I like the convient location and the fact they have Saturday hours. The staff is wonderful. I really appreciate the fact they don't try to sell you a bunch of stuff you don't need. I have elderly cats and the vet I went to before this wanted me to get monthly insurance that covered procedures that would be great for kittens or younger cats through life but my cats are 18 they don't need all that. Here they understand that my cats are old and with that comes various issues but we focus on what is necessary or what would be helpful for them instead of just trying to get more money out of me. This is the worst veterinary hospital I've ever been to. Would give zero stars if I could. Poor equipment and animal treatment. My bunny was attacked by a cat, so I brought him in because he was breathing heavily and bleeding. He was in shock and so was I as I had no idea what to do. We brought him to Dr Kahlon, he checked him up, gave him some antibiotics. The only thing he told us was that there was nothing more he could do, only give us other doctor's contact. We paid 130$ for nothing plus the doctor made us even more worried. When we brought our bunny to another doctor, we were told the antibiotics Dr Kahlon gave us only harmed our bunny and that we should throw them away. I am extremely upset with ABC veterinary hospital, those few good reviews for this hospital were probably paid for or Dr Kahlon didn't fu*k up on his good day for once. Called in this morning to see if they had time to see my cat, Ozymandias. They got him right in. He had come home the other day with a couple of what appeared to be small scrapes. They had swollen and one had opened up. Apparently he had been in a fight.Both the nurse, and the doctor were very caring, and really seemed concerned with both my pets comfort and my own. During the doctors exam, he threat he found A third store that also need to be drained. After spending a great deal of time with my cat, draining three wounds and dressing and cleaning them, giving them a shot of anabiotic's, and sending me home with two weeks worth of anabiotic's in teaching me how to properly give him a pill The entire bill was only $295.I was a bit surprised at the cost, as it was about half of what most vets would charge for this much time intensive care. I was pleased with the treatment my cat received, with the care and affection they showed him. From now on I will only take my cat to the ABC veterinary hospital. I highly recommend it to everyone. Dr. Kahlon is a very kind, professional vet.  He has "saved" my 15 year old dog a couple of times and I am so grateful to him.  I have been taking my Lab there for at least 6 years and feel completely confident that he knows what he is doing and will take the very best care for my dog.   He performed a  difficult surgery that involved an abcessed, infected tooth that had gone up into her eye socket.  I was so worried, but Dr. Kahlon did it and I had a happy dog once again!  He has cleaned her teeth several times, clips her nails and my dog is not an easy patient! I took my pet in for an emergency issue and Dr. Kahlon gave us a same day appt and was very professional and compassionate through out.  He took his time and completed all the procedures himself.  This was an emergency situation but he was very calm and unrushed.  His practice reminds me of a country clinic. He answers the phone, sees your pet, and then rings you up...and it works for me bc I like that consistent, efficient, personal, simple service.   I can't really comment about his prices but contrary to what one negative reviewer said, all of my receipts have been itemized and a computer print out.  He doesnt seem like a guy who is bilking his customers and he also doesnt seem like a guy who undervalues the service he is providing.  I was on my way to the Emergency Vet....so considering how much that was going to cost me, I feel like I saved money. I would put zero stars if it was an option. My little sister just lost her dog this evening. We were trying to find someplace to bring him so that we could have him cremated. It was 5.10PM and we called this place to bring him in... the answer we were told was that they could not see us today. That they stop taking calls for appointments after 5.30PM and that they are all booked up this afternoon. I do not understand how they are too booked to accept us dropping our dog off? This process does not require any time in a room nor with any vets. Merely to bring him in and fill out a couple forms and pay. To get this response right after we lost him was absurd and not in line with customer service values at all. Very friendly vet who takes time to give my puppy a thorough check up. His assistant is very sweet too. Glad we ignored the bad reviews and gave Dr Kahlon a try! One thing I really like is that while at many other vet offices, it is the technicians who give the shots, here, Dr K does it himself.The only thing about bad reviews that concerned me was hand written notes because I like to be organized about filing away invoices and health