Every time I’ve tried to bring my dog in, the doctor is seeing the last patient of the day. It’s not even 8 pm yet on a Monday, and they can’t see him. So their operating hours are a loose suggestion. Don’t waste your money. If you’re not there by 5pm, your pay isn’t getting seen. Apparently, only one doctor works here? Read Less

Dr. Prescott really worked with us to make sure our diabetic dog got the best treatment. She has chronic bronchitis but some of the steroids can be used on her. So far so good with the medications he prescribed.. She is blind and a senior, and it was nice that he also was mindful of how much money we needed to spend - for example they tried to get the X-rays from the last clinic she was seen recently :D. The place has been bought by new owners and it's very clean and pretty small. They only take walk ins. Also my puppy and cat get shots there and other small things done. Affordable. Read Less

First visit and loved this place. We were able to walk in (your first visit is free by the way) and got seen really quickly. The staff is so nice and attentive, you can tell they really care about animals! We were super nervous because our pup had a little emergency and they eased our fears and gave him the help he needed! I loved Dr. Barrera and his assistant -- they were super gentle with my dog and incredibly helpful. I've seen people complain about the counter staff but the people who helped us were kind on the phone and in person! We're definitely going back! Read Less

Dr Barrera is wonderful and loves my cat. This review is for his front counter staff member today. I brought in a stool sample from my cat wrapped in four plastic bags, as today it's 90 degrees out & hauling excrement across town was not something I wanted to do, but something I HAD to do to check on my cats health. I placed the bag on the counter, told the girl what it was & told her I had to schedule an appointment for both my cats, not just the one I was concerned might be ill. The worker looks at the bag on the counter and asks me if I want to talk about cremation or burial. I explained again that it was A STOOL SAMPLE & suggested she might need a coffee if she wasn't awake, attempting pleasant conversation. She gets snide instead, telling me she had coffee and is awake, then passes the stool sample off. She says it's going to be $70 to run the tests, which I was not told over the phone when I called. I said I'd pay when I came with the cats for the appointment.Had they just said they couldn't do that it would be one thing. Instead, this worker narrows her eyes at me and smiles happily saying that they wouldn't be about to run tests. What kind of person gets pleasure out of not being able to help someone sick cat? Dr Barrera is wonderful with my cat, but I don't trust my cats health/records with an establishment that would hire someone directly in contact with the public who would act so mean for no reason. Today I walked in around 8:40 p.m. and the receptionist with the Multi-colored hair automatically said that my dogs could not be seen because she had to go home at 10 pm. That she had to get everything completed before she left and that is why my dogs could not be seen. So, I asked there are no signs that states  " NO dogs seen after 8 pm". Her response was " Well, you should have called first!" I did respond  " then what is the point of having late hours if you stop working after 8pm?? Where are the signs up that state, "NO SERVICE AFTER 8PM?" Even though the website states " Last patient seen at 9:15pm."  So then what is it 8pm or 9:15pm??? Never bothered to ask what was wrong, refer me to another clinic or give an option to come back the following. Just brushed us away. Completely has lost the love for the animals. It's sad that the PROFESSIONALISM from this vet has DECLINED. And, its mainly because of employees that provide POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Read Less

