The veterinary is a mild mannered vet.  Good hearted. Unfortunately, the establishment is poorly run. I have booked on multiple occasions the first appointment of the day, and it has never started on time, or close.  Not because of an emergency, but because the vet does not arrive on ime.   Sadly my cat sits in a bag.  The office does not call to advise you the doctor is delayed 40 minutes plus. I have taken my dog with an ear infection and they were trying to dump a whole bunch of meds and procedure that will do the same thing. This review is long overdue.  Dr. Shahzad is the most wonderful Veterinarian.  When we adopted our first cat from Valley Cats they told us he was the only Vet they worked with. He explains everything he's doing no matter if it's a yearly vaccination appointment or something a bit more serious.  The most important aspects of a medical office in my opinion  (animal or human) is the staff.  You can't get better than Dr. Shahzads team.  Yesterday I called regarding some symptoms my dog was having.  They put me on hold for a very short time and asked Dr. Shahzad what it could be.The doctor said it sounded like a bee sting and I was told how to treat it at home  They also told me there were a few symptoms I should look for and if it gets worse to then come in.Dr. Shazad's office does not price gouge. I'm never worried about being charged too much for immunizations or any treatments needed. Read Less

I have been taking my dog here for 4 years, since we adopted her as a puppy. We now have a second dog. When we adopted our second dog, a mixed terrier from the W. Valley Animal Shelter, I was given a voucher for another vet for a free exam.  That vet tried to sell me a panel of tests, packages and unnecessary services in my opinion SO will be bringing our second dog here as well. They are always fair, reasonable, they do not try to hard sell me products and services that my dog truly does not need and are considerate of my time and financial resources. I feel like we are treated like valued customers instead of being treated like walking dollar signs. The vet is great and very thorough as well as the staff. They seem to like what they do. I've had a pleasant experience so far.  The vet, dr Shazad, seems knowledgeable and his staff is very kind to my pets.  4 and not 5 stars because the wait time can be more than 1 hour and they do not take appointments!  But when you have a sick pet, at the end, the hour wait is worth it. GREAT EXPERIENCE !!!!!went  in as an emergency patient on a friday.   my baby boy (cockapoo) had been limping the whole week, so I was happy they were able to see me. there were 2 other folks there that i'm sure had appointments, but I was placed in the examination room before them.  Dr Shahzad  came and examined my dog and diagnosed arthritis.  he did a nice thorough exam  and even gave him his shots as if I had a scheduled exam.  he gave medication for my dog and he has been doing much better.  i'm a dentist and also work with the public so I know how emergency patients can sometimes throw a wrench in the schedule, but they took the time to do everything by the book, and I appreciated their efforts. come on down to this place................YOUR IN GREAT HANDS !!!!!! :) Read Less

This vet did not care about my cat in pain. All he wanted was the money. No compassion for an animal in distress. He tried to take advantage of my situation and charge me more than double of my normal vet. I was crying and he just walked out of the room as soon as I said I could not afford $2000 to have my male cat's urethra unblocked-He should be ashamed of himself!!!! Read Less

