I first took my dog to Rolling Hills last year for her annual check up. I don't remember the vet (I think it was a woman), but I remember she recommended I have my dog's teeth cleaned for $300. I politely declined after learning it was a preventative measure and there was nothing medically wrong. I brought my dog back this week for her annual check up, I admit 6 months late, and I doubt I will forget this vet.
Dr. Keith Hilinski was extremely rude and condescending. He told me that just by looking at my dog he knew she had Lupus and something was wrong with her digestive system because she is super skinny. I explained that she has been this skinny for the 8 years we have had her (she has the physique of a greyhound) and there have been no other symptoms to indicate a medical problem. She is extremely active (even at 8 years old), friendly, and loving. He told me again that my dog was not normal and then, "You mean that her poop is normal and she isn't vomiting?" Yup, that's what I'm saying. When he brought up Lupus, again just from looking at her, I expressed some skepticism and he asked, "Do you even know what Lupus is?" Wow. I responded accurately to which he replied, "very good" again, with such condescension it was palpable. I am not a confrontational person, so I declined the $400 blood test, paid my $200 bill for her exam, vaccine, and heartworm medication and left. The visit really bothered me so I sent him a short email expressing my disappointment with how he spoke to me. I stated I would not be returning, but would share his concerns with the next vet to review our options. I did not expect a response, let alone the 10 paragraph email I received from him. He accuses me of blaming him for my dog's problems, scolding me for not getting my dog's teeth cleaned, and for not getting the blood test. His email cites they advised of the teeth cleaning a year and a half ago, yet he failed to specify in the email that the blood test was recommended only two days before he wrote his scathing email. Whatever dude. My favorite part of his tirade is towards the end where he writes, "save your self righteous praise for the next place" I chuckle still. So please, if you are into being treated like a complete imbecile, take your pet to see Dr. Keith. It's vets like him who pray on the sympathies of loving pet owners who give honest, kind-hearted vets a bad name. Shame on you, Dr. Keith! Read Less
