On Saturday April 14 my dog had given labor to a still born pup. We were referred by VCA to go to sage so that my dog can have a C section. We arrived and they immediately started talking about costs, but the doctor had only come in once into our room. Didn't come back for a check up or for the 2 times we had asked for her to come back. Each time an assistant returned and would tell us she was in the phone. She had been on the phone for 2 hours and still hadn't come back. We were given a total for the emergency fee, x ray, and blood panel test to see how my dogs levels were. 40 minutes later the assistant came in telling us she already administered my dog medicine. What if my dog had been allergic or just the fact that we couldn't afford the medicine was a factor. We had even let the assistant know our limit and still proceeded to charge us for it instead of stating she did it without consent or that she had made a mistake. We addressed this issue with another assistant because the initial one didn't want to come back and address her mistake. Once all the is done 2 hours later, no results, no solution being given. They let us know that as per our request we can take my dog home and if in 4 hours she didn't expel another pup she would need surgery. Totally aware, genny is my service dog, I take care of my baby. They wanted to charge us 6000 on top of whatever they had already done to her which wasn't approved. Anyways we had taken my dog out of sage and taken her to another pet hospital on Camden and Ross! Amazing vet there. He works with you on prices and they aren't jacked up. He actually cared about the animal and not the money. To end the story, the clinic my dog is at now is helping her, unlike sage and to top it off sage knew we took genny to the pet hospital and still called animal services to come to our door. They are the ones that showed neglect and then called animal services when all we did was get our dog care elsewhere so it wouldn't be so much money. Sage is just money hungry and don't care to work on payment plans. Read Less

Sorry, we cannot give this pet hospital ANYTHING but a ZERO! We brought our cat for emergency help on a Sunday night and although we only had to pay $133.82 (pain meds) they seemed to only be interested in charging about $2000 for the night and then it may be another 2 to4 thousand for their services on Monday. STAY FAR AWAY! GREEDY!!! They want your money more than they want to help your pet! My cat had a urinary blockage, so I had to rush him to SAGE in the middle of the night because he was in extreme pain. They gave me an estimate of $2151-$2980 for to treat him for 36 hours, but I'm a student and that wasn't an option for me, so they "worked with me" and brought the price down to $1500-$2500 for an 18 hour stay. My cat needed treatment otherwise he would die, so I was forced to give them the minimum payment before they started treatment. They treated him and I picked him up the next evening and was told to give him a prescription diet to help prevent this from happening again, but they didn't even give me a prescription for it! Weird... All was well until the next night he blocked again, so I had to take him back and they were going to charge me $909-$2124 to keep him there overnight. They told me this was going to keep happening, so in the long run it would be cheaper to get him surgery, and if I couldn't afford either, I would have to put him down. Obviously I didn't want that so I asked for an estimate for surgery: $4523-5603. I immediately knew I couldn't pay that, so I asked them to unblock him for the night so I could take him somewhere more affordable tomorrow. They charged me $437 to keep him there for less than three hours! One of the vet techs referred me to The Cat Hospital, so I took him there today and was blown away by my experience. The office is very nice and everyone was so friendly and helpful, unlike SAGE (the front desk is not very friendly). They would only charge $1200 for the surgery, but explained my cat doesn't even need it! He just needed to be monitored for a few days, which they estimated to cost $469-583 for a 3-4 day stay! I paid about that much just to have my cat treated at SAGE for less than three hours! SAGE made me believe my cat would have to be killed if I couldn't pay to help him! Unbelievable! The girls at The Cat Hospital were blown away by the extremely high numbers SAGE was throwing at me. They even said another cat was brought to them for help that day after being treated at SAGE! Also at TCH, an actual veterinarian spent a lot of time talking to me about my cat, but at SAGE the veterinary technicians were mostly helping me, and kept running back and forth to get answers from the veterinarian. I just picked my German Shepherd up after she had a procedure to repair a lacerated tendon after she broke a window in our home. There was a wait for the exam but because it's an emergency clinic I understand that patients with more severe, life threatening cases take priority. The staff was so kind and helped ease my mind throughout the whole process. Meagan was very sweet on checkout and make me feel so much better. Hopefully I never have an emergency that brings me back to Sage, but I certainly trust them with my pets care and will continue to use them in the future Read Less

my cat was given a death sentence from his regular vet. I took him for a second opinion and because of their thorough testing and specialists, my cat is still alive more than a year later. He ended up having a heart issue not lymphoma cancer which is what he was originally diagnosed with. I am so glad I got the second opinion. Dr. Johns at Sage literally saved my Sunny's life. The doctor at the first vet was suggesting I put him down. I have gone back a few times to Sage and every time I have been impressed with their service. I can get med refills VERY easily and the staff is 100% amazing. Thanks you to everyone at Sage. I know when I take Sunny there he is in good hands! Read Less

