Appalling. I just parked on Sherman way to go to another business and I see a boy scruffing a tiny young freshly neutered frightened meowing kitty walking down Sherman Way. I realized that the vet tech had allowed this man to pick up his cat without a carrier. My luck I saw them. Everything happens for a reason. I educated the young man that it only takes one second for that Cat to escape and run into traffic or get lost. I walked over to the vet office and expressed my utter disappointment. I told them I was appalled and they made up excuses as to the fact they can’t force it. Ridiculous. As a rescuer and animal advocate I will never take my business here. The care doesn’t stop when the patient leaves your office. Shame on you for not offering to hold that Cat til a carrier was brought in or to offer them a cardboard carrier. Shame. Read Less

This is one of the Veterinary Hospitals that the city of Los Angeles sends your adopted pet to be spayed or neutered before releasing. The reception area was clean and bright. The staff seemed knowledgeable and concerned about the health of our adoption. Since our dog's surgery was postponed for a day, we were invited to visit with our new pet. It was good for both of us. The procedure is paid at the animal shelter however, the hospital offered a few ups: IV fluid during surgery, pain medications after surgery and a blood test. We agreed to pay for the IV during surgery, an injection to control pain and pain pills to take home. We rejected the blood test, preferring to let our vet perform any tests necessary. This surgery package can add over 100 dollars to the final adoption. When asked about the additional charges, I was told that the city only pays so much. We called the Animal Shelter and reported the charges. When we pick-up our new friend the charges were cut in half. Wheelchair accessible including a gender neutral bathroom. Read Less

This place is a scam. The actual veterinarian comes in for 2 minutes and claims your pet has all these issues. Then they come out with outrageously priced medications that your pet supposedly needs to make him/her feel better. I've had my dog for several years and he's always been a happy, healthy dog. In this case, he was brought in for a hot spot hoping to get some ointment or antibiotics. However, they came up with so many unnecessary medications for my dog just to scam me out of more money as if paying them for the pointless appointment and medication that could have been bought at your local pet store wasn't enough. DONT BRING YOUR PETS HERE!!!!!!!!!Ive been taking both my dogs here since i got them. I had some trouble since the start when they would make me wait over an hour for scheduled appointments because they would overbook or accept walk ins. I looked past it because they were cheaper than others. One of my dogs who happens to be a puppy broke a toe and we took her to get treated. When we took her for her check up the veterinarian was checking her sensitive but healed toe. Luna, my dog, was showing the she was uncomfortable being touched and he still kept touching her. She then jumped back, yelped and grabbed his hand with her mouth. She did not bite down as she jumped backing away. Mind you my dog was less than a year old and very small. When she reacted the vet pushed her off the high examination table. He threw my puppy off the high table! What kind of vet does that. A dog shows signs of discomfort as a vet you should know to ease off. He then began rubbing his hand where there was no wound or anything while my mom rushed to pick her up. He did not get bitten nothing. I dont know what kind of vet does that. My mom and i couldn't get over it. He didn't apologize he just rubbed the arm he used to throw my puppy off. Luckily she didnt get anything broken or fractured but we did let the receptionist know what happened and how unprofessional that was. We wanted to make an appointment in the same clinic but with the other veterinarian who has always been good with our dogs when they told us they wouldn't receive us because my puppy had bitten the other veterinarian. I dont understand what kind of vet works with dogs and freaks out when they show discomfort? Was she the first dog he handled? Horrible. If he had injured her we would have taken legal action. VACCINATION SCAM experience - After moving to Woodland Hills, i chose this vet as it was nearby and assumed by its name, i was getting  "value". Compared to the vet we used to go to when we lived in Granada Hills, it was a little more pricier but still was fine with it. So my first puppy had all her vaccinations done here, didnt notice any dishonesty at that time (almost 2 yrs ago).We got another puppy and i called about her first shots needed, first girl says $17, so i went in. When i pay the bill the worker says total is $30. I was shocked and asked if that price is correct, she says yes. So i paid but i knew that wasnt right, even if their prices went up in the past 2 yrs. So i thought maybe they give lower prices over the phone purposely so i called a couple days later asking for the price of that parvo shot. The lady said...$20 + $4 so total $24? or somewhere near there. So then i said, when i went in on saturday then why was i charged $30? She says theres two types of parvo and i needed to be specific which one i wanted. She said if i paid $30 then i got the higher priced one $27 + $4.How do you expect a customer to know you had two different types of parvo? If you want us to know then show us the menu breakdown if you dont want to just tell it. Besides if you decide to charge an upgraded price, its customary to ASK the customer if she would want that upgrade. Dissapointed at these "friendly" girls to play their customers like that. Never going back now, im going back to my old trusty Granada Hills vet for the rest of her vaccinations ($15 for the same parvo shot at the GH vet and their prices have stayed very fair from the years still). It may be a little further but the times i went to North Valley Vet in Granada Hills, everyone there has been friendly, gentle and professional. Especially with their very fair and no tricking prices(for their vacc shots, havnt went for other reasons), definitely worth it. Read Less

