My cat was very sick after I returned from a trip. He had been staying at a boarding facility where cats interact together in the same room. I think he either got a parasite or was a little tramitized by the other cats. The vet at Canyon Creek let us have a same day appointment and diagnosed the problem immediately. We have been going to Canyon Creek Animal Hospital since we got our cat 13 years ago. I’ve always been pleased with the doctors and the office staff with all care, routine and critical, for which ended up to be three cats, now back down to one. They are very compassionate, and always clearly explain treatment options and risks. Their fees are reasonable and are always explained in advance. They go above and beyond to answer our many questions, and do not push to do what I considered unnecessary treatments, particularly frequent dental cleanings, (which I previously experienced another cat clinic nearby with a two-year-old cat), and they refer me to specialist as needed. I especially love Dr. Dolorico who I always make my appointments with, although in emergencies I have seen Dr. Hall, the clinic owner, and was also very happy. Took my cat Red in to get some eye drops today. She was given to me by a friend and I wanted to have her checked out and bring her up to par on anything needed. I had her microchipped there which was cool. My overall experience was great! Super clean facility and all of the staff are awesome. I made an appointment and got in right away. I'm very pleased that they recommend what's necessary and what can wait. Also too they give you options on how to handle your pets condition. All vets are very sweet and are gentle with the animals. Over 2 years CCAH has provided exemplary care for my rescue Newfie but have proven they know how to run a business as well! A. Each Vet whether your pet's primary or not takes time with you and is sincere, patient and kind B. They practice good judgement & take each situation case by case & did not charge me for a visit that they did not deem necessary C. Are competitive with internet website pharmacy prices but also have no problem working with them and don't guilt you to death for using them!! D. Fill out your Pet Insurance Paperwork for you -- even offered to fill it out for me for the past year!! E. Understand busy schedules, squeeze you in when you're late when possible and process scripts lightening fast F. Take their time with you on the phone G. I have been taking my dog to Canyon Creek for a few years now. I had been unhappy with my previous vet and was looking for an office where the vets work with you on what you need instead of just sweeping in and telling you what they're going to do.  I really have liked all of the doctors and staff that we have met at Canyon Creek. My dog is not a happy girl when she goes to the vet, and they have been very patient with her, even once suggesting we drop in sometimes just to visit so that she can equate the office with some non-traumatic experiences too. They also take us back to an exam room pretty quickly and let me check out from the exam room because they know she doesn't like other dogs and the waiting room can be hard for us. This review is overdue. Our nine years young mini-schnauzer required extensive dental work several months ago. I am, like all lovers of pets, extremely attached to my baby boy Willie.  Although we had his teeth cleaned at our home on a regular basis, as recommended by a vet with whom we no longer have a relationship, this same vet FINALLY told us that Willie need to have HALF OF HIS TEETH REMOVED!  After we recovered from that news and telling our vet how displeased we were, we judiciously evaluated vets that specialized in dental care. We selected Canyon Creek Animal Hospital based on reviews and their friendly, caring staff.  I was TERRIFIED about the administration of the anesthesia and worried my Willie might not wake up.  Dr. Betty Hall recognized and understood my anxiety and did everything conceivable to reassure me.  She also called me during the procedure to keep me updated on her progress. Not only that, she sent me a text with a picture of Willie with his head up as soon as he woke up from the anesthesia.  Willie came through the procedure with no adverse issues or subsequent problems and he acts like a puppy again.  Of course, I came undone with relief when I received her text and will be forever grateful to Dr. Betty for her extraordinary care of Willie AND ME. The level of care is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. Dr. Hall always takes the time to explain everything and gets to know your pet. Recently, my lab passed away and the way the staff handled the end-of-life care for my pet was absolutely incredible. I've been going to Dr. Hall since she was part of another practice in Carmel Valley back in the 90s. I could tell how great she was with animals then so I followed her when she moved to Carlsbad to open her own practice. It's a bit of a drive, but it's worth it when you know the doctor treats your pet the same way she would her own. Betty Hall DVM is intelligent, caring, fair and funny (at least I get her humor!) The staff at Canyon Creek are always helpful, friendly, professional and empathetic when you're dealing with some of the harder decisions one must make when caring for an elderly or sick pet. I had a Sheltie who made it to almost 16 years old thanks in part to the great care Dr. Hall and her team provided over my dog's long life. I wasn't sure about getting another dog after that, but after 2 years passed I knew it was time to fall in love again so the first thing I did was check to see if Dr. Hall was still accepting new patients and luckily for me she was! And I found a great dog sitter in Carlsbad not too far from Canyon Creek Animal Hospital and come to find out - Dr. Hall is their dog's vet, too! They just love her as well! You would be wise to check out their clinic - whether you're in Carlsbad or even if you're not, like me. It's well worth the drive. Read Less

