suggest anyone who has had such an experience with this Metzger 4632 I highly suggest you also file a complaint enough complaints will get his license suspended he is not in the MENTAL POSITION TO PLAY DOCTOR and needs to be stopped!STAY AWAY AND BEWARE!!!!!
