The Doctor did not pull punches with us about our cat. He was very honest and sympathetic. HIGHLY Recommend. My guess is, if he could have done something, he would have. Other staff was excellent!

I am so UNHAPPY/SAD. I took Bear to Castro Valley Animal Hospital because he was not eating. He was diagnosed with hepatitis versus a liver mass. The treatment plan was to give him IV fluids and vitamin B complex for 3 days, hoping that it was hepatitis. The IV fluids and vitamin B would flush the toxins out of his system, making Bears appetite return. Day 2 in the hospital, we were asked to make chicken and rice for Bear and bring to the hospital at 6.30 PM. We were so excited to see and try to feed Bear. When we arrived, we were told that they just started his IV fluids and could not see him. The doctor also informed us that it is best that we don't see him because he gets too excited and it takes hours for him to calm down. I reluctantly agreed, but since we're going to pick him up the next day. I agreed to not seeing our Bear. Day 3 in the hospital, I received a call from the doctor stating Bear has taken a turn for the worst. I rushed from work to say goodbye to Bear but by the time I arrived, it was too late our Bear was GONE. WTH......Did I just pay $2000 to have our Bear euthanize?I have so many uncertainties and regret's. RIP Bear, I pray that you did not suffer. Read Less

Horrible Experience! DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!! Dr Brar is not a compassionate doctor and doesn't care about your pet... he is all about the $$$. Please...Do not go here!!!! It is filthy, the walls have animal hair all over them, and there was blood on the floor of the room we were placed in. I can't believe there are some good reviews on this hospital they are either fake postings from people working for the Dr ...or plain suckers!! I had to call the Sheriff's Department to get my cat out of their office after the Dr refused to bring him out to me because he knew I wanted to review the charges and get his temperature taken before I left. He hid in the back room making his assistant come out and say he was too busy when nobody else was even in there at closing time. My poor cat was held hostage!!!! I finally just told the girl to bring my cat out to me and I would contact the Dr at a later time. She still delayed bringing my cat to me. It was bizarre! After 25 minutes I demanded she bring my cat out. I then asked her if he had died and they were afraid to tell me. She (Michelle) got an attitude with me and stood with a smirk on her face then ran back to the Dr again. It was a horrible feeling. When she came out, once again, without my cat I then said that I had paid the day before the full $1050.00, this is illegal.... and I was calling the Police! I think this scared them because I had been so passive prior. Dr Brar then finally came out of the back room when he heard this information and had a terrible attitude with me and was ranting and yelling in his Indian accent. I couldn't understand anything he was saying. He was so hostile that I started recording him because I was very much afraid of this man. He was so enraged. After 35 minutes of asking for my cat I finally called the police. When the officer arrived he talked to me and got my story and then went in and talked to the Dr and asked why my cat wasn't given to me yet. The doctor then lied and claimed he didn't recognize me as the person who dropped the cat off and needed my ID and credit card to confirm. Big fat liar!! He was just being vindictive at this point. Playing games. While we were waiting for my cat, the officer told me that he has been out to his office more than once for similar incidents and there is obviously an underlying problem going on there. He then told me of a good vet right up the road to go to. After a long hour and a 1/2 ordeal the Sheriff finally was able to get my cat sent out to me at nearly 10:00 at night while I was exhausted and had come straight from work and needed to get home to my other pets. My poor cat was shaking and starving. He was so scared. To sum it up...Dr Brar is very rude and arrogant.. He didn't even take my cats temperature or check his heartbeat in the short 2 min he spent checking his abscess. Immediately after the Dr left the room the receptionist was in with 3 huge estimate sheets. All about the $$$. Do not take your animals here!!!! I was terrified and no animals should have to go through this!!! I will now take my cat to get his stitches out at another vet and get a full exam that was not performed in the large fee I paid. I will be taking Dr Brar to small claims court to recover the procedures that were not performed. I'm worried about other animals being seen by this man. Read Less

