I'm not sure if there are staffing issues they are trying to fix, but I waited (as a walk in) for two and a half hours without even getting in an exam room before I gave up and left. I understand I didn't have an appointment, but in all that time no one updated me on the wait times at all. The next time I needed the vet I called to ask how long the wait was and was told they weren't taking walk ins because they didn't have a doctor. Over the last 2 years, everything has become completely unorganized with very long waits, different staff coming in and out, and no coordination. But the final straw came when I went to put my sick old cat to sleep. It was traumatic anyway, and I called ahead. Even so, We waited and hour and a half very upset. At one point, the doctor came in and demanded to know why I would put the cat down instead of save her. I asked if she had read the chart ( which she hadn't) because they had told me at the previous visit they could never operate on her, she was too sickly, and coming to the end. Major guilt trip. Sadly we brought our dog in at 2am and she passed away just a few minutes later. She was very sick and old and it was inevitable. The staff had her comfortable immediately and gave us a full assessment of her situation. We were given as much time as we needed to say goodbye and stay with her until the end. Then we were given more time if we needed. They asked as few questions as possible and helped us through the cremation process. When we picked up her remains there was a nice package of extras. The staff member too us to a private room to give them to us and Wes very kind and consoling. A week later we received a sweet card from the staff as well. Excellent experience Took my 8 year old bulldog on a Friday evening for a paw infection. I was taken back to an exam room within 10 minutes of checking in. Waited less than 5 for the vet. She (the vet) was very sweet and knowledgeable. She was very familiar with bulldogs and all their illnesses. She was very gentle was his sensitive paw. I really liked that they priced all recommended treatments in writing and reviewed it with me prior to performing them. I did not feel pressured to do anything that I didn't want to do- it was a very easy discussion. The vet techs were amazing! They loved my dog and he loved them. When he came back from the treatment area, he was a happy pup! The vet discussed everything and I got detailed explanations on his medications and follow-up! Check out was a breeze and they give military discounts!! I was very happy and so was my dog! Read Less

There are no words to describe how thankful we chose this hospital when bringing our puppy in. He is only 9 weeks old and something was "off". After he vomited, I brought him into emergency care to find out he had Parvo. The doctor quoted me what he thought the treatment would cost with no guarantee he would make it. He anticipated he would need 3-4 days of 24 hour care. We decided to proceed. What was supposed to be 3 or 4 days turned into 7. Our puppy went from several days of no improvement to a complete 180 and made it! They saved his life. When I came to pick him up, scared of the total, it was still within the range the doctor quoted. I couldn't believe it. I must have called every 4 hours for the last week, looking for an update. EVERYONE was helpful, polite, considerate of what we were going through. They never hesitated to personally check on him and update me, every time I called. I cannot give enough thanks for saving our dogs life. THANK ALL OF YOU AT VCA!!!!! Read Less

My vet ROCKS ! She is very knowledgeable and willing to learn more. I have a Sharp Pei and they are truly a different animal. So what works on most dogs and lab results mean and do totally different things! MY fur baby Zen has kidney disease! No small issue and is treated very different in Pei then other dogs. SHE IS SO AWESOME AND WILLING TO HELP ZEN SHE CONNECT WITH A PEI SPECIALIST IN NEW YORK!! That is a huge favor and a lot to ask of a very qualified vet! But she was willing! Zen is on all human med to make it more complicated!!! I would definitely bring my other dogs in and any future Pei I rescue!! Go Dr.D'angelo!!!! With her permission I would add her name to the list of qualified Sharp Pei vets! !! They are so very rare and many claim to know the breed. Read Less

Very disappointed tonight. Went in with my baby angel. Waited about an hour because there were emergencies ahead of us which was fine and understandable. The staff was amazingly friendly which I loved but the problem was paying for an exam that consisted of 2 minutes talking to the vet and my kitty being weighed. She didn't even look at my cat's eye where the issue was. Needless to say we left and are going to see our primary vet tomorrow morning. That was $70 and over an hour of waiting for nothing. I don't think I should've paid that when all that happened was weighing and 2 minutes of a talk. Read Less

We didn't have much money, but the staff did everything they could possibly do for Bubblegum's condition. During the next few days, I made several phone calls to ask questions and I always received a response and was treated with dignity. This review comes a bit late.. but we have used this facility for years now. It seems most of our vet emergencies occur after hours or on the weekends (of course!) I took my Aussie Shep mix here after a Sunday afternoon rattlesnake bite. They were efficient, knowledgeable, and gave me the info I needed to know. Expensive? Heck yeah... but the cost of anti-venin is the driving issue, and these days it runs around $1000 dose anywhere (I paid $800 then for each of the 3 doses she needed). Plus I could count on the fact that they had it in stock, and the wait time would be nil. We also took our aging and suffering (stroke) Aussie there to be euthanized at about 3 AM on morning. They could not have been more compassionate. They gave us time with him, both before and after. Cost was comparable to our regular vet... maybe even the same. I think your attitude affects how you're treated anywhere. I will gladly use the Center for any and all emergencies. We're in Deerhorn Valley, so this is our closest option during off-times. And I'm glad for it. Read Less

Read Less

Extremely helpful and very affordable. They're also one of the few vets that don't try to sell you all kinds of extra treatments and medications just to make an extra buck

Read Less

Dr Richard Johnson is the best and now we have Dr Jacqueline Johnson who is tops in our book and family. She is great with our miniature Schnauzers. We trust them both completely. Also, the groomers especially "Ann" and the other sweet ladies treat our dogs with so much heart! The front office folks and techs are sincere and very caring. The dental hygienist Christina was attentive to my concerns and she was who I needed at the right time. Big kudos to the team! Read Less

This review is a bit late, but we took our 2 year old Bubblegum Kitty in for what turned out to be a urinary blockage. We didn't have much money, but the staff did everything they could possibly do for Bubblegum's condition. During the next few days, I made several phone calls to ask questions and I always received a response and was treated with dignity. Bubblegum seemed to be doing fine, but, unfortunately, he passed away on December 31. We miss him terribly, but we got another 11 days to spend with our fur baby. We just want to thank everyone at VCA for treating us with such respect and for doing everything possible to help Bubblegum. Read Less

well, saturday i took my papillion to them and i was initially kinda put off by the vet there, she did a quick exam and suspected Addisons from those findings, vet seemed mad when i didn't fork over $450.00 to do more testing so we left, she cont to worsen and wound up going to ER vet in La Mesa as she cont. to worsen on sun.ER vet was excellent she did labs and immediately said labs indicate Addissons crisis. they gave her treatment and saved her life, so my apologys to VCA vet.she was right maybe her approach was wrong or maybe i'am an idiot, f/u today with Dr.Mitchell and she said my dog would not have lasted another 24hrs...again my apologys to VCA they were right... She stayed for two days had emergency treatment and was sent home with medication. After authorizing anything to save her, I was shocked how affordable it was. I am so grateful. Dr. Tyler is a class act. My dog Tiger went in recently with a disc problem he is 11. I was fortunate to see Dr. Tyler again. It has been 12 hours and he is doing well. Read Less
