If you have an exotic pet this is the place to go! I live in Azusa, with traffic it takes me anywhere from an hour to and hour and a half so its definitely worth the drive. I found out about this place about 3 years ago by yelping exotic pet vets, this place came up so I decided to give it a try and they did not disappoint. I have been here on the weekends and during the week. The times I have visited have been in the morning. My bunny was acting funny late at night so I was little worried, I knew they were closed so i decided to search up a pet hospital that treat exotics, i found a couple of them. They were all a disappointment, every hospital I called were charging me about $300 for a check up, plus anything else my bunny needed. Some places had ridiculous prices. One place was charging $5000 to keep him over night. So i decided to wait until they opened, as soon as they opened they took me in, they didn't make me wait at all. The vet came in did a thorough examination, part of the reason I like coming here, aside from the examination the vet tells you all these funny stories and jokes BONUS POINTS. My bunny was fine nothing wrong with him. The best part was I didn't get overcharged! How much did I pay? $40. That's right 40 freaking bucks and THE BEST PART that price was with a NAIL TRIM. Im sure this is the price for small pets but I honestly doubt it would a crazy amount for larger pets. I love Above and Beyond Pets. I've got to say I've been coming here for many years and the Dr don't change he's the best vet I've ever known, and his staff is awesome as well if u want to feel Like you're in a safe place id recommend him. Over 11 years I've known about this clinic and I wouldn't recommend any better than this one he's actually a vet who loves pets 😊I could keep going talking about how Good this place is but you have to see it yourself. Great, affordable, caring and SUPER knowledgeable Dr. Citek!! Staff is uber nice and helpful too :) I recommend making an appointment for faster in/out!!My dogs and cats both come to visit, and have had their fair shares of surgical procedures and necessary vaccinations! Hey, they are low cost!!  Meow! Woof!Sometimes the larger stuff seems expensive, however, compared to VCA and other vets around town, not so much! Call around, I guarantee you will not find better service for less. And Yes, even teeth cleaning! If you love your pets, they will be well taken care of here! Also, each time I come in, Dr teaches ME something new, I love it...he schools me to use my flea comb XD  I know, I know....It's a good thing...I get educated and my pets get healthy!! They've been handling my bird for a few years now and the doctor does a good job giving me a check up on my bird and is knowledgable. Most trust worthy vet around here to do a trim on the beak and nails. Only issue I have with them is that every time we seem to come here our file is misplaced. Read Less

I took my dog in for the first time to get an exam, get her immunization shots and inquire about teeth cleaning.  She had been scratching a lot for a few days and I wanted to get to the bottom of that.The name of the clinic on their business cards is not above and beyond pet clinic. The staff is fairly low quality; the only thing they are actually good at is explaining their rules and collecting money before services are given.  I actually paid twice while I was there. First I paid for the exam up front. I asked to just pay for the shots too, but that was against the rules. Then the Dr. did the exam and sent the girl into the exam room where she had me pay for the shots in the exam room. I found a doctor to be quite full of himself.  He and his minions tried to sell me on over $100 in blood tests in order to do a teeth cleaning because they don't do teeth cleaning without anesthesia. My last vet did.Later on they tried to sell me on the bloodwork again to prepare for the unnecessary surgery they were trying to sell me.After a quick examination the Dr. recommended giving my dog Claritin for the scratching. Instructions were quick, matter-of-fact, casual and missing any details about what dose to give or how often.  He never did figure out that she was scratching because she has fleas. The waiting room furniture is just about as cheap as it can possibly be and get this: there's actually a sign in the waiting room that says not to let your dogs on the chairs.  Really?I'm still looking for a good vet nearby. Been seeing Gerry Citek, from 1989 to 2016 that's 28 years. I find him to be a decent VET. He has treated 8 of my cats, and 2 dogs as well as 2 rabbits in all those years. I find him to be fair and up front about what's going on with my pets. I find that the most expensive cost is X-rays and blood work, but I told from other Vet's that those items are the most in cost. Don't know why they can't tell me. I will say this there are other Vet's and just the office call alone can range from $55.00 to $ 90.00, so I feel the $20.00 office call is really reasonable. I know people say he was from the East Coast and doesn't get West Coast people, but my family came from Pennsylvania to California in 1959. And it's all good in my book. The only problem is I've been to Vet's who will let you make payments when things are tight, ( before Dr.Citek.) But his office doesn't allow that. But some time I feel it would help a lot of people who can't pay a large sum up front. In all I think he's COOL. Read Less

