I have a pug/lhasa mix. She is 14 and has had some eye issues causing her to lose her sight. Additionally she had a tumor on her eyelid. I was referred to Dr. Berling by my vet. She has been incredibly attentive, patient, conservative, hopeful with treating my pup. I like the staff because they all know what is happening and I never have felt uninformed. Dr. Berling has made sure that Izzi is comfortable through all of her exams and surgery. The greatest part of all of this is that now I have a dog that can see better and is not afraid to go outside at night.

I've been trying to get a call back on my Boston Terrier since our first visit a few weeks ago. I should have known there was a potential issue when they didn't have him on file with any information even though my husband had been in with him just 2-3 months at the most prior to our visit, so we essentially paid 2x for the consultation. I was told by the vet that she would research a potential procedure for him in Sacramento and let me know if it was viable. After a week of not hearing back, I called and left a message. No response. After another 2 weeks, I called and spoke to the receptionist, who sounded concerned/promising about getting a call back. No response. I am on my 3rd message and trying to be as patient as possible. At this point, I don't trust the service and so will not be going forward with cataract surgery for him here. So disappointing as the staff and vet seemed very thoughtful and experienced.

I had to wait more than a week to see the Vet and I came a 10 Mins before the appointment but the Vet had an emergency surgery that I waited an hr then finally saw the Vet. for 10 mins. She didn't find anything in my dogs eyes even they used microscopes. Very Expensive.. Just seeing the Vet, it costs me almost $200.00 and the meds are very expensive.. visited this place 6 times and I spent almost $1,200.00 including meds and exam fees.

Dr. Burling is the BEST. My dear pup first had glaucoma back in 2010. Thanks to Dr. Burling's expertise and loving care, my dog lived a very good life. She had lost her sight in one eye but the doctor persevered and helped to keep her good eye strong for the next 6 years. Sadly she died last month from a ruptured tumor but she still had her sight. We loved our visits to see the doc. I will miss our appointments:(

I've only been here once but the staff and doctor were very helpful. I brought a Guinea Pig (of all things) in for an eye problem. Her issue was taken very seriously and she was given a great deal of attention while there. The doctor was professional, courteous and friendly. Everything was explained, including treatments and prices, in a manner that was easy to understand. It was an expensive visit but my feeling is you can't really complain about price when visiting a specialist of any kind (animal or human). These people wouldn't be in this business if they didn't love animals. Highly recommended.

This review is for Dr. Fritz and the rest of the staff at Animal Eye Specialists. My golden retriever had an lower eyelid tumor that has grown over the past year. It didn't seem to bother him much until recently when we discovered more discharge from his left eye and constant rubbing which would cause the tumor to tear and bleed. Dr. Fritz was very thorough with his explanation and gave me options on removing the tumor. I expressed my concerns over sedation since my golden has entered his golden years and the risk factors given his age. The staff were very compassionate and ensured my golden would get exceptional care. My boy is home now recovering from the procedure. He's eating well and doing his usual routine, despite being a little groggy. Although I haven't had a chance to meet Dr. Burling yet, I wanted to express my gratitude for having an exceptional Physician to cover while on vacation and wonderful staff. Especially sending kind regards to the Vet tech (I'm sorry I'm terrible with names) who suggested removing the extra skin tag from his lip. Thank you!!!

Dr Burling and her staff are great. I recently had to take our five year old female in. She was born with a condition that cause her eyelids to turn in, versus out. Never bothered her before but recently noticed would looked like a scratch/blister on her eye. Made an appointment with Dr Burling right away. Went down, had her checked out and scheduled survey to fix her eyelids. Two weeks later, full recovery and her eyes look great! Dr Burling and her staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I would not hesitate to bring any of my animals here.

