First I smelled skunk outside tonight. Then my neighbor came by frantic with her dog in the car. The dog was having seizures and foaming at the mouth. She said that she was going to drive to Marina. We're in Moss Landing. I told her that I would google a 24hr vet. Pet Specialists were the closest to us. I sent her a pin for direction and called and talked to Stephanie, letting her know that my neighbor was on the way. After her visit, my neighbor called and said that the dog had been sprayed in the mouth. They took her and pup outside, saline, washed mouth and gave her instructions and sent her home with out charge! She was so relieved and grateful. Thank you so much Pet Specialist!!!!!You're the best ever! I told my friend to go to walmart on the way home and get a kennel. Mine dog loves his kennel and feels safe in the car and bed at night. That it would be good especially after this incident to put him in the other room after bath, get some good rest. It was Friday around 4:30 pm .I called a few vet offices hoping they had time for a walk-in. My friends 2 yr old german shepherd mix had a small injury on one paw that seemed infected. My friend was out of town so I volunteered to take the dog to see a vet. I drove to 3 diff vet offices, none had time to see him. The consultation fees alone ranged from $75 to $125 -- any prescriptions, procedures, or exams would of course be additional charges. I was a bit hesitant to call the Pet Specislists assuming the fees would be much higher since they are a 24 hr hospital. I was wrong. The receptionist I spoke with was very professional, knowledgeable, spoke clearly, and was very polite. The consultation fee was only $99, thats less than 2 of the other places I called. The office was easy to find. There was plenty of parking available and the office was big and very clean. I recognized the beautiful young ladies voice as the recptionist I spoke with over the phone. They took the dog in, spoke to my friend over the phone, and treated the dog. The handsome vet came out to the lobby, introduced himself, and explained the dogs condition. He politely suggested a flea/tick treatment and explained how to administer the prescribed treatment. Nobody tried to push any expensive products, there werent any expensive unnecessary tests added, nor did they give me some sky high estimate . The entire bill for an emergency consultation with meds was only $283. Atleast 2 of the other offices would have charged way more had they actually tàken him in. The 2 female receptionists/assistants were the best out of all the vet offices i have visited in the past ( at least 5 in the Salinas area). The vet himself was more professional, polite, and genuinely seemed to care (something a couple of other vets who i wont mention, could learn from). I was very pleased with this vet clinic, pleasantly surprised with their lower prices in comparison to other clinics. I will certainly be back . I strongly recommend this clinic for your pets health needs. Read Less

Unfortunately, I was here for the worse possible reason. The staff at the clinic was wonderful. Compassionate, concerned, involved. The vet and tech were so kind and gentle with my dog. Dr. Fradkin had laid out my options earlier for treatment strategies but then laid it right out. Hairy was going to get worse no matter what we did and death by kidney failure is horrible. He assured me that letting him go, even though it's the hardest thing to do, was kindest thing to do. Of course, he was right. Simply put, Dr. Fradkin is a mensch and I was lucky to have him. We had to put our Maxi down after 14 years of faithful doggy service. The staff was extremely attentive and compassionate. The Dr. was super attentive, walking us through the entire time and comforting Max as well even after he was gone. I cannot say enough about how appreciative I am. Max was a 90 lb lab mix. He could no longer walk. They had nurses come to help him onto a gurney from the back of my car and told us exactly what would happen. The whole experience was heartbreaking but they treated us with dignity and compassion all the way through. I can't thank them enough for helping us through this. I highly recommend to anyone. With two pets in crisis over a three week period, I have turned over my heart and soul to Pet Specialists. The outcome for one is not written yet, but the other is happy and at home. A person will blanche at the cost but frankly, there is value in that cost; from the front desk staff, to the nursing care, to the vets. With their policy of spelling out all costs, one can make an informed decision. Most important, I wish they could know how grateful I am for their kindness, patience, and professionalism in how they continue to deal with me. I have owned and raised many, many dogs over the years and none of this vet stuff gets easier. I trust and know the pet care at Pet Specialists is stellar, but from my side of the crate door, the human care is over the moon. Thank you. Read Less

I went in because my dog was bleeding from the nose, when we got there we waited 20 mins to be seen. A lady doctor came in and was asking me questions, another vet tech who was awesome took his vitals. Not once did the vet try to look up his nose or suggest putting a scope up to see, I don't know about you but if a dog is bleeding from the nose the fist thing I would do is look up there, but I'm not a vet so I didn't say anything thinking she was the professional. She diagnosed my pup with stress and anxiety she said that it can cause bleeding, and I am moving out of state so my pup was a little stressed. She sent us home with a $60 blood clotting medication and a $50 Xanax for dogs. We went home and 3 hours later he was bleeding even worse and not only that but choking on the blood. So now blood was coming out of his nose and mouth. It was horrible. I rushed him back to have them put him under and out a scope up there. Come to find out it was a really bad cut in his nose. If the fist vet would have done this I wouldn't have to come back and spend another $350, I was furious. And not only that but I went online and found the SAME blood clotting medication for $6 dollars plus $8 for 2 day shipping. YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME. They charged me $60 dollars for something that cost only $14 dollars. Such a joke.Read Less

