Breaks my heart to write this as I’ll have to start from scratch and find a new vet but you guys have drawn your line in the sand.. a few years ago My female dog had a severe case of urine stones and I was instructed to only feed my dog a prescription dog food. Anyone who has had to give their dog a strict rx diet knows how expensive it can be. it’s over $100 for a 25 pound bag .. and for a 65+ pound dog it doesn’t last very long. After a few months I asked the vet if it would be OK to take her off the prescription food and then test her urine to see if maybe it was a fluke and it only confirmed that it was not a fluke and that she would probably need to be on prescription food to manage her stones for the rest of her life. At least I tried , no worries. Moving forward it’s been a couple years we haven’t had any issues of stones everything is great. With the supply chain shortage we noticed that all of our normal websites were out of stock pretty regularly of our food so I reached out to the vet because I knew they were a hills distributor and I asked if they had it in stock. they had one similar but not identical (didn’t have the wieght management additive) so I continued to look online and I luckily found it on the website I had never used before. This website is on the old way of things where they still require a physical prescription to be sent in (won’t do phone call) so I called the vet and I requested one. they then instructed me that I had to come in for an appointment and had to pay for an evaluation to receive a new prescription. I literally couldn’t believe it. five minutes ago they were more than willing to sell me the exact same food in person but now that I’m choosing to spend my money elsewhere they’re looking for anyway to nickel on dime me. I’m a customer six years with two different dogs that I spent over $10,000 worth of my hard-earned money on. With respect to the Crazy world around us you would think a place like this that Is dealing with a loyal returning customer would be empathized a bit on having to already buy incredibly expensive food during a crazy inflation period. A few points I would like to mention 1. Being as Dog was still currently eating a prescription food a urine sample wouldn’t do anything but prove that there were no stones still in the urine (proving the food is working) 2. A physical evaluation would do nothing to justify a RX for the food. Are Checking my dogs hips are doing to justify the rx? 3. They know my situation, I drive from well east, across town just to come to their clinic.. they want me to take time off of work, drive across town.. for what? I really just can’t believe it. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE! They gave my Yorkie 4 TIMES the amount of medicine dosage for her size. They overdosed my Dog and she almost died. She was shaking, couldn’t breathe, and throwing up. Basically like a person who OD’d on drugs. Good thing she threw up. I went back and they still wanted to charge $45 to assist my mom with the situation even though they had already given her the incorrect consultation. I would not trust them with a pet and will never be going here again and will be sure to protect as many people’s dogs as possible from going here. We had to find a new vet when we got out Klee Kai puppy as our old one had closed. Couldn’t be happier!!! Have never had an animal like to go to the vet in the 60 years I’ve had pets and the pups even had to have a series of X-rays done. They all get down on the floor to interact with the dogs.....no exam table. Highly recommend them!!! Read Less

So, I went to take my dog their today. They're actually renovating this place. They say that hopefully the new spot will be done by the mid or end of summer. They're definitely keeping busy. Working out of a trailer, they do still have tons of customers. The prices for their services are competitive, which is a good thing. What killed it the most for me, was the customer service offered. No sense of character, nor professionalism. Our appointment was scheduled for 1200, we got there around 1145, and we weren't even seen by a doc until close to 1330. I'm sorry, but that's hell of a stretch. We were constantly getting skipped over. We were so frustrated, waiting to be seen, we decided to walk out. As I was walking out, the vet tech finally told me that the doc is here (who looked like she was just walking in). Had we not started to walk out, I bet it would have been another 30 minutes for the doc to get all "settled" in. Let me just add...that it doesn't help when you're sitting in a consultation room and you could hear all the conversations that the staff and doctors are having behind the doors (same problem at the Carmel Ranch Vet location too). You could tell when a team really wants to help or just make some quick buck$. Keep looking. Read Less

Victoria Valencia and Dr. Soto were wonderful, as well as the rest of the staff. We mention them by name because we dealt directly with them, but each time we called or brought our puppy in, everyone was great and extremely helpful. We brought our 2 month old Meerabai in a very dire condition. Dr. Soto did not give us a very good prognosis, but they were willing to try. Victoria was there when we spoke to him, and was with our Meerabai all the way. They called my daughter and kept her updated. Our Meerabai is now 7 months old and doing great! Thank you so much! Decent service. Despite having to repeat myself multiple times to the same person, the service I recieved was professional. Other staff, however, were rude and pushy. One lady even almost stepped on my Shepherd, I had to jerk the leash to pull him out of the way. Service was annoyingly slow, but I can understand with construction going on. I had grooming scheduled for the next day, but was not told I'd have to pick him up four hours later until I was already dropping my pup off. When I went to pick him up I waited about thirty five minutes just for them to bring my dog out. The receptionist had to remind the nurses about my dog twice. That part didn't seem professional at all. I'm not bringing him here for a grooming again. Read Less

