Pacific Pet Hospital is a total rip-off. At her pre exam they told me she might need 1 tooth pulled. When I admitted her for the cleaning I signed a form saying to call me before any teeth are extracted. They called me & said 7 yes 7 teeth needed to be pulled. I told them absolutely not. I gave them authorization to pull 1 tooth. They called me back 5 minutes later to tell me they had already pulled all 7 teeth. Instead of my bill being $900.00 it was $1400.00. My cat, Blue, was ill and we had done everything that could be done to diagnosis him at our local vet in North Park.  We had blood work done, xrays, enemas and meds but they felt that he needed an ultrasound.  They referred me to a vet hospital in La Mesa.  This was on a Friday morning and the first appt that I could get was at 11am on Monday.  Needless to say, I was freaking out.  My husband was out of town for work, but had the brains (duh on my part) to call around and find a Vet hospital that could give Blue an ultrasound that day.  He found Pacific Vet and was immediatly impressed with their customer service.  He spoke with Terri and Doctor Humphries on the phone.  After explaining Blue's condition, they told him to have me bring Blue in at 2:40 the same day.  I brought Blue in for his ultrasound.  Dr. Humphries made me feel very comfortable and took time to explain the plan for Blue.  After the ultrasound he explained everything that he had seen and answered all of my questions.  I also want to mention that your first visit is only $4 for the exam.  Of course the ultrasound was a lot more, but it still came out to be cheaper than the hospital we were referred to.  The real STAR in my whole experience at Pacific Vet was Terri.  She was so patient and caring.  She made me feel like she knew Blue and loved him, even though she had just met him and he was acting like a monster.  I want to thank Dr. Humphries and Terri for all of their help and special extra Thank You to Terri for all of her advice and love.  The car ride is a lot longer than I (or my cats) would prefer, but it is well worth the drive and I will be taking my boys here from now on. We have been coming hear for a few years now. We have two cats about four years apart in age. We are extremely satisfied with the service. I wish there hours were a little better. I've tried to come a few times and they were closed or there was no doctor. This last time we went we brought our oldest cat (his 6) in for some dental work, he had really bad breath and red gums. Both Dr. Humphrey and the nurse took the time to explain our options and to explain why the work was needed and what could happen if the work was done at a latter time. We felt confident that we got the information we needed even a drawing by Dr. Humphrey explaining what was wrong with our cats teeth. We decided to get his two tweet removed, a deep cleaning, and all his shots he was due for. The nurse took the time to explain the quote sheet with the cost break down. So that we knew what the total cost was going to be at the end. We removed a couple unnecessary items and were given a new qoute. Our cat had to stay there all day and my husband picked up around 5:30. He got instructions concerning after care and with the medications for pain and antibiotics. The receptionist was welcoming and friendly.  The wait time wasn't bad at all.  When they took my dog, the nurse double-checked with me on a scar on my dog's thigh, which I think shows they truly care about my dog's wellness and that they want to provide the best care possible.  I love the fact that they offer $4 physical check for the 1st timers!! I was extremely happy with the staff and vet.  Everyone was helpful and very experienced. Hello, my name is COOKIE, and I am a 12 year old Cocker Spaniel who has been going here since I was one!! I love this place and they have ALWAYS treated me with love, common sense and a great deal of EXPERTISE!! I've had routine check-ups and surgery. I have always come home a happier, healthier dog. Worst service ever. My pit was diagnosed with pyometra so they suggested surgery. So they did. My dog had surgery on a Monday and by Thursday afternoon she passed. To be clear, I brought my friend's cat here while I was cat sitting.  The little guy is on Lasix for a cardiac issue and he started having issues jumping in and out of every litterbox in the house, but not producing any urine.  The cardiologist very nicely and kindly referred me to the primary vet and that is Pacific Pet Hospital.I am fairly experienced in dealing with veterinary staff for my own pets.  I called, explained the situation and was asked if I wanted to speak with the doctor.  After saying yes, I was transferred to a voicemail.  Called back, explained again--not my cat, regular patient there, cardiac issues, Lasix, can't urinate-- and was rudely told that either I could wait for a call back or make an appt.  I made an appt.After trucking the poor little guy 30 minutes to the vet (not their fault, I get that), we BOTH had to pee like crazy!  "We don't have a restroom."  Whaa???  After pestering different staff, I started getting conflicting reports. "The restroom is in the back, it is up to the doctor to let you use it once you are seen" and "We don't have a restroom, you can go to Seafood City next door."  Really?  Where do you guys go to the bathroom?  "We go to Seafood City."Uh-huh.  Folks, if people lie about one thing, they lie about other things. Kitty was treated and the doc spoke with the owner by phone who approved everything, so the course of treatment is not mine to judge.  Last I heard, he was doing ok.But based on my experience, the lack of concern on the phone and the customer service, I will give this place a wide berth. I took my sick lovebird to them and it was the best experience I've had at any vet. The staff were all very nice. They even gave me a call afterwards to make sure my pet was better. The staff is super friendly, I always am able to schedule my dog an appointment without any problems, and I feel like my questions and concerns are always answered with care. We've gone to this vet for approximately 30 years and it just keeps getting better.  Dr. Michelle Schexneider was super gentle and awesome when dealing with our "very scared" kitties (one of which was a feral kitten I've recently brought inside).  She took her time trying to get them both to relax so she could do the exam.  I was awed by how gentle and patient she was.  Even though their pricing seems quite high they do a thorough job.  I would definitely recommend them (although I do miss the sweet gal who was at their front desk for years and years). I love Pacific Pet Hospital!! I have been taking my two Puggs there since they were 8 weeks old in 2008. Dr. Schexneider is our regular veterinarian and she is fantastic! In fact, the entire staff is wonderful and very caring. Whenever I have an issue with one of my dogs, I can almost always get an appointment with Dr. Schexneider the same day that I call. I REALLY like that. And, I also really like the Pet Discount Program offered by Pacific Pet Hospital. It helps spread the cost of the annual stuff (exam, blood and fecal tests, vaccinations, etc.) over the course of a year. I went here for the first time about a month ago. The office was very cute and very clean. My nervous dog immediately marked the front desk which was promptly cleaned up by the staff. The vet was great, the office staff was great. We left our dog for a bath and he was beautiful when we got him back. Loved this place and will go back.Read Less