Pet Specialists of Monterey charged us almost $200 an something they didn't fix. Took my pet to another vet & they found the problem right away. They don't let you come back into the exam room with your pet, so I'm not sure they did anything. She had a very large foxtail stuck in her eye, but they did not look closely (if at all, since I wasn't able to be back with my pet to verify) and there it stayed. Took her to another vet and they found it in seconds! It's a shame I can't rate zero stars. we took her to the vet on June 25th, they didn't look very well because they didn't find it (requiring a second visit while wasting our family's money). Not to mention Padmé being uncomfortable for longer than necessary. €Pet Specialists of Monterey (my first visit for my pet): -presenting complaint: poss foxtail in left eye -problem list: swelling appears resolved currently -diagnostics: ...proparacaine OS - eye sweep, no foreign body detected -assessment: conjunctivitis OS with history of swelling this am (swelling currently resolved) €VCA Ocean View Animal Hospital (my second visit): -eyes: OS ... large foxtail stuffed above globe of left eye--pointed end is stuck in the bulbar conjunctival!! My wife took our adult cat here who is sick and we ended up spending $550 for the vet to tell us "Well we might never know what is wrong with her but here are a list of vets you can take her too that might be able to help you.". Also, my wife informed them at this time that we didn't have a whole bunch of money (as they require payment at time of service) and I suppose it was the intention of the vet to let her go untreated perhaps leading to death since a young couple didn't have a plethora of money at that precise second in time. I was under the impression that it was your job to find out what is wrong with any persons pet and determine if it is an emergency or not. I was tied up and unable to leave work and the staff treated my wife quite poorly being a young woman alone with her sick cat. Thank's for absolutely nothing. Read Less

I was frantic when I visited this place because our pup had gotten into some chicken bones and had eaten them. I was worried about a slew of things because they can puncture vital organs and our pup likes to swallow things whole. We went at around 11pm and were helped by a smiling front desk person who was very kind. Our pup was already having gas and was letting it all out in the lobby. I was embarrassed at first but they reminded me it's normal. We ended up working with Dr.Parker (no relation) who took our pup back to do some sort of X-ray of our pups tummy. She was able to tell us the bones were pretty broken up and the spiral things I was feeling in our pups tummy where steel sutured from when our pup was fixed(done before we got our pup). She also mentioned the possibility of the stomach flipping but that it was rare. Actually gave me the choice to take our pup home and see if it passes in 24 hours through stool...or to leave our pup over night for observation. We took our pup home and it passed but I never felt so in control over my options.. It was nice... Also, I asked about my pups itching problem and she mentioned they have a dermatologist on staff who works wonders. I have not been back yet 1)because we haven't had an emergency and 2) I'm waiting for the patient plans to come out so the bills will be a little less expensive. In the end, I went there for an emergency because I felt something in my pups stomach after getting into some bones and would do whatever it takes to save our pup. A Friend of mine was originally referred to this place by a Dr. At our normal veterinary office when her cat was having some problems... We ended up at Ryan Ranch because it's (cheaper). Needless to say her cat almost died at Ryan Ranch emergency pet hospital. This is why we chose pet specialist moving forward. I would go back.Read Less

Our cat was very ill and we had know idea what was wrong with him. We were referred to The pet specialists of Monterey by the crossroads veterinarian hospital in Carmel. We were very scared as to the outcome of Stuart's health. The people were the most friendliest, kindest, honest and extremely knowledgeable I'd ever talked with. They explained things step by step as they went along and were very kind. I couldn't believe how knowledgeable they were. I am so thankful they were there to help us. I couldn't ask for a more wonderful group of people. We found out that Stuart has several things wrong with him but with the help of these people Stuart seems to be getting a lot better day by day. He hadn't eaten for 4 days before we took him to them. He is now eating happily and purring more than ever. We will be taking him to the Crossroads Veterinarian Hospital in Carmel, Ca., for follow-up appointments and we feel very content doing that. These two Veterinarian hospitals worked well together. I am extremely thankful and so happy these people were there. Dr. Parker and Dr. Fradkin were amazing. Ashley should have "Dr." also in front of her name! The other day I had to rush my dog Tinker to the emergency room at Pet Specialists Of Monterey because she couldn't breathe. After x-rays we found out her trachea had collapsed, we were devastated, we thought that was it we would have to put her to sleep. Fortunately with today's modern advancements in pet medicine there was a specialist on staff that knew how to do a procedure where a Stent is installed to open the dogs airway. I can't even explain how stressful something like this is, their like kids, their our babies. The procedure was done and I'm happy to say Tinker is home resting and breathing with ease, and expected to live a long life. No one wants to hear that obviously, but she gave us options that would ensure Doodle has a comfortable/happy quality of life.

The staff were wonderful to Stuart and to us as well. =-) Read Less

Thank you so much Dr Marsolais, Dr Montes, and all the staff at Pet Specialists Of Monterey you have given Tinker a second chance at life. Read Less
