We have been searching for a vet since moving from Venice to Carlsbad. After visiting a few different clinics we found our vet after meeting with Dr. Runyan at Carlsbad Animal Hospital. We are monthly visitors and are always treated well, Punkin has a chronic condition that needs treating on a regular basis. I have been coming here since 2012 and have always had a good experience. Veteranary Hospitals are a very personal preference, some are not always a good fit, however, I have found CAH to be top notch and very sensitive to my and my dogs needs. It is always a pleasure. I am moving from Vista to Carlsbad. I have gone to ABC Veterinary Clinic in San Marcos since I moved to California in 2005. They saw my best friend in the world, George. (Heeler) from day 1 until we put him to sleep in 2014 at age 15-years-old (very compassionate and sweet - Thank you, Dr. Adam Martin). I still have his companion Saddle (English Pointer) that is 16-years-old and still kicking. I loved the two vets, Doctors Kaplan and Martin at ABC; however, due to the distance, I needed to move Saddle's treatment. I was so nervous today. I have spent **tens-of-thousands of dollars** for both dogs individually and I am known for my Mamma Bear attitude. Saddle has Addisons' Disease which is very expensive to treat but gives her a long and normal life if treated correctly. At CAH, I initially was greeted by the front office staff (I did not get names but they were wonderful) and the Veterinarian Technician, Kilistina. Saddle was at ease as she loves The Village because we have Lady Days there and the facility was very calm and Kilistina was the epitome of comfort for the dog.We met the vet, which unfortunately was a man (Dr.Livezey). Saddle is not fond of men and I was concerned; the only male vet she loved was Dr. Martin at ABC (he is magical, BTW! He was my Good Boy George's vet but saw Saddle a few times.) She was primarily treated by Dr. Kaplan and the two ladies were in sync over the years! My fear was without Dr. Kaplan, both the dog and I would not adjust; Dr. Kaplan has an uncanny connection with this old nutty hound dog (and ME!!) and I love her as a Dr. and a person. Separation anxiety ensued.......I am happy to report that Dr.Livezey's approach and manner put the dog completely at ease and he spoke to us directly while giving her assurance that he was there for her while paying attention to my knowledge of her history and health. The prices were on par with her treatment and I am so happy to be part of the community. No hard sell but good info and education. I was given choices, priority, and honored as the one that knows my dog's needs. House-calls are part of the service and I will need it in the future. She is sleeping soundly tonight as will I. We do not live in Carlsbad, but came to this area for the long Easter weekend, and brought our cat Bentley. The kind staff talked with me over the phone calmly and asked pertinent questions, and offered to have Bentley seen on an emergency basis. I chose to make a first available appointment. Dr. Nansi Laing, the covering Vet for the holiday weekend was so kind, calm and thorough. I loved her! She was so good with Bentley too. Later that afternoon, Bentley was back to normal, ate his dinner, and used the litterbox. We were so happy and grateful. I am relieved Bentley is okay, and nothing major was diagnosed. I am also grateful the blood work came back without showing anything to be of real concern. Dr. Laing called me the following morning and shared her thoughts with me. She was relieved to hear Bentley was back to his normal self. I love the Carlsbad Animal Hospital! I wish we lived in Carlsbad! Thank you all for taking good care of Bentley! Thank you Dr. Laing! I recently moved to the area, and was referred to Carlsbad Animal Hospital by a friend, and was very impressed with every aspect of my dealings with them.. very polite, courteous and friendly on the phone when scheduling my visit.. the office is very clean, staff is exceptionally nice and accommodating.. and the vet that we saw was outstanding! They really take the time to get to know my dog, and her history.. I didn't feel like I was just rushed through so they can get to the next animal...I arrived 10 minutes early, and they saw me right away - love that! My dog is usually very anxious, and they were very patient with her and able to make her relax and feel comfortable with them... totally worth the 40 minute drive, and the fact that they are open late and on weekends is a bonus.. wait, for new patients initial exam is one dollar!! This is the most compassionate and animal loving group of people who have the ability to understand everything. They just have a way of making you feel as if your pet is their pet too. They did not listen to me that I had tried other diets and it was doing no good for her. They wanted to do all of these expensive procedures on her as well, pushing new machines at me. They focused on the cost so much. Everything they suggested increased the cost of the visit further. I stressed to them how tight my budget was and that if my cat was suffering I wanted to have her put to sleep. This vet refused to respect that I owned this cat. She would only do what she wanted to her not what I did. In the end if I did not do the astronomically priced procedures they would not treat her. I refused to let them touch her again and walked out of the vet's office. I highly recommend no one use this vets office. They only care about the money coming in and how much money they can milk you for not the well being of your animal. They will not listen to you or what you think is right for your pet.Read Less

