You'll never find a more reasonable, responsible vet. He truly cares for animals and takes a graduated approach to my pet's health problems. His conservative opinion is welcomed. Everyone that works at this location is very nice. It was my first time taking my dog here because we just moved to this area from Garden Grove. Prices of any medical attention is a bit steep. I have been coming to this hospital for over 14 years!!! My review is way over due.  I consider the doctors and the staff as close friends because of the way they me that way.  Dr. Mackie ALWAYS does a follow up call to check in on my 2 dogs.  Who does this? They have been there through the happy times and scary times, I thank the heavens for having them there for me so close by.  They are priced fair and they have also seen me and not charged me for minor issues many of times.  Again, who does this?? BEWARE!  Service has gone down and is NOT RECOMMENDED!!!  After going to this vet for nine years we are quitting. They conveniently "forgot" they saw our dog in March (it's now June) and refused to provide calming medicine for the Fourth of July fireworks (our poor pooch gets completely crazy with the noise). Their level of service has diminished to the point of no return and the interest and care for our pet is negligent. The office is unorganized and can't keep accurate records of our visits and vaccinations which puts my dog at risk of receiving the wrong thing at the wrong time. The doctor (Mackey) cares more about earning a paycheck than the welfare of the animals. He suggested removal of her canine for fear of infection, but upon extraction it was completely fine...and now her other teeth have started grinding down because that tooth was so important and the others have to compensate. We feel this will shorten the life of our pet as she will inevitably loose more teeth (and who does this benefit? THE VET!!  He gets more services!). Once upon a time I highly recommended this office, but BEWARE!!  This office does not care about you or your pets but only themselves. Read Less

Lola was having a small allergic reaction,so I was able to find this vet on yelp! Everyone was super helpful, prices were reasonable,and a great replacement for banfield. I've had a handful of really pleasant experiences here.  I have 3 dogs of my own who have a longtime regular Vet down in San Clemente, but I live in Newport Beach, so that's quite a trek on a busy day.  I needed to have foster dog vaccinated asap, and they got me an appointment on the date/time that I needed.  The front desk staff was very friendly, and Dr. Mackey was extremely likeable and seemed to take a straightforward approach (no excess recommendations or upselling products or services--just performed the services I needed and called it a day!).  I've taken two other dogs here previously as well for clients (I own a dog boarding facility), and found the same approach, quality of care, and pleasant attitude during those visits as well.   Prices seem very reasonable.  I've started referring to them frequently, and will gladly bring my own dogs here too if the need arises! I have been taking my dogs to Baker Bristol Pet Hospital for 26 years.  We have always received amazing care and attention.  Whether it's emergency surgery, allergies, vaccines (and everything in between) the care and compassion is always the same.  I love the "common sense" approach that is offered and their willingness to recommend over-the-counter meds if it's appropriate. We have been going to see Dr. Mackey and his staff for our pet care needs for over 4 years. They are fabulous!! Dr. Mackey is so caring and compassionate and takes the time to listen to our concerns and allows us to us ask as many questions as we want. We have an 11 year old cat with chronic kidney disease and he has helped us every step of the way, making sure she is in the best care. We have learned so much from him and our cat is doing better than ever 2 years after her diagnosis. His staff is also so caring and helpful! One of his staff members, Julie, pet sits for us and takes care of our kitty with chronic kidney disease when we go out of town. I am extremely late in my review here.  Bristol Baker isn't just any vet hospital, it's a place where there is compassion, love and understanding for our fur babies.I've been taking my cats, here for almost 16 years, yet sadly my 18 year old cat (Porsche Tucson)  had to go over the rainbow bridge a few weeks ago.  This was an extremely difficult decision on my end.  Yet, I understand part of being a parent to an animal is keeping them safe and not letting them suffer.  Dr. Mackey is the most knowledgeable andcompassionate Veterinarian I have ever meet.  He has gone over and beyond, and handled this difficult situation with compassion and care.  Dr Mackeywas amazing, he even had tears in his eyes , as he understood how extremely hard this was for me. Also,  a quick story, I have/had two cats. My other cat Geoffrey (whom is 6 years old), about 8 months ago, my cat Geoffrey became very ill as I placed the wrong flea stuff on him, it was for a dog, yet I thought it was the one for cats, and long story short, I had to run my cat up to a 24 vet emergency care, due to Geoffrey becoming so ill and it was after hours.  The next day they (the 24 emergency care place) faxed all my cats paperwork to Bristol baker hospital so Dr. Mackey could look over.  Dr Mackey called my home every day for a week to ensure my cat "Geoffrey" was doing well and getting better. I can't speak highly enough about Bristol Baker Vet Hospital.  Not only is Dr. Mackey incredible.  The staff is always so helpful, friendly, and professional. We were referred here by family friends that are long time customers. After trying Banfield with a stray/foster I was unimpressed by their care program costs, the actual vets and service was fine. We were looking for a vet that could give us a well rounded experience.Super glad we got this referral. The staff and the vets are EXCELLENT. The location is great for us, easy to get in and out of. The facility is comfortable and clean. We've had to do regular check-ups, vaccines, spay procedures, and walk-in type situations and have never had a problem with any of this. I've been taking my 5 1/2 month old kitten here since he was 8 weeks old. They are reasonably priced but they also care!!! They spend time to talk to you and meet your pet and give such great advice. Dr. A told me I should research vaccines and make sure I only get what I think is best after doing research. I liked that he wasn't pushing me to get everything. I got him neutered when he turned 4 months. I brought him home and he acted as if nothing happened... He immediately started playing and wanting to eat! I was blown away. Oh and it still looks like he has balls which is cool lol. I rescued another kitten last week and I brought her to Dr. Mackey and he was also really great! Both healthy kitty's. She was sneezing a little bit but not enough for medication. They did blood work and tested her feces as well as got her caught up on vaccines. All around good vibes at this place. Read Less

