Was referred to this place after going to Battier's for an emergency with my Pom.  I didn't have an appointment and at 10 minutes after 8 am the waiting room was already crowded.  Everyone recognized that my dog (and I) were in crisis.  The other clients made way as staff led me to a room right away where my Pom could be seen.  Her seizures were getting slower and my fears were coming true.  The doctor came in--a beautiful Asian woman wearing a cat eared headband.  She came to me trying to calm me down and asked how could she help us get through this.  I was sobbing so she asked me "Are you here for me to help you ease her pain and possibly end her life?"  I shook my head in agreement; she patted my back and went to the back to get medication and some forms.  She came in, administered some drug and possibly Valium to stop the seizures; propped Versace's head up with a small blanket so she might be a little more comfortable then went back to get the forms.  She gave me the paperwork but I forgot my glasses, so she gave me her readers, still rubbing my back to help me calm down.  I say all this to say that although my dog died a few minutes later, me and my other dog were in her (and staff's) tender care.  I had no appointment, they had no idea who I was or whether I could pay and they just helped as kindly as possible.  People like this make the world a better place.  I will definitely bring my other dog back here for care as I just moved to Camarillo not too long ago and don't have a permanent home for annual check ups and shots for my other dog.  Thanks to everyone here for their kindness.  I would highly recommend them.  I almost forgot to mention, since things happened so fast, they really could have gauged me on price and discussing money after all that could've been awkward but it was all handled so well and the price was very affordable.  THANK YOU. We moved to Camarillo while looking for a home and found Dr. Chong.  She really cares about her animal patients, as well as their parents.  Sadly, we had to put our precious Coco down.  Dr. Chong was caring and compassionate.  We really appreciated her honesty and the care we received from her and her staff.  During this difficult time, she made it a little more bearable.  We found a home in Simi Valley, but drive to Camarillo to take our senior dog, Buster, to Dr. Chong.  It is worth the drive. I love Dr. Chong!!! We've been through some tough doggy issues over the years and Dr. Chong is always thorough and compassionate. Over the last 9 years, we've had 3 dogs in her care starting from their first puppy well visits through terminal illnesses. Dr. Chong shows wonderful love and compassion for all the animals in her care. Our 5 (yes, FIVE) dogs loved her and greeted her with wagged tails. When it came time to putting our golden retriever, Maya, to sleep, she was a welcome and trusted friend, and stayed with us until we were ready to leave. I was a weepy mess, but she never hurried us or left our sides. She was saying goodbye to Maya too, in her own way. I will be forever grateful to her and her office staff. After reading all the other reviews, I couldn't think what more I could possibly add, and altho I don't have anything NEW to add, I still had to write my review.  Dr Chong is AMAZING!  We have 2 cats, had been to many other vets until we finally found our vet in Dr Chong.  In fact one vet refused to see my Calico any more, just the other cat, because he said she was too hard to control.  I warned Dr Chong, but she must have thought I was nuts because she NEVER had any issues working with my fiesty Calico.  She is so kind and caring and I think the animals just feel safe with her.  Unlike the other vets we saw, she has never charged us for a follow up visit because I think she truly cares how the animals are doing and wants to see them again to be sure all is well.  I can only say good things about this wonderful Vet Hospital! It's been four years since I got my fantastic little dog, Bella, a  terrier-beagle.  I'm a first-time dog owner and, until last year, one who wasn't sure which veterinarian was best for us.  I've been through three others.  These doctors were good, but they weren't Dr. Chong.  I heard about the doc while I was visiting the Camarillo dog park (on the west end--Springville, I think it's called).  I brought Bella to see Doctor Chong last year, and then again just today.  The moment Bella enters the room, Dr. Chong kneels and greets her.  Bella licks Dr. Chong's face.  Bella's tail is wagging.  I'm not sure, but I think Dr. Chong's coccyx is wagging, a little.  Bella is afforded the time necessary to feel loved before the examination begins, even though the office is busy, and time is of the essence.  Dr. Chong is efficient--but not too "rushy" about all of this.  And that's great, because I  think I'm more stressed out than Bella during these visits.  Chief among my compliments is how she blends necessary sternness with exceptional compassion.  The doctor handles Bella with firm but loving care--sometimes sticking her with a needle, of course--while I hold my breath, hoping my dog isn't feeling too oppressed (I'm a big wuss when it comes to "tough love").  Meanwhile, Doc is talking to me casually, easing the tension.  Her skills with canine pets transfer over to humans.  She's handling me, too.  