My experience at this animal hospital with Dr. Earnheart and her staff was very unsatisfactory. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by Dr. Earnheart, who told me right off the bat that my dog needed to loose weight, and recommended that I buy products that were sold there. My dog needed a gluten free diet, and that these products, which were expensive would be in his best interests. Along these same lines, I was told that he had allergeries from the food he was eaten and that an antihistamine would be proscribed, one which I subsequently found out from going to another vet, was very rare, and rarely used in the field.
Next, I was worried about my dog not having his usual energy. I was told that he needed a $385 blood panel. Additionally an Xray which was almost $400 would be needed to check on his organs. His temperature was taken, along with weight, but his body was not examined in a thorough way.
After the Xray was processed, Dr. Earnheart called me in the room to show me what she believed was a possible mass on his abdomen, and explained that his liver and spleen were small, which could mean cancer. Of course, I began sobbing and sobbing, and she said she was sorry and walked out of the room. I was also told that a radiology consult was needed, and it would cost $144. The Dr. believed that the Xray showed hip dysplasia.
She told me the dog needed a rectal exam prior to this, and when she went on the floor to exam him believed another procedure needed to be performed and another $50 was tacked onto the bill. A total for $1201 without any surgery. Two medications were given, one with 14 pills and the other a few more. Dr.Earnheart assured me that I would be called the next day with the blood results. When I went to pay, I was sobbing, and kept being told by the staff that they were sorry.
The next day, I waited for the call, and low and behold, I waited until 3pm when I called there. Still no call back at 4:40 when I called again and demanded to know the results after I spent all the money. When I was called back, I was told the results looked ok, but that my dog could use an ultrasound and thyroid tests. I was very upset, having spend so much money without any kind of a meaningful diagnosis. Stephanie called me back and explained that she had spoken to Dr. Earnheart who said she could not confirm or deny cancer, that more tests would need to be done. Why would I want thyroid tests if my dog had liver cancer? I cancelled the consult, since it felt that all these people wanted was to get as much money from me as they could. At that point, I decided to find another vet. I just did not trust this place anymore.
In conclusion, I believe that Dr. Earnheart is a charlatan, praying on the insecurities of her clients, trying to make as much money as she can for her office, with utter disregard for the pet owner. I was put through real hell, thinking that my dog had liver or spleen cancer, and frankly, my dog was more like a punctuation mark at the end of a sentence. The practices are deceptive and border on fraud. I wish I had read all the reviews before going here, and see that many people felt the same.
As it turns out, my dog does not have cancer. I took him to a place where I was charged under $100 for a real exam. I took the Xrays from Dr. Earnheart and the blood work with me. This vet looked at the same Xray and said my dog had a normal spleen and liver. Furthermore, there were no hip Xrays done, so any diagnosis of the hips was surprising.
Please do not waste your money nor time going here. None of us like animal cruelty, but here, the cruelty is directed at the owners of our precious darlings, where a person in power feels like she can prey on our love and fears to get the most money possible for her practice.
Spare yourself the pain that I had to do worrying about loosing my beloved pet. The silver lining is that I found a great Vet, where I trusted their opinion and one who made a diagnosis, even though I spent under $100.