Our old cat (20!) suddenly swelled up on the right side of her mouth. Took her in the next day and the staff stayed after closing working on her. She had an abces, and five teeth had to come out. The doc explained what he was going to do and how to take care of her when we got her home. We were amazed at how quickly she was up and around. We got out of her box and she was already eating! I took my poppy for neutering and getting his baby teeth pulled. I was very concerned about choosing a reputable place. The staff was great specially the girl in the front desk "Gabby". She walked me through the procedure and answered all of my questions, she was extremely nice and helpful. My dog was healed after 2 weeks and got his stitches removed. I thought that this vet was a good place to take my dog based on the good reviews. That being said, it wasn't until after I took my dog to CAMINO ANIMAL CLINIC that I realized that Dr. Shazad is not so amazing as I thought. I have been taking my dog to Dr. Shazad for 3-4 years now for his skin allergies. Every visit was the same, he just briefly examined my dog and simply just said that it was all related to his skin allergies. Being naive, I believed him and continued the visits which consisted of steroid shots (his only cure for every symptom). Recently my dogs allergies got so severe, even after a visit to Dr. Shazad, that I took my dog to Camino for a second opinion. Well let me tell ya, the Camino staff and doctors are nothing like this Canoga park vet center. They actually care about their patients and know more than just allergies and steroid shots. Dr. Hall and the staff at Camino is AMAZING and very loving towards your pet. She knew exactly what was wrong with my dog just from looking at him and fixed him right up. After running some skin tests, it turns out it wasn't just allergies, he had yeast  a major bacteria infection. Dr. Hall was also actually upset that Dr. Shazad's only answer to everything was steroids. My dog was feeling 10x better after just one visit.3-4 years of pain my dog had to endure and Canoga Park Vet $200 visits wasted! I'd gladly pay that total 4 year amount to see Dr. Hall any day. Canoga Park Vet may be a convenient place to take your pet for vaccinations or simple check ups, but Dr. Shazad knows nothing more than just that. So, last year, I embarked on the journey of puppy ownership for the first time in quite a while.  I purchased an adorable Corgi of the Pembroke variety and set out to find a suitable vet to look him over, and give him shots.  Yelp led me to Dr. Shahzad's office, and I found it to be a great, down-to-earth place to get most of my pet's basic care needs looked after.    They do the job, and they do it well, with no frills.  This is a very no-muss, no-fuss vet's office.  They treat their patients and their patients' parents kindly, and don't recommend anything unnecessary, which my wallet appreciated.  In the West Valley we are surrounded by lots of fancy animal hospitals that provide a lot of advanced medicine for pets, but really - when it comes to basic preventive care and the usual puppy routine and yearly vaccines, you don't need all of that.  You just need a good doctor.  In my opinion, a lot of vets are moving towards being much like Jiffylube - they get you in and kick the tires a little bit, and then recommend a laundry list of things your pet really doesn't need.My PWC was recently neutered there.  I started calling around to price out neutering and everyone local wanted between $500-$600.  To throw some perspective on that price - it costs less to do the same procedure on a horse.  At home.  So, for a procedure as minor as a neuter, I feel this price is absolutely outlandish.  Dr. Shahzad did it for less than half that, and the job was done well.  My dog recovered quickly without incident.  All in all, I will continue to take my pets to Dr. Shahzad.  The office is consistently clean and well kept, and the staff are professional and kind. My girlfriend and I first went to Dr. Shazhad because we had a 17-year-old cat in kidney failure. He was so patient with us and helped us understand what was worth trying and what would be pushing her too hard. It was a very difficult time for us and he made it so much better. She did pass away about a week later, but it he did help us make that week better for her. We also brought our two kittens there while we were in the area. They were careful and patient and kind to our cats. They gave us great advice and helped us keep our kittens in tip top health. When we told him we were moving away (I live in Florida now), he advised us about different health concerns for a cat in that area of Florida versus living in West Hills, CA. He also told me that if I had an issues or concerns after I move, or if I was worried about advice I got from another vet, that I could call him and ask for advice. Today, I did just that and he was happy to help. They have been nothing but wonderful to us and our cats. I would recommend them to anyone living within driving distance. Read Less

I adopted my cat from Kitten Rescue. They took him to another vet at the corner of Ventura Blvd and Topanga, I think its So Cal Veternary. They were expensive, and all about getting more visits out of you. Each time I went its was over or close to $100, the vet was never specific about the skin irritation. I went to Dr. Shahzad, immediately he gave me a tiny tube of cream, and some spray, said the cone I had before was too small and it was not helping the situation. He also gave me the proper size cone. 2 days later my cats skin irritation was gone, all cleared up. Dr. Shahzad takes his time, he examines your animal from stem to stern, does not get involved on the phone or with other patients while you are being seen by him with your animal. The prices are so reasonable, affordable, they are not about making $$$$, its quality care all the way, even the girls who work up front are courteous, caring and treat you with respect. The office is clean, but it is not a show place, so if your into fancy go elsewhere. Read Less
