Just brought our pup in for neutering and I kept waiting for an exorbitant price (add-ons, etc) while talking to the *very* sweet assistant. Surprise! The reasonable price they quoted was the price I paid.
I lost a best buddy pup a few years ago after taking him to a vet on Cuyamaca in Santee. I couldn't afford the dental work on him and they didn't tell me about Care Credit. My little rattie, Courage, declined rapidly because of bad teeth, and suffered tremendously until his death. It was preventable, and I'm still furious with them.
To me, a vet should help people help their pets, and cost is obviously an issue for some of us. I think Bestet clinic is a God-send. I will definitely be taking my other pets there. I recommend them highly for their actual caring and cost effectiveness, and the nicest assistant!

Began taking my dogs here when Dr. Aaron Porterfield, DVM joined the practice. My pet owner friends and I have followed him for years, as he's a Relief Vet with no primary location of practice. We keep tabs on which clinic he's currently working at, so we've taken our pets from San Diego all the way to El Cajon. Bastet Veterinary by far is our all time favorite! The assistants along with Kathy the Office Mgr are kind and very attentive, they really care about their 2 and 4 legged clients! Difficult to find anymore since many clinics are only focused on the $$$$ aspect and not personal service. Everytime I've been there the waiting room seems to have people who've been going there for years, that's always a great sign.
My two dog babies Dylan (Golden Ret) and Rufus (Rotti X) are both older boys, 9 and 12 yrs respectively. I've been very blessed with both being healthy, but as age creeps up so have the senior dog ailments. Teeth, skeletal issues, cysts and recently stomach problems have brought us out to see Dr. Porterfield at Bastet Vet. The boys are always calm and relaxed when going there, a fantastic sign for any pet owner. Dr. Porterfield truly loves his profession and always greets the boys with love and affection. He's extremely tuned into them and always keeps me informed of the best course of treatment. Mind you, over the years with at least 2 dogs and 3 cats in the house, Dr. Porterfield has been our savior on many occasion. He's also treated my cats and unfortunately had to put my favorite one down several years ago. I couldn't have asked for a more kind and caring person to assist my Peanut in crossing over.
As animal lovers we want the best for our animals, they're members of the family. It's often times difficult to find a veterinarian with staff you ultimately trust with your pets lives, since they can't talk and tell you who they would prefer &/or choose. Dr. Porterfield is a rare breed on his own. Instinctively he knows what needs to be addressed and always show the utmost professionalism and compassion, something not easily found, if not virtually impossible anymore.
Since finding Bastet Vet Clinic I'm extremely blessed to not only have Dr. Porterfield but also the best pet clinic around San Diego. It's a drive out there, but well worth it!

I saw this place while taking my kids to Menchies to get some frozen yogurt. I thought to give them a try. Took my cat in for breathing problems. While filling out all the paper work they gave us, I saw a man go to another room with his Big Mac from McDonald's. I didn't know he was the vet. Waited to be taken to a room. Mind you we were the only ones there. Finally, a lady took us to the exam room. She said wait for the vet to come in. Waiting again. Dr comes in, he apologized for the wait and that he fell asleep after eating lunch (at 3pm really!?). He did not know what he was doing. He never touched my cat; I was holding him and he listened to his lungs with his stethoscope. The vet didn't even have a watch to do a breathing count, we used my phone. He was too busy trying to sell me medication that he had onsite... Unprofessional and I feel cheated. More importantly now I have to take my cat somewhere else to get checked out.

My family and I have been long time customers of Bastet Vet and every single time we have been very impressed with their service. I got my puppy spayed her recently and they took the best care of her, all while working with me on price. Not once did they try to up-sell me on unnecessary products and procedures and were completely honest with me when it came down to the imperative treatments for my animals. I also had to take my elderly cat in when he was attacked by a coyote and they provided the best possible care for him, going so far as to stay open late for me to bring him in - all while keeping the price down as much as they could. Couldn't love Bastet Vet more!

Took a litter of labs in today, they were automatically rude and said I was early then when they checked said sorry your not it we are running behind, they seemed nice and I thought the rates they told me were great, however, they charged me extra on other things and then made up stories (multiple versions) when I called them inquiring and ferious, never even saw a real vet!!! Do Not Trust them with your fur babies!!! I'm worried sick over my puppies and all they wanted to do was a general check and then wayyy over charge me.

