Advanced Care Animal Hospital

Canyon Country, California
General Info
Established in October of 2012, ACAH is Santa Clarita's newest, and most advanced, veterinary facility.
The dream of Dr. Amanda Gillen, ACAH was designed with the goal of providing a one-stop medical center, with the most sophisticated medical equipment, outstanding facility, skilled nursing, and friendliest staff, to make our patient's and client's care a truly unique experience.
ACAH understands, and respects, the client-patient bond, and we care for the entire "pet-human" family unit. After all, our patients don't walk into our facility alone! We understand that in caring for them, we really are also caring for you. Clear, thorough, friendly, and approachable, are qualities that we value from our doctors to our reception staff.
ACAH is equipped to care for your pet throughout his/her lifetime, and through anything from routine wellness care, to specialized procedures- from orthopedic surgery, to chemotherapy, hydrotherapy, ultrasound, MRI, emergency and critical care, and stem cell treatment.
We have direct access to numerous specialists in all fields of veterinary medicine, from radiology, to anesthesiology, to internal medicine and oncology, enabling us to consult directly with them about your pet's case, without having to leave our facility.
The heart of ACAH, however, is its primary medical staff. Dr. Amanda Gillen has been caring for pets for half of her life. She is a rare combination of skillful clinician, and surgeon, as well as an approachable, compassionate, communicator. Having spent the majority of her career in the field of emergency and critical care, Dr.Gillen is very experienced in dealing with complex, or life-threatening, medical conditions, and is a gifted diagnostician. Her dedication to her patients, and her love of her profession, are unparalleled, and it shows!
By surrounding herself with a team of experienced, knowledgable, and caring, Registered Veterinary Technicians, and well-trained veterinary assistants, Dr.Gillen and her team will make your veterinary visit at ACAH unlike that you may have experienced anywhere else.

Absolutely horrible. These people should not be in business. Family and friends had finally convinced my friend to euthanize her 16 year old lab. She had put off it of in spite of his incontinence, pain, confusion and suffering. We finally convinced her it was cruel to extend his suffering any longer and made the appointment. After we arrived, an assistant asked a few questions and said the vet would be in shortly. After waiting nearly an hour the the assistant returned and said the vet wouldn't see us if we weren't interested in treatment. My friend had been in tears for weeks over having to make the decision to euthanize. I can not believe my friend was put through this so they could try to fleece money treating her dog who was clearly beyond help. I asked to speak to the vet but she refused to come out. Thankfully, we were able to get into Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital. What a stark contrast. A very compassionate veterinarian, Dr. Mejia was able to do the procedure. She was absolutely amazing. She was aware how hard this decision was and hugged my tearful friend as her dog, Charlie, passed. I don't want to end on a negative note but I cannot stress how terrible Advanced Care Animal Hospital is. I'm going to look into who regulates vets to see if I can file a formal complaint. They should NOT be in business. Read Less

Dr. Gillen has been a great doctor to my two Chihuahuas....one has been through some tough times in the past year and half and the doctor and her staff (Debbie who I miss, and Jenn) are amazing. (There is also a new staff member who's name excapes me right now but has been sooo informative to me, who I look forward getting to know!)  My babies are never afraid to go in for a visit, I love the fact that they treat them as one of their very own; With love and compassion!!!!  That is hard to find these days. April 2016 one of my babies had to have bladder stone surgery, doctor Gillen did a phenomenal job, and her amazing staff kept me updated throughout the day on her recovery process. I am comfortable knowing that this vet is in my local area, they have great hours.... their response time to calls is awesome and even my silly/worried questions they answer with empathy.  Advanced care animal hospital- I'm proud to say is my Veterinarian. This hospital is very clean and does not have the bad odor you sometimes walk into. The receptionists are kind as well as the veterinary technicians. I appreciate that they carry recombinant vaccines for cats. That tells me they are up to date with their feline care. I have called 3 other hospitals before reaching them to ask if they carried these vaccines and none of the receptionist knew what they were or offered to find out and get back to me. This hospital is well kept, however the wait is a little long for a physical exam and vaccines, but in their defense they were busy. I would like to see them change their policy of taking the pets to the back where all the action is when vaccinating my cat. I would like it done in the exam room with her close to me. It is not good to stress out a cat before administering vaccines. Taking her from a quiet room where her owner is trying to keep her comfortable into the back room where dogs are barking and there are stress factors happening all around her is a bad idea. I would have liked to see how they administer the vaccines and that they are given according to my own standards shared by the American Association of Feline Practitioners. If you take the cats to the back, it does not build trust with your clients. How are they to even know it was done? How do I know she was not manhandled instead of using feline friendly restraint technique? She is a good cat and will tolerate vaccinations well in the room. So there is no need to stress her out. I would also like to see the Dr. spend more time educating the clients. After my cat received vaccines, we were sent to the front to pay and leave. There was no education about what to look for when it comes to adverse reactions with vaccines. There was lack of bonding with the client. I felt that the visit with the doctor was very rushed and lacked good communication to welcome me as a new client. The hospital it's self was beautiful, but the one on one personal attention was lacking. I would still recommend this clinic especially if you are vaccinating your cats. The prices are reasonable. I was surprised by the low cost of an exam and 3 vaccines. I have paid a lot more in the past for the same service. Read Less