Never have I had such a terrible experience going to vet before. This review is NOT for Dr. Burling. This review is for her front office receptionist. To be honest, she almost seem very racist. If you are not white, you should NOT go here, because they will be very rude to you. Her tone towards me was very cold; I felt rushed and talked down upon.I asked a simple question why is my bill higher, then my original estimate, and the lady quickly got defensive and said "Everything is on the paper. The doctor wrote you a summary of what was done at the office. It's in the bag and I am only here to collect your payment. You can read it for yourself." If a simple question like this she can not handle without being calm and compassionate, please do not work at a doctor's office. Taking a day off from work and having to hear your dog will have to get her eye removed is heartbreaking enough. BUT on top of this, I had to deal will such low life customer service for $300 is not worth it. Dr. Burling is complete opposite of this, but if she continues to have her patients be treated this way, then best of luck to the office.

Traveled all the way from Brentwood to see Dr. Burling (nothing but the best for my baby). I was impressed with the Dr. She's booked out about a month, sure sign of a great doctor !!! My dogs eye had improved since I made the appointment but I still wanted Dr. Burling's professional opinion and to make sure my dogs general vet didn't miss any thing. She didn't push any unnecessary prescriptions or treatment which I always appreciate. Since I traveled 3 hours round trip to see her I asked her if my dogs eye does get any worse, if I can just send her a pic via email and she let me know if its something I should bring her back for or not and she was completely fine with that. Overall a great experience and most of all my baby's eye is just fine =)

Dr. Burling and her staff are excellent; they were able to see my dog in an emergency and got her into surgery with in 48 hours, resulting in saving one of her eyes. The entire staff is caring and supportive of the pets and owners needs. Would definitely recommend Animal Eye Specialists if your dog or cat has a specific eye concern. My puppy was scratched by a cat at around 10pm on a Friday night, so we rushed him to the emergency room where they were able to triage, clean the eye, and get him on antibiotics and painkillers. After a sleepless night, his eye was looking even worse and my dad (a veterinarian) and I knew that he needed to see a specialist immediately. We left a message on the Animal Eye Specialists emergency number and I was terrified that we would not hear back because it was a Saturday morning. Turns out there was no need for me to worry, Dr. Burling called back within 15 minutes and met us at the office less than an hour later. We were a mess when we showed up to see her, sleep deprived, worried, and quite upset. Then Dr. Burling began talking to us and looking at my dog's eye and I immediately felt better; I knew he was getting the best care possible. She quickly assessed that he needed surgery, and the sooner it happened, the better. So not only did she come in on a Saturday morning, but she then scheduled his surgery for later that afternoon. It went beautifully and fortunately my little guy didn't lose any vision. He's recovering quickly and I can't even fully express my gratitude to Dr. Burling for all that she has done. When I got worried about some changes in his eye as recovery progressed, her office squeezed me in that same afternoon. If anyone is in need of an eye specialist, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Burling -- her talents and compassion saved my puppy's eye!

I just got home and felt the extreme need to type out a 5 star review for Animal Eye Specialist and their veterinarians and staff! From the appointment made over the phone, to a friendly reminder of our appointment, to walking into a immaculately well kept office, to filling out paperwork, and being seen by ophthalmologist Dr. McCallum; everything A to Z could only be rated 5 stars!! I braced myself for the worst experience expected, because I just have bad luck with greedy or neglectful vets/staff. I was also super anxious about having my young pup (1.5 years old) diagnosed with a cataract in her left eye (one that our general vet overlooked by the way...). I was immediately put at ease as soon as Dr. McCallum came in because his demeanor was totally different! Very approachable and friendly, open to all questions and concerns! I fired question after question and he always answered without skipping a beat. And they weren't just some maybe-i-don't-know-could-be answers. He really knows his stuff! I wish he was also a general vet because maybe I'd live at his office. Jk, but it'd be nice to work there! Also, we had a wonderful vet tech that assisted the doctor (sorry we didn't catch your name!) who was friendly, helpful, and REALLY pretty! :) The cost was exactly what they quoted over the phone. Exam took about an hour, but that's cause I had an endless stream of questions. I felt the whole experience went really quick and I got ALL my answers. Will definitely be back for our check up in six months! Until then!

