I never thought I would have to write a warning as I am compelled to do. Yesterday, April 28, 2022, I took my Bengal cat, Hunter to go for his annual dental cleaning, which I was recommended to do by the Vets at VCA to keep Hunter living a long and healthy life. One could imagine my shock to receive a call just a little 2 hours after dropping my poor kitty off stating he had gone into cardiac arrest and they are performing CPR. My heart stopped, this can't be, not my Hunter who's been healthy and taken regularly for his vaccines and wellness exams. He had been through this cleaning procedure twice already.
This procedure has less than a 1% mortality rate. I did everything I was suggested to do to keep my baby happy and healthy, he wasn't only a pet, he was a member of my family. He was treated as a son, a brother to our Yorkie, Leo, and a cousin to Zero. To be told I would get a call back in 10 mins to confirm his death because it wasn't looking good. Why did you stop calling me and not do everything in your power to save Hunter as I always asked!!
I get the return phone hoping for a miracle that there was a mistake and my Hunter is fine. Unfortunately, I get the call that says Hunter is gone and how you would like to dispose of his body. F$&* You, dispose of my Hunter's body like he is a nothing?! Through the shock and tears and asking how could this of happened as he was a healthy cat, what did they do differently, why did this happen. The response I am given "I honestly don't know what happened, but remember there is a risk with anesthesia". You jerk, you and the rest of the staff recommended this procedure to elongate his life not strip him away from me so soon!
I ultimately get the lovely invoice for $330+ for the CPR that didn't work and the $179 charge for the private cremation so I can pay the respects that a cat like Hunter deserves.
From all this please take away the following:
DO NOT Bring your pets to this hospital, it has changed from the once 5-star review I left 4 years ago to today, and it was hard to price to pay. Nothing will ever fill the void in my heart and of my family now that Hunter is gone.
I don't wish this experience on any pet owner. Please find a new vet that shows true compassion, respect, and concern for our pets who are part of our families. Read Less
