I've only been once, but they showed great compassion and respect for me and my tiny senior dog, Trixie. They listened carefully to my concerns and followed up a few days later with a call to see how Trixie was doing. We had a wonderful little dog who was diagnosed with CHF.  Over almost four months we had several emergency as well as regular visits as we went through our dog's end of life care.  We were absolutely blessed with the care at this clinic, especially with Dr. Camille Lehman, who was so understanding and sweet to us during this time.  All of the vet techs we encountered were kind as well.  And receptionist Tawny was just the best.  We knew we would have to put Pugsy down, and when that awful day came, Tawny and Dr. Lehman were amazing.  They helped my daughter and I through all of this, and I cannot ever thank them enough.  I would not hesitate to recommend this vet clinic to anyone.  They treated us with the utmost kindness and respect, and cared for our little guy as if he was their own.  Thank you Animal Hospital of Cotati. I live in SF but come here to do any procedures for my corgi, Zoe. I've been here twice already and the establishment has been so professional and reliable. Both times my dog chipped/cracked her large molar and had to have it removed. I was quoted $2600 in San Francisco for 1 tooth, and the procedure would have to be scheduled for 2 weeks out. I called cotati and they immediately gave me an appointment and procedure date for the next day! On top of the convenience, 2 teeth removal and cleaning was less than $1000! You will never find a more loving staff of qualified vets than Animal Hospital of Cotati. I came to them with my dog at deaths door after receiving treatment elsewhere. They cleared immediate time in their surgery schedule after just a phone call. When we arrived, their first action was to treat my dogs pain and then address my own with a warm hug and caring sympathetic eyes. I received update calls during surgery and a complete in-depth and honest explanation after. I don't know if this is routine for them to go so above and beyond, but I know they saw all we had been through, the stress, anxiety and hurt. They were healing both my dog and my personal anguish. The staff there seems to get along like family and they treat their human and furry patients like family too. Their generosity was amazing! I feel like that kind of true care for a fellow man is so rare and missing in so many businesses, but it's alive and well at Animal Hospital. I have been taking my pets here since the late 90's and I have never had a bad experience. Yes, they can be pricey but you get what you pay for. Their facilities are very clean, their veterinarians and assistants are very knowledgable and gentle with animals, and their receptionists are very proficient. They are open late which is very convenient for those who work and they are also able to book an appointment with short notice. My cat, Bonnie, was recently diagnosed with feline asthma. They were able to see her the day we called. They prescribed her a temporary medication while my fiancé and I saved up some money for her x-rays and blood work. They called a couple times just to check to see how Bonnie was doing. I was very appreciative of that. When we were ready to get her x-rays and blood work done, we were able to bring her in the same day that we called and got everything done that day. The test results and diagnosis came back within a day or two and we were able to prescribe her a new medication within a few days. Read Less

I like the Drs and the treatment for my dog Melanie.  My complaint is not with the hospital or Drs. it is with an picture they advertise with Santa Claus taken Sunday the 11th of Dec.  I gave a donation of 10.00 because everyone was pleasant and the picture on camera looked very nice.  I even complemented  the camera man.  I was told no charge, just a donation if I wished.  So that was on me.  I was told that the picture would come to my email.  Now I will have to go buy expensive shiny paper to print out when I get the picture. Had I know that, I would have given 5.00 donation.  That is the question, when.  I called this morning and was told by the receptionist she didn't know when, but a few weeks.  This is after Christmas.  In todays digital world, why so long? No explaination, she didn't know.  As a senior, I can't afford to throw money away. The donation was on me and  Ijust want the picture.  Weeks?  