records. Dr. Kahlon is a very knowledgeable and compassionate veterinarian. I took my cat in when I knew there was something wrong because of his excessive vocalizing. Dr. Kahlon had an appointment available the same day, he took a urine sample, provided IV hydration and medication, he kept my kitten at the clinic for 2 hours. My kitten was diagnosed with a UTI and thankfully had no obstructions. Dr. Kahlon had the courtesy of explaining all the medication to me, even changed it knowing my cat would not take pills, and said he would give me a follow up with the blood work results. Nicest veterinarian ever! First time visit for my little dog who hurt himself and fell, called and got in right away. Extremely pleased with his bedside manners, care to my Maltese and offered a few different options. Didn't fuss over paperwork needed or anything. Gave meds right away and even had a 10% first time visit discount. Completely satisfied with prices and is much less expensive than most vets. Dr Kahlon is wonderful, and the receptionist I've met is also just so sweet. They remember my puppy & genuinely care about his health every time we come in (3x in 3months for shots). Dr Kahlon gives advice in the nicest ways possible, and is so good with answering questions I have. I take my two cats to Dr. Kahlon for all of their medical needs. He is reasonably priced and shows a lot of compassion for animals, which is one of my biggest things that I look for in a Veterinarian. Been going to him since I moved to the area a couple years ago, and he's even helped me euthanize one of my beloved fur-baby's. He was very caring and stayed in the room with me the whole time. I know that's kind of a sad story, but it's things like this that really show the caring nature of a true animal lover. Thank you Dr. Kahlon! ABC Veterinary Hospital has always given us great service.  They have always gotten us in very quickly, and their rates are very reasonable.  They're also open on Saturdays.  Most recently we've taken an elderly dog there for breathing difficulties.  He gave her a comprehensive exam, including blood tests.  She had a nasal problem with some nasty discharge, and was kind of coughing or hacking - obviously having some difficulty breathing.  He gave her antibiotics right then, and soon switched them to a more specific antibiotic once the particular condition was known when the blood labs came back, which was quickly.  They cleared up the infection, but she still had issues.  The primarily problem was that she was very old (91 years old in dog years), and her breed not having a long lifespan.  He thoroughly explained that even if further testing was conducted that identified her problem(s), the required treatment might cause her to pass (if she was required to be knocked out for treatment, due to difficulty breathing).  He carefully explained that if even such a condition was successfully treated, her age was such that her life expectancy would not change much.The Vet (G.S. Kahlon [Gary?]) spent a great deal of time explaining everything very clearly, taking substantial time, never rushing or giving the impression he was hurried or rushed.  He actually has a real cool disposition, kind of a Zen feeling I get.  That's the only way I can describe it.Bottom line is we're very satisfied with their service, and their rates.  They're right across the street from the old Post Office on East St. Read Less

I can't believe how many negative reviews this place has gotten considering that my experience was great. My poor 15 year old chihuahua had to go into emergency surgery yesterday and had to get 3 tooth extractions and she did great.  This doctor knows what hes talking about, he's actually very smart and has been doing this for a long time and was SO gentle with my dog! I feel that this place can be judged negatively by the looks because it is small and not a fancy hospital, but so what? This vet office is a great place and the doctor is great. He is always very kind and gentle with our pets. He informs us of everything we need to know about side effects and and other things.We've been going here since we got our first cat which was like 5-6 years ago, maybe more . I've taken both of my chihuahua's here for the last 3 1/2 years that I've lived in the state. I love that there is a private lot to park in and you never have to wait longer than 5 minutes to get in for your appointment. The doctor is very gentle and caring with my boys. He listened to my concerns and gave me many options on any of the ones I needed to fix. He doesn't force any products on us and didn't even seemed phased when my dog snapped at him from his "temperature check". I paid the same prices at another vet I tried in the area, so I'm sticking by my gut with this place. No complaints. A very sweet doctor AND the person who said the man smelt bad... Are you serious? I'm sure glad I didn't check Yelp before bringing my two dogs here, because I would have missed out on a great vet. Yes the office is older and outdated; so what? That means you aren't paying extra to cover their high rent and expenses. I have two dogs and when I called to make an appointment, he was able to get me in the next day. I had never been here before so I wasn't sure what to expect. But when I arrived, I could see Dr. Kahlon has a professional and caring demeanor.  