We just had our first appointment with Dr. G and had a great experience. They took us in the same day appointment and the entire staff was very friendly. Dr. G spent a good amount of time with us and answered all our questions. We weren't pressured in purchasing unnecessary treatment like I have been in the past. They are very honest and only tell you the minimum you need. No sales pitch. Best of all the prices were very affordable which makes it all the difference. Don't be fooled by the old building, the rooms inside are very modern and updated. I rather pay lower prices for my vet care than have a fancy office. I highly recommend this vet clinic for your loved furry family.

My first time at this office was yesterday, the visit went well with super friendly staff. I had to wait a bit, which didn't bother me, but the staff was very apologetic and appreciative of my time. Also, the price for services (upcoming surgery) was very reasonable and less than what I expected. What earned 5 stars though, is the patience and understanding I received when I called today with more questions I thought about AFTER I left the office last night. The call was easily 10 mins long, with questions I should have asked/thought about during my appointment. The rep (Riva? Reba?) answered all my questions knowledgeably and never acted impatient with me. I'm a fan of little "Mom and Pop" places and Bastet's friendliness, patience and obvious love/respect of animals completely reinforced why that's my preference.

If I could give 10 stars I would!! The Dr and most of the staff are the kindest, most personal people I've met since moving to the area. Dr G is straight forward and doesn't give you a false hope of reality. The male tech (I feel terrible for not knowing his name) is a person who genuinely cares about animals. He's not there just to do a "job" he's there because he wants to be. He compassion, thoughtfulness, and love of animals is something you do see on a regular basis. Most techs come in check vitals, ask a couple questions and walk out, not this gentleman. He cares about the humans too. I can't thank this group enough for being there for us.

This place is amazing. Dr. G came in on his day off when I had an emergency with my dog! My puppies are now doing great and I will definitely come back to this vet. I wouldn't trust any of the bad reviews on here some people just love to complain and they probably aren't true! And his prices are just fine and very similar to most vets! Cathy the office manager is also great! It's a laid back place all the employees are welcoming and love animals. I will spread the word to everyone I know. I wish I could give more stars!

They were so helpful! Our dog mysteriously had a very swollen ankle, and our friends referred us to Bastet. We went in and were helped immediately. They were kind and great with our dog. They stayed well past their closing hours to make sure everything was okay. The next day we had some concerns about the upper leg becoming swollen and they told us to come back in free of charge. Our dog is fine now and we are so happy with Bastet. Bottom line, they are very straight forward, don't try to sell you anything, and they genuinely care about you and your furry friends.

I drove 150 miles for the affordability of the hospital dental surgery package for my senior age service dog Easy and the glowing recommendation of the Kindred Spirit Animal Ministry which reports the doctor will stay up with an animal in critical condition all night if need be.Typically, Easy physically trembles when he walks into a veterinary hospital, while I financially tremble. Not the case here. He's like "yeah, this works"! There's a palpable peace & calm at Bastet Veterinary Hospital which puts furbabies & families completely at ease.They do things differently at this practice so be prepared to leave your go-go pace at the door. We have been taking our dog, Angie, to Bastet Veterinary Hospital for several years and have had nothing but compassionate, thorough and good results, not only from Dr. Grigis, but also the staff. Dr. Grigis is very knowledgable in every aspect of his field, is personable and compassionate. He takes time to discuss our concerns and his findings with us, offers options for treatment and explains pros and cons of each. He never pushes medications or treatments on us, but assists us in making the right decision for Angie and us. I am very picky over who takes care of my Angie and I can't think of any other vet I would want to take care of her.

Taken our dogs there many times and always had great service. A few days ago I had a medical emergency with one of my dogs at closing time. Dr. G was a real pro, taking him in at the last minute. Worked on my dog for hours after closing. Dr. saved my dogs life. As a medical professional myself, I witnessed real professionalism and now wouldn't take my pets anywhere else! We are forever grateful!

