Very expensive...but price isn't ever a thought during an emergancy. I unfortunately lost my pup but the cremation was nicely done. Her ashes are in a well made wooden box with her name on the front and I also received her paw print and a poem. Sad to see her to but they were helpful. My dog (puppy) Callie was not feeling well and I had to take her in for an emergency visit. This was my first experience at Sage and from my first initial phone call I felt comfortable taking my her in for an examination. Everyone there was very knowledgeable in each position they held and and truly cared about our dogs well being and treatment. The vet took his time going over all our treatment options and we were shown a price breakdown so we knew what to expect. My son and I felt so good about our visit at Sage with all the great people that work there to provide or dog (puppy) Callie and us with great service and loving care towards her not feeling well. I've been to this place twice and I swear it is better than any human practice I have been to. The doctors have excellent bed side manners, are friendly and easy to talk with, and spend a good amount of time with you without making you feel rushed. The staff is also friendly and professional. It’s all about money! It’s sad! My nephew brought his dog in there and after $2,000.00. The vet said she’s fine, and we tested her kidneys just give her this medication and it’s all good. As soon as the medication stopped she had same symptoms blood in her urine!!! Now they told him that she needs more blood work and he needs to pay more bc it might be something else!!! I took my beloved Collie to SAGE in Concord  for an emergency on April 2017.  He ended up being diagnosed with bilateral hernias...he had been having a problem for quite a while but after a consultation with Dr. Aitken he told me exactly what my dog had and how to fix it.  I payed close to 15,000.00 dollars to help my 8 year old dog.  Sadly to say the surgery was not a success even though 80 per cent of the time according to the internet this surgery works...my dog had to be put to sleep.  I went to great lengths to find the money for the surgery (otherwise they would not help him) and I was charged another 80 dollars for the final re check....I am soooo sad and disappointment with SAGE. I would have done the surgery regardless of the outcome but it would have been nice to know from the beginning what the chances were...my heart is broken and my finances a mess...I wold never go there again!! It was super hot outside and my puppy got really ill. This place was really good in helping her feel better and explaining everything to me. They were also very cautious about costs. If you ever have an emergency with your dog or cat, this is the place to go. They are open 24 hours a day and have a security guard that watches the cars in the parking lot. The front desk staff is kind and considerate.  These people truly do care about your pet. Disregard what the negative comments said on some of the reviews. They want to do what ever is necessary to make your animal feel better. Read Less