After taking him to an emergency vet I was informed that they should not have used glue to seal the incision. When I brought my dog back to have them re check the wound since it was still bleeding and to ask about the glue I was screamed at by the manager and told that it was my fault that the incision had opened. I've read through the reviews and decided to post a good one for this group.  I can tell you of my experience as well as state some areas on other reviews I would like to clarify:First off, I've been coming to this veterinarian since my early days in animal rescue.  I've had my successes with saving animals through them, and we lost animals with what we've tried to handle.  Life for animals is like life for humans.  Since the early days of rescue, I knew through being told that the hospital holds animals overnight; however, there's no staff to manage them.  They also will be up front and let you know if and when your animal should go to critical care where it is staffed 24/7.  Tony never failed to tell customers and me this at my beginning.  So do the staff of today.  The point of keeping your animal overnight is to keep him or her stable while fluids and medicines are administered in a stable environment.  I've known this for decades. What I've found in my time at Value Vet were customers who didn't want to run tests that ranged in success to help pin point conditions going on.  A veterinarian is not a walking clairvoyant.  If you ask a veterinarian to diagnose an animal without putting out the cost, that's on the customer.  I can tell you from my own personal experience that I went this route with Pippin, but only because she was 20 years old.  I knew the risks in what was going on, and she had a great life.  If your animal is sick, then expect it to cost some money.  If you went to the doctor for a pain or illness you didn't know what it is, he or she felt you and said, Here's some pills.  I think you have this.  Try it and see how it works.  If you have issues, come back." would that satisfy you?  Wouldn't you want tests performed to verify and make sure you're okay?  I don't know about you, but I pay for testing to verify issues with me, so this way I don't get misdiagnosed making it potentially worse. As I've said I've had success with Value Vet.  I've known the senior staff and the veterinarians in charge for some time.  The people there watched over my charges as well as my own animals.  I wouldn't take any animal to a place I didn't trust, and believe me there have been places.  I look forward to seeing Dr. Sheriff when I bring my cats to him.  There hasn't been a place I've gone to in quite some time.  This place gets my trust. This is another 1 star review that's going to say the same thing as all the others. I adopted a dog at the animal shelter. Wasn't given a choice where to send her to be fixed. However the nice man at the shelter warned me not to buy all the extras they were going to try to sale me. I should of taken that as a sign . When they called and did the up charge thing I went ahead and said yes to a couple things . I mean after all they are on a city contact to provide services I didn't mind throwing them a couple dollars more . Seems fair. What I didn't know is that they just aren't capable to provide that service . They keep pushing me off day after day not doing the surgery because there too busy . Keeping my dog in a  box 3 days because she's just a shelter delivery . Not important enough to deal with. They know that they will get the money so what's the rush . To an extent I can understand they need to service their clients . However this is abuse! If you can't handle the city contact don't take the city contact. They obviously don't have the ability or personal to handle the dogs the city is paying for. Read Less

