We took our dog here for 3 years and received very average medical care and had a very average experience. We LOVED Dr Hooykas but then he left. Since, we've seen pretty much every other vet and have not been impressed.The thing that really bothers me about CDM Animal Hospital is that I always feel like they're trying to maximize the cost of my visit, without really caring about my dog. My dog has serious skin allergies and instead of giving us a simple prescription they always make us come in for a check by the vet that is literally 1 minute long. One time he had a hotspot on his foot and we needed antibiotics, instead of just giving him a perception he's had so many times before, they made us come in for an appointment. The vet checked his foot and gave us the prescription- like why couldn't she have just filled it for us? Then what's more, they shaved the hair off around the hotspot (maybe the size of a tangerine), and I thought okay that was nice of them... but when I saw the bill they charged us $20 just to shave the hair off his foot PLUS THE COST OF THE VISIT. Are you kidding me!? They never call or follow up to see if he's better. To be fair, I guess skin allergies aren't life threatening... but Dr Hooykas always called us...or he would talk to us over the phone if we called him...After 3 years of this- and by the way no resolution for his allergies- we decided to take him to another vet. Just in one visit we were so so impressed by how much knowledge we received, the treatment, and sure enough he called us to see how our dog was doing. As a dog walker it's very important that I have a trusty vet and staff that I can rely on. So finding CDM Animal hospital has been a god send. I refer all my clients here based on the personal care and amazing service I receive every time I walk through the door. They have an great groomer on staff and all of our dogs go in every Friday for bath day and my clients are absolutely thrilled to receive a clean and handsome looking pup ready for the weekend. This is by far the best animal hospital I have ever been to.  They have been wonderful as caregivers my Miniature Pincher "Callie" for 5 of her 12 years.  She got sick 1 month ago and they were caring and considerate of both her needs and the needs of our family.  When we made the decision to put her to sleep, they could not have been more compassionate.  During what was a very difficult time,  they guided us and helped Callie leave us with peace and dignity.   After she passed away, Dr. Tiberi even wrote my family a hand written note.  I am grateful I found CDM Animal Hospital and when the time comes to get another dog, I will only choose them for his or her care.  Thank you for treating all of us I am grateful. Dr. Aten has been vital to the well being of our cats since he took ownership of the Hospital years ago. He and Dr. Hansen (who's attended to various pets when Dr. Aten been away or unavailable) is an extraordinary talent. CDM Animal / Vet Hospital has been our only Veterinarian Hospital and Doctors for well over 20 years. From Jay (at the front desk) as well as anyone who greets you to any of the Doctors (ours has been Dr. Aten) your pet could not be in better hands! We trust them with our extended family members and have recommended them countless time to friends and associates with never ever hearing anything but an enormous 'Thank you' in return. I've been a loyal client at Corona del Mar Animal Hospital for many years. I'm there at least once a week with my bulldogs for grooming! They do the best job and really understand the breed and all their nasty skin problem! They use the best products and are actually less expensive then Newport Center and Newport Animal Hospital. What I love most about CDM Animal Hospital is that no matter who is working up front, they always remember my name and my pets names without even having my file! They are all so good at what they do and I would never take my dogs anywhere else! As far as the doctors go, I'm non specific, they are all fantastic and know my dogs very well! I have been taking my cavalier king charles to this animal hospital since she was a pup. She has received the greatest care from both the staff and all the doctor's. They are always prompt to take care of her and are always do whatever is needed for her health and happiness! She recently had a neck injury and Dr. Aten was able to diagnosis the problem quickly before it became an issue (Jasmine says thank you, by the way)! If you want not only a vet, but groomers and new friends, this is the BEST animal hospital in Orange County, hands down!! Read Less

Took my beloved to this vet for 10 years. They failed to properly diagnose cancer, called it allergies and pinched nerve. This went on for over one year. Symptoms were classic hemangiosarcoma that should have sent signals and could have been readily diagnosed with ultrasound, but this was not suggested and even discouraged. Perhaps it is because they don't offer it. Finally, I took her to UC Davis, where she had an ultrasound and was diagnosed that same day. She had surgery the next day, but I got the grim news that it is fatal. For whatever reason, my dog's life has been truncated needlessly. Same thing happened to two friend's dogs there. Both of them died. One friend did not know what happened to her dog until mine got diagnosed (one year after her dog's death). This is too common of a situation for this to be missed three times by this vet. Davis recommends an annual check up with an ultrasound to catch this disease early. I am grieving over what I could have done but did not. Read Less

Many years ago, before we moved to Orange County, we were visiting on holiday with our puppy who got attacked by another dog. Several passersby who witnessed the attack stopped to help & two separately recommended Corona Del Mar Pet Hospital. We rushed him there, and although they were closing, they took him in and got him all fixed up. Now that we've moved here, they were the first vet I considered. I still talked around to other pet owners, and everyone had wonderful things to say about CDM Animal Hospital, including a student of mine who was interning for a different vet in the area. They are fantastic. We were sad to leave our prior vet (Dr. Stan Kunin in Woodland Hills - also Top Notch!), but so happy to have Skipper in Dr. Aten's care! Read Less