She stunk to high heaven! She was a mess!!! We had tried multiple other vets to no avail. Many said possibly her food was the cause and gave us list of dog food they had suggested. One said it's just black cocker skin. In a last attempt we tried one last new vet. HOLY COW!!! Dr. MO is the best!!! Asked me to trust him and try for one month a special and very expensive food only vets carry. HE WAS RIGHT!!! It's helped my dog immensely!!!

I have to start by saying "Thank you" from reception to the veterinarian Dr. Moses J Girgis.I brought my 2yr pitbull mix Brawny, who was having issues with his left ear. I delayed treatment due to my own fear after out last very negative experience we had with the same issue a year ago at Humane Veterinary in Spring Valley. Where he was in pain and scared. The vet walked into the room and went right to work, Brawny snapped at her. She asked me to control my dog. When I wasn't able to hold him down as she wanted. She called in for help, Brawny was subdued by 3 male staff, held down for care and when that failed he was sedated. When I picked him up I got my dog and a tooth that came out. That appt took 3 hrs. We never went back. Before coming to Bastet I called and explained the issue with his ear and my and his past experience. I was reassured they had dealt with aggressive dogs and they would work to establish trust with him. Although Brawny had to wear a muzzle and he did fear snap and growl. He was treated with kindness and humanely. They took him back and was all done in 20 minutes. Needless to say I have found a new vet for Brawny and other dogs/cats.

I'm glad I changed here doctor I haven't been disappointed what so ever with this facility yet and i've been going here for 2 years . I wouldn't want any other doctor taking care of my precious 13 year old dog . I highly recommend this facility to any one that wants a doctor that is compassionate about his job and every single patient that walks in to their doors . their new groomer is also very awesome she did an amazing job on my little lady very happy with this place !!!:)

Seriously, I wouldn't trust anyone else but Dr. Girgis with my pets. 5 years ago I had taken my 14 year old cat to different vet location where the vet told me "it was time to put my cat down." I just had a gut feeling that I needed to get a 2nd opinion so I took Busta (my cat) to see Dr Girgis. I couldn't be happier that I got a 2nd opinion. He quickly was able to identify that my cat has kidney disease and changed his diet. 5 years later my cat is doing GREAT!! I take Busta here for his regular check ups, and always walking away feeling like he took great care of my cat. Thanks Dr!!

Dr. G is awesome. He's been seeing our baby Sammi since she was a few months old. Sammi is a pitty that has had health problems since day 1. He is the only Vet she loves and isn't afraid to go. Dr. G and his staff are always professional and very attentive. The best thing about Dr. G is he is straight forward and won't charge you for innec unnecessary treatment/procedures. Great Doc and great staff with reasonable prices.

Price wise they are great as I have called several vets in the area and all the exam fees are $40+, here $20. First impression was this place looks like a dive but was still hopeful that we would have a good experience as we had called a week ago and made an appointment.Walk in, get greeted and once I say we have an appointment the woman lets out a long and wary "Oh" which is never a good sign. She informs me that "it will be a little while as we have an emergency C-Section". Key word Little. My next question is "how long is a little while", who knows maybe they are finishing up, she kindly responds with "Several hours". I understand that emergency's happen and if you have a pregnant animal the number 1 priority are the babies and the mom, I get that and am completely ok with that. What I am not ok with was this woman lying to me saying a little while and then turning around and saying several hours. I am also not impressed with how inconsiderate they are for their patients, mind you this was my first appointment with them. They couldn't have called and said there's an emergency we need to reschedule? She asked as I'm walking out the door if I would like to reschedule, I informed her that we will NEVER be going here again.Go elsewhere. Go someplace where they will be considerate to their patients and where they won't lie to your face.

Since finding Bastet Vet Clinic I'm extremely blessed to not only have Dr. Porterfield but also the best pet clinic around San Diego. It's a drive out there, but well worth it!