What kind of doctor doesn't call with the results of blood tests that were to determine if our dog has LUNG CANCER!!!? Or maybe it is just a bad infection, or pneumonia. The doctor couldn't read the x-rays they took so he wasn't sure of anything. If it is an infection I could have started her on antibiotics yesterday, but they never called with the results. I called them at 3pm to ask if the results had come in. I was told that they came in that morning but a doctor had to read and tell me the results. I asked to be called before the doctor went home that evening. Clearly we need to know what the problem is. Can you imagine the emotional rollercoaster we are on, not knowing. The shelter send my adopted cat there to get fixed. The surgery got postponed ``because they had private appointments and could not do it"  to the next day. The following day, the operation got deferred because by that time my cat had developed sneezing - she was perfectly fine according to the vet shelter when she left the shelter, no other cat was sneezing at the shelter, thus it is possible she got this because of the overnight. In any case, I got her home and gave her antibiotics, and then scheduled an appointment a few weeks later to have her operation. I called 3 times to confirm the appointment, yet today, when I was supposed to pick her up at 2:00, they told me ``nothing has been done yet" and they ``had too many shelter animals" this time (last time they had too many appointments and this time too many shelter animals?!) Moreover, Ashley who I talked to, was  impolite about the whole incident. I cannot judge their medical services, however their administrative interface/scheduling  skills need improvement. I understand they can be overworked, but this is basic scheduling skills and at least they can apologize and be polite about it. Only after I asked to file a complaint they said they would do it by 5:30pm today. This is not the atmosphere you want at your vet. Read Less

Unfortunately our dog was sent here after being adopted. He was supposed to be neutered and ready on Monday. We called three days in a row and his surgery kept getting pushed to the next day because of overbookings or "emergencies."Was told one price on the phone for an additional procedure then was given another, higher price later in the day. They had "call" the previous girl to see what she said. All over $30. They ended up honoring the first price but it shouldn't have even been an issue in the first place. Finally on Wednesday he was ready. However, they apparently did an awful job on his exam because he had fleas. Our follow up exam was done at a different vet four days later and they noticed them immediately. The place wasn't as small or as dingey as the other reviews led me to believe. It looked nice. I see a lot of 1 star reviews and I am confused on why?!?!?! Let me start by saying I have been a dog and cat owner for almost 20 years. I have lived in, and visited vets in, Ohio, Florida, and California. I say this so you know that I have adequate experience. I have been going to this vet for at least 2 to 3 years now and have had a great experience. I have 2 Dachshunds and a Boxer and all 3 dogs see Dr. Sheriff, who is an awesome Veterinarian.  Here is a little bit about my experience. My first time here I was recommended by a vet hospital where my male Dachshund was treated. He had pancreatitis and we were extremely worried about his condition. The hospital wanted more money than we could afford to treat him. Value Vet kept him for a week on an IV. This cost us 1/3 of the hospital and about 60% of other vets. Our Dachshund made a full recovery.Because of this we started taking all 3 of our Dogs there for everything from checkups to nail trims. Then our Boxer started having problems. Eventually he lost the ability to use his back legs. Tony and Dr. Sherriff worked with us through every step of Tyler's MULTIPLE problems for over a year. They helped us with infected nails, medicines, and more. The one time I had a problem it was due to a billing issue that ended up being a miscommunication and something I misunderstood. Instead of creating a problem over the issue, Tony waived the fee in question. Then, this past April, the time came that all pet owners dread. Tyler was beginning to suffer and needed to be put to sleep. Tony and Dr. Sherriff were not only very sensitive and accommodating to the situation; I was given a discount to help ease the situation. Granted I had been there a lot with Tyler and was there every couple weeks getting meds, but Tony did not have to do this. The price was the price, but he did what he could to help a horribly sad situation and we were extremely grateful. Since then my 2 Dachshunds have been back for check-ups, blood test, nail trims, and gland expulsions. Now I do understand people are frustrated with the wait sometimes. I have been there for 2 plus hours before, but they are a good vet with good prices. That is going to happen sometimes. There are other times though that I am in and out in well under an hour. Honestly though, this has happened at most vets I have been too.  I mean if you think about it, if they were not good, why would they be busy most of the time? I have recommended Value Vet in Canoga Park to my friends and I recommend it to you!!!!  Bring your pet in for a check-up and give them a try!!!! Read Less

