I come to Nordhoff Vet from Simi Valley because of their quality customer service and care. They were highly recommended to me by a co-worker and wanted to take my 3 yr old poodle mix for a check up. It seems like the staff is genuinely in love with their job and the animals they work with. I feel comfortable bringing Max (my pup) there. My cat has been a patient for a year.  We recently adopted a dog who has been a patient for 2 months.Nordhoff Vet is convenient, they offer quick appointments, reasonable prices, and have free parking steps from their front door in their private lot.   The area they are located in is a bit seedy and their free standing building is older but well kept.   Inside the facility appears clean and the waiting room is comfortable.  They offer complimentary coffee, candy, and pet treats.  They also have cute pet books to read while you are waiting. So far we have only used this vet for routine visits and have compared prices they charge which have been the same or less than other places we've checked.  Their price for an exam is $49 (which is the same as other vets in the area).  Prices for fecal exams, deworming, and antibiotics have been less when compared to other vets we've used.They do not offer a shot clinic.  They require an exam to give routine shots if the pet hasn't had an exam with them within the last year.   Once the exam is done, they whisk the pet into the back and give shots.  They do not give shots or medication in the presence of the owner. Overall, we consider Nordhoff Vet our regular vet but due to their limited weekend / evening hours, we have a few other vets for back-up care. Read Less

What a wonderful experience! My dog needed her annual exam, blood work and a dental cleaning. Dr. Popescu is such a compassionate, thorough and professional doctor. These qualities cascade all the way down to the technicians and the front office staff. Their state of the art equipment gives peace of mind. All results were explained to me patiently. The original owner and the newest owner are/were both excellent with my dogs. I have been taking my little friends there for at least 35 years. They are very knowledgeable and they are honest with you the caretaker. They let you know what exactly is going on with your companion, but they do it with a gentle demeanor and help you with deciding what the best options for treatment are. Even if treatment is futile, they will help you with the best advice on how to keep your little friend as comfortable as possible. Warning: sad story. I will forever have a special place in my heart for Dr. Popescu, and her staff. My skiddish kitty was putty in their gentle hands even though she had been terrified the whole drive over and not feeling well. They took their time with her, and painstakingly explained everything, giving us the truth when other vets might have put us through painful, expensive, hopeless treatments to get as much money as possible. I thought my 15 year old kitty had a tooth abscess, instead it was that aggressive facial cancer that rarely responds to treatment even in young kitties. My friend's kitty had the same thing and her vet (local) kept telling her it was an abscess, only treating with repeat visits, pills, and shots until the poor little thing expired in a lingering and painful way and broke my friend's heart. The fact that he never mentioned draining the abscess as it got worse suggests that he knew it was not an abscess, and my friend didn't know how abscesses were typically treated. My kittie's cancer turned out to be extensive and growing down her throat, making it difficult for her to eat and breathe properly. I was not rushed to make a decision, but gently, compassionately supported in doing what I knew was right for her. I know Dr. Popescu would have let me have her another day if it would have made things easier for me, but I chose to let her go without any more suffering. They gave her Prozac and let me have time alone with her. When the time came, Dr. Popescue knelt on the floor so I could snuggle my baby in her final moments while she slowly administered the shot into her little catheter (slowly so it did not give her pain in her vein). I was given the exam room for as long as I needed until I was ready to hand my sleeping baby over to the doctor. Dr. Popescu spoke softly and kindly and treated us with empathy and made a very difficult time the least traumatic as humanly possible. The last memories I have of my little kitty friend are peaceful, comforting and that she was not afraid or in pain thanks to Dr. Popescu and her staff. That memory will stay with me forever. My friend now only takes her precious babies to Dr. Popescu as well. Read Less

after years and years of searching for a good vet that i was comfortable taking my precious animals to, who didn't gouge me for money every time i came in, i was very happy to discover dr. erikson. unfortunately, he up and retired a couple of months ago to my dismay! however, after reluctantly taking my cat in today to the new vet who took over his business (dr. popescu), i was pleasantly surprised. she was awesome! very caring, knowledgeable, and took her time... and the best part was that in the end she didn't try to gouge me, like so many other vets in the past... i highly recommend dr. popescu. give her a try Read Less