We are on our 4th dog being treated at South Bay Veterinary Hospital. I found Dr. Deo when my rott'nshepherd was almost ready to die and we needed a vet who would come to the house. Dr. Deo was one of the two I found. He was out of town when we needed him for that dog, so we went with the other vet, who was very caring. Afterwards we started to use that veterinary service and were dissatisfied, also with the next one we used, so I finally convinced my husband to go to South Bay Vet and we found that the staff and doctors there are friendly, courteous, kind, and very competent. Our dogs were and are all older dogs who have different needs, and the staff and doctors at South Bay Veterinary Hospital are able to provide for all, and will refer you to specialists if they think it necessary. Called here because my cat was screaming when she peed (clearly a UTI) and we needed to get her on meds right away. They were so friendly and caring. The best part was their late hours and affordable pricing. Coming home to a cat screaming and desperately trying to pee anywhere needs action right away. I went to South Bay Veterinary Hospital for the first time after one of my dogs had developed a golf-ball sized tumor on her neck. I found the tumor the first day it began growing and took her to the vet immediately, but the vet's prescribed care did not stop it from growing. After a week I began to get very nervous. I went back to my vet who told me it was a tumor. Without going into great detail, the ensuing conversation left me very nervous - both for my dog's life, and about the quality of care she was receiving. I was on the verge of allowing my vet to perform an operation when I decided to seek a second opinion. I went to South Bay Veterinary expecting to either be asked to perform hundreds of dollars in tests, or to be given an inconclusive answer: instead, I had a $44 consult with a highly knowledgeable and friendly vet who was able to both properly diagnose and to confirm the diagnosis my dog with an abscess Beyond the competence and fair pricing, I was greeted by a friendly staff who seemed to genuinely be "animal people" (lots of oohs and aahs, not only for my dog, but for other animals in the waiting room). This love of animals extended throughout the whole staff, including the doctor. Bottom line: South Bay Veterinary offers great service, fair pricing, and extreme competence. After my experience, I left my old vet and changed to South Bay permanently. Read Less

The staff are wonderful. The doctors are kind and thorough. They call you and keep you informed every step of the way when your pet is having tests, surgery, or complex diagnoses. They take walk ins without appointments and have great hours. They are open 7 days a week and holidays. The groomers are superb. All this great service and the cost is much less than other vets that aren't as good. AND they are as good with cats as with dogs (the vets and the groomers), which not all vet offices are. A+++! This place was one of the worst places I've by far gone to. The actual vet didn't seem like she knew anything about animals. They are over priced in my opinion, for what you get. I took my 9week old pup to get her vaccinations and they didn't give me the option of having them done in front of me and her deworming was done in the back. I don't like going to a vet where its just young kids around my age handling my pup I will stick to my regular vet too bad they are closed on Sundays. Also instead of buying a $260 pet pack go to the pet market on Saturn boulevard its only $22-$32 for shots and they do deworming in front of you. Also I would recommend going to south San Diego veterinary hospital for anything and those are the most professional and knowledgeable people I've ever encountered at a vet with wonderful service and great prices.Read Less

Do not go here! Dr. Deo's negligence has cost me over $1500 in surgeries. I brought my dog here for blocked tear ducts. I was given eye drops to put in both eyes twice daily. I followed all of Dr. Deo's directions, but one of her eyes became swollen so I took her back in. As soon as I met with Dr. Deo he asked me if she was wearing her E-collar the whole time. I said no because he never gave me one or even suggested it. He then told me she scratched her eye and gave me new meds. If I was given the E collar in the first place this wouldn't have happened, but I decided I would try the new meds out before I argued that point. Her eye became much worse and we had to take her back in. He informed my husband that she needed surgery that would cost $410. When my husband asked them to take into consideration that they were responsible for this whole situation, they offered him a $10 discount... you've got to be kidding. They told him surgery would be done at 2. I called them to discuss the situation around 1:45 in which Dr. Deo claimed he offered me the E collar and I chose not to get it, and they had paperwork I signed proving it. When I asked to see the paperwork he changed his story, telling me that I was not offered the E collar because the injury was completely unrelated. He then told me he refused to do the surgery (which should've already been done) and to come pick my dog up. When my husband arrived they had already drugged her for surgery and handed my husband a limp doped up dog. Since then Ive had to spend countless hours and over $1500 fixing the problem he created. I was referred to an animal eye specialist who informed me that Dr. Deo isn't even qualified to preform that big of an eye surgery, and for $400 they had no idea what he was going to do.Ive had to take her to multiple vets who were disturbed when I tell them about this experience. After looking through his notes he faxed to my new vet, he actually wrote on my first visit's notes "Rec E collar" I don't write bad reviews very often, but this man is the worst person I've ever met. We all make mistakes, it's how you fix them that shows everyone who you really are.Read Less