PLEASE, I am begging you for the sake of your dogs safety and your own peace of mind. NEVER bring your dog here. If the shelter assigns you to this clinic, please request them to assign you to a different one. My husky retriever got lost and was taken to the shelter. I went to the shelter on Saturday and found her. I was told that she needs to be  transferred to this clinic to be fixed, and that she would be ready by Sunday. They kept her for 3 days and kept giving me false hopes. I was told to pick her up Sunday, then Monday, then Tuesday. The last time I called, I complained to a guy named TONY. A professional clinic representative should know that this type of frustration needs to be understood and handled properly after being given false hopes several times. And besides, it is my right to complain since I paid for all the services. This bastard TONY shouted back at me and told me that he was sending my dog back to the shelter then banged the phone on me. This caused me more delay and stress on my part. My dog has been with me for years, and not only do I treat her as a pet, but as family. Dr. Lucero asked for her leash and I gave it to him. Now her leash is attached to a harness that wraps around her head and snout, it prevents her from pulling when going for walks. This "vet" proceeded to pull the leash as hard as he possibly could to get my dog to come up to him, subsequently pulling her body by her head. This went on for about 30 seconds... She whimpered because she was in pain. I told this man to get off of her and let go of her leash. He let go and said he could not treat her if she would not go near him. I told him pulling her by her head is no way to get a dog to come near you. I turned my dog around and asked him to examine her (she has anal gland issues) He then immediately said she was in heat and left the room. I highly suggest you stay away from this "veterinarian" .  We adopted a dog from the shelter.  The shelter chose to have her spayed at this dump. The vet used glue to close the wound.  The glue didn't work leaving the dog bleeding.  We took her back and they agreed staples were needed.  They took the beautiful girl back and corrected what was in competently done in the first place by closing the wound with staples.  When we went to pick the beautiful girl up,  they wanted to charge us $175.00.  After contacting Brenda at the county of Los Angeles Animal Control (she handles the contracts between the county and Vets), she advised that Value Vet had clearly broke the contract by attempting to charge us for their failure.  Charging us for their incompetence is absurd! They have made this experience of adopting a pet from the shelter less than favorable.  Our impression of Value Vet is that they intend to take advantage of parents of newly adopted pets from the Los Angeles animal shelter.  When you enter,  you can smell the place isn't cleaned regularly.  Additionally. I've posted a photo of the mess at the front desk.  It's obvious the place is ran poorly upon stepping one foot in the door.**update** Now she has blood coming from her vagina.  The manager, Tony refused to see the the dog to evaluate their failed surgery.  I HIGHLY recommend you don't step foot in this facility. I had an emergency last Sunday with my senior dog Cody - he got a cut on his leg. My regular vet was closed. I went to see Dr. Fret Lucero at Value Vet. He calmed me down and assured me that my dog would be fine. The staff was friendly and so efficient. I was sure that I would not be able to afford the services. I accidentally brought my cat for vaccination and check up for the first time at Value Vet in Canoga Park. Dr. Sherif is so wonderful! Honesty - ONLY $$$ Hungry Post Op Care - VERY BAD Price - Not CHEAP, go to regular VET Love Animals - NOT. They are $$$ Makers Honesty of Doctors - NO. They look up to Tony and make up stories to charge you more $$$ Episode 1: Got an animal from shelter. They sent it to Value Vet automatically for Spay/Neuter. Incision was long but only 2 stitches found. One at the each end. The middle section WIDELY OPEN. Wound infected. Went to ER. Spent $150. Episode 2: Found tumor. Surgery done. $450 = not cheap! But bad Pre Op care. Remember? Every bandage change $15 - 20 every 3 days to come back. Bad Pre Op instruction given. Infected Wound just like Episode 1. Another ER visit $150. Medication $100 $450 + $60 (bandages) + $150 ER + $100 MED = $760 WOW!! A LOT MORE THAN A GOOD VET WITH GOOD MEDICATON Bottom line: They love for you to come back with more problems one after another. Surgery is a good opportunity for them to suck you and your pet into more trouble. You see how much additional $$$ I had to spend thinking that it's a vet with a VALUE? YOU ARE DEAD WRONG. Oh, yeah. Episode 3: Additional Surgery required for post OP infection. Another $325. HAHAHAHA. Is this a joke??!!?? Well, went for 2nd opinion. Alas, the wound was clean. Doctor told me that the 2nd surgery is NECESSARY and TONY said that the dead tissue MUST BE REMOVED. Went in for 2nd opinion. Wow. The wound was healing beautifully without any dead tissue!!! So, does this mean that they wanted more $$$ for lying about the wound? Episode 4: Due to bad Post OP CARE, the tight bandage was causing the 2nd injury to unwounded skin. $100 Overall, at this VET, they NEVER SHOW YOU the wound. You have to believe whatever they tell you. While the pet is being examined, you NEVER SEE what the wound looks like. They basically take the pet into the tiny surgery room. PLEASE DO NOT THINK ABOUT GETTING A GOOD DEAL AT THIS PLACE. THEY WILL GAUGE EVERY PENNY OUT OF YOU. NO MERCY, NO HEART, ONLY MONEY MONEY MONEY. THIS IS MY PRESENT TO THE PEOPLE THAT DO LOVE THEIR PET. PLEASE DO STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. I AM WELL EXPERIENCED IN THEIR BUSINESS -- I HAVE BEEN BURNED TOO MANY TIMES. I AM AN EXPERT AT THIS PLACE. I HAVE BEEN THEIRE TOO MANY TIMES with MORE PROBLEMS.Read Less