After years of searching and 3 vets later finally found my fur baby's doctor. Took her to see Dr. Livezey. He took a look at her said what he thought the problem was. After her lab work came back and confirmed his suspicion! Now she will get the treatment she should have been getting all along. He was knowledgeable and very caring! Friendly staff too! This staff here is very familiar with us I'm sure as we have a large fur kid family but they've always been wonderful especially Dr. Livezey with treating Jack's chronic renal failure, definitely one of the most difficult things I've been through with a pet. I had a recent emergency with my beloved Australian Shepherd on March 17, 2012. I did not have a local veterinarian and drove to the nearest to my home clinic which was open on a Sunday. I thought my 12 1/2 year old dog had had a stroke as he was unable to walk, etc. From the moment we drove into the parking lot, a technician met us at our car and led us to a room. Within moments Dr. Thomas Livezey came in the room to examine my dog. His gentle demeanor and knowledge immediately put me at ease in a very stressful situation. He examined my dog and talked to me about possible prognosis, etc. We agreed to further testing to determine exactly what was going on. Through the course of the next week Dr. Livezey's follow-up in answering any questions/concerns I had were immediately responded to. I have worked as a Veterinarian Technician in the past, and my sister is a Veterinarian out-of-state. The professionalism and personal attention from all staff including receptionist etc. are unsurpassed in my opinion. 2 years ago I was lucky enough to have Dr. Singh from Carlsbad Animal Hospital tend to my elderly feral cat. The lab tests and treatments he ordered were not excessive considering the severity of my pet's illnesses. Had the experience stopped there, I would have given the hospital 5 stars. Unfortunately, Dr. Singh has since left. One year after having such a good experience with CAH I brought my 7 month old kitten in with vomitting to make sure he didn't swallow a foreign object. After an x-ray confirmed he just had severe gas, they wanted me to spend $700 on extra lab tests(which on the price estimate listed as ""senior lab"") just to make sure nothing else was wrong. Strangely enough those lab tests were rediculously more expensive than what I had spent on my terminally ill cat 1 year ago. I often wonder if Dr. Singh left that establishment because the owners were trying to get their vets to push ""sales"". Just a note, it's been 8 months since I refused extra tests on Bailey and he's perfectly fine. If I felt in my heart there really was something wrong with him I would have spent that money. But my intuition was telling me something wasn't right, and I have since then discussed this with other CAH defectors who felt the same way since Dr. Sing left.. Read Less

We found a cat with it's collar caught around it's stomach. When we called the owner, they said the cats been gone for two months and they could not afford the vet bills so they did not want it anymore. We could not just stand by and watch this cat die. We called the Carlsbad Animal Hospital as it is right behind our house to see if they would save the cats life. They said they would charge us 52 dollars just for the examination, and then whatever other charges on top of that to save the cats life. This is not our cat and it infuriates me that an animal hospital would not want to save the life of an animal. This is a horrible vet that only cares about money. I took my adopted cat here when I first got her and they ripped us off when we took her in for our ""free"" examination that ended up costing us over 300 dollars. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! Though everyone was nice, it almost seemed false in the sense that they just wanted you to feel good about taking your money! Don't get me wrong; they're great if money is not a concern. But I feel like they did not respect my budget. I felt taken advantage of after I paid my bill. *They ran tests before or while disclosing prices so you don't have time to think it through.*Dispensed medication before disclosing prices.*Did not disclose urgency or level of necessity of tests, though I did ask. *Didn't provide less-aggressive or less-costly solutions for those on a budget. I brought my dog into Carlsbad Animal Hospital as an emergency patient. I was so scared my little Bailey had just been attacked at the dog park. Aso soon as I parked my car one of the girls was outside there to help. Once inside, I was greeted with a warm, caring group of people. Everyone was so kind, and looking out for me to make sure that not only Bailey got the best care but me...her scared to death mother was treated amazing as well.
