I've had only good experiences with Dr. G and the rest of the staff at Camino Real Pet Clinic!  We relocated to San Francisco a little over a year ago, and were referred to this clinic.  I took in my dog Lila for a general check up, but was also concerned with her relative low level of energy since the move.  Dr. G performed a thorough examination, and recommended a couple diagnostic tests in order to ensure that Lila's behavioral changes were not from any underlying conditions.  We got the test results back quickly and someone from the clinic even called a couple days later to check in on Lila.Unfortunately, Lila was recently diagnosed with epilepsy, so we have to see a neurologist for the majority of our appointments - but we will definitely still visit Camino Real for all other issues.  You won't be disappointed! ABSOLUTELY RECOMMENDED!!! TEN STARS IF I COULD!Sometimes bringing your pet to the vet can feel like taking your car to the mechanic- you never know if they're 'upselling' you on unnecessary maintenance or cutting corners. I've brought my kitty here numerous times now and this clinic has been ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING at communicating with me what every recommended treatment/test/medication will do to benefit my kitty. Camino Real pet clinic has never made me feel like they're trying to make a buck off of me. I really feel like they're passionate about what they do. I brought my kitty here yesterday for MAJOR dental work. He had never been under anesthesia before(in my care) and he's an older cat. So of course I am a nervous wreck about leaving him for a whole day of surgery. I requested a phone call to let me know he was safely under anesthesia and they called within a couple hours to reassure me and communicate the progress they had made and how much things were costing. Then I get a second call later in the day for another check-in on progress. By the time I picked up my kitty I felt elated that everything went so well. When I picked him up there was a very detailed breakdown on cost, clear after-care instructions and Dr. Laszlo Gyulassy even took me back to show me x-rays and images of his teeth. Dr. Gyulassy was so kind and empathetic and reassuring. I expected my kitty to come home feeling lethargic and reclusive from anesthesia but to my surprise my kitty was sooooo happy, hungry, loving and excited! He even kept me up half the night loving and nuzzling on me! I know he feels so much better. I am blown away at how great my experience was. I couldn't have picked a better clinic and Dr. Laszlo Gyulassy is a fantastic vet. Two thumbs way up. Read Less

We take our cat and pug here and it's always a pleasant experience. Everyone who works here is friendly and helpful and have the best interests of the animals in mind. I appreciate how they teach you how to administer pet medication if you're unsure instead of handing it to you and expecting you to know what to do. I have to note that the other pet owners and their animals waiting in the reception area for appointments have also always been very sweet and fun to talk to! It makes the experience less stressful. The vet itself is very inviting, which is unusual for a veterinary clinic! The garden is nicely landscaped and the building I believe is a renovated home with a cute fire place in the lobby. It makes going here a pleasant experience, like you're visiting friends who help your pets out and not some drab depressing place. Our little pug didn't want to leave!I highly recommend taking your pet here if you're looking for a reputable vet. Read Less

I took both of my dogs here several times when we first moved to the area. I have to admit, I wasn't crazy about the place. They were very thorough, but they were unable to make any decisions or diagnoses without several very expensive tests. I understand the desire to ensure you know what you are treating in order to treat it properly and not to contribute to things like antibiotic resistance, but it many times it seemed unnecessary. I have been to numerous vets who are able to combine their knowledge and experience with diagnostic testing to make informed decisions without costing an arm and leg. That was not my experience here. Both of the women I saw were also always referring me to specialists. Even refusing to treat things until I obtained the opinion of a specialist. One time I left with three different cards for specialists. It got to the point where I wasn't sure why I was going to see them at all. For flea prevention and vaccinations? That seemed to be the only things they could reliably provide without a referral.I prefer to go to more of a full-service vet who is comfortable diagnosing and treating a variety of conditions and performs surgeries and tests in-house. Today we had to put our beloved dog Mackie to sleep. This is that day you dread and our hearts are broken in a million pieces. But through our sadness we cannot thank the vets and staff enough for the loving, outstanding experience we've had here, especially in these last two difficult months. Dr. G's kindness, patience and expertise were over the top. There were times when I had to speak with him several times in a week and he always called back promptly and always spent the time needed to explain and answer all my questions. If I needed to bring Mackie in at the last minute, a time was always made for us that day.  When I had to bring him in the day before Thanksgiving. Dr. Smith, the visiting doctor, was very thorough and kind. He carefully went over all the previous notes, test results and x-rays before examining Mackie and took his time helping us figure out what to do next. Dr. Frank was the doctor on duty when it came time to put him to sleep and her empathy and gentleness with our little guy - and with us - were so greatly appreciated. Through it all is the staff, from the front desk to all the technicians - animal lovers through and through and lovely, kind people to boot. Since moving to San Carlos, it's a bit more of a drive to Burlingame, but how worth the extra time to visit this wonderful clinic. Read Less