Dr Burling is top-notch. I wish she was my doctor. I called the office after-hours/emergency line on a Sunday morning when my dog's eye was looking pretty bad. Even though Dr. Burling was on vacation and out of town she called me back and was able to diagnose the problem over the phone. Since she was out of town she recommend we go to United Animal Emergency Clinic in Campbell (next door to her office). We did and they did a great job getting my dog in the right direction ( after Adobe Hospital on Los Altos completely mis-diagnosed the problem). We then saw Dr Burling as a follow- up appointment. She recommend that my dog have a minor surgery to fully correct the problem. He had the surgery and is doing great now. Dr Burling and the entire staff have been such a pleasure to deal with. You can just tell Dr Burling loves what she does and really cares about animals. She is a perfectionist! I think their prices are very fair. Heck, they are even installing solar panels, so when you go here you are supporting a green business. Really doesn't get better than this. The San Jose area is lucky to have Animal Eye Specialists!

The entire staff both in the front office and the Dr. and assistants are great! Very professional and clean office/ exam rooms. You can tell the staff cares about the health of your pet. They have been very informative, helpful and caring. Our Sphynx has been having a problem with a corneal sequestreum (infected and perforated). Rather than have the major surgery (Conjunctival Graft/Flap SP) which is pretty expensive we opted for the Third Eyelid Flap surgery. With this procedure they sew the inner eyelid up and hope that the natural protection and healing will greatly improve her situation. And if successful (fingers crossed) she will have her eyesight back. With the Conjuctival Graft she would lose partial sight in the area of the flap. Cats have 3 eyelids which we didn't know before all of this and after 3 weeks we hope to get some good news. We are giving her antibiotics and drops everyday. I highly recommend this practice and we are very pleased with the care they are giving our cat.What I learned is if your pet has an eye problem, get them to Animal Eye Specialist ASAP. They have drop off appointments and the doctor actually speaks to you at pick up! How awesome is that. My cat has an ongoing condition called eosinophilic keratitis and this time I waited longer than I should've to treat it. I dropped my cat off bright and early and picked her up before closing. By the following day her eye improved so much. The staff here are very professional and the hospital reception area is very clean :) can't complain one bit.

I've been trying to get a call back on my Boston Terrier since our first visit a few weeks ago. I should have known there was a potential issue when they didn't have him on file with any information even though my husband had been in with him just 2-3 months at the most prior to our visit, so we essentially paid 2x for the consultation. I was told by the vet that she would research a potential procedure for him in Sacramento and let me know if it was viable. After a week of not hearing back, I called and left a message. No response. After another 2 weeks, I called and spoke to the receptionist, who sounded concerned/promising about getting a call back. No response. I am on my 3rd message and trying to be as patient as possible. At this point, I don't trust the service and so will not be going forward with cataract surgery for him here. So disappointing as the staff and vet seemed very thoughtful and experienced.

I brought my dogs to this place because of the my dogs' eyes. I had to wait more than a week to see the Vet and I came a 10 Mins before the appointment but the Vet had an emergency surgery that I waited an hr then finally saw the Vet. for 10 mins. She didn't find anything in my dogs eyes even they used microscopes. Very Expensive.. Just seeing the Vet, it costs me almost $200.00 and the meds are very expensive.. visited this place 6 times and I spent almost $1,200.00 including meds and exam fees.

Dr. Burling is the BEST. My dear pup first had glaucoma back in 2010. Thanks to Dr. Burling's expertise and loving care, my dog lived a very good life. She had lost her sight in one eye but the doctor persevered and helped to keep her good eye strong for the next 6 years. Sadly she died last month from a ruptured tumor but she still had her sight. We loved our visits to see the doc. I will miss our appointments:(

I've only been here once but the staff and doctor were very helpful. I brought a Guinea Pig (of all things) in for an eye problem. Her issue was taken very seriously and she was given a great deal of attention while there. The doctor was professional, courteous and friendly. Everything was explained, including treatments and prices, in a manner that was easy to understand. It was an expensive visit but my feeling is you can't really complain about price when visiting a specialist of any kind (animal or human). These people wouldn't be in this business if they didn't love animals. Highly recommended.