I saw this place while taking my kids to Menchies to get some frozen yogurt. I thought to give them a try. Took my cat in for breathing problems. While filling out all the paper work they gave us, I saw a man go to another room with his Big Mac from McDonald's. I didn't know he was the vet. Waited to be taken to a room. Mind you we were the only ones there. Finally, a lady took us to the exam room. She said wait for the vet to come in. Waiting again. Dr comes in, he apologized for the wait and that he fell asleep after eating lunch (at 3pm really!?). He did not know what he was doing. He never touched my cat; I was holding him and he listened to his lungs with his stethoscope. The vet didn't even have a watch to do a breathing count, we used my phone. He was too busy trying to sell me medication that he had onsite... Unprofessional and I feel cheated. More importantly now I have to take my cat somewhere else to get checked out.

My family and I have been long time customers of Bastet Vet and every single time we have been very impressed with their service. I got my puppy spayed her recently and they took the best care of her, all while working with me on price. Not once did they try to up-sell me on unnecessary products and procedures and were completely honest with me when it came down to the imperative treatments for my animals. I also had to take my elderly cat in when he was attacked by a coyote and they provided the best possible care for him, going so far as to stay open late for me to bring him in - all while keeping the price down as much as they could. Couldn't love Bastet Vet more!

Took a litter of labs in today, they were automatically rude and said I was early then when they checked said sorry your not it we are running behind, they seemed nice and I thought the rates they told me were great, however, they charged me extra on other things and then made up stories (multiple versions) when I called them inquiring and ferious, never even saw a real vet!!! Do Not Trust them with your fur babies!!! I'm worried sick over my puppies and all they wanted to do was a general check and then wayyy over charge me.

We just had our first appointment with Dr. G and had a great experience. They took us in the same day appointment and the entire staff was very friendly. Dr. G spent a good amount of time with us and answered all our questions. We weren't pressured in purchasing unnecessary treatment like I have been in the past. They are very honest and only tell you the minimum you need. No sales pitch. Best of all the prices were very affordable which makes it all the difference. Don't be fooled by the old building, the rooms inside are very modern and updated. I rather pay lower prices for my vet care than have a fancy office. I highly recommend this vet clinic for your loved furry family.

My first time at this office was yesterday, the visit went well with super friendly staff. I had to wait a bit, which didn't bother me, but the staff was very apologetic and appreciative of my time. Also, the price for services (upcoming surgery) was very reasonable and less than what I expected. What earned 5 stars though, is the patience and understanding I received when I called today with more questions I thought about AFTER I left the office last night. The call was easily 10 mins long, with questions I should have asked/thought about during my appointment. The rep (Riva? Reba?) answered all my questions knowledgeably and never acted impatient with me. I'm a fan of little "Mom and Pop" places and Bastet's friendliness, patience and obvious love/respect of animals completely reinforced why that's my preference.

If I could give 10 stars I would!! The Dr and most of the staff are the kindest, most personal people I've met since moving to the area. Dr G is straight forward and doesn't give you a false hope of reality. The male tech (I feel terrible for not knowing his name) is a person who genuinely cares about animals. He's not there just to do a "job" he's there because he wants to be. He compassion, thoughtfulness, and love of animals is something you do see on a regular basis. Most techs come in check vitals, ask a couple questions and walk out, not this gentleman. He cares about the humans too. I can't thank this group enough for being there for us.

This place is amazing. Dr. G came in on his day off when I had an emergency with my dog! My puppies are now doing great and I will definitely come back to this vet. I wouldn't trust any of the bad reviews on here some people just love to complain and they probably aren't true! And his prices are just fine and very similar to most vets! Cathy the office manager is also great! It's a laid back place all the employees are welcoming and love animals. I will spread the word to everyone I know. I wish I could give more stars!

They were so helpful! Our dog mysteriously had a very swollen ankle, and our friends referred us to Bastet. We went in and were helped immediately. They were kind and great with our dog. They stayed well past their closing hours to make sure everything was okay. The next day we had some concerns about the upper leg becoming swollen and they told us to come back in free of charge. Our dog is fine now and we are so happy with Bastet. Bottom line, they are very straight forward, don't try to sell you anything, and they genuinely care about you and your furry friends.

