At first we liked them, but after a couple visits we realized that the vets were not actually examining our dogs. Two different vets did this on two different visits. $45 for them to spend 45 seconds listening with a stethoscope. No physical exam at all. We will pay more to go to a vet that actually does the examination part of the physical. They are the cheapest vet around, but you get what you pay for. Staff is nice. Read Less

I have used Dr. Ueno and Kirkwood Animal Hospital for over 35 years now. I would never even think of taking any of my animals anywhere else. They treat you like family there, and love your animals as much as you do. All of the staff are wonderful and care for your pets as if they where their own. I stumbled upon Kirkwood Animal Hospital in a unique way. On a long haul flight from London to San Francisco I was seated next to a vet and began talking to him about a Westie puppy I would soon be picking up. He told me that he worked for Kirkwood many years ago and it remains one of his favorite places to ever have worked. He told me the staff were phenomenal and the vets were some of the best. I took a leap of faith and called them to schedule my puppy for his first appointment a few weeks later. I was booked in with Dr. Lim and I could not have been happier. The kind vet I met on the plane was spot on with his assessment. The staff are so welcoming and kind. I can't speak on the other vets since I haven't dealt with them but Dr. Lim is incredible. He is gentle and soft spoken. My Westie actually gets excited to go and see him! They stay on top of my dogs health and are understanding of my endless questions as a first time dog owner. No only are they helpful and kind, but Kirkwood Animal Hospital is very affordable compared to other places in the area. I am so glad I made the decision to go with Kirkwood! Read Less

Very small place, but the staff and vets are amazing. When we had to relocate suddenly, our dog was scheduled for a cystotomy on the East Coast, and we had to rapidly change plans. Kirkwood was recommended by a trusted friend out here, and they were amazing. We scheduled his surgery for our first week in California, had his records transferred and everything went perfectly to plan; they were so accommodating. We also have a cat with kidney disease who receives regular care, and they're just wonderful to her.We were fanatically loyal to our old vet in Pennsylvania, but Kirkwood has done a superlative job caring for our animals since the moment we got here. What we look for in a veterinary practice is the sense that they love and care for our pets as if they were their own, and that is what we found... it still surprises me that not every animal hospital is that way.I wish that they had a larger facility and the ability to keep animals overnight... those are two things we miss, but everyone here is so great that my review remains five stars. Our dog has been seen by Dr. Lim on several occasions and it's always a great experience. Milo is a 42 lb Shepherd mix and can sometimes be a bit timid when he's at he vet. I like how he's never forced to go on the table, but can hang around on the ground where he's more comfortable to be examined. Dr. Lim is very compassionate and we always feel like he's got Milo's best interest in mind. He's also patient with questions so if you're a protective dog mom like me with your babies it's nice when the doc is supportive. Milo's had his share of health issues and we've had blood work, urinalysis, urine cultures, as well as a Cushings test done. Most of the standard ones can be done on site with a really fast turnaround time for results, which is awesome. We all know how hard waiting is! Others that need to be sent out take a bit longer, but we always get notified as soon as they're in. The ladies at the front reception are so friendly and helpful, even when it gets busy. They really make you feel welcome here. On top of that, they even have some non-invasive options for health and wellbeing like an animal chiropractor who travels weekly to the clinic! There are two separate entrances, one side for cats and the other for dogs which is nice especially for the kitties who gets freaked out and stressed when going to to vet. We have been with the the staff and doctors at Kirkwood for over 20 years. We love them. Dr ueno, dr Kim and dr hsu are all about the animals.  They are also about giving the humans all the information they need to make an informed decision but never pressure you into anything you do not chose to do. The office staff are also terrific. They will try their best to accommodate your schedule when you call to make an appointment and get you in immediately in an emergency.  They never make you feel rushed at appointments and always call you back when requested. My friends referred me to Kirkwood when I went looking for a new vet for my dog. In the last six years or so I've never been less than pleased with the care we've received. Over the years I've met all three wonderful doctors who have done everything  from nail clippings and vaccines to X-rays after eating garbage and thorough evaluation and stitching up after a dog attack to teeth cleaning with planned tooth pull. They've always taken the time to explain everything to my satisfaction, showing me X-rays and explaining lab work.  In my opinion, they've never over treated or under treated my dog. The front office staff is very efficient and thorough. When I've called in for advice, they've been nothing less than very helpful in answering my questions about what I should do helping me to decide if I should bring my dog in.  The testament to their kind care is all over the walls. Many satisfied customers have given them gifts of framed pictures of their pets with thank you notes expressing very heartfelt feelings. Their prices are reasonable, too. Read Less

for the past 2 years, this animal hospital has been our go to. My family was never very good at routine check ups for animals but since I've gotten older I've tried to be that way for them. Last year we took our dog to get his teeth cleaned and whichever ones cannot be saved, removed.My dog was a rescue, had been rejected for many homes and frankly is very scared of people sometimes but especially uniformed. To my surprise, the doctors in this office have never failed to make my animals feel comfortable and safe in a way that I've never seen them interact before with strangers.This office is professional and they care about your animals.Though I hate doing so, when I leave my pets with them, no they are being cared for, catered too, and handled with love. I had been coming here a lot in the past few months as Fluffy's health declined. Kirkwood does such thorough checkups that they diagnosed him with congestive heart failure when other vets i've been to failed to notice. They kept him comfortable for another year and let me down easy when it was time for him to go. Their staff was very compassionate and I highly recommend Dr. Ueno and Dr. Hu. I have brought my Smokey to Kirkwood Animal Hospital since he was 2 1/2 months old and he is now 11 years old. I also brought my other dog Dexter since he was a puppy, he's now 6 years old. My Dexie was diagnosed with severe hip displaygia by Kirkwood Animal Hospital at 6 months old and they saved his life because I thought I was going to have to put him down. He is doing fabulously living with my son in Tennessee. I wouldn't trust any of my pets health care needs anywhere else but here, because you can't get great "Snoopy" health care with friendly helpful front office staff anywhere else.Read Less

We have been taking our dog here for years. Their office is centrally located and easy to find. When making an appointment, they are very accommodating, they even have Saturday appointments . We've been coming to Dr.Ueno for 13 years now.  He cares for all our dogs, 3 Australian Shepherds and a Pekingese.  We've also taken our foster dogs here for emergencies ( consuming chocolates, foxtail removal etc. ) While Dr. Ueno has been our primary Vet, we've also seen Dr. Okumura ( no longer here ) and Dr. Hu on several occasions.  The staff up front are multitasker's and very straight forward. ( so please don't misinterpret as being rude )Three years ago, we moved to Santa Cruz and while there are many qualified Veterinarians in the area, we chose to continue taking our pets over the hill to Kirkwood Animal Hospital.  We love the staff here, they love our pets....we will continue coming here for the excellent care of our pets. Dr. Ueno is great. He doesn't spend my money frivolously. He never rushes the visit. My parents went to him for a second opinion on their dog for what the other vet said was a necessary surgery. Dr. Ueno disagreed and 6 years later, their dog's problem has resolved itself. Read Less
