Go elsewhere! The only reason I remained in this vet hospital is because of Dr. Moffatt and I no longer get to see him. Instead I see someone else in the name of Elliott and he isn’t as knowledgeable as Dr. Moffatt is. Also, they have a new software system in place that makes you wait about an hour extra for nurses to fully understand it and it also switches the 1 year vaccines to 3 and vice versa. I transferred to another vet closer to me for much less of price since my visit yesterday. Read Less

In the past year we have taken 4 of our pets to Grove Way Vet. Whether its a checkup for a new dog, getting an emergency flea remedy or sadly dealing with death, I couldnt have asked for a better group of professionals. *Super friendly staff*Informative Doctors*Honest with pricesI went in today with my French Bulldog for some concerns with her ears among other stuff. Long story short Dr. Elliot was very detailed and informative towards all of my concerns and questions. What I appreciated the most is that both the Dr. and the assistants were very honest, they told me what the issue was with my pet, but at the same time they also both told me what is likely needed and what is not in terms of treatment. They understood that I did not want to pay for services or treatment that is most likely not needed rather than racking up my medical bill.Also big kudos to Kelly, one of the assistants there. Avoid. A week after their blood tests on my rapidly declining dog,  they refused to do a timely ultrasound because Moffatt was busy doing paperwork all day. During Grove Way regular hours I was forced to go to emergency vet, costing me $2,000 more (ER rates + redundant background checks) for ultrasound that showed huge tumor so day of stressful clinic & euthanasia only option for 15 y.o. best friend. I've been here twice with my dog Dolce to see Dr. Hoffman. Staff are all very warming and Dr. Hoffman is patient with my dog. I can't help but believe dogs have a sixth sense to both other canines and humans. My Dolce has quite variable reactions and interactions with humans and dogs...it's almost like she senses who are "good" dogs and "good" people. She gets nervous of new people and can lead to barking and tension in her body so when both visits with Dr. Hoffman turned out better for Dolce (and me!) than I had expected, I was very pleased. I cannot recommend this vet practice enough for exotic pets! Dr Moffatt and his staff are personable and well informed. I had 100% confidence that my tortoise was in capable hands, despite this being my first visit here.  Dr Moffatt spent time helping me understand the options and he was open to hearing my care suggestions. I didn't feel he rushed through the visit, even though I was FORTY minutes late for an end of day appt (due to horrible Mission Blvd traffic). My tortoise was quite sick and I was concerned they wouldn't see me so late. But I was relieved that they saw me with no irritation for being late. THANK YOU!I read a Yelp complaint made about a reviewer having to wait 1/2 hour before being called back. I work in the human medical field and can say that this situation is impossible to avoid in any practice. Your vet and techs are very busy helping someone else's loved pet and when it comes your turn, they will do the same for yours. The alternative would be "conveyor belt" impersonal standard service. First time here.  We have another vet we usually go to, but we wanted our dog, Cordell, to be euthanized soon and since we live in Castro Valley, too, I thought we'd try Groveway since they are affiliated with the crematorium.They were able to take us that same day, but I have to say that the wait was over a half hour.  I was on time, a little early, too.  I found the sign in the waiting room a tad hypocritical, as it proclaimed that if one was late ove 10 minutes for the appointment, that it may be rescheduled.  Agreed, but let's practice what we preach.I've had a other pets put to sleep before, but this is the first time that a catheter was used.  I don't know why, but that's what happened.I found Dr. Hoffman to be kind and caring.  I surely appreciated her gentle way.  She was very patient with my nervous husband who normally doesn't attend funerals and pet euthanasia. Spent nearly a thousand dollars here only for the vet to tell me he didn't find anything with the ultrasound, nor the follow up ultrasound under sedation. I understand the limitations of detecting issues with this method, but I wish he had recommended seeing an ultrasound specialist after our first visit, and before taking my money a second time. The repeat visit provided zero answers or clarity to my dog's condition. Also, gave my dog the worst razor burn after shaving his belly for the initial ultrasound. It was so bad it ended up getting infected he was scratching so crazy despite putting creams and wraps around his midsection. The razor burn was still an issue though not as bad the second time, but this was likely a response to me pointing out how bad it was the first time. Read Less

I've loved this vet ever since Dr. Moffatt spent an hour and a half literally getting down on the floor with me to help me decide how to treat my very, very sick, possibly dying, puppy. They take their time to listen to pet parents and explain what is likely going on with your pet so that you can make well-informed decisions. 3 years and 3 pets later, we've received excellent care every time. Until 2 weeks ago my only experience with this vet office has been when my cats were aged and ill, too infirmed to drive all the way to their regular vet. The staff was amazing, they were kind, compassionate, and allowed us grieving space when needed. The doctors have always been friendly, compassionate and willing to help explore options before euthanasia (Truth be told, though, by the time we had made the decision to go to Grove Way we already knew the outcome.) We now have a new puppy, his first visit 2 weeks ago was lovely. Again, the staff was friendly, they were very clear with us that we should not put the puppy on the ground because he was not yet vaccinated and we wanted to avoid any grown dog germs. The doctor was friendly, he connected with my son and husband, and made us all feel comfortable with this new journey (first family dog). Failed to recognize Mast Cell Tumor in my cat, saying that bump on his skin is "healing", even without performing the needle aspirate (just google mast cell tumor - that's the first thing that every vet does first, when dealing with skin bumps). I've been here few times and they always were kinda over-friendly, which always seemed strange. They like to recommend a lot of optional procedures to rise the cost of the visit and on their forms even ask you for your occupation and employer. I agree with another reviewer that Groveway just tries to squeeze as much money from you as possible, but I don't see this as something particularly bad, as long as it's done through painless additional procedures recommendations. The fact that they totally failed to diagnose deadly disease, WHILE recommending this nonsense is absolutely another story. Will never use Groveway's services again... Read Less

Groveway Veterinary Hospital is one of the best in the East Bay! I have brought my pets here for several years, and am very pleased with the patient care. And they show compassion for the pet owner too! My most recent visit was with my cat who had lost significant weight over a short amount of time. Amber was very helpful in arranging for an appointment that fit my schedule. Office staff at other doctor/dentist/medical offices often say they will contact you if there is a cancellation, but you usually don't hear from them. Well, in Groveway Veterinary Hospital's case, they mean what they say! I was contacted, and within an hour my kitty was being seen. Dr. Weber was professional, yet friendly, and provided an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. Made an appointment, arrived before scheduled appointment, waited in room 25 minutes for Dr. Dr examined my dog and was in the middle of discussing plan with me when she was called away "just for a minute" to look at another pet and then almost 20 minutes later the vet tech, not the Dr., came in to go over a list of suggested tests/medications to perform to rule out anything that might be wrong with him. Dr Hoffman was easy to talk with and understand. She is very patient with my dog Lola, who can be shy sometimes. Dr Hoffman is providing just the right amount of care that my dog is in need of. My girlfriend and I recently had a very good experience at this hospital. I am a little surprised by some of the other reviews. Our experience was very different it seems. We recently moved to the Hayward area and were recommended to this hospital by friend's. I called for an appointment and the very nice Cindy was able to squeeze me in at our preferred time after work. We saw Dr Leaper who was very thorough and friendly. We only waited about 2 minutes before being seen. The technicians, I think Jennifer and Denise, we kind and gentle to our little dog and explained all medications and recommendations. We were checked out promptly by Amanda, the Client Service Manager. She too was bubbly and informative. All in all a great experience. The front of the building is a little old and run down, but the place is bright and clean inside and the people were great. We will be back for our vaccinations in August.Read Less