What happen?Again, this is not a complaint against the establishment or Drs. We took our cat to Animal Hospital of Cotati because of some swelling he had. We dropped him off at their request, and they charged us $45 for that. "Daycare fee" (that's some expensive kibble!). Then they gave him $175 worth of x-rays, but were dubious about the prognosis. All told the appointment  cost $600.What was really disturbing was how quickly they were ready to do surgery. They were absolutely chomping at the bit to put the cat under the knife. Trying to schedual an appointment immediately. Surgery is dangerous and costs more than $1,500.They instructed us on how to use some antibiotics, but neglected to give us the medication and we had to return for it. We then realized that they had administered a dose but hadn't told us at what time, so we didn't know what time to give our cat the antibiotics. We had to go into the office four different times for one appointment!When we went to a different animal hospital for a second opinion, they didn't understand why Animal Hospital of Cotati wanted to do surgery so willy-nilly. Felt like vet wasn't listening to me about my dogs choice of chew toys. I have no reason to lie, but she seemed adamant I wasn't being truthful because of his tooth wear pattern. I just wanted to find out what was really causing the issue and her theory was incorrect because we don't play with the toy she thought was the cuprit. Anyway I like how they let me keep my dog with me and not take him into the back room. He gets a bit of tram from that, shaking, crying and being overall difficult to handle. I can handle him just fine for his blood draws and shots and they let me do that. The vet is a bit pushy on some of the less necessary treatments, like secondary, non puppy deworming. Our kitty passed away and we needed a place to take him for cremation. I called several places in the area and upon calling Animal Hospital of Cotati, I spoke to a sweet and kind woman, so I figured this would be a good spot to take our beloved kitty of 18 years. The cost to cremate and get the remains back in a box would be $220.00, which was comparable to other places I called. She said we could stop in anytime.When we arrived, we were greeted with a clip board shoved in our face to and were told of the fee to cremate, and asked to sit down. No condolences offered or anything of the sort. You'd think that carrying in our dead animal we'd be treated with a bit more sensitivity and compassion, but that was not the case. We filled out the paperwork, handed over our deceased cat, and were again told of the cost to cremate the remains. They were sure concerned about letting us know three times in 5 minutes the cost of the cremation, yet had little to no concern of the sadness of our situation in handing over our deceased kitty, and how heartbreaking that can be. I didn't expect them to be upset like we were, as I'm sure they see this every day, but an ounce of compassion goes a long way. Even a warm smile would have been appreciated, but no.Based on my experience, I would not recommend this animal hospital to anyone looking to cremate a pet they have lost. We just moved from Orange County and needed a vet in Sonoma, After searching yelp (like always!),I called Animal Hospital of Cotati, and to  my surprise they were able to fit me in the same day. Our dog Woody has very sensitive skin and gets seasonal allergies...he had a really bad reaction to flea bites that needed vet attention. The guy at the front desk was very friendly and helpful, and so were the vet techs we interacted with. The vet we met with, Camille, was very friendly and knowledgeable, and didn't push us into anything expensive or unnecessary, like we've experienced with previous vets. The price for both the exam fee and medication we received was very affordable. We will definitely be back, and would recommend AH of C to any of my puppy parent friends! Read Less

I took my 3 month old kitten in today after having adopted her three days ago. She came home from the shelter with a tuft of fur on her hair that later developed into an infected abscess and a high fever. Since I am a student and wasn't prepared for such a high vet bill so early, they helped me out incredibly to make sure my little Charlie could be helped even if I could only pay half of what was estimated. I brought my pupster in today as an emergency. He has a problem with his back and it's the second time this has happened (I later remembered) in the nine years we've been together.As I came through the door at 8am ish, a complete mess with doggie in my arms, I was immediately attended to by Gonzalo the receptionist and the vet tech (I'm sorry, I forgot your name).  I then saw Dr Jill. The compassion and care they gave me and my pup was brilliant. He's crashed out with me and on the mend now. Thank you guys!I had my dog's nails trimmed here about a week ago. I will never again go there. My beloved older dog had blood on his chest, so I rushed him in to Animal Hospital of Cotati. The vet recommended that we do surgery immediately, suggesting it might be cancer. That meant anesthesia for an older dog (risky) and a bill of $1,200. The results: nothing was found. The vet then recommended a course of antibiotics, which worked perfectly to clear up the infection. Why didn't she start with antibiotics-- which was the correct, conservative route? Fool me once... This review is very two sided for me so we'll start with the goodMy 10 year old chihuahua needed extensive dental work.  Dr. Hinkle did a fabulous job with her.  Pretty pricey ($1250) but no more so than other vets that I've been to.  Lexie has a healthy mouth now and is a much happier dog and I am thrilled with that.I initially started going to Animal Hospital of Cotati because Windsor Animal Hospital couldn't seem to diagnose and treat my other dog who is a 4 year old lab.  