We took our dog Cookie to SAGE Center on July 6, 2017 around 10 in the evening, as he has been lethargic; shaking, suffering from diarrhea, and would not eat from the day before. The first Vet at SAGE informed us that she could not point to the problem immediately. We understand that normal protocol would be to order blood test, stool and urine tests, and the result can take time. The next day, July 7, 2017, we were told by another Vet who is supposed to be a Specialist that she still did not know the  cause of the problem.  According to the Vet, the dog might have been bitten by a snake or a black widow spider, but they don't know exactly.  We were informed that the our dog has bruises on his testicle area and the back area. Those bruises were not there before when we took the dog in. We were also told that our dog had only 50/50 survival or 60/40 survival rate. We were told that our dog had very low white blood plateletsToday, July 8, 2017, we contacted SAGE at 8:30am, as we have not received any updates. It took 3 times to call SAGE to get to the doctor. At this point, after about 40 hours of our dog being confined at the hospital, the third Vet still could not tell us exactly the problem, and suggests that the dog may need surgery for the drying bruised skin area. As of this morning our bill came out to $5,100 exactly the amount of credit we were approved for from creditcare.com which is in some way affiliated with SAGE. Odd coincidence.We are baffled from the fact that after 3 days of our dog Cookie staying at SAGE, 3 doctors have not been able to give us a definitive diagnosis and definitive cure. And then being told that our dog will need skin surgery. We took the dog home, as we are not convinced that our dog is receiving the proper care at SAGE, since 3 Veterinarians (with one specialist) could not point to the exact cause of the problem, and the appropriate treatment.Attached are photos of our dog. On a Friday afternoon, I took my 17+ year old mini-poodle, Jackson, to Sage ER. His tummy had become tight, he didn't want to eat (this little guy was an eater!) and he was very lethargic.  My dog walker called ahead to let them know we were coming in and what his symptoms were.  We arrived, checked in and then after waiting half an hour I went to the desk again; finally (!) Sage took Jackson back for an assessment.Dr. Groff and team ran blood tests, did an ultrasound and found that Jackson had Pancreatitis (which I was informed he had had before, but I didn't know, poor fella).  Later that evening, Dr. Groff called and told me he was optimistic about his recovery; Jackson was staying overnight for continued care.  Early the next morning, Dr. Brandup called and told me Jackson had taken a turn for the worse and wasn't doing well.  She said it was time to consider euthanasia given his age, diagnosis and prognosis.  I was able to spend as much time as I needed with Jackson in a cozy room with dim lights before - and - after his passing.  Dr. Brandup had a wonderful bedside manner which I so appreciated given the situation.  I cried my heart out for Jackson, he was my baby boy! I made the decision to have Jackson cremated and his paw print taken.  When I went to pick up his ashes - a week later - someone had dropped the ball and his paw print was not taken.  I was not happy, but also knew there was nothing I could do about it.  Sage was kind enough to offer an urn - at no price to me - to make up for this error.  I appreciated the offer and picked up the urn this week, but I'm still missing his paw print. My mischievous puppy decided to go through our trash and eat some bones. Unfortunately, that did not sit well with him and the night during he kept throwing up chunks of it. The next day he was still vomiting and my vet recommended Sage. We signed in and were seen a few minutes later.Everyone was so nice and welcoming and I felt that my dog was safe in their hands. He had to stay overnight to see if the bones would digest or if he'd need surgery but luckily he didn't! I was so worried so I would call almost every other hour to check and they were so patient with me. Overall, the atmosphere, the doctors, the nurses, were all so helpful and I knew they wanted my dog to get better. In May 2017, my recently adopted rescue chihuahua mix started panting excessively, and it wasn't hot enough inside my apartment with running A/C for heat to have been the cause. I called SAGE (based on the overall best reviews for the 24/7 vet hospital nearest to me), and the front desk staff was thorough and even put me briefly on hold to ask not one but TWO veterinarians if they thought I should bring her in. Ultimately they went with the better-safe-than-sorry response, and I brought her in immediately.I was a walk-in ER patient. The front desk was friendly and saw me right away, and a nurse came to see me shortly after checking in. The entire visit took about 2.5 hours.Dr. Groff is a five-star doctor. He is compassionate and thorough and not an alarmist. He said that after finishing her small bully stick that she was probably experiencing something akin to when humans eat too much too fast. He gave me wet food (free of charge) and instructions for monitoring her as well as his personal business card if I had any questions/concerns following my visit.As a new dog owner, I was freaked out, but Dr. Groff assuaged my concerns and told me that he didn't feel anything irregular in her digestive tract. He also told me that an x-ray was an option, but since a bully stick is tissue (as opposed to bone), it may not show on the scan anyway and he didn't want to put me or my pet through that experience and charge when it may not even have helpful results. He said that could be a next step if she had any issues following her visit in my home after-care, but she was fine (so no follow-up procedures needed).It is SO important to me to feel like I'm not being taken for a financial ride from pet healthcare, and I feel that my quality of care was top-notch and that there wasn't pressure to pay for any invasive and/or unnecessary procedures. I also sent my invoice to Healthy Paws (truly phenomenal pet insurance!), and the ER line item ($55) was applied toward my deductible (the $50 "exam fee" didn't count toward the deductible based on insurance coverage, but I expected that).The wait time was a bit long. I know I was a walk-in on a Saturday afternoon and that ER wait time depends on the severity of other emergencies that happen when you arrive, but since I called in advance and was told that there was "only one person ahead of me", the wait time was a bit more than I would've liked. I would've appreciated if the staff had been able to better communicate ETA, just to keep me in the loop about how long I'd have to wait. But on the flip side, I'm glad that they were prioritizing severe emergencies; seeing them take a cat in immediately (whose owner said she'd been bleeding profusely) made me feel confident that if my dog were the one in dire need, they'd see her right away. So I couldn't take off a star for wait time because of that!Overall, I trust Dr. Groff for expert medical advice and the front desk staff for prioritizing emergencies. Hopefully my dog won't have any emergencies anytime soon, but if any should arise, I will come to SAGE again. Read Less

Props to Sage veterinary for making sure my pal Busty didn't have any intestinal issues after moving into our new place a few mo the ago. I brought him by as an emergency case and they handled things as quickly and professionally as possible. Follow up calls were missed twice but in the end we got in touch with a vet staff member. Of note we still visit the Sage down in Dublin for our dog as our vet Dr. Dugas is the best vet, says my wife. Read Less