I've been to many vets before and I had a hard time finding a place I was pleased/comfortable with in my area. That being said, I really cannot say enough good things about Camino Real Pet Clinic. Their place is small and they do have a lot of clients so it may be a little tough to get your pet in without calling at least a week in advance, but all of the staff here is very friendly and accommodating especially if your pet has urgent needs.I had my first visit just a few days ago and I was so happy with them that I'm sure CRPC will be my regular vet for a long, long time. The good thing about this clinic is that even though it's small, it's run by very kind people who honestly care about your pets. They don't have a 'cold' attitude from being desensitized by too many animals around them, in fact they seem to thrive off of seeing so many lovely pets come in and out of their clinic. I've been to bigger vet clinics/hospitals whose staff had that cold/uncaring attitude and while they were efficient, they didn't seem friendly or really care about making my pet comfortable or their true well-being.The doctors here are also very patient; my Westie puppy is having her 2nd UTI now so I had a lot of questions and concerns about it but Dr. Smith and Dr. Frank took my questions seriously and didn't rush me or answer in a way that made me not want to ask anymore questions (I've had experiences in the past with other vet Doctors where this was the case, and I didn't feel comfortable since they were being very cold and short). If you want to take your pet in to a place that truly cares for animals and treats your pet the way they would treat their own, Camino Real Pet Clinic is the place to go. They are professional, kind, and I truly feel as if the place is so cozy it makes you feel like you're also part of their family. They even sent a card to my house welcoming us to their practice that the staff signed! It's the little things and the personal touch that really matters. I highly recommend this place for all pet parents. Read Less

It started with Zeus three years ago. Then came Rosie shortly after and a year later RJ joined the family. We have been coming to Camino Real for all three years and never once have I felt the need to question or Google the care my dogs have received. We even stayed through Dr Conners retirement because I knew she would never retire and leave her beloved clinic to someone who wasn't equally as wonderful as she. Dr Schmidt has not let us down and Zeus, who has really sensitive skin, has been able to continue to receive amazing care as have the less problem ridden Rosie and RJ. What is also great is that Dr Schmidt doesn't question my semiholistic approach to health care for my dogs. She doesn't push me into vaccinating or boostering them (except Rabies every three years, which I totally accept) and accepts the raw food diet they receive rather than try to talk me out of it. Further, the staff gets my messages onto Dr Schmidt so that we don't have to make the trek down from San Francisco if it is unnecessary, making them so very accommodating. That's right, we come down from the city because I have utmost confidence in Camino Real and everyone who works there. I cannot more highly  recommend them to anyone looking for outstanding service, love and passion for keeping your animals happy and healthy. Read Less

I took him in to see Dr. Schmidt because it was getting to be an exhausting problem - as in he wakes up in the middle of the night (in my bed) and starts kicking the shit out of me for an hour. help! Upon seeing Dr. Schmidt, she admitted she had never seen such a case before. BUT instead of giving up on us she took these amazing extra steps which is something ive never experienced, even from a human doctor- she did online / library research for us- she showed a video of my doggy's twitching to her colleagues to gather other opinions- she contacted a neurologist for us while we were there (a phone call that probably would have cost me $100) AND after I sent in my video, showed the video to the neurologist and discussed my video after we left the clinic (another $100+)she's followed up with us several times after doing some trial and error with medicineeveryone on the staff is always so friendly to us and gentle w/ my dog - and he can be an asshole. everyone seems to know who we are after the few times we've been to the clinic, even people i've never met before. they provide doggy treats and human treats. the asian girl at reception is so sweet i mean, all this for $60? this will be mr. nibbles' forever clinic Read Less