Dr Hinkle came highly recommended to me by a good friend of mine.  We took Harley in to see her in October 2013 and I immediately trusted her to care for Harley.  He had a Silver Dollar Size open sore on his back that had been there since May because the other vet couldn't diagnose it and another lump under his chin.  After our initial visit ($122.75) and some aspirate tests,  Dr Hinkle recommended that surgery be done to remove the sore and the lump and have it tested.  Surgery $1153 was successful and it healed very nicely and the test results showed no cancer.  We thought we were done.  Thanksgiving the ugly condition that was haunting him came back but as a growth  above his eye.  I quickly called the next day to find that Dr Hinkle was on vacation but Dr. Mercado could see him.  Dr. Mercado did some testing and said it was either a blocked tear duct or a insect bite.  She gave him a shot of Benadryl and antibiotic eye drops and sent us on our way ($242.00).  On December 16th Harley wasn't getting any better but actually getting worse.  I insisted on seeing Dr Hinkle.  She looked at him and opened his mouth and was pretty certain that he had a fractured molar tooth which she thought could be causing the eye swelling and leaky tear duct.  The plan was to put him on heavy antibiotics and steroid to see if it reacted to that, if not they would go in and X-ray and verify the bad tooth and pull it.  On December 26th Dr Hinkle was on vacation so Dr Mercado performed the x-ray, aspirate little mini surgery on Harley ($433.54) and found that he had no fractured teeth and the aspirate showed no signs of cancer.Dr Hinkle passed me off to yet another Doctor ... Dr Levy worked with us extensively over the next several weeks and proved to be the most helpful with our situation.  We started with a very high dose of steroid and week by week were weening him off of it but never being able to elevate it all together.On 2/15 I got quite emotional with Dr Levy on the phone and completely lost it with her when she exclaimed that she was doing this for free.  My bad for loosing it with her .. I'm an emotional mess over this poor dog and as I am choking on paying the bills off she tells me that she is doing this for free.Today I called only to get a refill on the steroid because it seems that my dog can't be without it.  I received a phone call back from Carl Hinkle telling me that he was making a copy of our file and mailing it it me and that he would fill one last prescription for Harley. The Animal Hospital of Cotati has been my primary vet for about 3 years (I have six cats).  All of the vets there are terrific (all women!) but Dr. Hinkle is my favorite!!  I have an 18-year old female kitty who pretty fragile these days and Dr. Hinkle is WONDERFUL with her.  She takes her time with us, has ALL KINDS of holistic suggestions, and options for us, takes care to send us home instead of keeping my girl all day when possible so there is less stress, and is an absolute DELIGHT to work with.  She also developed "cuddle cups" the practice -- so instead of my old girl being chilly on a towel or whatever, she is transported, "stored," and dropped back off to me surrounded by a soft, gathered, portable kitty bed of sorts.  I LOVE THAT & bought one to take home (all my cats LOVE them & the gathers instead of the hard sides make them easy to get in to for my very old kitty).  It's touches like these that really make a difference!!  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The new facilities are nice and the staff are generally friendly. The cost is average, I suppose, but I can't help but feel frustrated and disappointed. I took the cats in last week for something specific and they decided to do a full physical without consulting me, even though they'd just had that done a few months prior. I didn't complain, but the cost was much higher than anticipated, incl recommended flea meds they had to sell me directly. Of course there's no generic. One of the cats has gotten worse since, so I called to ask how long I should wait and observe before coming back. The attendant did not consult the vet, just told me I'd better revisit. So I did, but then the vet said that it would be a month before the medication would have time to work so it wasn't necessary. But since I was there, they decided to do a skin scraping and look at it under the microscope... In the end, they found nothing and couldn't diagnose the condition or tell me anymore than I was able to find online. In lieu of the lack of accomplishment, I thought they might even waive the charge of the visit. At worst, I expected another $30-$60. But it was another $100+ just for the fruitless procedure and unnecessary followup. I never shortchange my cats even though I'm living in a crappy apartment on a student's income, but I would appreciate it beyond expression if I felt like they gave a little consideration to my finances instead of only their own. I'm sure that they are hurting in this economy like the rest of us, but their residence and equipment says it's not enough to warrant exploiting the customer beyond reason. Just a tad more consideration would win a lot more loyalty from me. Read Less