My Fur Babies have been going to Canyon Creek Animal Hospital for many years. My Dogs are 81/2 and 9. They take such great care of the kids and are very conscientious in all that they do at the hospital. The Staff is so kind and always there to help. I am there quite often, I order heart guard medicine and vitamins from them yearly. Dr. Hall is my Vet. She is truly a great Doctor and handles the dogs beautifully. Every time we bring him back for his appointments, everyone is so knowledgable and kind! Stevie likes going back to see all of his friends there who helped raise him for the first 8 weeks of his life! Everyone who works there is always so patient and understanding and wiling to take the time to answer all of our questions and make sure Stevie is comfortable. I have had the same Vet for 15 years and just tolerated the inconvenience, the lack of customer service, and the lack of proactive management of my Cat's health. I decided to check out Vets closer to my house. I selected Canyon Creek Animal Hospital primarily because they have several doctors on staff, each of the doctors are highly trained in all areas, each of the doctors is also a pet owner, and each of the doctors has a passion and love for all animals. I have been going to Canyon Creek now for almost a year and I am extremely happy. They make you feel like part of the family. Everyone is super attentive to both us and our cat. What's even a major plus for us is that we get a call once every few months checking in on our Cat. There is no sales pitch or request to bring our Cat in. The are just legitimately interested in her health. I love the customer service, the love they show our Cat, the prices are much fairer than other places I checked out, and the doctors are super friendly and follow up with you personally on the phone after each visit. I am a true believer that all decisions should be made based on the facts, as the facts speak for themselves. The true fact is, Canyon Creek Animal Hospital is the best Vet I have ever been to. My cat is 10! I have been to several places and seen numerous vets. This place is just awesome. From answering the phone in a timely manner to make sure the pharmacy has the prescribed  meds on stock BEFORE calling it in. Easy to make an appointment. Place is clean and friendly. I was referred to Canyon Creek over a decade ago by my (at the time) co-workers husband who is a vet for the county shelters. It has been the best referral. I love Dr. Hall and Dr. Dolorico. They are so compassionate and truly care about their clients and their pets. They are low pressure, explain ALL your options and do not push you for the most expensive treatment option. Quite the oposite in fact. They are also open to having you seek alternative, holistic treatment options which is a must for me. All my pets are raw fed, and while they can't advocate for this type of diet they do in fact see it's benefits and never give me a hard time about it. I have referred countless people to them and all feedback has been positive from those referrals. Can not recommend them highly enough. We have been going to this clinic for about 3 months now.  The staff is friendly and caring and the place is cute and clean.  The doctors have been careful about diagnosing without proper testing.  Once the testing is done, they both call with very long emails discussing the situation, the test results and possible treatment protocols. That is impressive as these calls are typically after hours.  We have a greyhound that has now turned 9 years old and starting to have blood pressure problems, kidney ailments and the like.  We hope we can stabalize these issues and keep him around for a long time.  He is our sweetheart. Yet, these tests become expensive as they need to be repeated to determine if the treatment is working.  Perhaps it is good to start pet insurance early on..for us, it is too late.  We do have to comment about $32 to take a dogs blood pressure, we thought that was a bit expensive! I hope we can offer another star in the near future based on the final outcome! Read Less

I have been bringing my two labs here for several years now and see Dr. Dolorico most of the time.  She is very thorough, always spends a lot of time with us and never rushes us.  She'll answer all of our questions and we have been extremely happy with the care and service.  Both of my dogs have been speyed and my older one has had two very minor surgeries (a cracked tooth and a small cyst).  I had two additional experiences with this clinic outside of my own two dogs. My son had purchased a puppy from someone in San Diego.  Long story short, it was a scam and the dog had probably been brought in from Mexico.  Just a few days after bringing it home, the dog got very, very sick.  This was right before Thanksgiving a couple of years ago, and they let me bring the dog in several times.  When they found out it was Parvo virus, and a virulent strain, they told my son the dog would probably not survive the treatment and it might be best to have her euthanized.  They were very compassionate the entire time and although it was a horrible experience for my son, they were very professional and also very compassionate.  They even remembered to call us at home and suggest that my own two dogs get a Parvo booster just because they had been exposed to such a terrible strain.One other time I found a small dog in Del Mar who was matted, flea infested and so thin.  I called to see if I could bring her in before I took her to my home (with my other two dogs) and they fit me in right away.  They gave her a clean bill of health, vaccinated her, gave her a treatment to get rid of the fleas immediately.  I eventually found her a wonderful home, but they really helped me out and they have a rescue physical price that is discounted.I have been extremely happy with this clinic and its doctors. This is the BEST experience I have ever had with a vet.  My husband and I moved to Carlsbad 6 months ago from MD and bought a Boston Terrier puppy one month after moving here (our first "baby" as a married couple).  After doing my research I chose Canyon Creek based upon the wonderful reviews I had seen and the positive experience I had on the phone with the receptionist when I called to schedule our first puppy visit for Doakes.  Not only are they extremely friendly and helpful on the phone, but as soon as you walk in the reception area is smiling at you, welcoming you and your pet.  We were lucky enough to have Dr. Rani Reuter as our doctor for our first puppy visit.  She is so friendly, knowledgeable, and Doakes absolutely loved her! Doakes is actually happy when we pull up to Canyon Creek, partly because he knows the staff there (who are wonderful!) will spoil him just as much as we do!  We had all of his shots done within the first 4 months, and just yesterday at 6 months had Doakes neutered (Dr. Reuter performed the surgery).  My husband and I were worried all day about him, but of course Dr. Reuter called to let us know he was doing great and everything went well, and even asked before she did it if it was OK to pull a baby tooth he still had in his mouth that needed to come out.  When we went to pick up Doakes that evening all of the staff said he was such a sweetheart, said they had been holding and walking with him off and on through the day and loving on him.  It is SUCH a relief to know that your pet is being loved even though you yourself aren't there. They are very clear in their pricing for everything, they give reminder appointment cards AND call a couple days before the appointment to remind you, and even give discounts for being a "responsible pet owner." An elderly Golden Retreiver that had hip displasia , a Pekingneses that required extensive dental care, and a Min Pin that required neutering. The staff is highly experienced and caring.