I drove 150 miles for the affordability of the hospital dental surgery package for my senior age service dog Easy and the glowing recommendation of the Kindred Spirit Animal Ministry which reports the doctor will stay up with an animal in critical condition all night if need be.Typically, Easy physically trembles when he walks into a veterinary hospital, while I financially tremble. We have been taking our dog, Angie, to Bastet Veterinary Hospital for several years and have had nothing but compassionate, thorough and good results, not only from Dr. Grigis, but also the staff. Dr. Grigis is very knowledgable in every aspect of his field, is personable and compassionate. He takes time to discuss our concerns and his findings with us, offers options for treatment and explains pros and cons of each. He never pushes medications or treatments on us, but assists us in making the right decision for Angie and us. I am very picky over who takes care of my Angie and I can't think of any other vet I would want to take care of her.

Taken our dogs there many times and always had great service. A few days ago I had a medical emergency with one of my dogs at closing time. Dr. G was a real pro, taking him in at the last minute. Worked on my dog for hours after closing. Dr. saved my dogs life. As a medical professional myself, I witnessed real professionalism and now wouldn't take my pets anywhere else! She stunk to high heaven! She was a mess!!! We had tried multiple other vets to no avail. Many said possibly her food was the cause and gave us list of dog food they had suggested. One said it's just black cocker skin. In a last attempt we tried one last new vet. HOLY COW!!! Dr. MO is the best!!! Asked me to trust him and try for one month a special and very expensive food only vets carry. HE WAS RIGHT!!! It's helped my dog immensely!!!

I have to start by saying "Thank you" from reception to the veterinarian Dr. Moses J Girgis.I brought my 2yr pitbull mix Brawny, who was having issues with his left ear. I delayed treatment due to my own fear after out last very negative experience we had with the same issue a year ago at Humane Veterinary in Spring Valley. Where he was in pain and scared. The vet walked into the room and went right to work, Brawny snapped at her. She asked me to control my dog. When I wasn't able to hold him down as she wanted. She called in for help, Brawny was subdued by 3 male staff, held down for care and when that failed he was sedated. When I picked him up I got my dog and a tooth that came out. That appt took 3 hrs. We never went back. Before coming to Bastet I called and explained the issue with his ear and my and his past experience. I was reassured they had dealt with aggressive dogs and they would work to establish trust with him. Although Brawny had to wear a muzzle and he did fear snap and growl. He was treated with kindness and humanely. They took him back and was all done in 20 minutes. Needless to say I have found a new vet for Brawny and other dogs/cats.

I'm glad I changed here doctor I haven't been disappointed what so ever with this facility yet and i've been going here for 2 years . I wouldn't want any other doctor taking care of my precious 13 year old dog . Seriously, I wouldn't trust anyone else but Dr. Girgis with my pets. 5 years ago I had taken my 14 year old cat to different vet location where the vet told me "it was time to put my cat down." I just had a gut feeling that I needed to get a 2nd opinion so I took Busta (my cat) to see Dr Girgis. I couldn't be happier that I got a 2nd opinion. He quickly was able to identify that my cat has kidney disease and changed his diet. 5 years later my cat is doing GREAT!! I take Busta here for his regular check ups, and always walking away feeling like he took great care of my cat. Thanks Dr!!

Dr. G and his staff are always professional and very attentive. The best thing about Dr. G is he is straight forward and won't charge you for innec unnecessary treatment/procedures. Price wise they are great as I have called several vets in the area and all the exam fees are $40+, here $20. First impression was this place looks like a dive but was still hopeful that we would have a good experience as we had called a week ago and made an appointment.Walk in, get greeted and once I say we have an appointment the woman lets out a long and wary "Oh" which is never a good sign. She informs me that "it will be a little while as we have an emergency C-Section". Key word Little. My next question is "how long is a little while", who knows maybe they are finishing up, she kindly responds with "Several hours". I understand that emergency's happen and if you have a pregnant animal the number 1 priority are the babies and the mom, I get that and am completely ok with that. What I am not ok with was this woman lying to me saying a little while and then turning around and saying several hours. I am also not impressed with how inconsiderate they are for their patients, mind you this was my first appointment with them. They couldn't have called and said there's an emergency we need to reschedule? She asked as I'm walking out the door if I would like to reschedule, I informed her that we will NEVER be going here again.Go elsewhere. Go someplace where they will be considerate to their patients and where they won't lie to your face.