If you love your pets, I strongly recommend avoiding this place. I normally don't write reviews like this but I would hate for anyone's pets to be harmed because their health isn't CVAH's primary concern. For my last visit I took my cat in because she threw up grass but then ate her breakfast and was playing/acting normally...but I wanted to be sure.
They brought me out a $900 bill and told me she needed x-rays, full blood work-up, an overnight stay, a catheter, plus two injections and take-home medications. When I asked why this was necessary, I was told "I didn't want to ask the doctor because he might get offended." When I asked what they were looking for with $300 blood work, I was told "We don't want to tell you because you might Google it and scare yourself."
I paid $450 of the bill and got two second opinions who told me I'd been sold on unnecessary treatments. CVAH intentionally over-treats to make money and will not attempt to justify it. Also, I've been going there for over a year and got blood-work done twice - both times I had to call 3+ times over the course of a week to get a response. Please consider Canyon up the street instead.
Also - please note that they were closed and recently reopened under new ownership. Other vets in the area have told me the turnover from this place is really high. Read Less

I'm never coming here again. I took my greyhound with a cut on her face here, because of the free examination and they wouldn't honor it. The doctor didn't even examined her, just looked down for a quick second and said she need surgery. I said I couldn't afford what they were quoting me, and then I said we should just put her down because she's 11, which is old for a greyhound and she's having other problems. Then they told me that it was going to be the $100 less then the amount for the surgery, and we should just ahead and do the procedure. I said I'm gonna take her to my vet I'm will see about that. After going to the San Leandro veterinary clinic on E. 14th St. they quoted me half of the amount that they wanted to do for the surgery, and gave her a full examination. I'm the last person you should have asked to write a review for you. I will never ever ever return to your office. My friends puppy was hit by a car and was seriously injured and I had to be dropped off at the vet by a sheriff had no money or anything on me and I needed to get a ride to my car to get my purse and the vet made me take my screaming puppy with me. He said "he would not see her until I had money to pay upfront. I could not believe that he could be so cruel. I ended up leaving her just so I could go right up the street and he ended up calling the police on me. I came right back to find the police there. I paid $400.00 dollars to find out she was going to have to be put down. The hours are great and you can always get an appointment but I didn't have the best experience. After seeing a vet there, I got a prescription for my cat. When it later came time to renew the prescription, I had the hardest time getting the same prescription. The receptionist told me I didn't have to see the vet again and could take care of getting a new one. Each time they sent a prescription it was missing information. I had to call several times to fix it each time and told them what was missing. She later told me it wasn't their job to indicate a strength for the prescription. That the pharmacist would decide. What? Doctors decide the strength for a patient and I needed to get the ball rolling on this prescription for my cat two weeks ago earlier!Read Less

Also - please note that they were closed and recently reopened under new ownership. Other vets in the area have told me the turnover from this place is really high.

When I asked why this was necessary, I was told "I didn't want to ask the doctor because he might get offended." When I asked what they were looking for with $300 blood work, I was told "We don't want to tell you because you might Google it and scare yourself." I paid $450 of the bill and got two second opinions who told me I'd been sold on unnecessary treatments. CVAH intentionally over-treats to make money and will not attempt to justify it. Now and forever more I will always go to San Leandro pet, and I will never go back to this place again. Read Less

My Maine Coon 2 yr old male was in renal crisis when this fabulous hospital was recommended to me by a wonderful sales rep who works at Unleashed in San Leandro. This was a Sunday morning and I was given an appt. immediately and seen within 1hr of calling. As a retired RN I was most impressed by the professionalism, knowledge and excellent care by the vets there. I plan to use this hospital for regular care of both my Maine Coons going forward. I am impressed that the hours of operation are open 7 days a week from 8am to 10pm . Read Less

We have taken our cat here for over a year now and my wife and I could not be happier! All of their prices for exams, treatments and medicine are the best around by a wide margin. We are getting another cat and will not be changing our veterinarian anytime soon, all that could change that is if we were to move. I highly recommend this establishment to any animal owner looking for a place to take their furry friend!Read Less

The vet wanted another $150.00 dollars to put her down and I didn't have it and he ended up calling animal control on me for neglect. I had given him every dime i had and it wasn't even my puppy so I hardly neglected the puppy.Read Less