I have been taking pets to Dr. Deo since I was a kid with the family dog. A few years ago I moved to East County and began taking my dog to someone more local. On Friday 3/23/12, my almost 14 year old dog developed a skin infection on her face. I took her to a vet in Santee who gave her an antibiotic. On Wednesday 3/28/12 I took my girl back to the Santee vet for nausea, vomiting, lethargy, and anorexia. This Santee vet told me she was in liver failure and recommended we euthanize her at that time. Heartbroken I took her to Dr. Deo on 3/29/12, who had treated her when she was a pup, for a second opinion... I am so thankful I did. He has her admitted under his care along with the more than professional staff there who cried along side of me as I told them what has happened to my girl, he arranged for x-rays and ultrasounds and got her comfortable there for over night observation. I went in this morning to see my dog and his staff greeted me warmly as well as Dr. Deo who came and reviewed everything with me with kind words and a hug. My dog is looking good and he thinks she can go home on Sunday, 4/1/12, her 14th birthday. Turns out she had acute renal failure possibly due to the antibiotic from the other vet, who wanted to euthanize her on the spot. Dr. Deo and staff saw my old dog for the spunky teenager she is. When the other vet was ready to give up on my dog, Dr. Deo and his staff have nursed her back to health. I owe them so much. Read Less

I'm sad to see your dislike that hospital. I've been there with my pets and love the staff and service. I've learned the hard way myself about parvo. But my baby made it! In their defense, it takes 10-14 days for a pet to come down with parvo after exposure and they shed the virus in their poop 2-3 days before coming down with symptoms. So unfortuanately the day he was seen for vaccines he already had parvo. I was told there is no cure for parvo just supportive care and prayers that they pull through with the best of efforts! I wouldn't cross this hospital off your list quite yet!! Read Less

These vets are suppose to be doctors, so they should know that throwing up and not eating are symptoms of parvo, yet........ I was extremely disappointed in their services. I brought my pug to get his shots on a Saturday afternoon and by Sunday night he was feeling horrible. He was throwing up and did not want to eat. By the following Sunday he died from Parvo. The vets did not test him for parvo until the very end. These vets are suppose to be doctors, so they should know that throwing up and not eating are symptoms of parvo, yet they racked up our bill and waited till the end. My puppy was a healthy beautiful pug, they even said so when we took him for the first time. WE believe he picked up parvo here! Do not Bring your pet here! You will regret it! Read Less

Bad grooming. I took my dogs there because I needed special shampoo for one of my dogs and someone recommended to buy it there. My dogs needed grooming and after checking South Bay Vet Hospital's web site I saw that they pride themselves on offering a full line of professional dog grooming services so I decided to give it a try but It has been the worse grooming that my mini poodles ever had. Only clippers were used in the whole body and nothing was trimmed with scissors on their long hair on face or head, only the clippers were used and now their hair looks horrible. Nothing was cleaned on their private areas, ears or teeth. They charged $55.00 for each including $10.00 for teeth cleaning. It is all my fault for trusting this place only for the nice things they say on their web site, I should of taken my dogs to the Real Professional people at Posh Poodle in Lemon Grove which are very good.Read Less

I have just recently moved to S.D with my dog and kitty. I was at the dog park when another dog attacked my Popi!! The other dogs owner grabbed her dog and left before I could even make sure Popi was o.k.! Then I noticed a small amount of blood around Popis neck, I started freaking out. So I started calling around, some places wanted an additional emergency fee on the exam, some were not helpful at all!! Finally I found South Bay, the girls in the front were so nice and understanding, they got me in right away, Dr.Deo, was very knowledgable, and very caring with Popi, the tech that assisted the doctor, was so gentle with him!! I was very impressed, sometimes Popi gets a little scared and nervous in new places.I thought Popi's treatment was going to cost me a car payment!! But the nurse came back and went over everything with me,it was not only very fair pricing, it was a fraction of what i thought it was going to be!! I would recommend you take your pet here!!! Popi, and Pixie now have their very own hospital, and whats even cooler is that they can stay there over night, when I fly east to see the family!! What more could I ask for?!!! Read Less