Both the Dr and is staff were great! They treated my bulldog very gentle and she liked them.. They did NOT over charge me or try to sale me things I didn't need. The Dr actually told me I could save money and get some meds at CVS for cheep. This is the only vet I will go to from now on and have recommend then to all my friends.. Read Less

There is this skinny man their that I honestly believe is on meth constantly I've seen more dogs put down then saved .. and if you truly love your pet don't take them here. . Best place I recommend is in Huntington park between Boyle and Slauson Read Less

We were very happy with Dr. Gerry results. He walks in looks over the chart asked some questions and checked out our cat and informed us "This is easy no problem" cat has this issue her symptoms are normal take these meds We will give her fluids take some blood and come back in three days. Wow the other place we use to go to would of wanted to keep her overnight charged a huge fee. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. When one staff member could not answer our questions the other one would jump on the conversation and done and answer it. Dr. Citek always takes good care of our furbaby! He's helped us with regular check-ups, dog bites and knee injuries without ever hurting our wallet. These people killed our sweet kitty. His name was Blacky. Such a sweet cat, loved to play, would come and hug you, this little guy would literally purr all day. Blacky had developed a stoppage in his urethra (crystal deposits). The doctor insisted we would have to perform a surgery to essentially remove his penis (for 1500.00). Well I didn't exactly have that laying around, so it took me a few days (by the way this was in conjunction with the 450.00 I paid for the visit plus some "crystal disolving" cat food and medicine.) He sent us home with instructions to periodically squeeze my cats bladder (and showed me how to force the cat to urinate, as if my cat wasn't already in agony... poor thing would cry when I tried). Throughout the next 2 days I am calling to state my progress (to include a friend from work willing to put the charge on a credit card over the phone which they refused) , to assure the vet that I am trying to find a way to get Blacky back in for surgery, to get assurance that I am doing the right thing, that there are no other options. By Friday I had raised the money, and called to confirm I could bring Blacky in for the emergency surgery. The receptionist answers, OH, the doctor only stays half a day on Friday and he's not going to be in Saturday; but we are really concerned for your cat so you should seek emergency service because he may not live through the weekend." Friday evening, finds my family and I at the Emergency Vet Clinic in Bellflower. Turns out, all Blacky needed was a $500.00 catheter... He would have lived, but his kidneys had failed while these people played games. Three days of dialysis later, we made the decision as a family to put our poor kitty to sleep. You murdered our cat. The first time I came here was because my rabbit was limping. I was skeptical after reading the reviews but went anyway. I was greeted really well and was helped right away. The vet was horrible! Went in there with my hamster and he kept calling him a rat!! And kept saying "well what we would do with a dog or a cat" and I was getting so annoyed because I don't care what you would do with a dog or cat I want to know what you would do with a hamster. My hamster was also asleep in his cage when I brought him in and instead or blowing on him to wake him up the vet just grabbed at him which scared my hamster and caused him to try to bite and the vet handled him roughly, my hamster had never tried to bite me because everyone who knows anything about hamsters knows not to just grab at them when they are asleep. I seriously don't think this guy knew anything about hamsters and I'm sorry I even wasted my time or money at this place. I will never go there again. Read Less

After adopting a kitten that had been thrown in a dumpster and taking her home I called around for an hour looking for a place that would see her. She was super tiny and itchy all over with bare patches so I was kind of desperate. Everywhere I called was booked and had me waiting until tomorrow or Monday. A friend recommended this clinic, they closed at two and asked me to come quickly. The staff isn't the friendliest but I was seen quickly and for a good price they assessed her and treated her. I'll be taking her back for the rest of her treatment and her general care. The doctor is very straightforward and knows his stuff. No tiptoeing or fluff, just facts. I love love love this clinic for my diamond. The staff were so amazing, loving and caring with my Diamond, treated her with so much care. The Dr. Knows what he is doing and did a great job with extracting my baby molars. They cured my dog in no time, right away knew what was wrong with him unlike the first place (Pico Rivera Animal Hospital) I took him to, they wanted to keep him overnight to charge more. I'm very content with the vet and staff. They go straight to the point and it was relatively inexpensive unlike other vets who want to charge thousands for doing nothing. I recently learned never to go to Crossroads Animal Hospital, they charged me over $1000 and weren't able to cure my dog, while his regular vet charged me nothing to flush out his stomach (Alameda Animal Hospital, they're also amazing just like Above & Beyond Pet Clinic).
