I can't say enough about Blackhawk Veterinary Hospital. The staff is always so friendly and accommodating and their fees are more than reasonable for the level of service you receive. I took both my dogs in yesterday for their routine exams and booster shots. One of my pups needs a blood panel done every so often due to a medication she is on- I received a follow up call from Dr. Nick today to let me know everything looked great. It was so nice to receive a personal call, rather than the front desk calling or sending off an email of results like I had received at previous offices. I am very happy to know both my dogs are under the care of a knowledgeable vet I can trust, that is looking out for their best interest. And on another note - one of my dogs is not one who just needs her checkup and shots every so often. From the time I brought her home she has always had some sort of issue that would land us in the vet. I had drained my wallet at another office prior to finding Blackhawk Vet Hospital with no management of the GI, skin and allergy issues my poor Frenchie suffered from. For the past year that we have been at BVH Dr. Nick has treated and managed all of my pups issues with options never explored at other offices. We have been seeing Dr. Nick for over 12 years now and can't speak highly enough about him! He is so kind and caring and extremely thorough. Obviously all vets love animals, but most animals don't love vets. Dr. Nick is like an animal whisperer... he really takes his time and talks to your pet in a very soft soothing voice while petting them before he starts any examination. I also appreciate that I have never had to wait to get in to see the doctor when I have had a sudden emergency... usually involving chocolate consumption by a certain beagle and cavalier lol! It wasn't funny at the time, but it's life with pets and Dr. Nick was wonderful all 3 times one or the other got into the good stuff over the years. Highly recommend! Dr. Nick, Jenn L. (the hospital manager), and the front desk staff are all super friendly, caring, and professional. I was referred to the clinic by a friend--and personal referrals make all the difference when it comes to trusting someone with your precious pet. I have been bringing my dogs here since they were puppies (about 12 years now). And now I bring my boyfriend's cats as well. The entire staff is wonderful and knowledgeable, and whatever they don't know, they are sure to find out and get back to me in a timely manner. My dog, Chief, has gone through a lot, from paralysis when he was a puppy to multiple incidents of back pain, neck pain, among others. Chief is a resilient little guy so he is all better now thank God. And I also owe a lot of thanks to Dr. Nick, Jen, and the rest of his staff for all the care they have given him throughout the years.  Dr. Nick checks up on Chief and all my pets after their visits, through phone call or email, just to make sure they are doing fine. When we bought our first puppy over 10 years ago the first thing we did was take her to Dr. Nick and he's taken great care of her for over a decade.  Half a year ago our dog could barely see, her eyes were all cloudy and crusted shut half the time, she lost half her fur and was constantly lethargic and itchy.  We took her to him and he had her back to playing like a puppy within two weeks, clear eyes, her fur coat coming back and just a happy puppy.  He's such a softie when it comes to animals and he figures out what's wrong before you're even finished dropping off the dog.  Honestly there's nobody I will trust with our animals except Dr. Nick.  We just acquired 2 more pups and guess where they're headed, to go see him!! He takes care of animals better than most owners and they instantly trust him, good sign all around, he's not just an amazing Doc he's also a great person and easy to talk to about what's going on because he genuinely listens. We have a Senior Pug, who is 16.5 years old . Over the last couple years, we have had some health challenges pop up. Dr. Nick is compassionate, and thorough. I bring both my dogs to this practice because I know they will be well cared for. Very pleased. I have two dogs who just turned a year old and I'm a very worry wart kind of dog owner. My baby ruger started throwing up a lot alll night and morning so I took him in. The girls up front are very sweet and loooovvveee animals which is very nice. Everyone I encountered was very sweet and very very nice to my dogs. Dr.nick is a great guy made my baby's feel welcome and really reassured me that ruger would be ok. It's pricey but honestly idc bc they are more important to me than myself just because I am the one who has chosen to take full care of them and they deserve the best care possible no matter the price and I am very confident in my encounter here. We have taken our puppy, Bentley, here 2x now for grooming. Liz is so personable and good at her craft.  She was very patient with me, as I was a bit anxious the first visit. Absolutely can't recommend them enough. I brought my almost-fifteen year old pitbull mix, Farrah, to Dr. Nick. As a senior, she was dealing with a variety of old dog things. Dr. Dr Nick and his staff were so incredibly kind and patient with her. She had terrible anxiety when going to the vet, and they took their time, brought her a blanket and some water, and when it came time to pay I was able to handle that in the private room.After my initial visit, my sweet girl's health went downhill. Dr. Nick was incredibly responsive and helpful with emails and questions I had. He recommended medications as well as offered kind words.This last Tuesday I had to have her put down. After over 14 years together, this was one of the hardest things I've had to do. I let Dr. Nick know via email (I chose an in-home service, due to her anxiety issues), and he was again incredibly thoughtful and compassionate. That evening, I came home to a beautiful rose in a vase on the porch from Blackhawk Vet. This office is full of wonderful people who genuinely care about your pet. My 11 yr old Chocolate Lab came down with a case of conjunctivitis.  Not sure if it was viral or allergic.  Her eye was so swollen.  We were looking for a vet close to home as I didn't want to make the drive all the way across town.  So we Yelped and Blackhawk Vet had the best ratings.We were able to come in 1st thing in the morning.  By the time we got in, the Dr. was,already reviewing our records from the previous vet.  Wow!  That's service!Dr. Nillsen was amazing.  She was so outgoing and has an obvious love for animals.  She always gave her expert opinion and didn't insist on anything we weren't comfortable with.  Her explanation of things was so easy to understand.  The front staff and tech were also very helpful and we didn't wait long for anything. I can't begin to express the love, campassion, & kindness that Dr. Nick and his team (staff) have shown MY PRECIOUS BENTLEY and myself. Bent is a Morkie and was only 1 1/2 lbs. when I first brought him in, as a baby. The size alone is scary...but everyone there, especially Dr. Nick, took my fears and instantly turned them into reassurance, thru all of their love, patience, gentleness, and compassion for my tiny angel.THANK YOU ALL for loving my baby and being so caring and kind. Great service and lovely office space. I called in at 8am on a Friday to try and schedule the soonest available appointment for my senior cat, Yoda. They were able to book me for 11am later that day. The vet technicians were great, friendly, extremely informative, and I could tell everyone was a real animal lover. They were very gentle with my senior cat.They have an in-house groomer available, and I am definitely going to bring Yoda back! I had a great deal of peace after I took my new puppy to See Dr. Krone.The little guy was sick, and I have had horrible experiences with vets not being assertive in the past, nor compassionate. I found Blackhawk Vet on this site, and then reviewed it on other sites, and read nothing but great things. I have been going to Dr. Krome for nearly 10 years, and after a slight detour to a much worse office, will continue for as long as I own pets. My dog visits their Grooming office frequently too and he always look pretty and fluffy. Highly recomended to anybody in the area! Read Less