I was looking for a new vet for my cat, who is 11 years old and decidedly "high maintenance" in that she doesn't really like strangers and generally dislikes men. She is (usually) pretty mellow and a sweetheart at home, but my husband begs to differ. Because she can be difficult, I've always dreaded going to the vet -- probably as much as she does -- because it can be quite an ordeal. When I found the high ratings for Camino Real Pet Clinic, I thought I'd give it a try.First off, this clinic is clean, well maintained, and generally airy and bright. No weird smells or odors. It has an old school, small town feel, as the office and exam rooms are all situated inside a traditional house. Very cute and charming. The staff are all down to earth and friendly, taking the time to say hello and greet you as you enter, making sure you've been helped, and generally making you feel welcome from the moment you walk through the door. I was already liking my experience.Second, Dr. Frank has such a gentle and professional touch, she somehow managed to handle my cat without her freaking out, hissing, or worse, pooping all over the place. I was shocked and happily surprised to see my cat behaving herself so well! Dr. Frank took her time to ask many questions, consider various factors that might be contributing to the problem, and then carefully examined my cat. All the while, she explained in detail what she was looking for, why, and what the possible issues could be. I felt like I was 100% informed and immediately at ease that I could trust her. This is by far what impressed me most. There was none of that dumbing down or oversimplifying of details, or dismissiveness that some vets so rudely do to their clients. After completing some tests and explaining what next steps were involved, we agreed to a treatment plan that made sense to me. At this point, I was feeling extremely satisfied with my visit so far, and confident we could address the problem my cat was having.Third...  and then the bill. I didn't want to get my hopes up too soon before paying because, as we've all seen at some point, a great visit can be instantly ruined by discovering a bill that doesn't make sense or having to fork over one's life savings. But no such disaster here! The front office assistant explained the bill in full and I was very pleased that all charges seemed fair and reasonable. All in all, I have nothing but great things to say about Camino Real Pet Clinic and especially Dr. Frank. I have found our new vet! Read Less

I had the best day today. Why? Well, because something extraordinary occurred this morning. Today, after 5 years of searching for a veterinarian who wouldn't whisk my dog into the back to perform unknown and exorbitant examinations or tests, make me feel like a neurotic headcase for being concerned, or guilt me into spending 4 times more than I felt necessary, I found one. I found THE one. I guess what they say is true. When it's right, you just know.I cannot tell you how many other clinics I've taken my pets to in the area, both for emergency care, and regular "my dog is limping and lethargic, can you fit him in?" types of situations. NO other clinic, with the exception of Feline Well Care, who is no longer open to the public, has wowed me the way Camino Real did today. From the moment I called, they were accommodating. I hadn't scheduled an appointment, yet they were able to squeeze me in the next morning. In fact, they would have taken me on the same day had I been closer and able to get my dog there in time.Dr. Frank was incredible. She took her time to really listen to the problem, which is something that I've learned from experiences with other vets to absolutely not take for granted, and she examined my nervous, trembling dog right there in the room with me. That, in and of itself, won Camino Real points in my book. I don't know about you, but whenever a vet takes my babies into the back room, and then comes back in with a $500 estimate after doing who knows what, I'm always leery. Her examination was thorough, which impressed me, and then this is what really sealed the deal, she said she wanted to treat him conservatively first, before thinking about x-rays and such. Conservatively! It's a word that I think far too many veterinarians exclude from their vocabularies. I had to restrain myself because I really wanted to hug her. For the service we received, I thought the prices were absolutely beyond reasonable. A 10-day supply of pain killers was $20 (2 pills/day, so $1/pill), and they've already worked miracles on my achy pup. The exam was $65 - again, reasonable, considering I was seen the day after I called and could have been seen the same day (though I wouldn't recommend counting on that always being the case). And a heartworm test was $38. All fine by me, considering anywhere else I would have taken him, they probably would have recommended x-rays and a full blood panel, running into several hundred dollars. Bonus, they price match online stores for Trifexis, which I'm likely going to start my dog on soon, provided his tests show him to be heartworm negative. Also, mini-candy bars at the front desk and coffee are a nice touch. If you were on the fence about whether to give Camino Real a try, do it. The staff is  wonderful, Dr. Frank is a godsend, and you can nibble on a Snickers bar while you wait. Read Less

I was taken back to be checked in and seeing ON TIME and that ALL of the patients appts, are kept within schedule. Important as well, was the pricing, that as a Single mom, did not have to break the piggy bank to care for my dog. ALL questions, doubts and concerns were answered pleasantly and my dog was VERY happy.... I am glad for the previous reviews that made me choose them, I certainly recommend the clinic. Thanks.

Read Less

Read Less