My dog needed surgery for a ruptured CCL (doggie ACL.) My regular vet recommended that I visit Sage for a surgery consult. Sage was able to get me for a consult with surgeon Dr. Angela Banz as soon as possible. My dog had the surgery (TPLO) that day because Dr. Banz happened to have an opening and I wanted to get the surgery done as soon as possible. Sage was wonderful about communicating with me. They called when my dog was out of surgery and as soon as she was ready to go home. After an overnight stay, I picked up my dog and a vet tech spent about 30 minutes with me going over all the medications, physical therapy, etc. with me. Sage called to check in a couple of days later to see how my dog was recovering. My dog is ridiculously shy, so a special shout out to vet tech Hannah and to Dr. Angela Banz. My dog went from being completely terrified to actually feeling comfortable around those two! I never felt rushed and they both took plenty of time to answer all my questions.Anyone who has been through TPLO surgery knows that there is a very high chance that your dog will need the other knee repaired. Unfortunately, my dog was one of those who needed the second one done. Surgery number two went just as smoothly as the first one. I brought my dog here to be taken care of and treated fairly. This place is decent but dont expect much of the service staff techs. There is one red headed girl named tina that should not be working around animals or people for that matter - she is rude, insincere, demeaning and seems to hate her job...it is very obvious. I would feel uncomfortable leaving my dog overnight in her care -im surprised the managers still have her employed. Other than that the place is clean and the doctor was very nice. Read Less

The facility when you enter is pleasant, but the receptionists all lack the bedside manner, kindness, and acknowledgement of the stressful moment that all pet owners need when their pets are in distress. You are made to feel like you are on assembly line with no respect, clear communication provided. You, the customer are made to feel like you have to go out of your way to communicate to them while the receptionists talk to each other as though you are not right in front of them and eat at their desks. Truly unprofessional. They then put you in room and the emergency doctor arrives in with the estimate. Zero bed side manner, zero explanation you have to ask questions to get basic answers as to the treatment plans for their findings. Never smiles, never acknowledges the stressful moment, it's all about the money . To top it off the emotional blackmail tactic used to get a customer to pay the treatment fees is disgusting. I am reporting to my vet to the treatment I received from the emergency doctor, Doctor Kollar. I had to pull information from her to try and understand the process. To add to the disgust they put an IV in and took blood from my pet without my consent and I never signed the estimate of charges for this. It was assumed I would proceed with their recommendations. They assumed wrong and when I said I was leaving and not following their recommendations I was told, my pet is suffering. I don't need the emotional blackmail comment made. It's unprofessional, mean, and cruel. We all take responsibility for our pets and getting a 2nd opinion is what I wanted and should not feel guilty of doing. When I went to pay the bill the staff all knew what was going on and made comments at the front desk. I have never been so humiliated. It was already an upsetting moment that your doctor and receptionist team made feel even worse. You had an opportunity to make a client for life and spread the word how great your facility is and all you did was the exact opposite by your unprofessionalism and caring more about the money than the pet! My doctor spoke to Sage clinic prior to me coming in and notified the clinic that my dog had a tumor and we would come in to do an ultrasound, due to our doctor's office not having the means to do one, so they referred us to Sage. I was clear when calling in twice, to get pricing and their scheduling procedures, they advised I had to pay $140 to get another doctors visit to examine my dog. (More money down the drain $140 just to walk through the door) I made it clear when I checked in, that I was referred by my doctor to get an ultrasound and she had already spoke to Sage and ran x-rays and blood work. When I arrived I was at the counter filling out paperwork when they took my dog back, without me. I was roomed for 20-30 minutes alone. Then the doctor came in and advised they had drawn blood and did some test....without my consent or knowledge! This doctor advised there wasn't a doctor in to do a (full) ultra sound and suggested we admit our dog (cost $1800 to sleep there for 6 hours waiting for the "doctor that preforms the full ultrasounds" to come in) OTHER option, bring her back tomorrow and repay a visit ($140). (Mind you, there's no blood no vomiting l, no immediate emergency or tragedy) We opted to return and avoid anymore unnecessary cost. I woke up the next day, this was all so overwhelming, that the anger hit me the next day. So I called the manager. She was nice and listened to my complaint. We did end up returning to do the "full" ultrasound and got the bad news that the cancer had spread, and they waived the charge for the actual visit, which they didn't have to do. We paid for tons on meds though. And the topper was that the first doctor suggested we kill our dog! They predicted a few days and she'd die! We stopped all meds and It's been three weeks! She's got a pep in her step, eating, pooping and we're loving her as much as possible, before the cancer takes over. Thank you God! All in all- the staff were very nice and professional, but will I come back? Probably not. I need to trust that the doctor that's going to take care of my animals will include me in the loop of choices being made, especially prior to sticking a needle into my animal. They change a cheaper rate after hours. They are professional, nice and caring. Maybe this was a one time or rare incident? (Add 3 stars) Isn't there a law against needling animals without consent? One star for high class facility; one star for professional nurses. Minus 3 star for poor communication from doctors regarding costs and medical prognosis. They make more money by treating your pet regardless of his prognosis. I spent $3800 for a diagnositc workup, medications and eventual euthanasia in a 2 month span. My poor kitty suffered horribly in the end, all for hope and guilt on my part. Go to your regular vet and make them telll you realiity. Read Less