Everyone we interacted with, the front desk staff, veterinary assistants and technicians, were professional and warm, explained the process and the costs well upfront. My cat had a reaction to either Drontal (a dewormer) or metronidazole (antibiotic/anti-inflamatory) and developed loss of balance, weakness, and stumbling. Both of these drugs are documented to have this rare adverse effect in their manufacturer information and come the recommendation of seeking care if they occur. I called ahead and my husband and I brought in our cat. While waiting, other late night guests with urgent needs were seen promptly and attended to with compassion and comfort, and the same was true of us.I would love to give SAGE a five star review, however our experience was marred by the veterinarian who saw us. While she confirmed that ataxia can be a rare side effect, she gave the impression that it was too rare to be the cause, and asked us three times if he was given or could have been exposed to marijuana or some illicit substance, insisting on the importance of honesty. I have no doubt SAGE vets have seen some bad situations and need to ask about this, but we were left with the impression that she didn't believe our story and therefore wouldn't provide any specific care unless we could come up with another reason for the episode.It turns out both metro/drontal toxicity and unknown ataxia are treated the same (fluids and observation) so no care was withheld, but that wasn't communicated to us. We left with a discharge sheet that says he was "seen for ataxia. It is not likely due to the drontal he received earlier today, but can be a rare side effect." I don't understand why they deemed it so unlikely. I've kept asking myself what I might have done to give this impression.Upon visiting our usual clinic the next morning, his drug sensitivities were noted in his chart without question, and fortunately he completely recovered in about 24 hours.I do not want to discourage anyone from bringing their pet here if it needs urgent medical attention. This is obviously a capable facility and they will take care of you. This review is from an emergency visit in November 2016. One ever really thinks of the emergency hospital with your pet. But, when the reality hits, I am so glad the good people at Sage veterinarian hospital are there. Our senior gal dog was in really bad shape, Dr. Jeremy Wong was amazing in his careful examination, his sensitivity to the situation and allowed us to make the right decision. I just lost my long and detailed review! Sooo I'll make this short. I had excellent care; they didn't suggest, or say we needed things that would have resulted in a large bill. Instead, I was told everything looked good, and the vet explained what was happening and why. He asked about pain meds and since she had run out that morning, sent us home with some (she had knee surgery 4 days prior and take it from one who had it 4 months ago, it is very painful! Four days of pain relief is not enough !). I felt we were in very caring and capable hands AND I couldn't believe how reasonable they are were, for this area! They also give a senior discount. Ask for it if you are eligible. I will definitely go there again, and change from the emergency vet near me. I wish they would extend Physical Therapy to the Concord location, or open a place near by. Read Less

I had my cat put down here and although the staff was friendly the DR's totally overdosed her before putting her down. So by the time they brought her into the room she was pretty much gone. It was a very traumatic experience. Read Less

Going to the vet's office is always stressful for my cats and me. Riding from Hercules to Concord with a protesting cat isn't pleasant. I did not put the windows down for fear that my boy Buck could be heard in the next traffic lane and I would be reported for animal cruelty. This emergency hospital was unfamiliar territory for both us. The confident staff put me at ease and Buck did lower his complaining, I want out of box screams, once he was out of the car.He got to see the vet after a reasonable wait. Once we were in the room I let him out of the carrier. The room must have been really clean or he did not feel well--he did not sniff around. When the doctor came in Buck tried to avoid being picked up, however the doctor was fast and put him on the table. He examined him and decided how to treat him. When he left, my boy peaceful waited on the exam table to be takes back to the hospital area. I came back in a couple of hours and he was ready to go home.Our time here was made easier by the friendly caring staff: the receptionist, the vet tech, and the doctor were all nice to us. The office was clean. They have their own lab on site so there is not a day and night or more of worry waiting for results. I was prepared and expecting  to pay a fortune for ER care. The cost wasn't much more that a regular office visit with blood test, If either of my babies have an emergency at night, on the weekend or on a holiday I will bring them here. We ended up waiting 20 minutes but this appeared to be due to an issue with the front office not with the vet staff, so on that note the front office gets 3 stars imo, hopefully the next visit will be better.Dr. Holz was very pleasant and informative regarding our cat's issues and treatment. She explained options clearly and set a simple treatment plan up for our cat. She did not try to over sell any treatments or push more "exams" than were necessary on us. We appreciated her straight forward mentality, as we have been to specialists in the past that wanted to do every exam possible in the book on our animal and rack up the bill. In conclusion, we were very pleased with Dr. Holz' professional demeanor and her examination of our cat. Our cat was extremely comfortable with her and the tech/staff :) We are looking forward to our follow up appointment! Read Less

Rude unhelpful staff especially in emergency. My cat went in walking eating and came back unable to to walk a few days later he passed. They do not give you all options just quick to give an estimate and have money put down. They are terrible and strongly do not recommend if your pet is ill. Please please go somewhere else...that's creditable. I wish I would have In addition I heard staff making fun of customers. I don't think the pets best interest are in consideration. One comment I got was it's ok this nurse is a cat person she'll take care of him - super concerning comments. Unprofessional. Inconsistent care right there called out by staff.Read Less