Yeah, I do have to agree some of reviewers opinions about the manager (Tony)... He is a little bit cold and distant. When I sent my dog for neutering and he said he would call me... And he never did... this is to compare him to the other female staffs. He is definitely colder. The other female staffs (forgot her name) greeted me with smiles and promptly called me when my cat is ready to pick up. Maybe he is more friendly to regular customers... I never had the chance to talk with vet so I don't know... Both my cat and dog are doing ok after neutering but I did add cone and some anesthesia so the total price is not that cheap as I like. OWNER BEWARE! This vet has lied to us about prices multiple times and the office manager [possible owner] Tony is a compulsive liar. Nice staff, HORRIBLE management. I was quoted a price of $1.53 per can of prescription dog food on Sunday. They ordered the food and let me know that it was avaiable for pick up on Monday. I called Monday before going for pick up and the office attendant verified that the food was available for pick up. I get to the office to pick up the food, after a 52 minute drive, and they inform me that the food was not in. I spoke with Tony, the supposed owner, and he blames me for not calling to check even though the attendant verfied that I called twice. I reconfirm to him that I indeed called, he's unapologetic and goes about his way. I then call on Tuesday and he confirms it's not in. On Thursday I call and the food has arrived and I confirm w/the receptionist that the price is $1.53 - she agrees. I re-confirm this with Tony and ask him if he would jot those prices down so that their sister company [which is MUCH closer to me] can match those prices. He then says the price has now changed to $2.08 per can. I advise him that I was quoted multiple times, and he responded that they have been understaffed and haven't had time to update their prices, that are obviously very old. I've bought from them for the last 6 months @ the price of $1.53. I then ask him, will he honor that price for the order that I already placed, he agrees to $1.53 per can. I send my husband to pick up this food and he tells my husband he has to charge him $1.93 a can - AND HE COULDN'T RECALL TALKING TO ME LESS THAN 3 HOURS PRIOR! Tony's selling practices are EXTREMELY deceptive and improper. He has done nothing by lie over and over again and when we confont him he can't recall ANYTHING! I've had other issues with them that I've let slide, this is definately the straw that broke my back! Read Less

Prior to my being allowed to adopt her, my healthy 8-week-old kitten was brought to Value Vet by the Animal Shelter for spaying with pick up by me the same day. A few days after surgery, she required a second surgery due to a postoperative hernia caused by the spaying. Two days after that, she developed significant swelling at the incision area, which Value Vet said ""looked normal and was not cause for concern."" At this point, I took my kitten to my usual vet and learned she had a serious abdominal infection, requiring a third surgery. Ten days post adoption, my once healthy kitten is on heavy doses of antibiotics, and frankly, I hope she survives. In addition to all of this, the experience at Value Vet was unnecessarily traumatic for my kitten. While the staff seemed genuinely warm, the office manager showed very little compassion for the animals: making my kitten jump in fear by slamming shut the steel door of her cage; having me bring her there at 8:30 a.m., only to perform surgery on her 5-hours later; and finally, placing this teeny sick kitten in a cage next to a huge, loudly barking dog. When we left Value Vet, my normally meek and quiet kitten was truly hysterical, flinging herself against the side of her carrier over and over and screaming ""OW, OW, OW,"" the whole way home. It was horrible to witness. The facility itself is dirty and dusty. While I don't want to be overcharged by a veterinary clinic, I do want to have confidence that my pet is being given compassionate and excellent treatment. I am concerned that she received neither at Value Vet. Read Less

I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND Value Vet in Canoga Park, especially Dr. Reid Moorhead. I had brought my pet to be examined because my pet was ill. At times, I felt Dr. Reid Moorhead recommended additional services that were not necessary. Whether they were or not, I was not comfortable with they way he appraoched and suggested it.