This place is absolutely amazing! We followed a vet to this practice when our dog was showing signs of a tumor. The vet had saved our dog's life over a year earlier and we knew he would provide the best treatment. Unfortunately our dog was very old and he was diagnosed with cancer. They gave us plenty of options for treatment, but given his age and existing hip problems we opted not to treat it. They respected our decision without question and gave us things to watch for quality of life. A couple of months later we knew it was time and we brought him back to be put to sleep. Sage handled the entire process with respect and dignity! They gave us plenty of time with our dog before and after his passing. When I have an animal that needs emergency treatment Sage will be on the TOP of my list! Read Less

I don't know how their veterinary skills are because I never got passed the receptionist. My dog ingested chocolate and unfortunately Marlene was the one who picked up. She was rude and acted entitled (she's just a receptionist, by the way) I asked if I could speak to a doctor and she gave me an attitude like I just asked to speak to God himself. My cat had a minor issue that was potentially life threatening, and I wanted to have it checked ("better safe than sorry.") The office staff were welcoming, pleasant and professional and the medical personell were knowledgeable and polite. I have no complaints about the treatment that either my cat or I received at Sage. I will definitley come back for any future veterenary emergencies, and I would recommend them to friends who need an emergency vet. Read Less

To be lucid my experience was for a complicated procedure and my puppy died. However, in my opinion, and those of multiple other veterinary and medical professionals (md's phd's etc) there were numerous errors that may have affected the outcome. The head of the hospital admitted there were errors in communication between the critical care veterinarian and ourselves. However, there was also a lack of communication between the team members that could have contributed to the death of our puppy. In my opinion, it's alright to admit if you don't have the capabilities to do a case. You study, communicate with experts and learn. The critical care veterinarian didn't seem to exhibit any of these qualities. We were thoroughly disappointed with the lackluster performance with premium prices. Maybe the dog would have died regardless, but we wanted to give him the best possibility to survive, Sage took away his chances. I wouldn't suggest anyone go to this practice. Brought my cat in at 11:30 at night terrified and crazy. They handled both animal and owner beautifully. My cat ended up needing major surgery, and they took the time to keep me updated throughout the whole day. Dr. Shaw and the staff at Sage took care of our dog Annie when she was diagnosed with fibrosarcoma in her nasal cavity. They made sure we understood all the details of the disease and what her treatment (pallative radiation) would entail. They were both compassionate and caring. We're now a few weeks out from her treatment and Annie is getting back to being the happy, energetic dog we have always known. Without the fantastic staff at Sage she would be miserable. The team at Sage have worked for more than 2 years to help my dog, Bonnie, to survive cancer. They definitely are the best. But beyond technical skills they are so wonderful in their interactions both Bonnie and me. Although Bonnie has undergone 4 surgeries and 2-16 day radiation treatments and innumerable tests, the minute we drive up to Sage, Bonnie's tail begins to wag and she seems to say, "this is where my friends are!" They are compassionate when dealing with me as I face the possibility, time and time again, of losing my closest companion.