Five stars reflecting my experience of SAGE staff, their compassionate care of our family members, and the information and education they provided us with. SAGE is never really a place you want to end up with a family member, because that means that something is seriously wrong; no one would celebrate that. But you know what, when emergency's happen, there is no where else I'd rather go than SAGE. And emergency's have happened twice to our family. When our PK (cat) had a sudden seizure, we were scared to death. Headed right for SAGE. PK passed, but SAGE was there to support her before she did. When our beloved Emi (dog) was diagnosed with IMHA, we found ourselves back at SAGE. Not only did they provide loving care for Emi while she was there; SAGE's staff was incredibly patient with Emi's worried parents (us), answered all our questions, and empowered us with the education necessary to pursue the best treatment plan for Emi in her stage of illness.  While I never want to return to SAGE, because of what that would indicate about the health of our family, SAGE exists for a reason and our family is just so grateful for the kindness, professionalism, and experience of the SAGE staff. My visit to Sage emergency care is a bit of an unfortunate one but this veterinary is five stars. My dog has been having grand mal seizures and Sage got me in right away. I did not have to wait long once I got there. Their veterinary center is very clean. Everyone I encountered was kind and knowledgable. The price was expensive but the x-rays needed to be done. The unfortunate part is it appears to be a brain tumor.  I have elected to use medication  rather than put my dog through a bunch of costly invasive surgery.This center does not do neurology and in fact no one locally does. The neurologists are in Redwood city, Campbell and Napa and cost 4,000 just for a scan.  I realize my dog may not make it but I plan to keep her on medication until she shows signs of poor life quality.  If you are in need of an excellent pet emergency this would be it! Sage is awesome! All the doctors, techs and assistants were great. We brought our dog   George in because we suspected he ate something he shouldn't have. He was very lethargic and not eating or drinking. Blood tests- negative. X rays could not see a blockage but they monitored him very closely for a solid 24 hours while administering fluids. Instead of jumping into a costly and slightly risky surgery to explore and possibly remove a foreign object the first class doctors and specialists took an extended look via ultrasound and saw the object was moving out of him. Then he started eating and drinking without vomiting and now he is home safe with his family without the added variables (or added costs$$$) that a surgery would have brought. 5- stars. We will definitely be using them if we have any other pet emergencies. Read Less

I turned to Yelp when my dog was hit by a car at 5:30am today and I found Sage Vet & Emergency Cate. This is THE place to take your cat or dog when you have an issue, they get hurt or sick. The people who work here love animals, and seem to love helping hurt ones in particular. Plus, there's lots of staff -- at reception, nurses and doctors (8 Drs on staff).  No wait to get checked in and see a doc even at 6-7am. They offer top notch care -- surgery to X-ray to ultrasound to blood work to pain meds to IVs, you name it. First class capabilities. It's not inexpensive!  Expect a major incident like I had (very severe car hit on my dog) to cost $1,000+. I will say, my dog's final bill came in $100 below what I was quoted, but it was still costly. That said, I had TOTAL piece of mind leaving my injured dog in the care of Sage...and she returned to us 12 hrs later in great condition and even brighter spirits. Read Less

The entire Staff here were compassionate, friendly and attentive. Brought in our doggie this evening after her nail and pad were ripped in an escalator, the staff were beyond wonderful and fixed her up in a jiffy. This might sound like a strange review, but I believe it might help people out there.  My wonderful dog of 15 years had to finally be put down.  My regular Vet at Mueller Vet clinic recommended SAGE for more detailed tests when "Tangie" was showing signs of cancer.  The staff at SAGE walked me through this most difficult process in the most compassionate way possible.  They took care of my dog and explored every possible option.  When it was time, they respected and loved my dog like it was their own.Difficult, but I just wanted to write this.  Hopefully will help someone out there. My dog somehow gashed his rear leg while hiking. The sage surgeon, Dr. Richardson, did a wonderful job suturing a severed artery and a variety of tendons and ligaments. Along with the staff, she was excellent at explaining the injury and what I needed to do following surgery. Great surgical, post-care and communications. Read Less

Highly recommended! My cat was under respiratory distress (Asthma) and had trouble breathing, and since it was after hours for my usual vet, I went to SAGE. Dr. Tracy Hardin and her team took great care of Ziggy, my cat. They were very professional and did not try to "upsell" anything just to get more money - they advised me of my options and gave their recommendations based on Ziggy's symptoms and made sure to explain everything to me so no mystery in regards to what is going on. The entire staff was very supportive when I was there, from reception to nurses to doctors. I felt that I was in capable hands. They will do their best to help you and your pet! I will definitely consider going back when something happens during the hours my primary vet is closed! Read Less