During the evaluation, he was gentle with my dogs and took his time. He takes his time explaining his diagnosis and treatments, so that the patient is able to comprehend the information. The thing that impressed me is how patient he was while I asked questions-- I never felt rushed.  Not sure why people wrote such bad reviews, but it's sad to do that to someone's reputation just because they don't like paying the high cost of medical care for their pets, which I am assuming is the issue since EVERY negative reviews mentions $. Veterinary care is expensive no matter where you go--that's just a fact.   I trust Dr. Kahlon with my pets, and while you can go to a new, state-of-the-art veterinary facility, it doesn't mean that you will receive the high-quality care that Dr. Kahlon offers. So, my mother was having trouble with the vet she had been going to, and felt as if the vet office wasn't taking the best possible care of her guide dog. Instead of going to an establishment that has a better reputation upon the service dog community, she decided to go here because her friend works here.That was a mistake. It cost her $300 dollars (!!!), and today she just found out that she didn't need to buy the super expensive vet medication, and that glucosamine would have been an alright substitute for her aging dog's arthritis issues (In fact, we'd been giving that to him already). She also told me about how the vet hadn't mentioned any of the costs associated with his treatment, which I find incredibly unprofessional and slightly appalling, all things considered. Usually what would have been reasonable ended up being $300, as I said already. Hmm, seems fishy.Needless to say, she's incredibly unhappy and won't be going back there with her guide dog ever again. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone! The first sign should be the upkeep of the place. It looked and felt unsanitary, there are very outdated on their record keeping and unorganized and the doctor (to say the least) is uneducated on current clinical knowledge and experience. Lastly, through all my visits I only saw one other person bring a pet in.I brought in my beautiful cat because while on my honeymoon for a week I came back to find her skinny and not eating. I brought her in and, after several tests and blood work, was told that she may have a UTI. I was given special medication and food, which alone cost over $300. After writing everything down BY HAND I was given a total close to $600. But my cat was worth it. At the next visit she had to have several types of blood work, urine tests and a different medication was prescribed. This time my visit was cheaper--$480. Long story short, after a few more visits over 3 months, and a final total cost close to $2000, I decided to get a second opinion at Montecito in Martinez. One the very 1st visit the other doctor felt right away (in the same area that Dr. Kahlon always touched) that my cat had a tumor and yes, she ended up having cancer. By then it was large enough to have completely blocked off her urinary tract, making it difficult to urinate, causing a loss of appetite, weight and all the other symptoms associated with cancer. As I am in the health field (and experienced with cancer) I hate the fact that I overlooked these symptoms. I hope others who attempt to give Dr. Kahlon a chance take a good look around at the facility, their record keeping and how much they value and love their pet and the quality of care it receives. My loving cat Sabrina was placed to eternal rest a week later, and the staff at Montecito couldn’t have been more supportive. Read Less

I have visited this vet several times, as well as many other vets in the area. Though his office is not fancy and he does not have a large office staff, I found this refreshing. All my interactions have always been directly with the vet. With our 18 year old cat,  he was very caring. He treated him for many years providing a variety of interventions until he tearfully consented to euthanize our cat who no longer was eating and could not move. I am happy to report that I currently have two very healthy 16 year old cats and I attribute that to Dr. Kahlon. I actually felt the doctor thoroughly examined my two chihuahua's and was very gentle and caring with them.  I felt like he really listened to what I had to say the two times I went there.I do agree that it is NOT cheap.  It was actaully very expensive.  They do not have proper book keeping, or POS systems.He just writes down the costs on a scrap peice of paper and adds them up with a calculator.  Very odd, because I didn't know exactly what I was paying for!Definately not a proffessional setting, as a vet's office should be.  I have since switched vets, and do not reccomend this establishment.
