I have been here twice and both times they show it is just about money. She doesn't care about your pet. Sent me home paying $300 with 3 different kinds of medications for my cat and the medicine made her worse! I called around comparing prices and this place charges almost double for the medication. She didn't provide me with any reasoning for why my cat was so sick, just pumped her with a bunch of meds. I even got charged $28 for them to give her a shot of water. Thanks ladies. Read Less

I don't usually write Yelp reviews but this one I had to I think other people who go here or are wanting to go here needs to know this incident that happened to my dog who is my baby! I used to really like this place for my dog I would go all the way from Ventura to Camerllio to get him to a good place. But my last experience with them has been the most horrifying to me and my dog. I took him in during their walk-in hours from 3:30 to 5 PM. The clinic was a little crowded and they were trying to help everyone. My dog was supposed to get 2 vaccinations and they took him back to do so. After, they brought him back and we were waiting for to pay for the vaccines in the mean time the nurse came out again and asked to take my dog back again. After a little while I was asked to go in the back and they told me there was a mistake made and my dog was given a dose of Telazol ( mixture of NMDA receptor antagonist and a benzodiazepine, commonly used to anesthetize animals for surgical procedures) instead of one of the vaccines. Not only that the dose that was given to him was twice the high dose for his weight. Just to see him in that state with his eyes wide open tongue sticking out and mouth drooling with uncontrollable saliva and the head bobbing from left to right is the image I will never be able to take out of my head. I cried for that whole day and cried myself to sleep that night since he was not home with me. They offered me a ride to the emergency (VMSG) and paid for all the expenses but still that does not negate the emotional stress that my dog and myself went through. It was not a small mistake I just keep thinking what if it was a medication they use to put dogs down instead. At VMSG they gave reversal agent for the benzodiazepine part of the medication and gave him fluids to flush the remaining medication out and watch him for 24 hours for any neurologic, respiratory or cardiac depression. He was discharge from VMSG the next day and he is fine now but just because he is fine does not negate the neglect with which my dog was handled. My only suggestion is if your staff cannot handle the load of walk-in and busy environment don't keep the walk-in hours do everything by appointment set 10-15 minutes appointments for vaccines and 20-30 minutes for medical visits. Dr Hanser saved my dog's life when he was a puppy when the irresponsible breeder wanted to have him put down. Dr Hanser said she would not put him down right then & that she wanted to monitor his condition for the first 24 hours. Stitch, our pug, made a full recovery thanks to Dr Hanser's compassion & her staffs' amazing care. I'm so glad I found this vet! The whole staff is great and the doctors are so friendly. They educate me and covered every aspect of having a new puppy. I also have an adult dog and she has lots of skin problems. All the medications the dr prescribed her too has worked great. I've been to other vets where nothing they prescribed works. I own a three year old very shy rescue dog and took him to the groomers for the first time on Tuesday May 5th. He kept me up all night that evening from shaking his head, and scratching his ear. He wouldn't let me touch his ears and I could tell he was uncomfortable. He had never shown these signs before so I was pretty sure it was correlated with his first trip to the groomers. I had taken him to one Vet appointment in the area that the rescue group recommended for a check up, but they were closed on Wednesdays. That evening since I was up in the middle of the night and trying to figure out what my plan would be for the next day, I found Central Avenue Animal Clinic on Yelp and read good reviews. I was hoping I could get an appointment if I called in the morning. I called at 8:10am (they opened at 8am) and explained my situation to Taffnie and she got me in for a 10:30am same day appointment. She was very pleasant on the phone and understanding of my situation. I arrived at about 10:19am and was in a room within minutes. All the staff was absolutely wonderful from Taffnie to Lupe and of course Dr. Hanser who was extremely patient, warm and understanding to my dog Gunther who was still very afraid of strangers having a history of abuse before I rescued him. He was given medication because he had a pretty bad ear infection. Apparently he has very sensitive ears. Dr. Hanser thought it was best to administer the treatment in the office rather than sending me home with ear drops because my dog would barely let me touch his ears and it was better that the vet tech and doctor did this. I was so appreciative of this because I knew it would be done right. My dog also received an ear wash. I was out of there by 11:15am. I had a follow up two weeks later and once again received the same warm, prompt and courteous service. My dog received one more dose of medication because the infection was not quite gone, yet it was still a very quick visit. Dr. Hanser was just as kind, if not even more. She is very knowledgeable and caring. I am making this my permanent clinic for my dog because he is in great hands and both my experiences have been absolutely wonderful! Read Less

