My family have been taking our dogs and cats to Newport Harbor Animal Hospital for 20 years, maybe longer. We have been to other veterinary clinics in the area and they either tried to push costly and unnecessary treatments on us, our pets would shake and cower before every getting inside, or one place put my 17 year old cat to sleep when I told them I wanted to be there. I've never had a bad experience at Newport Harbor Animal Hospital. They listen to your concerns, are very compassionate to not only you, but to the pet in their care. We typically always see Dr. Ashbran, but if needed we have no problems seeing any of the other doctors. The staff is always extremely friendly and our pets have never acted afraid. They also do a great job boarding as well. I have referred all of the neighbors around, all of which still continue to take their pets there. That says a lot. Read Less

I have been a client for a very long time. I always have a houseful of animals and NHAH has always been there with me when dealing with everything from annual health checks and vaccines to long term chronic health issues and management to cancer and the extremely difficult euthanasia. Some of the doctors have retired, some are new, some have been there a long time and although i haven't personally met all the new ones, their core value of humane love and care of animals is clearly the long standing goal. Highly recommended for quality, state of the art animal health care. Read Less

I was referred here over 20 years ago when I had a Chow that three other vet offices were clearly afraid of him. Wouldn’t even come in the room to meet him without throwing a muzzle on him and one vet had known him from puppyhood. Happily Newport Harbor had no issue accepting an adult Chow as a new patient and after his first visit got marks in his chart as a good dog! Now on my third dog, a rescue Akita, still drive from Long Beach to Costa Mesa to see these vets, specifically Dr. Ashbran. They are all wonderful though!! My experience has always been good with thorough explanations of any treatments and/or options that are available to me and why one would be recommended over another. I never feel that they are trying to pad the bill at all. Everything I am charged for is worth it! I could go on and on about my 20+ years with this office and how wonderful they are!! Read Less

Do yourself and your pet a favor and avoid this place. I adopted a 1 year old terrier mix about 6 weeks ago. This is my first dog, so I'm a little paranoid about doing everything just right.  We went to NHAH for our first checkup, then back again for a flu shot and flea & heartworm meds and had positive experiences both times. A couple of days ago, I brought my dog home from daycare and she started to act strange. She then began vomiting and eventually threw up what I believe to be the end of a bully stick. After it was out, her behavior seemed close to back to normal.  I called Newport Harbor Animal Hospital to be safe and they recommended I bring her into emergency services- so I did. The doctor evaluated her, and then recommended a series of tests- totaling $716.05. I suggested that maybe my dog was okay since the bully stick was out and she was acting normal. The doctor made a condescending remark, implying not getting these done would be a bad decision. Keep in mind- new dog owner- I want to make sure I am doing what's best for my dog.  I trusted the professional. They don't do any of the treatments with you in the room.  After about 2 hours a vet tech brought her out to me (not the doctor) and did not say a word. No feedback on these outrageously expensive tests, no feedback on her care the next couple of days, nothing.  I had to ask these questions myself- and the vet tech did not have any answers. She did say the doctor would meet with me "if I wanted".  I was shocked and felt completely taken advantage of. At that point I was too frustrated to waste any more time here.  I made it clear to the vet tech and the receptionist that the lack of communication on this doctor's end was unacceptable. I was not surprised to receive a voicemail the next night that stated all of the tests came back normal.  It's not about the money. My insurance will cover almost all of this- but some people don't have that luxury. The treatments were overkill, I felt pressured to do them, and there was no communication on the back end. The worst part of this all is I think they put my poor dog through a stressful event for their own financial gain.  Will not return. Read Less

I've been coming here since I moved to Costa Mesa in 2014 as it was recommended by multiple people in my neighborhood, friends included, that had both dogs and cats.  I'm mostly writing this review due to the compassion and understanding that the vets and staff provided to me through the process of eventually putting my dog, Hazel, down to rest.  It was Dr. Mary Sebzda, who was not even our vet at the time, nor had we ever seen her for any emergencies that extended to me the most comforting and reassuring hug while she saw me agonizing over the decision to euthanize Hazel.  That was over a year ago and today, we choose Dr. Mary Sebzda as our vet (Dr. Corum moved away).  I highly recommend this hospital.  The staff are just as wonderful! Vaccinations are a necessity for your dog, and this vet WILL give your dog the CHEAPEST brand of vaccinations on the market. The company they chose has had many adverse effects on fur babies, yet this vet insist on the cheaper BRAND of vaccinations in the name of profit at your fur babies expense. I even went out of my way to ask for the better quality vaccination (and I'll pay the extra cost) and they said no because they have to "buy their shots in bulk".... ...and its also unusual that when they give a shot, they WILL NOT let you be along side you fur baby, unless you pay extra for the vet and not a technician. I am so thankful to have found NHAH after adopting 2 Siamese Ragdoll mix (we think) kittens! We took them to another vet for their first appointment (they had really runny eyes) and HATED it. The office was dirty, disorganized, and to top it off we noticed a few weeks later that our beautiful kittens were COVERED in fleas!Enter NHAH. When they needed their final shots I knew we were NOT going back to the other vet (even before we discovered the fleas...). We called around and ultimately found NHAH. We loved that we were able to schedule an appointment the next day without taking time off work because NHAH allows you to drop your animals off for day-boarding. So I dropped the fur-babies off before work and left with confidence that they were in good hands with how much everyone was ohh-ing and awe-ing over them when we dropped them off. When the vet had time to see them she checked them out and gave me a call to tell me how the appointment went, and then I picked them up and paid when I got off work.SO EASY!Little did I know what a lifesaver the day-boarding would be! Our apartment complex has started doing renovations and we are constantly getting notices to enter. Since day boarding is only $10 per cat, or free with a service from the vet, we simply schedule to drop them off and get their nails trimmed. Every time I call to schedule I get great customer service. Every drop-off and pick-up is quick and efficient. When I see the way everyone wants to come talk to my kitties I am confident that they are taken care of while I am away. They never come home afraid or acting weird like they were neglected.I couldn't be happier to have found NHAH for the little guys and do not hesitate to recommend them to other pet-owners I know. Through new puppy and kitten care to senior care, boarding, emergencies, terminal illness and in between, the entire staff is thoughtful and helpful. Even though I don't live as close as I used to when I started there, I continue to entrust my fur babies to them.Read Less

Dr. Millian and the staff at NHAH were very comforting, accommodating, patient, and caring when I had to say goodbye to my kitty boy! They provided me with detailed explanations of all treatment and quality of life options. They were professional yet compassionate and understood the difficulties I faced within my personal decisions. Dr. Millian provided exemplary guidance and counsel in the challenging decisions I was faced with. He let me know and helped me to understand it is okay to let go. I sincerely appreciated the devotion and caring NHAH provided me. I highly recommend taking your furry, feathery, scaly, etc. family members to NHAH. Also, they are open on weekends, which wonderful.Read Less

After a procedure that required stitches Dr.Herrera called the next day to ask how my dog Oscar was doing personally instead of one of the staff. I have been taking my dog here for the last 3 and a half years and would never think of changing. I have also boarded my dog without worrying about him staff for boarding is there 24 hours and can call for check ups any time. I would without a doubt recommend them for your pet. Read Less