This review is for Dr. Fritz and the rest of the staff at Animal Eye Specialists. My golden retriever had an lower eyelid tumor that has grown over the past year. It didn't seem to bother him much until recently when we discovered more discharge from his left eye and constant rubbing which would cause the tumor to tear and bleed. Dr. Fritz was very thorough with his explanation and gave me options on removing the tumor. I expressed my concerns over sedation since my golden has entered his golden years and the risk factors given his age. The staff were very compassionate and ensured my golden would get exceptional care. My boy is home now recovering from the procedure. He's eating well and doing his usual routine, despite being a little groggy. Although I haven't had a chance to meet Dr. Burling yet, I wanted to express my gratitude for having an exceptional Physician to cover while on vacation and wonderful staff. Especially sending kind regards to the Vet tech (I'm sorry I'm terrible with names) who suggested removing the extra skin tag from his lip. Thank you!!!

Dr Burling and her staff are great. I recently had to take our five year old female in. She was born with a condition that cause her eyelids to turn in, versus out. Never bothered her before but recently noticed would looked like a scratch/blister on her eye. Made an appointment with Dr Burling right away. Went down, had her checked out and scheduled survey to fix her eyelids. Two weeks later, full recovery and her eyes look great! Dr Burling and her staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I would not hesitate to bring any of my animals here.

Dr. Burling saved my juvenile dog's eye when he developed a severe cataract. We can't thank her enough. Now our 5-year-old dog will have decent vision for the rest of his life.

Never have I had such a terrible experience going to vet before. This review is NOT for Dr. Burling. This review is for her front office receptionist. To be honest, she almost seem very racist. If you are not white, you should NOT go here, because they will be very rude to you. Her tone towards me was very cold; I felt rushed and talked down upon.I asked a simple question why is my bill higher, then my original estimate, and the lady quickly got defensive and said "Everything is on the paper. The doctor wrote you a summary of what was done at the office. It's in the bag and I am only here to collect your payment. You can read it for yourself." If a simple question like this she can not handle without being calm and compassionate, please do not work at a doctor's office. Taking a day off from work and having to hear your dog will have to get her eye removed is heartbreaking enough. BUT on top of this, I had to deal will such low life customer service for $300 is not worth it. Dr. Burling is complete opposite of this, but if she continues to have her patients be treated this way, then best of luck to the office.

Traveled all the way from Brentwood to see Dr. Burling (nothing but the best for my baby). I was impressed with the Dr. She's booked out about a month, sure sign of a great doctor !!! My dogs eye had improved since I made the appointment but I still wanted Dr. Burling's professional opinion and to make sure my dogs general vet didn't miss any thing. She didn't push any unnecessary prescriptions or treatment which I always appreciate. Since I traveled 3 hours round trip to see her I asked her if my dogs eye does get any worse, if I can just send her a pic via email and she let me know if its something I should bring her back for or not and she was completely fine with that. Overall a great experience and most of all my baby's eye is just fine =)

Dr. Burling and her staff are excellent; they were able to see my dog in an emergency and got her into surgery with in 48 hours, resulting in saving one of her eyes. The entire staff is caring and supportive of the pets and owners needs. Would definitely recommend Animal Eye Specialists if your dog or cat has a specific eye concern. My puppy was scratched by a cat at around 10pm on a Friday night, so we rushed him to the emergency room where they were able to triage, clean the eye, and get him on antibiotics and painkillers. After a sleepless night, his eye was looking even worse and my dad (a veterinarian) and I knew that he needed to see a specialist immediately. We left a message on the Animal Eye Specialists emergency number and I was terrified that we would not hear back because it was a Saturday morning. Turns out there was no need for me to worry, Dr. Burling called back within 15 minutes and met us at the office less than an hour later. We were a mess when we showed up to see her, sleep deprived, worried, and quite upset. Then Dr. Burling began talking to us and looking at my dog's eye and I immediately felt better; I knew he was getting the best care possible. She quickly assessed that he needed surgery, and the sooner it happened, the better. So not only did she come in on a Saturday morning, but she then scheduled his surgery for later that afternoon. It went beautifully and fortunately my little guy didn't lose any vision. He's recovering quickly and I can't even fully express my gratitude to Dr. Burling for all that she has done. When I got worried about some changes in his eye as recovery progressed, her office squeezed me in that same afternoon. If anyone is in need of an eye specialist, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Burling -- her talents and compassion saved my puppy's eye!