I've been going to a vet in San Diego for more than 40 years. It was a long distance to drive, but I thought it was worth it. A neighbor gave me a 5-day-old pup to raise and said Pacific Pet was the hospital she recommended. I was surprised to find that their prices here were about half of what I had been paying and I absolutely could not find any fault with their service. Each person there seemed caring and efficient. While waiting there, I met two women, each of whom ran a dog rescue service. One woman drives about 20 miles to come here because of the level of service to her rescued dogs. Both women were expansive in their praise of this facility. I have actually transferred the care of my older dog to this facility, and so far, am very happy with their service. Read Less

These guys are life savers. Literally. One morning we found a cat in the middle of the road. He adopted us immediately, but he was in bad shape. Basically everything was wrong with him. Upper respiratory infection, worms, eye infection, fleas, lice, etc. He was underweight and lethargic.If we wouldn't have taken him for treatment, he would have died. Pacific Pet Hospital was able to help him immediately. They put him on an IV with antibiotics and gave us antibiotics to take home. They also took care of the worms, fleas and lice.We have now had our kitty for 7 years and hope for many more to come. Throughout the years we have trusted Pacific Pet Hospital (formerly Olympic Pet Hospital) with the care of four different animals and we have always been happy with their service and their fair prices. DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE. Used this place for my chocolate lab because of recommendation to Dr. Upton. He was great and very low-key and helpful.  The next time I went in just for rabies shot I got the "sales pitch" on how I needed all these tests and my year old dog needed teeth brushing and cleaning..yada yada. When I said I just wanted shot, Dr. Shexneider gave me big-time attitude and was very rude. Upton is ok, Shexneider is all about the $$$$$. Just went to Pacific Pet Hospital, Chula Vista, for my litter of 9 AKC Rottweilers to get their dewclaws removed and tails docked. Great deal of $25 and change per puppy and they did an excellent job!Very clean facility and not very crowded. This is a great vet for your pets. The staff is extremely helpful with any questions you may have. I have called a few times with questions and they were always able to answer them or quickly schedule an appointment to have my puppy Bruno examined. It is awesome to know that every time I go in they know my dog and always excited to see him. They have seen him since he was 8 weeks old and now he is 7 months. The prices are reasonable and they always go over treatment plan with you before they do any work. There is usually a high plan and a low plan. I found the vet on yelp and so glad I did. Read Less

Last week out much loved puppy injured himself while playing in his yard. We immediately called our usual Dr.'s office and were told that since we did not have an appointment for our emergency we could bring him in and perhaps they could work him in at som point during the day!! This was not acceptable. We then called PACIFIC PET HOSPITAL. They were able to see him immediately. What a different sort of experience, the entire staff from the front dest to Dr. Schexneider were super professional in their care of our pup. It turned out that he had a broken hip and needed immediate surgery to repair the injury. The surgery was done, we received a complete explination of the procedure along with copies of his x-rays. His Dr. called the next day to check up on him and see if there were further questions. We could not be more pleased with the care and caring we get at Pacific Pet Hospital and the entire staff. I have been going to Pacific Pet Hospital for 2 years. The doctors and staff at this hospital have given my dogs great care over and over again. I have had my dogs here for check ups, a neuter, ear problems, and even a more serious mass removal. I have been so pleased with level of service I have received. I know these doctors are busy and have many patients, but they always take the time to explain things to me and make me feel comfortable about any care my pet may need.