I took my dog in for a thorough ear cleaning post a severe infection with a lot of bloody drainage treated him for 14 days with a PO antibiotic keflex an ointment and a solution for 14 days after careful monitoring  and continued treatment with the ointment and solutions for 1 additional week. Noted no new fresh blood or signs of infection. I took my dog to the vet clinic and requested on the phone and upon dropping him off, for  a thorough ear cleaning to the left ear to remove and evacuate the dry blood upon picking him up I noted that the dried blood was still very much prevalent and inform the representative for the veterinary clinic that I was not happy with the cleaning I was not offered a repeat cleaning of the ear and I'm very unhappy with the service provided I have emailed the clinic as of today and requested a follow up by the owner or veterinarian in charge and Iam awaiting that response and will update as appropriate I hope that they will follow through. We all want what's best for our pets that is my primary reason for taking him to the vet for a ear cleaning when I could have simply going to Petsmart or Petco for $35 and had the thing done we love our dog he is a part of our family we want him cared for as we would care for him that's why I didn't have a problem with spending almost $100 for a bath and nail clipping and I was hoping an ear cleaning. wonderful veterinary clinic.  Dr. Peck and Dr. Hanser cared for my cat while recovering from diabetes.  Dr. Peck put him on Lantus insulin and he went into remission in about a week's time.  he made a complete recovery.  we put him on a Fancy Feast wet diet which helped him recover and do not give any dry food. Dr. Hanser is kind, caring, and patient. She attentively listened to my concerns and treated my senior dog gently and lovingly. She is thorough and extremely knowledgeable and takes her time. I found this vet clinic thru yelp and I am pleased to say I have finally found a vet for my dog. Dr. Hanser was very gentle with my anxious, furry toddler, Maximus. She always asked me if I had and concerns or questions throughout the exam. You know how some doctors throw off that "I'm way better than you" vibe? Dr. Hanser was not like that at all. Excellent clinic with knowledgeable and compassionate staff.  Have been coming here for 20+ years with multiple dogs and cats.  Always a very pleasant experience without pressures, upsells, etc ... When they present you with different treatment options, the staff is always very honest about whether or not they think your pet actually needs certain services so you can make an informed decision.  Most recently, we have been taking our new puppy here for shots, exam and neutering -- all with excellent treatment and service. Took my new puppy for her first visit and was able to get an appointment the SAME DAY! The receptionist and all of the techs were very friendly and sensitive to it being the puppy's first visit. Dr. Hanser was very friendly and spent a lot of time with me making sure I knew all of the things that I needed to know. Like many pet owners, you want the very, very best for your dog! Well....when the local pet store worker referred me to Central Ave Clinic, I found the very best vet for my pet.  The staff was very professional, which was a huge PLUS.  I've been to many vets, from Thousand Oaks to Ventura, and I've always felt pressured to BUY, BUY, BUY -- this office didn't make me feel pressured to do any of that.  They truely focused on my pet and his current needs.  As humans, would you see your PCP and ask for a series of tests?? I think not! So why would you want your dog to go through it? The vet was extremely amazing with my dog.  She took the time to answer ALL my ?s, and really handled with C A R E.  I can't say enough good things about this office.  OH -- the prices are reasonal.  I left spending ~100 for exam and treatment -- compared to previous offices, I would spend somewhere close to ~150.  I truly am impressed with this office.  I really hope they do not change their ways. Went for a flea and tick refill today and found out they wouldn't give me anything until I did a bloodwork test. I tried talking to Dr Hancer but never recieved a phone call back. Her staff was very un professional. I then called several other vet offices to see if it was standard practice and realized that they were scamming me. It is a shame because I liked Dr Hancer but when your office staff acts corrupt it reflects on your business. I am now looking for a new vet office. Read Less

This clinic is not your typical clinic. When you walk in you are immedialtely acknowledged as family. You leave your animal there with peace of mind knowing that it is recieving the best care possible. The clinic is always clean but doesn't fell instituional. From the office staff to the vet I feel at ease and more importantly so does my animal.