I just got home and felt the extreme need to type out a 5 star review for Animal Eye Specialist and their veterinarians and staff! From the appointment made over the phone, to a friendly reminder of our appointment, to walking into a immaculately well kept office, to filling out paperwork, and being seen by ophthalmologist Dr. McCallum; everything A to Z could only be rated 5 stars!! I braced myself for the worst experience expected, because I just have bad luck with greedy or neglectful vets/staff. I was also super anxious about having my young pup (1.5 years old) diagnosed with a cataract in her left eye (one that our general vet overlooked by the way...). I was immediately put at ease as soon as Dr. McCallum came in because his demeanor was totally different! Very approachable and friendly, open to all questions and concerns! I fired question after question and he always answered without skipping a beat. And they weren't just some maybe-i-don't-know-could-be answers. He really knows his stuff! I wish he was also a general vet because maybe I'd live at his office. Jk, but it'd be nice to work there! Also, we had a wonderful vet tech that assisted the doctor (sorry we didn't catch your name!) who was friendly, helpful, and REALLY pretty! :) The cost was exactly what they quoted over the phone. Exam took about an hour, but that's cause I had an endless stream of questions. I felt the whole experience went really quick and I got ALL my answers. Will definitely be back for our check up in six months! Until then!

Dr Burling is top-notch. I wish she was my doctor. I called the office after-hours/emergency line on a Sunday morning when my dog's eye was looking pretty bad. Even though Dr. Burling was on vacation and out of town she called me back and was able to diagnose the problem over the phone. Since she was out of town she recommend we go to United Animal Emergency Clinic in Campbell (next door to her office). We did and they did a great job getting my dog in the right direction ( after Adobe Hospital on Los Altos completely mis-diagnosed the problem). We then saw Dr Burling as a follow- up appointment. She recommend that my dog have a minor surgery to fully correct the problem. He had the surgery and is doing great now. Dr Burling and the entire staff have been such a pleasure to deal with. You can just tell Dr Burling loves what she does and really cares about animals. She is a perfectionist! I think their prices are very fair. Heck, they are even installing solar panels, so when you go here you are supporting a green business. Really doesn't get better than this. The San Jose area is lucky to have Animal Eye Specialists!

The entire staff both in the front office and the Dr. and assistants are great! Very professional and clean office/ exam rooms. You can tell the staff cares about the health of your pet. They have been very informative, helpful and caring. Our Sphynx has been having a problem with a corneal sequestreum (infected and perforated). Rather than have the major surgery (Conjunctival Graft/Flap SP) which is pretty expensive we opted for the Third Eyelid Flap surgery. With this procedure they sew the inner eyelid up and hope that the natural protection and healing will greatly improve her situation. And if successful (fingers crossed) she will have her eyesight back. With the Conjuctival Graft she would lose partial sight in the area of the flap. Cats have 3 eyelids which we didn't know before all of this and after 3 weeks we hope to get some good news. We are giving her antibiotics and drops everyday. I highly recommend this practice and we are very pleased with the care they are giving our cat.What I learned is if your pet has an eye problem, get them to Animal Eye Specialist ASAP. They have drop off appointments and the doctor actually speaks to you at pick up! How awesome is that. My cat has an ongoing condition called eosinophilic keratitis and this time I waited longer than I should've to treat it. I dropped my cat off bright and early and picked her up before closing. By the following day her eye improved so much. The staff here are very professional and the hospital reception area is very clean :) can't complain one bit.