I've gone to other "fancier" vets however I always end up coming back here because you get the same quality vets at a cheaper price. Also they offer better treatment options that work. They have been with us through everything: they saved my puppy when he got parvo and recently treated him for fleas. I just can't say enough about how great the doctors here are and how thankful I am for all they do for my buddy. I have moved farther now but I continue to bring my buddy here because time and time again they have proven themselves and I trust them with my buddy health more than the other vets whom we've visted. This evening around 930pm, my dog had a seizure. Keep in mind I have never encountered this before, I took her to the closest vet possible since she didn't look so good and since my vet was closed and a little further. I rushed her in & within seeing my dog, they said $65 if you want her to be seen right away(my dog was limp! Of course I want her to be seen right away!) Within seconds of me explaining and stating that I assumed it was a seizure, they confirmed it, like how? and that they were going to give her Valium, which I wasn't aware that this was benefiticial and do some analysis.Since I didn't have enough money On Me, I told them if they can just give her the Valium and I was going to follow up with HER doctor. ( I told them I didn't have enough when The doctor said the blood test were required and so I agreed by him placing fear on me, he said I was not able to wait!)I agreed, but they said they need a form of payment before they started analaysis. Which I had to go back home and get my card. I paid $65 for them to start Valium treatment, since I didn't just want her to be sitting there with not treatment as they put it. "We won't start any treatment or test without any form of payment." but was verbally advise the blood work ($200) were not going to get started before reiceiving payment. I agreed, rushed home came back, tried to pay and was told to wait, the doctor wanted to talk to me about treatment? I was really confused, and waited. The doctor came out and gave me NO EXPLANTION OF WHAT WAS WRONG OR WHAT SHE HAD. Or how to prevent it. He just accused me of negligence. I placed a deposit down for her treatment ONLY and when I came to pay when my card was declined ( which was a problem with the back, which was closed at the time CARECREDIT), I was told they were going to keep my dog, even though they verbally said they were going to do the analasysis when I came back with my form of payment. Came back to pay to start the tests, to find out they had been done and my form of payment had been declined. I spoke to them before hand advising of issue but they still did the test, which I did not sign ANY SORT OF AGREEMENT. I asked what I was able to do - no other option was given. The girl at friend desk gave me attitude as if she was annoyed by me when I was along her for a solution. I mean, regardless of the matter they left something in my dog since they were rushing her out since they closed at 10pm, so I needed to be back. They didn't impress the first time I was there and this time was even worse. Please guys, keep in mind that the dog I brought in was my family and for a doctor whom says he saw her to keep calling my dog a boy was devesatating!!This place is the worse! All they care is about the money, not at all about the animals!!! I'm forced to go back and fix this problem, because at the end of the day they didn't give me the required information I needed, which was WHY SHE WAS GETTING THE SEIZURES!I'm still forced to go back, ugh. Update:Manager called this morning on her day off to apologize for asking us to leave last night and offer us a priority spot to get our dog seen. It's really great to see this level of responsiveness and has turned our experience around.  Thank you! ____________________________________________________________Waited three hours to get our dog seen and just because he wasn't profusely bleeding we were kicked out 30 minutes before they closed. Very disappointed in the service and will not be recommending their services to anybody. 4 other patients were asked to leave as well after waiting for an extended period of time. We now return home with our injured dog. If a patient has waited 3 hours they deserve to be seen. Read Less

Many expensive tests were unnecessarily recommended (x-ray, blood test, urinalysis) to treat a straightforward condition with a clearly defined treatment plan (fluids, antibiotics and narcotics). As soon as I declined the expensive tests, my cat was no longer welcome to stay past his procedure time, though they said they would keep him until he urinated to check his health was restoring. The prescription food was full of fillers and pork and beef byproduct, although advertised as chicken liver - even basic brands from the pet store compared to be much more wholesome. I did not receive a comprehensive explanation on my pet's condition, nor verbal briefing on his antibiotics regimen. This place really sucks for desemination of information, wouldn't reccomend. If your dog is sick DON'T take him here !! These people just want money. I went mid July of 2015 on a Wednesday and wish I had gone somewhere else. The receptionist was "sweet" when talking about money but rude when it was about anything else. The vet only cared about getting more business not the well being of my dog. I know that nothing can change my dog from no longer being here but this place was a trying to take advantage. My 12 yr old dog wasn't eating and sleeping more than usual he also started crying when I would pet him in certain areas. I took him here they gave him a blood test and called me back 2 days later. The vet told me it was his kidneys (due to his age )and he started suggesting treatment i asked how much he said he would call me back in a few minutes. I got a call back from the receptionist saying it would start at $700 and go up if he didn't improve. I told them I would call them back she said no problem. (I started getting emotional and had to get off the phone) Later that same day my dad called at around 5 pm my dad had some follow Up questions like "how bad were his kidneys" and "would this treatment cure him" the woman who answered was really rude she said "we already explained this to your daughter ask her" (umm NO you didn't) my dad asked to speak to the vet any vet so that HE would know what was going on she then said that the vet wasn't there and he wouldn't be there until Monday to call back then and hung up. Really? Its 5 pm you don't close till 10 pm and you're open on the weekend so who's there taking care of the animals if the vet is gone? I picked up his blood test results a few days later and took them to an other vet. When the other vet saw the results his jaw dropped he said his kidneys were really bad beyond saving he said anything he would try and do would just be painful for him and not cure him. I told him what the Echo park quacks suggested he said no maybe if he was a younger dog it might help but not in this case. He also said that based on the results something else was wrong as well. He touched my dog all over and he cried and tried to bite him ( same thing happened . He said yeah your dog is in a lot of pain he's suffering the other place shouldn't have given you false hope. Its your dog's time to be at peace. So it went from he needs treatment IV for a few days, antibiotics, and an anti-inflammatory. Also a change in diet so he could get better. To his kidneys are really bad nothing is going to change that he is in pain. I'm glad someone was honest with me but mad that echo park wasn't. all they wanted was money it didn't matter to them if the treatment would make my dogs' last days painful and uncomfortable they just wanted to get paid. I took my 2 cats for some general care... 3 vaccines & nose drop vaccine each (8 vaccines total) + one received treatment for tape worm. Chui also had some bumps which the doctor diagnosed to be an allergic reaction on it's way out - no sign of fever. I never got the Doctors name. He was an older fellow with white hair and what I suspect was a light French accent (despite his accent, he was easy to understand). Most important, his manner with my cats was gentle & pleasant. Neither reacted to the any of the shots. And the way he administered the nose drops was sneaky - they didn't know what was coming and it was over before they did. Both my cats seem to forgive me as soon as they were home. The bill for everything came to $215, which I felt was reasonable. Read Less