No, she doesn't put a muzzle on me.  Instead (in this one instance), she slides open the back door of the examining room, and brings in her own dog.  She lets our dogs mingle, while telling me about hers.  She's making me feel like part of the family, to a degree.  It's uncalled for, but it sure is appreciated.  I'm all for unconventional.  Yay unconventional.  I HATE Bella's and my yearly visit to the vet.   We don't want to go.  But at least we get to see Dr. Chong.  You will fall in love with this professional.  She's beautiful inside and out. Dr Chong is the best. She is very caring and takes the time to really examine your pet and talk to the owner. I don't understand Yelp. I was reading the 'not recommended' reviews...and I don't understand why they are not posted. I think they are all helpful...Anyway, I took my 15 year old cat in today who was literally almost dead from an obstruction (urinary) He just hides his pain so well...I had taken him to another hospital yesterday (which was a Sunday and this other place was the only one open) and the care and attention I received was like night and day. Cam Vet Hosp = A+ !!! Dr. Chong was very attentive. Took lots of time taking a complete list of symptoms, and history both. The other place in Oxnard I went to kept sending the technician in to relay everything and the Vet literally spent like 3 minutes with me, catheterized him, (and then removed Cath) and brought him back out to me with a Prescription of Antibiotics. The other clinic also left big globs of whatever lubrication gel they used on him, and when he tried to use his kitty box later on, ended up with big globs kitty-litter in gel stuck to his bottom...perfect thing for trying to heal an obstruction, right? (I sat him in some warm water about 1.5" and he liked that...)  I am disabled and on a very low fixed income, so money for Vet care is always an issue if one of my loved ones gets sick...There is nothing worse that wanting care for a loved one, and not being able to afford it literally; We (the kids and I) were all in tears, and when the 1st vet found out I had no money...that was it. Took every penny i had in my account as quick as they could, but didn't give me any information on what condition he had, followup care, what to expect, if there was anything I could do to help him, or anything.But Dr. Chong at Camarillo Veterinary Hospital was completely opposite. In fact, she never even discussed the money until she had THOROUGHLY examined him, took his history, etc...then was very patient and assisted in the decision making process with helpful information. My man is staying over night for a day or two...so I'll update in the end...but I already know how sick he was...his temperature had already DROPPED to about 91 ...so we'll see if he gets saved or not. He's also very old at 15. Darn cat. He's part of the family...he's been on long trips with us out of state...and well, he's not a normal cat that's all. Whether he lives or dies, I am very appreciative of the loving care he received here at Camarillo Veterinary Hospital. No, the pictures aren't helpful, sorry. But the one on the left of the building, ...it "could" be if they widened the shot...like from across the street maybe, I would make it easier to spot. Dr Chong is the most compassionate Vet we have ever been to. Because of our dog's anxiety to go into the vet, she treated our St Bernard in the back of our Yukon. She brought all her equipment to the car and sat in the back with our sweet dog. She called the next day (Sunday) with the test results and unfortunately, as we pretty much knew, she would have to be put down. But instead of us having to wait until Monday, she said to bring her down then (Sunday) and she would take care of it, so she wouldn't suffer any longer. Again, she sat in the back of our Yukon with us and took care of what needed to be done. She explained everything in detail and we could tell she felt as bad as we did. She kissed our sweet dog on the head and spoke so kindly to her - as if it were her own dog. She gave us the all time we needed to say our goodbyes. We were so grateful for her compassion and how humanely our Hilde was treated and taken care of. She even shaved some of her hair off and put it in a couple of small draw string bags for us to keep. Dr. Chong is an intelligent, highly professional vet who puts your pet's care and well being first. We've tried many vets in the greater LA / Ventura County area with our three dogs over nearly 14 years and located a few good ones - she is one of the best. The location and building aren't fancy but the quality of care is outstanding and a very good value for the money. At different times our dogs have required surgery to remove bladder stones. With Dr. Chong, our dog recovered much more quickly and the procedure cost less. What sets her practice apart is that other vets, while professional and caring, often aim to identify and bill for as many line items and up sells as they can. You know, that same feeling you get at a car repair shop. Dr. Chong's practice provides the same products and services but runs like the home town clinic it is. For chronic conditions with our older pets she carefully explained a range of options and advised starting with treatments that were gentle to our pet so we could evaluate the response before more dramatic and expensive options.