Read Less

Read Less

Had an absolutely horrible experience, brought my male dog in to be nuetered less than 4 hrs after picking him up the incision had opened. After taking him to an emergency vet I was informed that they should not have used glue to seal the incision. When I brought my dog back to have them re check the wound since it was still bleeding and to ask about the glue I was screamed at by the manager and told that it was my fault that the incision had opened. After I tried to discuss with him what I was told by the other vet I was then yelled at to leave. I will never bring any of my animals back to this vet. Read Less

Read Less

The shelter that I got my dog from sent her to this place to get spayed. They didn't even know she was pregnant before they did the surgery, even after doing all the tests I told them to do everything. So during the surgery they find out half way that she is pregnant, and she lost A LOT of blood more than she should have even though that did happened. I took her to a vet that actually knew what they were doing after and had her stay over night. I had to pay a fortune for all of this by the way. Still waiting to see if my dog will be okay. Still no call this morning!!! Now I am going back there to get the results and find another vet who can read them. Certainly this vet can not be trusted. Read Less

But the last thing a stressed shelter dog wants to do is spend days locked up at a vet clinic. Read Less

Thankfully the shelter took my dog to a different clinic.Hey TONY, shout out to you if you are reading this. Send me a private message where you would like to meet me! Dr. Lucero walked into the room and greeted us and then tried to begin examining my dog. My dog is nervous of him so she was nervous to approach him. Dr. Sheriff has treated my dog Lucy for 5 years now. Previous to being with Value Vet he treated her at another clinic which was close to my home. Now I drive from Hollywood to Canoga Park just to see him to treat Lucy. All her life she has been sickly with hard to diagnos allergies, viruses and diseases. She has been treated by many other Vets who could not figure out what was wrong. Once finding Dr. Sheriff her life improved drastically! She now is 15 years old and is in better health than she ever was before. Although she is a Senior Dog she is full of life. Recently, a few months ago she got sick with another rare sickness and once again, within a few days, she was back up on her feet, barking and nipping again. I highly recommend Value Vet and Dr. Sheriff for your Pet's needs. He is so knowledgeable and really shows care in there needs. Also the staff takes pride in there work and really takes care......

Read Less

I recently brought my pet in for a surgery and to my surpise, Dr Moorhead is no longer working for Value Vet. They have a new doctor named Dr Sherif. I was very impressed with the care and treatment that Dr. Sherif gave my animal. He explained the precedure to me in detail, told me all the pros and cons , and explained discharge directions without all that medical mumbo-jumbo that nobody can understand. I left knowing that my animal was in good hands. I highly recommend Dr. Sherif to everyone. I read the reviews that people put on this site about Dr. Moorhead and I just want to say, Please dont let that discourage you, from bringing your pet there. The new doctor is awesome!!!!!! Read Less

I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND Value Vet in Canoga Park, especially Dr. Reid Moorhead. I had brought my pet to be examined because my pet was ill. During this time, I found Dr. Reid Moorhead to be condescending and demeaning toward myself. He spoke in vet jargon that I did not comprehend. I asked him to explain what he was talking about. He suggested I rephrase my question so he could answer it so I would understand. WHAT!!!? I am concerned about the welfare of my pet and not there to be belittled and demeaned. At times, I felt Dr. Reid Moorhead recommended additional services that were not necessary. Whether they were or not, I was not comfortable with they way he appraoched and suggested it. Dr. Reid Moorhead LACKS EMPATHY towards owners of their pets. I would highly reconsider using Value Vet for their services. On the other hand, the support staff were professional and courteous. I only wished they were the vet and not Dr. Reid Moorhead. Read Less

Dr. Feldman has been consistently competent and fair. I've been through a lot of vets who are in it for the money only, and he is definitely not. He is trustworthy, and his rates are better than any vet I've been to. He treats all animals gently and genuinely cares. I especially liked the fact that when he had a client in his waiting room that was slapping his dog with the leash, Dr. Feldman told him to stop hitting the dog and reminded him that ""we don't abuse animals or children.""