I was out of town.  My family took my 12 yr old dog to our vet of choice.     I returned to a huge scalpel laceration on my dogs ear... Draining at 9 pm on Saturday night.     Ended up taking him to an emergency clinic that was appalled how the hematoma was handled with a scalpel.     Per the emergency vet she was befuddled ?       I took him back to the clinic for a recheck and the vet recommended staples to close the wound.    They took my dog back to clean the wound and put staples to close the wound. The entire officeI  him wailing in pain. Supposedly. They gave him a pain reliever but it didn't set in?   Then wait till it works!!!!! I went in at. 430 today and it hasn't worn off now at 12 am.     My poor dog!!     The sounds I heard.    Don't go here!!!      They have been treating my dogs for 4 yrs. Read Less

I was referred to this vet hospital by a family friend who had brought her pets there while growing up in Orange County.   This review is for my tortoise.  I have been in the office for both a regular "post-hibernation" check-up, and to bring in my tortoise for urgent care.  Most recently, I brought my tortoise in for urgent care because he was only able to walk by dragging himself forward with his two front legs.  I had noticed his condition on Friday morning, but it seemed to be getting worse as the day went on.  The timing was terrible because my husband and I were scheduled to fly out in 2 hours to visit his family in San Francisco for the weekend.  I was concerned that my tortoise may have eaten something poisonous, so I didn't want to leave him alone...but I also couldn't cancel our plans.  Dr. Mackey made time to see my tortoise with me there when I brought him in.  And then I made the difficult decision to board my little guy with the vet hospital for the weekend.  I had never left him with anyone, EVER, so this was quite stressful...but I could tell he was in good hands.  True to his word, Dr. Mackey called me every day with a status update, even when there was no news.  He even swung by the office both days on the weekend when he normally doesn't work just to check in on my tortoise to make sure he was getting along all right, and feed him some greens.And when I came back on Monday to pick up my tortoise, Dr. Mackey did not start any medication or treatment that we hadn't already discussed.  The rate for the medicine, x rays, and boarding was very reasonable.  In this instance when I was so desperate for help, they could have easily gauged me or pushed unnecessary tests and treatments, but they didn't.  Not only did they NOT gauge me, they also made me feel like my tortoise was in the very best care possible, and that I was aware of every update or change in his condition.  I wish my other doctors had HALF this level of commitment, customer service, and honesty.  Dr. Mackey and his staff are fabulous, and they have made a life-long customer out of me and my husband! they are great and really care for animals. if they are unsure of a spacific problem they will send you to who probably will but for the most part they figure out what is wrong.