Dr. Filipescu has been taking care of our 14 yr. old dog Lucy for four years. He is devoted to her care and every time she has had a problem, he has known exactly what to do. Recently, he performed surgery on her to remove a grapefruit-sized tumor from her chest. He came in early on a Saturday to do this. She came through with flying colors due to his expertise. Her post-operative care has been superb. The doctor explained everything to us, and while his English is not the best, if one is patient and asks questions, one will get all the necessary information. The front office is kind and caring, and the place is spotless. Dr. F's rates are much less that those of other vets who are not as attentive or available. His asst. is a deaf man who loves animals. You cannot go wrong taking your pet to Echo Park Animal Hospital. Lucy is never afraid going in there, as she was at our other vet. Thank you, EPAH!!! Read Less

My cat got very sick all of a sudden and I took her to Echo Park Animal Hospital. Dr. Filipescu was so generous and kind and caring. He kept her for two days, overnight, free of charge, to keep her under his observation because she was very sick and deteriorating rapidly. He gave her antibiotic shots and pain shots and fed her wet food, vitamins, and water from a syringe every four hours to make sure she got nutrients and hydration when she couldn't eat or drink water. I ultimately had to put her to sleep because she kept getting worse and wasn't responding to antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatment. Dr. Filipescu let me stay with her as long as I wanted during the euthanasia and was very sweet to me after it was over and I was upset. He even called me a few days later when test results came in to give me more information about what made my cat sick even though she had already passed away. He is knowledgeable and knows what he is doing. I took my cat to another vet in between visits to Echo Park Animal Hospital and the other vet basically gave me the same information I got from Dr. F and the same recommendations on how to proceed with her symptoms. I had no problems communicating with Dr. F, he answered all my questions -- and believe me I had tons of them. Overall, he obviously cares very much about the animals and about their owners too. Plus, all the treatment he gave my cat over the course of three days amounted to $264. He didn't even charge me for the euthenasia. Anybody who thinks he is doing this for the money is just wrong. My kitty was traumatized for 3 days, did not eat, was stressed, depressed and terrified! I'm ashamed to say I read the reviews and thought maybe it was just a few isolated incidents and since it was a local hospital thought I'd give it a try. I also walked out crying! She went in only for shots and a mani-pedi but they could not control my lovable pet and ended up sedating her. There was absolutely no TLC on behalf of the doctor or his assistant, they were very "clinical" about the whole thing and were not informative at all. I kept asking questions and my only response was a mumble, not to mention that when I asked about whether she would have to be kept over night after being spayed I got opposite answers from the doctor and the front desk attendant. Also, I paid for an exam and they did not check anything except her weight and temperature, she clearly has ear mites and they didn't even notice. Pet lovers, please do not make the same mistake I did, take your baby somewhere else! You wont be sorry. Read Less

AWFUL!!!! This place doesn't deserve a star, except with the exception that the receptionist was really nice. The ""doctor"" did not even read the sheet the nurse wrote describing why my pet was there. Then he argued with me and wouldn't even listen to my concern. Then he tried to sell me another procedure, completely unrelated! I was so frustrated that I got up to leave, then he told me that I would still have to pay for a visit, even though he didn't even examine or touch my pet! This place is obviously only out to make money w/o any real concern for taking care of animals. Read Less

I had a large adult dog who needed to be fixed. It was a difficult procedure due to her size. I live a good distance from Echo Park so tried other vets first. None would service me. Echo Park animal hospital was the only place that would do the job. They had the competence and the compassion and remembered me and my dog for years afterwards. I read the other reviews and all I can say is that these the vets and staff did everything they could to give my dog top quality health care. No frills, just basic competent care.

I was there to neuter my miniature schnauzer and I was very pleased with the concierge and the doctor. They were very sweet. Also I appreciate this place because of their price. In LA all this big companies as Petco, Banfield, Petsmart and so and so have crazy prices for all their services and not a great customer service. Better to help small companies like this one to still be on the market and be appreciated.Read Less

Read Less

One word review would be unprofessional. The Doctor has no passion for animals, and simply mumbles half english about whats wrong. My dog had an analgland swell up and he immediately squeezed it open and my dog screamed in pain dripping blod, BEFORE he told me what was wrong or what my options were. I grabbed my dog out of his hands and walked out. The receptionist lady takes personal calls on her cell phone while I've been at the counter. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

I personally had a great experience with them. Read Less
