So I called All About Pets a few days ago for an emergency appointment for my rooster. When I woke up that morning and let the feather babies out of their coop, I noticed my roo was holding his mouth open and breathing really hard. I immediately pick him up and carry him to the water dish so see if he would drink, he did not. He would put his beak in the water and it would just pour right back out. So panicked at this point that his jaw may be dislocated I set up an appointment within the hour for a fee of ninety something dollars. That's the standard charge for an emergency I suppose. So I get the poor little guy there, they take him to the back right away and escorted me to an exam room to wait. Within five to ten minutes the vet came in and told me his jaw was fine and he was able to close it but for some reason he was just holding it open. She was very matter of fact in listing all the possible causes and seemed credible, but couldn't give me an exact diagnosis. I could have ordered an x-ray at two hundredish dollars, but I did only pay $2.50 for the chicken so...that was a no. Antibiotics were the recommended cure so I was shown how to administer them but not told why I needed two kinds or what giving them to him would fix. About thirty dollars for two types of chicken antibiotics...I really love my rooster, I'm sure some of you think I'm crazy. I was in and out in an hour, $160 later, still didn't know what happened but he's doing much better now. I gave three stars because I think charging $120 to see a sick or injured pet in an emergency is an exploitation of people's love for their animals. The actual vet could not have looked at my bird for more than ten minutes. It's outrageous and possibly why there are so many cases of animal neglect, when someone can't afford that much to take their pet to the vet, the animal suffers instead. Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking the biz or the amount of school to takes to aquire such knowledge, however, the entire duration of my appointment was an hour, minus the cost of the meds it was around $120. That's crazy. Staff was friendly too. Read Less
