I had the best day today. Why? Well, because something extraordinary occurred this morning. Today, after 5 years of searching for a veterinarian who wouldn't whisk my dog into the back to perform unknown and exorbitant examinations or tests, make me feel like a neurotic headcase for being concerned, or guilt me into spending 4 times more than I felt necessary, I found one. I found THE one. I guess what they say is true. When it's right, you just know.I cannot tell you how many other clinics I've taken my pets to in the area, both for emergency care, and regular "my dog is limping and lethargic, can you fit him in?" types of situations. NO other clinic, with the exception of Feline Well Care, who is no longer open to the public, has wowed me the way Camino Real did today. From the moment I called, they were accommodating. I hadn't scheduled an appointment, yet they were able to squeeze me in the next morning. In fact, they would have taken me on the same day had I been closer and able to get my dog there in time.Dr. Frank was incredible. She took her time to really listen to the problem, which is something that I've learned from experiences with other vets to absolutely not take for granted, and she examined my nervous, trembling dog right there in the room with me. That, in and of itself, won Camino Real points in my book. I don't know about you, but whenever a vet takes my babies into the back room, and then comes back in with a $500 estimate after doing who knows what, I'm always leery. Her examination was thorough, which impressed me, and then this is what really sealed the deal, she said she wanted to treat him conservatively first, before thinking about x-rays and such. Conservatively! It's a word that I think far too many veterinarians exclude from their vocabularies. I had to restrain myself because I really wanted to hug her. For the service we received, I thought the prices were absolutely beyond reasonable. A 10-day supply of pain killers was $20 (2 pills/day, so $1/pill), and they've already worked miracles on my achy pup. The exam was $65 - again, reasonable, considering I was seen the day after I called and could have been seen the same day (though I wouldn't recommend counting on that always being the case). And a heartworm test was $38. All fine by me, considering anywhere else I would have taken him, they probably would have recommended x-rays and a full blood panel, running into several hundred dollars. Bonus, they price match online stores for Trifexis, which I'm likely going to start my dog on soon, provided his tests show him to be heartworm negative. Also, mini-candy bars at the front desk and coffee are a nice touch. If you were on the fence about whether to give Camino Real a try, do it. The staff is wonderful, Dr. Frank is a godsend, and you can nibble on a Snickers bar while you wait. Read Less
